Thanks again for helping me, it solved my problem and with some padding I managed to colorize the sidebar and placed it correctly.

I added an image to my page (portfolio gallery) but the image (resized) doesn’t show up, all I see is a red x. I already edited the rights of the content folder, cache etc. So what could be the problem?

Here is a link: http://caspergraaf.nl/wordpress/zwartwit/

You are welcome :)

As I can see, you haven’t set the image URL - if automatic thumbnail generation is enabled (as in your case) you have to insert the image URL in the Preview Image URL field of the portfolio item.

Default-user

I did what you said, still doesn’t work though. Added two portfolio items, with URL etc and Preview Image URL but it doesn’t work. Just two red X. Any suggestions?

Cheers, Casper

Wait a sec, the 2nd image now works. Is there a maximum upload limit for images? Because image 2 is smaller.

pexeto

As I can see, the image URL that you have inserted for the first portfolio item is not an URL of existing image, so please make sure you have entered a valid image URL for the item.

You were right, thanks!

Sorry..I accidentally flagged your comment! (Shame on me, stupid!)

I was trying to ask a question but clicked on the report-button instead of the reply-button.

Anyway, thanks for helping me, I’ll work on it. I noticed the Nivo Slider(and maybe the other sliders too, haven’t checked them out yet) doesn’t resize images. I added some images with a size of 1936×1296 and they don’t really fit. Is it necessary to resize images so that they fit in the slider? I know sliders who resize images themselves automatically.

On a side note: I assume you’re working on a FAQ . When will it be complete?

Thanks a lot for your help, it’s much appreciated!

pexeto

Regarding the slider images- as I told to another user- I had some personal preferences about setting automatic resizing to the slider images, but as you are the second one to ask about it- I might include this functionality into the next update (very soon).

Default-user

Thanks, I’ll wait for the next update then!

Great theme. This is the first of the four premium themes I’ve tried that hasn’t run into some form of hurdle that made it more trouble to fix than continue… I guess what I’m saying is that most themes look good with their highly tailored content… the test is when you actually start trying to use them and find out that they’re either full of bugs, or poorly documented, or not really themes at all (i.e., you have to customize the CSS to get the look & feel you thought you were buying as part of the theme) So, really – you have a real winner here: Congratulations! There are a hundred things I’d like to thank you for – but I don’t have time to type them up! Suffice it to say – thanks for your great design aesthetic, the robustness of your theme, and for hitting the right level of rigidity to make the theme useful and yet not so rigid that it breaks the moment you try to add a plugin or mod things a smidge. Really really nice work. So, if listing the few small errata can help you with future versions I’m happy to write them up. But to be clear, I haven’t found anything resembling a show-stopper yet. This is all just intended to make a great theme even better. Fingers crossed, but I think this is “the one”.

Here are some small errata for your tracker: My setup is:

Macbook 4,1 with a 2.4Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM running OSx10. SMC Version 1.31f0, running Firefox 3.5.3, Safari 5.0.1, Opera v.10.63 using the built-in dual-touch trackpad with multi-touch enabled.

1.) Accordion slider drag & drop function: Works fine in Safari. But in Firefox, when you grab a box to sort the order, the mouse will not let go of the box… no amount of clicking, double clicking etc.. will make it drop the box and so you can’t save the change because it just drags the box over the save button which keeps you from saving the change. The workaround is to grab a box, drag it to its new place in the order and then – right click, and choose “select all” from the pop-up menu. This breaks the bond between the cursor and the box so you can go down and hit the “save” button. In Opera when you click on a box to try to move it, the box dissapears. I’m not really sure what Opera is doing or if it’s fixable – I don’t really do much with Opera for this exact type of function compatibility / general weirdness reason – I only have Opera to check compatibility of the final webpage but I was curious to see how it affected this… At any rate, it’s probably at least worth looking into the Firefox errata… don’t know how it works in IExploder.

2.) JQuery Tabs: They don’t seem to have container margins. I don’t know if this is by design, but you have to insert line breaks into the text to get it to stay in the box… so they’re not really acting like containers – more like background artwork. There don’t appear to be any usability problems on a standard browser once you get the thing looking the way you want it, but I imagine that font differences on different platforms and/or dynamic resizing by mobile platforms etc… might play hell with the tabs because they’re not really ‘bounding’ the text within them. It might be useful to make these behave more like true containers with hard margins that are defined relative to the theme’s margins..

