Hi Olaf, how can I add some reviews or html code on the products page? the introduction of the product is short of detail and beauty. http://www.reviewsoftours.com/index.php/products/reviews-of-guilin-tours/guilin-tours/3-days-guilin-and-li-river-cruise/

Hi Will,

it appears that this page is giving some kind of error. Could you enable your PHP error reporting to see what might be causing this?

Could you post this information in the forum so that we can look into this as I will have limited access to the Internet today and tomorrow.

Thanks

Olaf

Hi there,

I recently bought your compare theme, together with compare+. At the moment I am putting my website together, but I have 1 question. I will use your life preview of the theme as an illustration of my question:

On the homepage of the life preview you have the product categories in blue. Lets take the category “Tablets” as an example. Within this category, you can click on the sub-category “Internet Tablets”. Clicking on this sub-category, one is linked to a page with all brands available for the Internet tablets. With the next click you can see all product available in this sub-category for a specific brand.

1. Product category 2. Sub-category 3. Brands 4. Products

Lets say I would like to build a website with only 1 product category: “Tablets”. On the homepage I would like to have the brands in blue (instead of the product categories). Lets say I have the brand “Apple”. In the same box, on the homepage, I would like to show the different tablets offered by the brands. In the box “Apple” one can choose for “Ipad1”, “Ipad2”, “Ipad3” (instead of “Internet Tablet”.)

Clicking on “iPad1”, I would like to show a page with all available iPad1 varieties: 8 GB, 16GB, 32 GB and how many retailers are selling them (and the lowest price). And this is excactly where my question is about.

1. Brands 2. Type of product 3. Products

I am able to create the website and have the homepage with all brands, together with the type of products the brand offers. But when clicking on one of these types, one is directed to a page with all available brands, while I would like to direct to a page with all available products within this product type. Actually, I would like to skip a step in the process.

Is a structure like above mentioned possible, how should I implement this, and does it have any negative affects on the feed import features?

Hope you can help :)

Hi Hidde_r,

thank you for your query and apologies for taking so long to get back to you. The last couple of weeks have been extremey busy and we are slowly getting back on top of things.

By default, the theme and plugin work as you explained:

1. Product category

http://www.awesem.biz/compare-plus/products/tablets

2. Sub-category

http://www.awesem.biz/compare-plus/products/apple-ipad

3. Brands

http://www.awesem.biz/compare-plus/products/apple-ipad/apple

4. Products

http://www.awesem.biz/compare-plus/product/apple-ipad/apple/apple-ipad-2-16gb-wi-fi-apple-a5-1ghz-dual-core-9-7-inch-display-white

As it stands, this structure is fixed due to the underlying templates:

1. Product category

taxonomy-product_category.php

2. Sub-category

taxonomy-product_category.php

3. Brands

taxonomy-product_bisbrand.php

4. Products

single-product.php

It is fairly complex to change the taxonomy slug structures and all the taxonomies template files and it wouldn’t be an easy customisation.

First, I was wondering if it would be an option to simply swap the brand name and category name in the parser setup which would allow you to have the brand names in the blue boxes on the homepage. However, you wouldn’t be able to map the product categories to e.g. Ipad 1 and Ipad 2 as the two products would probably be in the same category in the feed and at the moment it’s not possible to map categories of individual products (we are now considering this and evaluating the implications).

However, if your feed would have the products in different categories, e.g. Ipad 1 and Ipad 2 then this option might address your requirements for the homepage setup and might even work for the underlying pages (although the terminology will be wrong as a brand will be called category and vice versa but that’s an easy change in the template).

Alternatively, you could consider customising the homepage categories widget only and link it to the relavent pages as you outlined whilst keeping the taxonomies as they are.

Please email us on support@awesem.co.,uk if you would like to discuss your setup requirements further.

Kind regards

Olaf

Hi Koztekin,

thank you for sending your screenshot. There was a problem with the CSS and we didn’t provide a style for category based menus and only custom menus rendered correctly. We’ve updated this in v1.0.3 (15.03.2012) and I suggest you upgrade to the latest version (v1.0.6 – 31.03.2012) which should fix a number of other problems.

