Hi,

Is it possible to add a sidebar widget to your theme?

I know there is one at the bottom but I want it on the side.

Thanks. Pete

pehaa

Hi Pete,

Thank you very much for purchasing Collections.

The only widgets area is the footer. We’ll consider adding widgets to the sidebar in the theme update.

Is there anyway I can do it or is it a bit complicated? I’ve tried doing it in the normal way but it doesn’t seem to work

pehaa

Hi,

If you want to do it yourself I recomment using the child theme – this way you’ll be able to update the theme.

In the child theme create functions.php file and register the left sidebar
<?php function faktory_register_sidebars_left() {

    register_sidebar(array(
        'name' => __( 'Left Sidebar', 'faktorytheme' ),
        'description' => __( 'Left widget area.', 'faktorytheme' ),
        'id' => 'sidebar-2',
        'before_widget' => '<aside id="%1$s" class="widget %2$s">',
        'after_widget' => '</aside>',
        'before_title' => '<h3 class="widgettitle">',
        'after_title' => '</h3>',
    ));

}

add_action( 'widgets_init', 'faktory_register_sidebars_left' );

?>
Next, create a footer.php file paste the content of footer.php from the parent theme and add
        <div id="widget-area-2" class="widget-area sidebar">
            <?php dynamic_sidebar( 'sidebar-2' ); ?>
        </div><!-- .widget-area -->
after the nav container within the #navbar. You’ll also have to adjust the css, like that
@media only screen and (min-width: 560px)
.navbar .widget {
width: 18.75em;
}
Do this in the child theme css/style.css or in the Options Panel. Depending on the widget that you want to use you may have some other css adjustments.

Hi Guys,

I have the theme up and running at www.ourgatheredhome.com, it’s working great, but just wondering if there is a way to change the gallery? At the moment all the preview images are cropped, rather than their full size and proportions, it also might be nice to have them all in a single post like this.

http://www.coffeeklatch.be/en/interview/2013-11/38/jon-and-masa http://www.freundevonfreunden.com/interviews/aviva-rowley/

Any chance that is possible, I’d prefer not to lay them out and use the WP gallery plugin to make it easier to add and edit images?

Cheers

Matt

Hi,

Thank you for purchasing Collections. In this theme we decided to overwrite the default WP gallery shortcode by the slider. If you don’t want to display the galleries this way – yes, we’d suggest using a plugin.

You may need to remove the line
add_shortcode( 'gallery', 'faktory_gallery' );
from functions.php

Cheers

Hi

Loving this theme. Couple of questions:

-How can I change the opacity of the landing page background? It is a bit too dark for us

-I want to use Helevetica Nueue font, and I have the font files & licence. How do I go about adding this/uploading this, as it is not a Google Font? I want it to render on all browsers. Please provide a step by step if possible :)

Also, when a user posts a comment, it says “Your Comment Is Awaiting Moderation”. Is there anyway to hide unmoderated comments? As I will have multiple users using a single account and I don’t want them to see the questions others have submitted

pehaa

Hi,

Thank you very much!

We suggest that you use a child theme for these modifications so that you could update the theme easily in the future.

Fonts: First thing – you don’t want the google font to be loaded anymore. Create a functions.php file in your child theme. Copy and paste the faktory_scripts_and_styles function from functions.php in the parent theme

