Is the compare+ plugin included in the theme?

awesem

Hi binarybiscuit,

thanks for your query. We offer the Compare+ plugin separately from the theme and the single license costs $99 (until 31.03.2012). We have split the theme and the advanced functionality so that we can release multiple theme designs that work with the plugin.

You can find more details about the plugin via the link below and we are currently working on the finishing touches for the demo site which will be available shortly:

http://www.awesemthemes.com/products/compare-plus

Please let us know if you have any further queries regarding Compare or Compare+.

Thanks

Hi James,

hope you are well and thanks for buying the Compare theme. You can make a button with the image above using the following HTML and CSS :

HTML :

<a href="#" class="button"><span class="border">This is a button</span></a>
<a href="#" class="button-alt">This is a button</a>

CSS :

/* -- Button (border) -- */
.button { color: #fff; text-shadow: 0 1px 0 #000; display: inline-block; text-decoration: none; height: 39px; line-height: 39px; background: #222 url('bg-menu.png') 0 0 repeat; border: 1px solid #000; -moz-border-radius: 3px; -webkit-border-radius: 3px; border-radius: 3px; }
.button .border { display: block; border: 1px solid #555; padding: 0 20px; height: 37px; -moz-border-radius: 2px; -webkit-border-radius: 2px; border-radius: 2px; }
.button:hover { background-position: 0 -37px; }
.button:hover .border { border-color: #444; }
.button:active {  }
.button:visited {  }

/* -- Button (no border) -- */
.button-alt { color: #fff; text-shadow: 0 1px 0 #000; display: inline-block; text-decoration: none; height: 37px; line-height: 37px; background: #222 url('bg-menu.png') 0 0 repeat; border: 1px solid #000; -moz-border-radius: 3px; -webkit-border-radius: 3px; border-radius: 3px; padding: 0 20px; }

hello, few pre-sale questions :

Can I import multiple catalogues as CSV files from diff suppliers with this theme?

Whats the difference between this theme and the $99 advanced plugin? ie. what doesn’t this theme do that it would with the $99 plugin?

I dont want to buy this theme and then find that its limited to certain number of products, for example.

Is the theme buddypress compatible and would it allow users to add their own csv file and manage their own store?

Thanks in advance might be just what Im after.

awesem

Hi nlvq,

thank you for your query and interest in our new Compare Price Comparison theme.

In regards to your questions:

Multiple CSV catalogues from different suppliers – Our Compare theme provides basic functionality and it allows you to maintain a single CSV file that contains all products and retailers. The format of this CSV is pre-defined and you can find a sample file here: http://www.awesem.com/resources/sample-products.csv

The Compare+ plugin provides more advanced functionality and you can create multiple CSV or XMLs feeds, typically one per retailer. For each feed structure you create a blueprint (parser) which you can then reuse for feeds from different retailers that have the same structure (typically one for each affiliate network, e.g. Tradedoubler or CommissionJunction).

The plugin also has in-built cron jobs so that the live XML and CSV feeds get updated daily and it also provides functionality to map categories and products.

Please note that you require the theme to run the plugin and we do not offer a standalone version of the plugin.

In terms of limits, the plugin’s limit depends on your server infrastructure and the size of the feeds you are intending to use. If your site runs in a shared hosting environment then your server might only be able to import a few thousand products per feed. If you have a dedicated server with plenty of resources (CPU + RAM ) then this is limit is of course much higher and you should be able to process most CSV or XML feeds.

In regards to BuddyPress, unfortunately, the theme is not compatible with BuddyPress by default and it doesn’t come with functionality for different users to view different data. In the current version (v1.0) users would be able to see all feeds etc. I would be interested to hear more about your individual requirements to see if we should incorporate this in a future version.

I hope this clarifies all your pre-sale questions.

Please let me know if you are still unclear about anything and we will be more than happy to provide further information.

Kind regards

Olaf

Hi there, the theme looks awesome! One question for me though which is very important for buying or not:

Is there any way how the products can also be compared on other specifications? Say: I want to make a page with all apple iPhones, and I want to give my visitors the opportunity to filter on price, colour, storage, and so on. And then based on their chosen filters, the products that fit their needs are shown, together with their best price?

Furthermore, is it possible to create a page where two or three products are shown next to each other, with their specifications?

Hope to hear from you since I can’t wait to start :)

awesem

Hi hidde_r,

thanks for your feedback and we are pleased to hear that you like our new Compare theme.

In regards to your pre-sale question, filters are a very good point. In this first version (v1.0), we only provide a comparison on price and we have not included any other filters such as colours, storage etc. This feature is on our wishlist and we are hoping to implement this in a future release but we have no concrete plans about timescales at this stage.