3.) Page subtitle gets deleted if you don’t hit its individual ‘save’ button which is down the page from where you enter the subtitle (though you can enter it down the page as well and then this is less of a concern…) OK, yes, this sounds like a stupid errata… of course you have to hit the save button to save something… except… consider that the standard user model of Wordpress is that when you hit the master “update” or “save” button at the top/bottom/side of a form, you pretty much expect all your changes to be registered and saved. I don’t know if you can rig it so that the page subtitle save button (or any other independant save buttons that act this way – I haven’t tried all of the theme’s features yet) will accept the master save/update button as a proxy for hitting all the individual save buttons. This one was a real head-scratcher. At first I thought it was truncating text that exceeded the input box limit… finally paging down I saw the individual save button…

4.) I haven’t seen a way yet to have multiple sliders of a single type… for instance if you wanted to use sliders as galleries for multiple product pages (I’m a woodworker – I make several designs of each product and so I need multiple galleries for each design… like… here is what it looks like in Cherry with upgraded hardware… and in Oak with antique hardware etc…) It’s no biggie… maybe beyond the scope of a theme. I’m using Matthew Ruddy’s ‘Premium Slider’ for this functionality and it works great… a lot of themes seem to break JQuery plugins but yours runs fantastic.

5.) Some little formatting things – the only one worth mentioning is one I can’t seem to replicate now – but it was splitting premium-slider’s container and photographs so the container was on the left side of the page and the photos were on the right side of the page. I think it was when I had sidebars selected. I turned them off in favor of a more traditional website look/feel (not blog-feel). I thought it was an overflow of the margins type issue but no matter how small I made the slider, it still split itself… the container seemed anchored left and pictures seem anchored right… who knows – it may be an issue with the slider’s formatting. In any case – It seems to work now – and in general I like how robustly your theme handles various plugins. I had to disqualify two really nice premium themes because they just couldn’t run anything using Jquery (whether preloaded or not) and so a lot of the really useful plugins were just not an option (language translation, media widgets, 3rd party gallery/slider plugins & widgets etc…) Your theme seems to take them all in stride – no problems with stability at this point.

Best of luck w/ the theme. As I said – it looks like a winner.

pexeto

Hi,

First of all- thank you for the nice words, I’m happy that you like and are satisfied with my theme :) Also, I would like to thank you for spending some time to share you suggestions- I will bear them in mind for future updates of the theme.

Well, I wish I could edit my earlier post but as I can’t – I’ll just append this to it…

The two formatting problems (JQuery tabs and slider weirdness) were NOT a result of the theme. They were from some ‘pre’ tags that were in the Ipsum-Lorem I googled-up and was using to get the layout of the page looking right with the artwork.

The more I reworked the text the weirder things got… At some point I just threw up my hands and said: “This is friggin impossible… even if the pages broke this way… which they couldn’t… they wouldn’t randomly CHANGE the way they broke… deep-breath… deep-breath…deep-breath…

Hmmm….

unless….

;-)

And sure enough – there were a whole bunch of ‘pre’ tags… and because I’d been copy and pasting and deleting and partially deleting them randomly to fill spaces… they were multiplied and nested and God only knows what… you get the point. Random weirdness explained.

So it turns out that the theme is even more awesome than I’d thought – and from now on, I’m only using my own “tag-scrubbed” Ipsum-Lorem.

pexeto

Thank you for sharing this as well :) WordPress is really sensitive about inserting tags and sometimes some tags may make things look messy, however – I’m glad you could figure it out :)

Pexeto,

Did you edit the style.css file too? I edited that file to get the look I have now. I want to keep this style.css because otherwise my design is set back to default.

Can I change every template file with the new ones except style.css in order to have a full working version 1.1?

pexeto

Hi,

Yes, I have changed the style.css file, but the changes are in the bottom of the file, just after the comments:

/*-------------- UPDATES-------------*/
/*-------------- VERSION 1.1 --------------*/

You can upload the other files, except the style.css file via FTP and then just append the updated styles in your current style.css file.