<?php
function faktory_scripts_and_styles() { …
… }
Delete the lines from
$custom_body_font = …
to
wp_enqueue_style( 'faktory-fonts', $fonts_url );
(included). Next modify the line that follows directly change:
 wp_register_style( 'faktory-stylesheet', THEME_ST_URI . '/css/style.css', array('faktory-fonts'), '', 'all' );
to
 wp_register_style( 'faktory-stylesheet', THEME_ST_URI . '/css/style.css', '', '', 'all' );
Next, create a folder custom_fonts in your child theme and put your font file in there. Open css/style.css and add the @font-face declaration, for example if we had ‘YanoneKaffeesatzRegular’ that would be:
@font-face {
    font-family: 'YanoneKaffeesatzRegular';
    src: url('../custom_fonts/yanonekaffeesatz-regular-webfont.eot');
    src: url('../custom_fonts/yanonekaffeesatz-regular-webfont.eot?#iefix') format('embedded-opentype'),
         url('../custom_fonts/yanonekaffeesatz-regular-webfont.woff') format('woff'),
         url('../custom_fonts/yanonekaffeesatz-regular-webfont.ttf') format('truetype'),
         url('../custom_fonts/yanonekaffeesatz-regular-webfont.svg#YanoneKaffeesatzRegular') format('svg');
    font-weight: normal;
    font-style: normal;
}
Next if you want to modify the body font you’d add:
body, .site-description, .entry-subtitle, .faktory-section-subtitle {font-family: 'YanoneKaffeesatzRegular', serif;}
and for headings
h1, .h1, h2, .h2, h3, .h3, h4, .h4, h5, .h5, .navbar a, .faktory_page_navi, .tags-links, .entry-meta, .site-info, form label, .comment-reply-link, b.fn, .post-navigation, input[type='button'],
input[type='reset'], input[type='submit'], .adr span, .widget_calendar caption, .widget_calendar tfoot, .widget_nav_menu, .faktory-button, .navbar .search-form input {font-family: 'YanoneKaffeesatzRegular',serif;}
.site-info, .entry-meta {text-transform:none;}

In the next reply – the comments problem. Again in the child theme create a file comments.php. Copy and paste the comments.php content from the parent theme

Change the line 22 to
<?php if ( have_comments() && get_comments_number() > 0 ) : ?>
and lines 32-36 to
    wp_list_comments( array(
                        'style'       => 'ol',
                        'short_ping'  => true,
                        'avatar_size' => '74',
                    ), get_comments( array('post_id'=> get_the_ID(), 'status' => 'approve' ) ) );

Hi pehaa i ran into some issue with your theme. I tried to reach you for almost a week now and can’t get ahold of you … :(

pehaa

Hi,

Please post here what problems you encounter, otherwise we can’t help.

Default-user

I am having an issue with your “Panes – HTML 5 Business Theme” .. but i posted over there aswell and didn’t get any feedback or responses.

We are trying to integrate your “Panes” theme into our design and we encounter some javascript related conflicts

I am willing to pay you for the support . I just need to discuss this deeply over the email or chat, send you some examples and describe the bug we encounter.

We really ran out of options and we need your help for fixing this. I must send you some links and files to check things out and i can’t do this inside a comment form on ThemeForest.

Can we discuss further by email pls ? Hope you understand …

pehaa

Hi,

Unfortunately we do not provide any customization services (even additionnaly paid).

how do you change the font? The font size? The font color?

pehaa

Hello,

You can change the fonts in the Theme Options Panel > Styles. There are no font-size or font-color settings built into the theme, you’d have to play with the css.

im not very saavy with computers. I tried to change the font but i don’t know how to use the google codes to change the fonts and there is only 4 font options in the drop box if you don’t use the codes. Can you give me an example of how to change it? thx

pehaa

Check this screenshot: http://cl.ly/image/0R2c3C0v0D2z I just have to make sure that Open Sans has 400, 700 and 400 italic styles http://cl.ly/image/2u0h1D0h3s3N – just check – you don’t have to download anything here.

Since it’s a sans-serif font I set Font Family to “Sans serif”.

how do you add a second, 3rd, 4th page like you have in your live preview?

pehaa

Hi,

You have to create new “Pages” and then add them to the menu in Appearance > Menus, the demo’s menu configuration is like this: http://cl.ly/image/450c1v1B1r2f

Hello,

I was wondering if there is a way to easily change the background of the posts. The stark white can be a bit plain for larger posts. Great theme by the way! Very easy to set up!

Best, Adam

Hi Adam,

Thank you very much for purchasing Collections.

Did you notice the “Content Background” meta-box? Is that what you meant?

I see that I can control the background color of the text container, but I meant the color around that. Looking at the code it looks like there might be two sections that control the white around the (transparent, light grey or dark grey) container. Any tips? Also, really great support! I appreciate it!