The side-by-side product comparison is a nice idea which I will add to the wishlist. We currently do not have this feature but we should be able provide a new shortcode for this that takes two product IDs. I will group this together with the filters so that we implement this together when we get around to this.

I hope this answers your pre-sales queries and please let us know if you have any further questions.

Thanks

Pre-sale question:

Does it have a feature to switch between currencies based on a buyer’s location or preference (by option somewhere in the page)?

Thank you.

awesem

Hi Agentsquid,

thanks for your query and interest in our Compare theme.

At the moment, the theme only supports a single currency that applies to all products. Currently supported are: $, € and £.

I will add your suggestion to our wishlist and we will consider it in a future release. In the next release we are considering additional currencies but multi-currency support would take a bit longer.

Please let me know if you have any further queries about the theme’s functionality.

Promising theme :)

First, I’d also like to see front-end filtering and sorting options.

Second, I tried to find detailed information about the Compare+ plugin on your website. In fact, I found so little information that I wouldn’t dare to buy these product(s) at the moment. For one, I have no clue how you identify and connect identical products coming from different feeds, a pretty big deal when it comes to price comparison solutions. Don’t know how stuff like product category mapping is handled etc etc.

Add more information please, and preferably a full-scale demo with admin-access.

Thanks!

awesem

Hi dblomster,

thanks for your interest in our new Compare theme and Compare+ plugin.

In regards to your questions, in the current version you can sort by price, filter by category and brand. We will be exploring further options for additional attributes in future.

You are absolutely right about the product information and we are currently working on the Compare+ demo site, product description and WordPress test accounts. These tasks have taken us a bit longer than planned. We are hoping to get these all completed by the end of the week.

In regards to the product mapping in Compare+, this is primarily based on the EAN number, product name and mappings created via the admin area. Product category mapping is a manual one-off step that needs to be done per product feed.

Furthermore, we have an option to force import products and categories in order to ignore any mappings.

Please let me know if you have any further questions on our two new products. It would be great if you could check back again in a couple of days by when we hopefully have all the information in place.

Kind regards

where is my navigation and logo? I’ve already added the files. http://www.reviewsoftours.com/
awesem

Hi fengqingyang297,

thank you for your query regarding our new Compare theme.

In terms of the navigation, there was a bug with the styling for the default menu that uses wp_list_categories rather than a custom menu.

We’ve addressed this problem in yesterday’s release (v1.0.3) which is available on ThemeForest now. You could either update your theme files (make sure you take a backup of your files and database just in case).

Alternatively, you could replace header.php from v1.0.3 (again, take a backup and merge in any of your custom changes).

Another solution to fix the problem would be to simply replace this code in header.php:

<ul class="top-nav"> <?php wp_list_categories(array('title_li' => '' )); ?> </ul>

replace with this new code:

 <div class="menu-main-menu-container">
     <ul id="menu-main-menu" class="menu">
             <?php wp_list_categories(array('title_li' => '' )); ?>
    </ul>
</div>

In regards to the plain text logo and tagline you are using, we will have a look into this and address the problem with the current styling as seen on your site so that both the logo text and tagline flow a bit nicer and don’t affect the leaderboard banner. You can also consider using an image logo which you can upload via the theme options in the admin area.

Please let me know how you get on with this and if you experience any further problems.

Thanks

Olaf

awesem

Hi fengqingyang297,

in regards to the logo and the tagline, if you make the following change then they both should flow a bit nice.

header.php (line 141)

WAS : <?php bloginfo( ‘name’ ); ?>

NEW : <?php bloginfo( ‘name’ ); ?>

style.css (lines 132 to 134)

WAS : .logo { width: auto; float: left; margin: 20px; } .logo.image { line-height: 0; } .logo img { width: 192px; }

NEW : .logo { width: 184px; float: left; margin: 20px; } .logo.image { line-height: 0; } .logo img { width: 184px; } .logo .plain-text { font-size: 20px; line-height: 30px; font-weight: bold; } .logo #tagline { font-size: 11px; font-style: italic; }

We will also add this to the next release shortly.

Please let me know if you experience any problems with this.

hi Olaf, thanks for your reply. i follow your advice but the navigation seems still the same, no change with the main-menu

awesem

Hi fengqingyang297,

We’ve had a look at your menu and we found the problem. Currently, it only works if the menu is called “Main Menu”. We’ve now added a container class so that it will work with any menu name.

It would be great if you could change header.php (line 165)

WAS :

 <?php wp_nav_menu(array('theme_location' => 'main-nav')); ?>

IS:

<?php wp_nav_menu(array('theme_location' => 'main-nav', 'container_class' => 'menu-main-menu-container')); ?>

We will also add this change to the next release.