Thanks a lot Pexeto! I did the update, all works fine again. Good job with this theme, around 100 downloads in a week with still 2 days remaining..could be the best selling item of the week.

My site nears it’s complete status, thanks for giving me that ability.

Hi Pexeto,

Jee, I was so going to purchase this theme, when I found that there are no videos included. As I will need to add Vimeo, Youtube and other types of movies, I am wondering if there is a plugin that is safe and easy to use with your theme? This is rather important.

Also, I will be using the theme together with WP e-commerce. With some other themes I tested it with, there were many major jquery issues. Sliders stopped working and many other java functionalities were messed up. It turned out that each time there were bugs in the java scripts of the theme.

Can you tell me if your theme won’t have these issues? I guess you’ll have to install and activate WP e-commerce to tell me, because I can’t :)

Thanks in advance! Tom

P.S. Still hoping you will include Cufon fonts :)

pexeto

Hi,

First of all I would like to say that I have followed the main requirements for plugin support and I think most of the plugins should work fine with the theme.

Regarding videos – usually videos are embedded by using a plugin- I have tested the theme with a random video plugin and everything was fine with it, so you can choose your favorite one.

Regarding the eCommerce plugin – I have just installed it and everything was working fine with it :)

Pexeto,

The Portfolio Post Loader widget is working fine, but when I click on an image, I’m directed to the portfolio post page, where I see the title and the description but no photo. I have inserted a featured image, but there is nothing shown.

What am I doing wrong?

pexeto

You can insert the image using the [frame_left][/frame_left] shortcode :)

Default-user

Whoops, this doesn’t work..did everything you said but all there is, is this: http://caspergraaf.nl/wordpress/Portfolio/dag-1-project-50/

I put this in the field: [frame_left]http://caspergraaf.nl/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/1.jpg[/frame_left]

pexeto

It should be inserted like this:

[frame_left]<img src="http://caspergraaf.nl/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/1.jpg" />[/frame_left]

If you use the WordPress image inserting functionality (Insert into post button), it would generate the img tag automatically. If you prefer to paste the code I have provided above, it will be better if you do it in the HTML content tab.

Hello Pexeto,

Was wondering if I could implement a custom font into the template. I was going to use typekit and use the font Museoslab?

Thanks.. i really hope I can, I love your work.

Best, Paul

pexeto

Hi,

Thanks for the interest :)

As I can see from the Typekit documentation, you will only have to insert the embed code (the javascript code) that they provide into the header.php file. And after that you will be able to add the additional styles in the Additional Styles section of the admin panel. I haven’t tested it, but it looks easy to set.

I can’t change an image inserted to a slider can I? I see a wrong description of an image in my Nivo Slider but it seems I need to place it again.

And will there be a future possibility to use multiple sliders instead of one Nivo, Accordeon and Thumbnail Slider? I would love that.

Thanks, have a nice day Casper

pexeto

You can remove and add a new image to the slider just for few seconds :)

About the feature you need – I will need to think about it.

Hello, my friend just purchased your theme and I am helping him update it! Can you tell me how to change the double arrows on sub links like this >> and on the read more >> ? Thank You!

pexeto

Hi,

For the menu items you have to open the script/script.js file and on line 62 you can change the arrows (the &raquo; code):

<span class="drop-arrow">&raquo;</span>

For the Read more link you have to open the includes/post-template.php file and change this on line 38:

<span class="more-arrow">&raquo;</span>

I’m really interested in this theme. It’s gorgeous. Is there a way to incorporate a 2nd menu, above the main menu? Maybe in the grey band which displays on all pages but the first and where in your demo you have written content. It looks like a title or subtitle area now. I want to go with this one, but need that option and also on the home page, of course. Also, is there a way in the style sheet to move the main menu to the left and stretch across the header? Here is the Home page configuration I need:

.Logo (full)

.Secondary Menu (aligned left or right)—Home / About / News / Contact with drop downs

.Main Menu (aligned left or right)—4 topic headings with drop downs

.Slider

For the sub pages: .Similar order without the slider.