Let’s say I wanted to make the icon on each post unique, any idea on how I might do that more easily than changing the current “post-formats.png” and then manipulating the rules in the css (so a quote is formatted the same way as a standard post, but since it’s selected as a quote, it displays the image I’ve edited for quote icon.) Does that make sense? Anyway, is it possible easily?

pehaa
If you really want to make a unique icon for each post, the possible way is to override the .background-image and background-postion for each .post-format-icon like so, for each new id
#post-id .post-format-icon {background-image: ...
background-position: ...

And I would put this in the Single Post php or the CSS? Sorry, I’m a little wet-nosed when it comes to this stuff.

pehaa

Hi,

sorry for replying this late.

You can use the Theme Options > Styles > Custom Styles and add this bit of css each time you add a new post (new id). Would it work for you?

I’m considering purchasing this theme, but had a couple of questions.

For an all-text post, is it possible to shown a few lines of the article text for each post in the listing of blog posts? In the demo, I see headings with a sub-head/summary in italics, or the full text for the short posts.

Is it possible to remove the shading behind the text in a post? For example, in the October Veggies post, there’s shading behind the recipe.

Lastly, can you point me to any sites using the theme that do have a variety of all-text blog posts? I’d really like to get a feel for how that would look.

Thanks much!

How can I get the background opacity of the header area to be different? I want the background to be white where the logo is, but even setting it to #ffffff, it’s still putting some sort of opacity on it, turning the area gray.

pehaa

Hi Amy,

Thank you for purchasing Collections.

You need to add this in your Theme Options > Styles < Custom styles
.site-header::after {opacity:1!important;background:#fff}

Hi PeHaa. Congrats on a beautiful theme. I am a first time blogger with basically no understanding of the techie stuff. I have two questions: Like others, I’d love an easy way to reduce the grayness/opacity of the background pictures on the cover. Second, I wonder if there is a way to add additional pictures to the background carrousel on the cover.

Thank you for your guidance.

pehaa

Hi,

Thank you very much for purchasing Collections.

To reduce the opacity of the background pictures you have to edit the Theme Options > Styles > Custom styles

.site-header::after { opacity: your value of opacity; }

The initial value of opacity is 0.6 so you have to use some smaller value.

No, you can only set 1,2 or 3 images in the carousel.

Thank you for replying. I followed your instructions and no changes occurred. In the big CUSTOM STYLES box, I typed:

site-header::after { opacity: 0.1; }

Clicked on “Save changes” and still looks the same. I also tried with one colon instead of two in case that was a typo. No changes. Any ideas?

I take this opportunity to ask you also about logos. I have a logo that is very wide and short. On my Home, the logo appears very small, much smaller then the file size. Does this mean you have a restriction on width? How can I override that?

thanks again!

pehaa

Hi,

I guess it’s the missing dot before the class name, it should be ”.site-header”.

Yes, the max width of the logo is llimited to 300px, to override it, add to custom styles :
.site-header .h1-img img {max-width:100%}

Is there a way to change the color of the social networking icons at the bottom?

.social li {background: yourcolor; }

How do I update?

pehaa

To update the theme, go to Appearance > Themes

—If you use a child theme: delete the parent theme,

—If you use the parent theme, switch to twentyfourteen and delete the theme

Click the Add New button > Upload theme and navigate to collections.zip (not the collections-package.zip)

To update the shortcodes plugin delete it and install the new one.

The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet.

Theme install failed.

Can you tell me what should I do now..? :(

I’ve already purchased it and it doesn’t work…

Thanks…

Hi,

Thank you for purchasing Collections. Make sure you use the collections.zip and not collections-package.zip (that contains additionally the shortcodes plugin, the docs the sample data and the child theme).

HI i just purchased the theme and wonder if there are example actual sites you have so that i can make reference to in order to know how much i can push this theme. For the blog post if the title is too long i cant displayed the whole title right?

pehaa

Hi,

Thank you very much for purchasing Collections.

For the examples please look through the comments – we’re not authorized to cite any sites here.

Yes, in the index view the titles and subtitles that are too long to fit a single line are truncated. To display them entirely you’ll have to override the faktory_post_title function in your child theme – just delete the “truncate” classes.

I am thinking if there will be a plugin that can support a slider function to display around 6-8 slides I want to have maybe on separate page? Is there some plugin you can recommend that does not crash with your theme?
