Discussion on Creative Skeleton - responsive WordPress theme

Hi Tom.

First off, congrats on your great design. I’ve just purchased the theme and I’m having fun with tweaking it so it fits my needs. :)

I am having a little trouble with the sliders though (not the header one, another one I’m trying to add on my frontpage with selected work) If you look at it: http://www.palettepalette.com the slider shows only one parcel of the real images, like only a stripe, while the real images are 621×525 pixels.

Do you know what can be the problem?

Thank you so much. Bruna

Hello,

Thanks for your purchase! :)

Have you set the slider height? I’ve just read the documentation myself, and noticed that I’ve forgot to mention how to set slider height, sorry for that.

If you’re using [slider id=”slider_id”] shortcode, please use it like this: [slider id=”slider_id” height=”300”] (you can use any value to replace that 300. It’s height in pixels, tho you dont need to add px at the end, just the integer)

Hope this helps, Tom

Hi Tom,

It worked! Thanks for the quickest answer ever. :)

Glad it worked :)

Please contact me with any other issues you might have, I’ll do my best to sort those out for you.

This theme’s awesome. It looks unique and is well thought-out. The developer got back to me within like twenty seconds to show me how I was making a silly error. Thanks so much!

Thanks, Alex!

Have fun using Creative Skeleton. And, as I’ve mentioned in my emails, be sure to contact me with any issues or bugs you find.

Hi there! Gorgeous theme! I’m excited to get started with this. It’s possible I missed a read me or some other instruction, and I’m not sure where your icons are. Please let me know. I see the kitchen sink listings for the icons (great toolbar BTW) and that works just fine to enter the short code. Just missing the image selection. Thanks for your help! Kimberly

dekciw

Hey, Kimberly.

You dont need to use all the URL in the shortcode :) just use the ID part of the URL. In your case, correct shortcode would be – [youtube] vhuw06RGPY0 [/youtube] :)

Hope this helps,

Tom

Hi Tom, Im considering buying this Wordpress Theme. 2 questions… 1. Does it allow me to choose a different sidebar for each of my pages? 2. Does the slider header allow for videos? thanks and hope to hear back!

dekciw

Hey,

You’re right – header has two options, let it be 960px or fullwidth. The thing is, that if you choose your slider to be 960px you know that you have to upload 960px images, but if you choose your slider to be fullwidth, it will stretch to fit users browser width, so the width of the image would need to vary. Taking that in mind, your images in slider will always fit horizontaly (no horizontal cropping is applied to slider) but might be cropped verticaly.

If you have purchased the theme already, it would be great if you could drop me an email using contact form on profile page, that way I can verify your purchase :)

Great, thanks! :)

Howdy Tom!

This theme looks amazing and it is perhaps on of the best I have seen but I have a question about the homepage. Can I have a sidebar on the homepage? Lets say I have the same layout you have on your demo page, could I add a sidebar to the right?

Another question I have is; can I have different blog boxes on the homepage for different categories? Lets say I have a category for Cats and one for Dogs. Can I have two boxes on the homepage that show the latest posts on those categories?

I hope you can help me out with those doubts. I am really into this theme and it could serve quite good for my needs. Hope you have a nice day!

dekciw

Hey :)

Yes, you can have a sidebar on homepage (using default page template and not the ‘fullwidth’ one). Tho’, blog/portfolio ‘rows’ (boxes) might be need some CSS tweaking, cause by default they are supposed to be fullwidth.

And yes, having few boxes for different blog categories is also possible. Blog posts are outputed by using [blog] shortcode which accepts param ‘category’ to filter out posts by exact category.

If you need more any more clarification – just ask! :)

Had purchased this theme a while back. Had some issues then and had an issue today. In both cases Tom helped me out and responded literally in minutes. Great theme and great service!

Thanks for your kind words, Stefan!

I’m glad you’re enjoying Creative Skeleton :)

Excellent Job man :)

Hi there – Thinking of purchasing and just has one question before I do. Can the images in the header/slider link to another page on the site? I want each image to take users to its associated portfolio page.

Thanks and great theme!

dekciw

Hey,

Yes, when you create a slider, you can set links for every single slide. Tho, if you use a static image in header, you wont be able to make it ‘clickable’.

Thanks for your interest,

Tom

Loving this design! It’s very clean, modern and perfect for my needs. My favorite part, though, is the support from Tom, who has been invaluable to a beginner like me!

