I’m thinking about purchasing this theme but one question that I have… Would it be possible to get rid of the comments in the article/blog posts and add a facebook comment bar instead? Thanks

Yes, you can use a plugin for the Facebook comments, and then you should be able to turn off comments on individual articles. There is also a plugin that allows you to turn off comments site-wide. Let me know if you have trouble with this and I can help you via the support forum.