Please let me know if you experience any problems with this.

thanks for your query. I’ve had a look at your site and appears to be coming along nicely.

In regards to the category images, there are two different types of images: category image and category icon. The category icon gets used on the homepage. Could you check if this is not set for the three categories that currently don’t have any image?

awesem

Hi Will,

I’ve had a look at the problem with the product caroussel. I think there might have been a bug in that release (v1.0.3) where we omnited a class when we merged in our new changes. Could you download v1.0.4 from ThemeForest and replace your widget-homepage-products.php file. This should resolve the problem. You can also consider updating your entire theme to v1.0.4 but please make sure you take a copy of the theme in case you’ve made any changes. An easy way to do this is to rename your current compare folder to e.g. compare_20120319 and then reuplad the compare folder from the download file. You can then download compare_20120319 and use e.g. WinMerge to compare it against the download file and check for any differences.

Please let me know if you experience any problems with this.

Kind regards

Olaf

Hi Will,

regarding the index.php in your permalinks, there is a section about this in this article. It suggests that you are using an “almost pretty” structure and there is a plugin that checks for more details about the permalinks you are choosing:

http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks

It appears that you are using a Windows server ( Microsoft-IIS/6.0 X-Powered-By: ASP .NET X-Powered-By: PHP /5.2.17) and I suspect that the index.php might be required by IIS to achieve these “almost pretty” URLs. This should be a fairly common problem. I’ve come across this article which might be helpful:

http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/466/enabling-pretty-permalinks-in-wordpress/

Please let me know how you get on with this.

Hello, I would like to know how do you create pages on the black bar shown in the demo? I’m having a bit trouble developing that. Also, how do I create sub-categories under the main product category? Thanks.

awesem

Hi jhayesx1,

thanks for your query regarding the menu navigation.

You need to create a custom menu under “Appearance > Menu” and call it “Main Menu”. You then need to assign this to the “Theme location” on the left.

Up until v1.0.3 you have to call your custom menu “Main Menu”. We’ve fixed this in v1.0.4 so that you can give it any name. This new release should become available on ThemeForest later today.

In regards to sub-categories, you can drag and drop the pages in the custom menu and you indent the child pages by a level.

For more details you can have a look at this article:

http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/

Please let me know if you experience any problems with this.

Hi jhayesx1,

thanks for your query regarding the slider. You can add slides under “Slides” in the left hand navigation of the admin area. The slide image is a “featured image” and here is good article that explains how to set these:

It’s important that you click the “use as featured image” link which is easy to miss.

Hello,

I really like your template and would like to buy it but I need an extra-info from you. I want to make a comparison website for digital cameras. Besides the price comparison, I would like to integrate a features comparison. For example, you could select 3 cameras and you will be shown a list of features and you will be able to compare – size, weigth, MPX , zoom, etc. Those information I think would have to be manually introduced in the database the moment you create the product (so the product should have a various number of fields). Please tell me if your template can do such thing. I surely will need some plugins. Could you tell me what are those?

Regards, Laurentiu

awesem

Hi nlaur86,

thank you for your email and interest in our Price Comparison theme. Great that you are considering to use if for digital cameras.

In regards to your questions, currently our theme doesn’t have functionality to compare product features side-by-side. We’ve had a couple of requests for this feature and we’ve added it the wishlist. Additional product attributes has also been a popular request which we will also consider in a future release but at the moment these are not supported.

In terrms of plugins, the Compare theme doesn’t rely on other plugins as such. If you require XML /CSV feed imports via automatic WP crons then you could have a look at our Compare+ plugin. Additionally, you should consider popular plugins such as WP SEO , W3 Total Cache, Maintenance Mode, WordPress Importer etc

Please let me know if you have any further questions about our Compare theme.

Thanks

Hello, the Sidebar Products Categories widget on my website (http://vgxcommerce.com/ ) does not seem to hide the sub-categories like your demo. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks.

awesem

Hi jhayesx1,

thanks for your query. I’ve had a look at your site and I really your implementation of the theme. It looks great.

The sub-menus don’t get hidden due to a jQuery error:

Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property ‘top’ of null in scroll.js. I think this happens because your homepage is the blog listing rather than the homepage template and we didn’t pick up this error during testing.

We will work on a fix for this over the weekend.

Please let us know if you are experiencing any other problems.

Kind regards

Olaf

awesem

Hi jhayesx1,

regarding the problem with the jQuery error on your homepage, could you remove the following 2 two lines from your functions.php file and check if that resolves the problem:

wp_register_script( 'scroll', get_template_directory_uri() . '/_assets/js/scroll.js', array( 'jquery' ), '1.0', false );

and

wp_enqueue_script( 'scroll' );

Please let me know how you get on with this.