Keep up the good work, Tom!

dekciw

Thanks, Nicole!

Tom

Hi dekciw! Quick question—can you point me to where in the code I can set default options for header image and height for all pages/posts? I want to keep the same header site-wide, so it doesn’t make sense to put it in every time.

Thanks for a very cool and well-built theme! Feel free to PM me if you prefer.

dekciw

Ok, tested this on my other theme, it works great :) So, please let me know if you have any problems doing it yourself – I’ll gladly help you!

Is there a way to turn off the date published on the pages?

dekciw

Hey,

Please check the “Documentation” folder in your main download package :) There’s a documentation included. You can definately find icon, whitespace, and other useful stuff in there.

If you still cant figure out something, please let me know – I’ll do my best to sort things out for you.

Very new to this whole Word Press thing, but so far your theme is not super daunting. I am, however, having trouble with portfolios. I am following along with your guide included with the download, but so far am having no luck with portfolios showing up. There is no link under “works” which is my page title for the index portfolio page and as I set up the portfolio in the dashboard, when I preview I don’t see any images. I’m sure that I have just missed something. Any help would be appreciated.

dekciw

Hey,

Thanks for your purchase! :)

One thing that pops into my mind right now, is that you forgot to set ‘featured image’ for your portfolio items.

Basically, just go and edit any portfolio item and on the right of the screen you will see the box which says ‘set featured image’. Click that link, and choose an image which will show up on your portfolio index page. Hope this helps!

Additionally, I’m on a mobile device at the moment, and cannot investigate your issue further. But if my suggestion won’t help you, feel free to send me an email from the contact box on my profile page, and I’ll sort this out for you when I’ll get home.

Tom

Hi Dekciw,

Very nice WordPress theme. Just what i was looking for! I will be purchasing this for one of my customers :)

Hi there, Just purchased this, but when I try to install it Wordpress returns an error saying:

The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet.

Any ideas?

dekciw

Hey,

Thanks for your purchase!

Before installing the theme, please extract the archive you’ve downloaded :) It should solve this.

Does this come with an xml file? For example like the demo I saw? I’m not to handy with coding on wordpress etc, and that would be a real help for me. Thanks

dekciw

Hey,

Thanks for your purchase!

No, actually this theme does not come with XML included. Tho’, it should be kinda easy to setup following the documentation included (no programming skills needed).

If you still can’t figure out how to setup your newly purchased theme, please send me a message using the contact form on my profile page and I’ll provide you with XML or any needed guidance. (Tho’, it’s weekend and we’re havin Easter in my country, so I won’t be able to respond until Monday).

Ironically, also Tom.

dekciw

You definately won’t bother me :) Feel free to send me an email, if you struggle setting Creative Skeleton up.

Tom :)

Hi, I am looking for some help with regards to the theme. I really love the look. I am using this for a blog purpose only. Unfortunately I am having problems getting the links to show, as the links should simply link to my categories and when I click on read more the sidebar disappears, any suggestions?

dekciw

Hello,

Thanks for your purchase!

Could you please send me an email using the contact form on my profile page and provide your website URL + further explanation what exactly is wrong with it. I’ll do my best to clarify things for you!

Tom

Hi there!

Loving the theme so far!

Quick question: Where in the main css (style.css?) do I make an adjustment to make top nav drop-down navigation items wider? Right now, any that are a little longer than others don’t show the entire item, they kind of collapse on themselves.

Example: the drop-down item “Online Reputation Management” only shows “Online Reputation” and the rest is hidden.

I would like it so that if I have a drop-down item that is a bit longer than your default, I can make room for it, by adjusting the css.

Thanks so much in advance for your help! :D

dekciw

Hello,

Great to hear that you’re enjoying Creative Skeleton!

I’ve tested your issue (long menu item titles) on my demo instance of the theme, and I can’t really replicate it :( could you please share your website URL so that I could check it? If it’s private and you don’t want to share it in comments, you can send me an email, using the contact form on my profile page :)

Tom

Hi Tomas! I wrote to you at the email on the live theme’s contact page, so I could add an attachment image of my issue. Please let me know if I have the right email? Thanks! :D

Yup, everything’s great! Check your inbox :)

Tom

hi, your theme is awesome. Wanted to know if the live sample would be going back up soon? lmk and thanks,

dekciw

Oh, thanks for a note! Haven’t noticed that myself :( Seems like my friend wiped the VPS :( It will take me few days to get it back up!
