Portfolios don’t seem to be working. I have it showing up on the home page when selected on the homepage options. View our full portfolio it just goes to the home page again. When I add the portfolio to the menu it give me an error “Oops! The page you are looking for does not exist.” I have your latest download of the theme (I am finally trying to upgrade my 1.x theme to version 2).

You can go to the site http://brampton.therockschool.ca/ to see it.

Thanks

ThemeBlvd

First off, the “View Portfolio” link does not go anywhere because you didn’t put in any kind of URL when you were setting up your portfolio options under the Homepage section. This isn’t something that’s done automatically for you. You have to actually put in a URL of whatever you’re wanting to be your “portfolio”.

And as far as the main menu, if you’re adding a link to the portfolio and it’s not working it means either you’re not quite understanding how to add a portfolio to the main menu, or you didn’t flush your permalinks when you installed the theme. —By that I mean basically just going to your Settings > Permalinks and basically just saving the page again.

Thanks, it was the permalinks, though I had done it, but I guess not.

i wanted to purchase this theme – question is in the demo site their is options to the left to set theme colors backgrounds etc. – so will these options be present in the admin panel of the theme or is this feature only for marketing purposes

ThemeBlvd

Hello,

The actual panel on the demo site does not come with the theme, and it is there for demonstration purposes only. However, its options server as a basic representation of some of the actual style options included with the theme that you control from your WordPress admin panel. So anything you can choose in the demo’s options, you can also choose when working with the theme from your WordPress admin panel.

I love this theme. I bought it like two years ago now. If I download it again will I get the upgrades for free? Thanks so much.

ThemeBlvd

Hello,

Yes you will have the latest version. You just need to go to download it again from your ThemeForest Downloads page.

Hi Jason The custom Shortcut Code: tabs tab1=”Tab 1 Title” tab2=”Tab 2 Title” tab3=”Tab 3 Title” Tab 1 Content here /tab Tab 2 Content here /tab Tab 3 Content here /tab Doesn’t work any more. I use Wordpress 3.4.1, in a earlier version works great. Could I need to update something? Thank you for a respond and your help.

Hello,

I apologize, but I don’t understand what you’re trying to describe. Can you please be more specific and maybe provide a link to the issue?

Did you recently install a Google analytics plugin since this started happening?

“Did you recently install a Google analytics plugin since this started happening?”

Yes your right, you are a genius! After deactivating “Google Analytics Plugin”, your “jQuery Custom Tabs-Code” works. Do you know maybe a solution to fix? Thank you very much.

ThemeBlvd

For whatever weird reason it goes through all of the URL ’s of what’s in the tab links and changes them from (for example) #tab2 to http://yoursite.com/#tab2—If their plugin is going to randomly do that, there’s no way around it. You have to choose tabs or this google analytics plugin.

And you know you can just put your google analytics code into the theme options, right?

Hi,

We were absolutely blown away by the awesomeness of the demo website, would it be possible to buy the complete demo, instead of only the theme?

We would like to get our site to be exactly like the demo, except with our own content.

Bertine.

ThemeBlvd

Hello,

If you want, I can send you the standard WordPress export file from the demo, but I don’t offer any kind of services to actually set everything up for you, unfortunately. And in the documentation it has a written guide on how the demo homepage was setup along with this theme overview: https://vimeo.com/21047920

Hi,

We would indeed very much appreciate it if you could send the WordPress export of the demo site our way, so we can replace the demo content with our own content. What should we do to get the WordPress export?

ThemeBlvd

Hello,

Just shoot me message though my profile page asking about and I’ll respond via email.

Just make sure you send me a message while logged into the account you purchased the theme with, which wasn’t this one.

Hi Jason,

Awesome theme – Still loving Complexity… This may have been asked before, but can’t find the answer so…

Is BuddyPress and S2Member compatible with Complexity?

Please tell me it is…

Next, as a “feature request” – what about making the theme Responsive and Mobile Compatible?

Best regards.

ThemeBlvd

I honestly have no idea if they’re compatible. Why don’t you try ‘em out and see?

And I haven’t decided what I’m going to do this theme. I’ll either to have to completely re-do it to match my new responsive theme framework or inevitably remove it from ThemeForest to make way for newer themes.

Default-user

Hi Jason,

Thanks for that.

Last time I Tried a theme, where the theme author wasn’t sure if BP was compatible or not – it actually really messed up the theme. I will back everything up first, and will try it and let you know.

Next, Can I create new sidebars?

Look forward to hearing more about Complexity, I hope this theme can be upgraded to your new framework, rather than a new theme (because I and I know many others still use Complexity)

Hi Jason, I’m experiencing some frustration with simply getting this theme setup. I have gone through your tutorial videos and simply can’t find the imformation I need. Specifically, what is frustrating is the sliders, there are only 2 listed in the theme and not the 1/2 w/ commment that I’m looking for. I’m looking to set up the demo homepage – Just how you have it, and then will modify that. How do I do that? Do you have a file I can download and upload into my WordPress? Appreciate the help.

