Missing style sheet error when installing the theme

A common issue that can occur with users new to installing WordPress themes is a “Broken theme and/or stylesheets missing” error message being displayed when trying to upload or activate the theme. This error message does not mean that the theme you have purchased is broken, it simply means it has been uploaded incorrectly. Luckily, there is a very easy fix.

Make sure you have marked two posts as “sticky”. Do not use tags for sticky posts, use the built-in Wordpress functionality: http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-visibility/

My thumbnails are not showing up. Instead I see a link to the post where the thumbnail should be.

Open each post and re-save them one by one. The script (TimThumb) that re-sizes thumbnails needs to refresh and cache a copy of the thumbnails, and this process happens when you re-save the post. You will not have to do this with future posts, just ones that already existed when you installed Caulk.

I have opened my post and re-saved it with a thumbnail, and it is still not showing up.

Your web host is not letting the TimThumb script create a folder with the correct permissions due to their security policies (Host Gator is one example). Contact your webhost and tell them you are trying to use the TimThumb script in your Wordpress installation and they should be able to help you with the permissions.

There are posts missing from the Recently Added section. Either no posts are showing, or some are showing but not all of them.

This has to do with a quirk in the Popular Posts slider. It’s basically eating some of your posts without you realizing it. He’s a really hungry dude – I programmed him that way unfortunately.

Here’s how you fix it: you need to make sure you have at least two posts with at least 1 comment each, not including posts in the featured or sticky areas. Also, make sure you have 3 selected for number of popular posts to display. That should do the trick.

Why aren’t any posts showing up in my featured slider?

Check to see that the slug for your featured tag is “featured” and not “featured-2” or something else. This usually only happens if you have a category already named “featured”. Categories and tags in Wordpress cannot have identical slugs. Change the slug of your featured category to “featured-3” or something else, and then change the slug of your featured tag to “featured” and your slider should show up.

Lightbox plugins don’t work with Caulk. How do I fix this?

The fix is to add this to your footer.php file right before the close body tag:

Make sure you put that right before the close body tag, which is at the very end of the footer.php file. After you add this code, lightbox plugins should work.
