The actually images are pretty gigantic to start with 1200 so no extra retina function required there. Adding retina support for the icons is not a bad idea I’ll see about updating that later
I’m considering this theme. How would you recommend implementing ads, if desired?
Depends where you want the ads. For inside the posts I would recommend a plugin, for in the footer you can use a text-widget, for on the homepage/archives manually would work pretty good and I could write up a quick knowledgebase article for this I guess.

Looks like the beard theme
Beard theme? never heard of it…It’s actually “based” on our free theme “Thoughts” which a lot of people have used in the past to create their own variations.

Is it possible to have a gallery on homepage? Or at least make a “sticky” post with gallery?
You can definitely make a sitcky post.
Right now all the entries show the_excerpt(). If you want to show a gallery on the homepage you can open content-gallery.php and change line 88 from the_excerpt() to the_content(). This way it will show your full post instead or your full-post until your page break.

The Symple Shortcodes plug doesn’t work making all the shortcodes basically unusable.
How does it not work? It’s working for me. Are you receiving some sort of error so I can assist you?
The link on the top of the page is not clickable
When I click “activate this plugin” it goes to a page saying: You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.
Not to be redundant…but it seems you don’t have enough permissions to activate the plugin. Are you logged in as the admin?
You can you try uploading it manually if your current setup won’t allow you to do it via the dashboard.
The plugin zip is located in the theme’s functions/plugins folder.