ThemeBlvd
... there are only 2 [sliders] listed in the theme and not the 1/2 w/ commment that I’m looking for

This seems to be your true issue, but I’m not quite understanding this. Can you elaborate on what mean by this?

Default-user

Your demo shows a full slider with 1/2 photo and 1/2 text. How do I set this up? It is not listed. I’m only seeing two sliders, one for Nivo and the other for Anything Slider. When I access the Homepage settings, nothing changes on a set homepage. What am I doing wrong. I simply want to create a homepage that looks just like the demo does, but I can’t replicate it. Appreciate the help.

Default-user

Let me try to clarify. When I go to the homepage settings and drag around the items to display on my page, NOTHING shows up. What am I missing here??? I have used dozens of Themeforest Wordpress themes before… don’t know why this one is so challenging for me! Help is appreciated.

Hello Jason I have been using your theme for about a year without ever having an issue, but now all of a sudden, my hosting is telling me they are receiving complaints (actually one complaint) about js/validate.js add that it is being used in spam attacks and regardless of what I say to them they have requested I remove your theme altogether, but I believe the js is not the problem. I once had an issue with a js.exploit but that has been resolved.

I have invested alot of time getting to know and working with your theme but I’m not a coder. I’m just wondering if you could advise because I don’t know what else to tell them. They are very difficult to persuade once they are keyed in on that issue and to just up and ask a designer to just remove a theme is really uncool.

Thanks for the wonderful theme! Any help would be appreciated.

ThemeBlvd

Hello,

You could just disable the file, probably. Just remove it from being called in header.php and then also in /layouts/js/custom.js remove any sections that use the validate() function.

The effect would be that you can’t use the contact form template, and post comments would just standard submission like in any other theme.

My dropdown menu will not work. I have no plugins installed, just your theme. I have created the menu with dropdowns, but they do not show up when you hover. They DO show up for about 1/2 of a second when the page loads if you click on the menu. Please assist. Thanks! URL is www.sr22-portland.com

Ding! Ding! Ding! Winner! Thank you for your help! Guess I won’t enter an RSS feed that way…

ThemeBlvd

Maybe try just not including jQuery in the code snippet you’re pasting in. What you’re doing at the top of that snippet’s javascript is you’re including an old version of the jQuery library, and I think that’s what’s breaking everything. However, the theme already incorporates jQuery; so, try and just remove that line from it and see if it works.

This is probably a stupid question. I just updated this theme from 1. I am rebuilding my portfolios which are a little different from when I last did them. However, how do I use full scaled thumbnails for the page display while allowing the the pop-up show to display the bigger images? Or how can I control the cropping of the thumbnail so it is relevant to the image? My images are 2:3 aspect sometimes in horizontal format. The thumbnails on the portfolio page are all horizontal format 1:2.5 so the cropping messes with the image.

ThemeBlvd

Hello,

I apologize, but these would be customizations you’d need to make to the theme. If you’d like to customize the theme’s crop sizes, you can find them at the top of this file:

/includes/theme_functions/general.php

Perhaps you’d like to change these to be what WordPress refers to as a soft crop instead of a hard crop, which is what the theme has them set at now. Another trick is to leave them as a hard crop, but adjust their height to be something that would never be reached like “999”.

http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/add_image_size

Note that any changes you make will only effect images you upload after making the change. You can also use this plugin to re-generate your old thumbnails: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/regenerate-thumbnails/

I tried playing around a little with your suggestions and the results aren’t quite right. Maybe this is a little more direct: is there a way so that the portfolio page displays a full scale complete, but small thumbnail, of the larger image that pops up in the lightbox? My earlier version of this theme had that. As a photographer I would rather not display miscropped or horizontal format only images in the portfolio page. Thanks for your time. If it means anything I rebought the version 2 of Complexity vs upgrading :)

I think I got it. I changed this line: add_image_size( ‘portfolio’, 280, 125, true ); to: add_image_size( ‘portfolio’, 280, 280, false ); I’ll just have to order the displays so that horizontals and verticals are more consistent.

I am having the problem of not being able to have more then 3 portfolio pages. If I have 30 portfolio items and have it set to show 6 on a page everything is fine until you flow through to page 4 and 5 where I get a page not found error. I have tried this disabling all plugins and have no clue what is causing this. I apologize in advance if this has been covered already here. I was having time getting through all 72 pages of posts on this theme. Thank you

ThemeBlvd

Hello,

In your WordPress settings, try setting the global page per posts option to match what you’re putting into the portfolio options.

To do this, go to Settings > Reading > Blog posts to show at most and enter the same number you’re using for the portfolio settings.

Does this solve the issue?