Thanks

pexeto

Hi,

Thank you for the interest :)

The theme currently supports one main menu and adding a secondary one will involve some code changes- mostly you will need some CSS knowledge to accomplish this. Another menu can be easily included into the gray band, but after that you will have to add some styles for the menu items so that they will be aligned to the left and displayed on one line.

About the main menu moving to the left- if I could understand correctly- you need the logo to be in the middle- full width and the menu to be located below it- if so, you can have a look at the first page of the comments section here- there was another user that needed this – jlipking and we had several conversations about setting this.

Thanks a million! I will purchase and then go from there. I appreciate your support.

Thanks a million. I will go ahead with the purchase and then go from there with your suggestions.

I have one more question at the moment. What did you use for the gallery display in your demo’s footer? Is it your portfolio widget or another plugin?

thanks again.

pexeto

You are welcome :)

Yes, this is my Portfolio Loader widget in the footer- it is included with the theme.

Hello again! I was also wondering if you could help, I would like to put a * symbol in front of the current page on the nav (ie if you are on home it would look like this *Home) Maybe in a different color? ANy idea of how I could accomplish this??

Thank you so much!

pexeto

Hi,

You can try to add the following line into the script/script.js file somewhere around line 65:

jQuery("#menu").find("li.current_page_item a").prepend("*");

Hi, I love love love the theme. I am having a serious issue with the static image though. I had an image set, but when I went to change it, it wouldn’t change. Even when I changed the name of the linked image, the image stayed. I finally deleted the linked image, and tried to upload the new image, but no luck. I’ve tried the accordion slider and the thumbnail slider and nothing changes. What can I do to fix this. I am not a live site, but am MAMP -ing it.

pexeto

Hi,

Thanks, I’m glad you like it :)

It is very likely that this won’t happen when you activate the theme into another WordPress installation. I think it might be related with your installation itself- I can’t say much about it unless I have access to your installation and if you are still experiencing those problems when you move the theme to the web, please send me some login details. Meanwhile, you can check whether this is not caused by any third party code (such as plugins) by temporarily disabling them.

Hey – just noticed that the psd files have acontent area of 960 px, while the demo’s area is 980.

Not a huge deal, but I was basing some of my elements off your psd.

I think this theme is really nice..

pexeto

Hi,

I’m glad you like it :)

I know about this, at a later stage of the development I have decided to include some more space in there, but as a whole the main elements that might need to be changed in the PSD remained with the same size, all I have added is just a few pixels of white space :)

Hi Pexeto, the theme is working really well, luving it so far. One other que for you:

Is it possible to control the “order” of the categories within a portfolio page?

For example on my page, how could I move “Figures” ahead of “abstract” for example? http://naturalexpression.net/art/?page_id=1317

Thanks again!

pexeto

Hi,

By default WordPress doesn’t provide an option for setting category order (like pages for example have this functionality) and some code changes will be needed in order to accomplish this. If you want, I can give you some basic instructions about how to do it.

Hello is it possible to have both the blog posts and services on the homepage without any coding on my part? Thanks. And is it easy to change the footer widgets through the admin panel or does that require coding?

pexeto

Hi,

You can’t have both blog posts and services without any code changes – they are two different templates, but this wouldn’t be hard to accomplish- you would just have to copy the content code of the boxes into the blog page.

Regarding the footer- it is widgetized, this means that you can drag and drop whatever widgets you like in there without any code changes.

Just a suggestion on the tabs shortcode’s title attribute. With the accordion you have done it the proper way:

[accordion]
[apane title="First Pane"]Pane One Content[/apane]
[/accordion]

but on the tabs the titles are part of the tab shortcode, which shouldn’t really be

[tabs titles="Title One, Tab Two, Tab Three"]
[pane]Tab One Content[/pane]
[/tabs]

I know it’s difficult to fix, because all users have implemented it the current way, but just wanted to point it out.

Helmar

pexeto

Hi,

Thanks for pointing this out, but I have a reason for doing it this way- the tabs HTML structure requires the titles to be inserted separately in a titles container div and after the titles have been inserted, there is another separate div that contains the main content of the tabs. I know the other way would be a bit easier to use, but if I was using it, I would have needed to include some additional JavaScript to insert the titles separately before the content, which I am trying to avoid.