Before you upgrade I also suggest you take a full database and file backup.

Please let me know if you experience any problems with this.

Hello,

I’m interested in this theme and the additional plugin. I’ve used the contact form at your web site, asking for an admin demo, but haven’t got any response. Can I get a full-scale demo before purchasing?

Hi dblomster,

thanks for your query and apologies for not getting back to you earlier. We are a little bit behind with support queries and we are slowly catching up.

In regards to the demo accounts, I am currently in the process of moving our test account onto a new server which I hopefully complete over the weekend. I will email you with the details as soon as this is ready.

Kind regards

This weekend we moved all our demo sites over to a new hosting provider and we still haven’t got around to setting up the test accounts for our Compare and Compare Plus products. We are hoping to get this completed this week. I will send you a message as soon as these are up and running.

Hi,

In your demo one of the menu tabs (More stuff tab) is unclickable. How do I get to set it that way without opening a new page? I would like to set it as a parent category. Also, is there an option or a possible way to disable the visibility of the posts’ dates?

awesem

Hi jhayesx1,

thank you for your queries.

1. To create an “unclickable” menu item you can add ”#” (without quotes) as the destination URL as shown here:

http://awesomescreenshot.com/0342kzw5b

2. To remove the date on the blog, you need to edit index.php and remove line 16-18 starting with:

<div class="blog-single date">...</div>

Please let us know if you experience any problems with this.

Thanks

Great theme and will be buying, but let me ask you this:

How many products will be too much for the theme without the Compare+ plugin by the hassle involved with manual feeds etc.?

Few hundred or a couple of thousands?

Cheers.

awesem

Hi Sciencemies,

thank you for your query and interest in our new Compare theme.

In regards to a managable number of products using the manual feed in Compare, this would primarily depend on the nature of the products you are going to compare.

If product (or service) prices do not change frequently then it might be possible for you to have a larger number of products. However, if your product prices change daily then it could be a lot of work to update the prices manually.

Please note that Compare is based on a single CSV file which contains all products and retailers or it can be administered via the WordPress admin interface.

Compare+ works with individual XML and CSV feeds which are typically provided by affiliate networks or retailers. You need to set up one feed per retailer. These feeds can contain several thousand products and the WordPress cron job would update each feed every day. Typically, these feeds are managed by the retailer which means that you don’t have to do anything and the product details and prices get updated automatically.

The maximum number of products Compare+ can handle depends on your server specification and how much RAM and CPU resources you have available.

Please let us know if you have further questions about our Compare theme.

Kind regards

Olaf

What is up with the 50 dollar price hike for the compare plus. I am an original owner of the compare template and had to sweat over all of the bugs with it. I should at the least be able to get the compare plus at the 99 rate.

awesem

Hi Winston,

I hope you are well and thank you for your feedback.

We really appreciate your continued support and are grateful that you beared with us while we addressed all the initial bugs.

The $99 price was a promotional offer intended for early adopters that ended on 31.03 and we increased the price to $149 at the beginning of April. Even at $149 we feel it’s very good value as we provide a high level of support to ensure that you get your price comparison site up and running.

hi i looked over your compare plugin and themes, but i cant understand what you are offering

i see the iphone page which compares iphones, but this can be done using custom post types, i dont see anything that stands out

for example should you not have a compare form allowing users to enter data, ie price, spec, then compare,

you plugin seems limited, am i missing something

awesem

Hi Will1234Craig,

thank you for your query and interest in our Compare and Compare+ products.

The Compare theme provides functionality to compare products from different retailers in a single CSV which has a predefined format as shown in this example file: http://awe.sm/5jJUh

Alternatively, you can manually add, edit and delete products via the WordPress admin interface.

The Compare+ plugin extends the theme (it only works together with the Compare theme) and it provides functionality to add XML and CSV from different retailers which are typically available from affiliate networks such as TradeDoubler or AffiliateWindow. Once you defined the feed structure and added your feeds, the system will automatically import the product data on a daily basis.