  • Bought between 1 and 9 items

Cool cool cool . . that was perfect. Would have liked to keep #of portfolio items and # of blog posts per page different but that fixes what was happening. Moving right along with the portfolio questions – I am taking advantage of having 3 portfolio posts on my home page. It seems to be showing the random portfolio items in this area on the home page and I will get a different 3 on the front page at different times and between different browsers. Am I missing the way to control what portfolio items display on the home page beyound selecting the porfolio to display and have it show the newest ones on the home page? Also the media player color I can assign in the portfolios options isn’t changing for me. It takes just fine the in the complexity control area but never changes on the site. I dig the theme or else I wouldn’t be slaving away to make all this work. Thank you also for you excellent support.

ThemeBlvd
It seems to be showing the random portfolio items in this area on the home page and I will get a different 3 on the front page.

This is a bug in the theme. Here’s how to fix. Open up this file:

/includes/theme_functions/complexity_portfolio.php

Find this line towards the top:

$query_string = "post_type=portfolio-item&order=ASC&orderby=menu_order&posts_per_page=$num";

And change it to this:

$query_string = "post_type=portfolio-item&posts_per_page=$num";

And they will now show with the most recent first on the homepage.

Also the media player color I can assign in the portfolios options isn’t changing for me.

I’ve never heard of this one before. I went and double checked on my end and I’m able to change the color of the video player and it’s working on my end for both self-hosted video and audio in the portfolio.

Are you sure you’re putting in the color value correctly without the pound symbol?—For example black would be “000000” and not ”#000000”

Default-user

excellent . . . If you wind up fixing this I would suggest keeping the random protfolio option as a feature. Cool but not for this project.

Now the media player color issue – I was using the color picker feature attached and there was no # before the 6 character. To double check we are talking the media color player option under the portfolios page under the complexity theme options. It is not doing anything and again I have tired this will al the plug-ins turned off. Newest word press build. Just updated the other day. I was using a special wordpress secure build that was avialable from you hosting company – webair, but I still can’t change the color of player after updating WP version. If there is a place I can just hardcode this it would be fine. I wouldn’t be changing this around anyway.

Side note that may or maynot have anything to do with the theme. Just tested site on my andriod phone and the movies don’t play. The window opens but just stays the background color. .Mp4 file format . . . . should this be automatic and just work fine right out of your theme? or is this something I should be getting a plug-in for and rethink my whole way of presenting the media.

Appreciate the very quick and totally specific solutions.

Jason

ThemeBlvd

Something isn’t right with what you’re describing on the media player. I just changed the live demo from default black to a shade of blue like this:

Screenshot: http://picturestack.com/794/418/KlPScreenShotw48.png

And you can now see the live portfolio’s items when brought up have a blue player.

Screenshot: http://picturestack.com/794/452/fD8ScreenShotGDf.png

Live Link: http://www.themeblvd.com/demo/complexity/portfolio/audio/

Is this not what you’re talking about? I still have never heard of this being an issue, but if you really wanted to hardcode it would happen here where you see the $color variable:

/framework/functions/themeblvd_media.php

Yeah, this theme uses my old system and isn’t responsive in any way unfortunately, and so nothing has been designed for mobile.

Default-user

wow . . . my bad. I was trying to change the player to a dark shade of gray to match and fit the dark theme option that comes as a site appearance preset. I was expecting the white area around the player to be changing . . . . the player is in fact changing colors. I just did a pink test. I was stuck trying to change the white area surrounding it all to a dark gray and never ever noticed a change since the player was always dark gray. Apologize about the confusion. That being said is there a way to change this? The title text when in white can’t be read on this white background. Really dug the firebug tip you mentioned to someone in a previous post. That doesn’t help in finding this overlay light box effect border. Again . . .thank you for a great theme.

ThemeBlvd

This is the player used if you want to play with what actual parameters you could theoretically pass in.

http://activeden.net/item/mp3-player-with-multiple-instances/96745

(There’s a list of them there on the plugin’s Item Details page)

You can control how the player shows from that themeblvd_media function I referenced in this file:

/framework/functions/themeblvd_media.php

[edit] Come to think of it, I do have two parameters with hard-coded color values being passed in you can play with there, as well. controls_color and controls_color_over—I can’t remember what they do exactly, as I did all this a really long time ago.

How can one change the height of the slide shows on the home page :\

ThemeBlvd

Hello,

I apologize, but adjusting the height of the slider is not a feature of the theme. This is a customization you’d need to make to the theme. You’d have to adjust the crop size for slider images at the top of /includes/theme_functions/general.php and make the appropriate CSS changes for the slider’s height.

Quick question, how well does this template work on iPhone/iPad & Android?

Do self hosted mp4 video files play on iPhone/iPad & Android?

Do Vimeo or YouTube video’s play on the iPhone/iPad & Android?

ThemeBlvd

Hello,

This is an older theme and was never made to be responsive. The self-hosted videos definitely won’t work on iOS because they are flash only. I don’t know about Android. And I’d assume Vimeo and Youtube would work. I’d just open up the theme’s live demo on play around with it, but I make no claims to the responsiveness of this theme, as it’s never been tested or developed for mobile devices.

I’d take a look at our responsive themes, however keep in mind they do not come with support for self-hosted videos; you’d have to incorporate a plugin for that.