Furthermore, the plugin provides functionality to map categories and products required to build your own price comparison and we are going to expand the functionality over the coming weeks and an integration with Amazon for example is a new feature on our list.

I understand that the product information we provide on our website http://awe.sm/5jJVQ is fairly limited at the moment. We will be expanding on this over the coming weeks, provide more screen shots and improve the demo site and possibly provide videos tutorials to show you how to use the product.

Please feel to email is via our profile page http://awe.sm/5jJU3 if you have further questions about our new Compare and Compare+ products.

Kind regards

awesem

Hi fengqingyang297,

thank you for your query. Could you check that you used the Compare product ID as shown here:

http://awesomescreenshot.com/0dc3hlc6e

Once you established that you are using the correct ID and it still doesn’t show it then you could add some debugging in _functions/shortcodes.php and search for “function price_table”. In this function you could add debugging by placing these two lines after ”$merchants = $wpdb->get_results($q);” so that you end up with:

$merchants = $wpdb->get_results($q);
print_r($q);
print_r($merchants);

In regards to your second question, are you still experiencing this problem? It looks like you addressed this and the back to top/bottom scroller on the right that you implemented is working nicely for me.

Please let me know how you get on with this and let us know if you experience any further problems.

Hello, I could make the instalation with no problems, but when I clicked in the “Compare” menu this error showed up. I re-instaled it again through FTP and the same error ocurred. What can I do to solve this problem?

awesem

Hi gsaraiva,

thank you for raising this. It appears that this was caused by the functions file being included in merchants_management.php, products_feed.php, products_management.php and home.php which must have sneaked in when we merged the code in our repository.

You can remove the function.php file included in the files above which should solve the problem. We are going to fix this now and update the release file.

Apologies for any inconvenience this might have caused.

Hello i am very interested in this theme

how ever it seems the demo doesnt work properly?

could you also help answer a few questions

is it possible to hook this up with googles products feed? to get the prices and products? that way in theory a website could list every single product in the world and compare it?

awesem

Hi sobrilliant,

thank you for your interest in our Compare theme and thanks for raising the problems you spotted on our demo site. I’ve reimported our sample data and everything should be working fine again. Please let me know if you do spot any further problems.

Regarding Google Products, our Compare theme is based on a single CSV feed as it stands and our Compare+ plugin allows you to add several XML /CSV product feeds from different retailers. We are currently working a couple of new features and fixes for both Compare and Compare+ and we will be considering Google Products as you suggested which is an interesting integration. We are also looking at ways to integrate the Amazon Product Advertising API .

Please let me know if you have further suggestions or questions on this.

Hi again,

Did not you answer the question I asked 12 days ago, I’m waiting and I have an other problem.

Product characteristics can not intervene in the written form of the area. Comes in the form of plain text. Skip the line. Articles do not write thick. Link does not. How can I change them, thanks..

awesem

Hi koztekin,

apologies for not getting back to you to your question on the previous thread. We somehow missed it.

Regarding your first query:

“I don’t want use the retailers, therefore I want to put a product picture instead of the retailer’s picture. I hope we can make. Thank you very much. Best regards”

If you would like to replace the retailer image with a product image on the detail page then you could change price-table.php.

This is the code that displays the retailer logo:

<a class="image" href="<?php echo str_replace('&','&',$merchant->deeplink); ?>" rel="nofollow">
<img src="<?php echo home_url().'/wp-content/uploads/compare/merchants/'.$merchant->image; ?>" alt="<?php echo stripslashes($merchant->name); ?>" title="" />
</a>

Replace this:

<?php echo home_url().'/wp-content/uploads/compare/merchants/'.$merchant->image; ?>

With this:

<img src="<?php echo str_replace('&','&',$merchant->feed_product_image); ?>" alt="<?php echo $merchant->feed_product_name; ?>" />

In regards to your second query, if you would like to output HTML elements then you need to edit single-product.php and remove the following line:

$content = strip_tags($content);

Please let me know if you experience any problems with this.

Kind regards
