Hi!

First of all – I just purchased this and it is the best Wordpress theme out there – hands down!

I have a simple question. I want to use a background image that will be centered on the page. Could you tell me how to do that or what code to put where?

Awesem job! I look forward to more themes!

Mike Z

awesem

Thanks for your kind comments :)

To start changing the background you should be altering 2 divs. The #container div controls the entire background while #content controls the background of the content itself.

So, for example, to change the entire background image you might add the following to your css file:

#container { background: [your bg image here]; }
#content { background: #fff; }

Thanks :)

Thanks! Having a little emergency I hope you can help with right away. I just installed the theme and the tabbed section for “popular, recent, comments and tabs” are in one window rather than tabs. Can you help??

Default-user

And my “Featured Posts” aren’t showing up on the homepage, help!

Default-user

here’s my website: www.gsalternative.com

Default-user

Ok, I figured everything out except one thing: My “Featured” posts aren’t showing up on the homepage. I tagged a bunch of posts with “featured” but still nothing.

awesem

I see that they are showing now so all must be worked out.

Default-user

Fortunately I figured everything out! Sorry for all the comments, lol.

I do have a few design element questions that I was hoping you would be able to answer.

1. I want to change both navigation sections background color. Right now they are a very light gray and I wanted to make it green or a darker gray.

2. The homepage main image section (the most recent post) as of now has a black background. I would like to change it.

3. Right below the main navigation is a solid black bar that runs the length of the navigation. I would like to change that color also.

If you could let me know where to locate these lines of code, I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks again, this template is just awesome!

Default-user

One more design mod I’d like to do:

The navigation roll-over color

Thanks!

awesem

Hi, the changes you wish to make fall under customisations rather than theme support and would require changes to the css and the creation/alteration of images.

Perhaps you could find a developer willing to make these customisations for you in the forum?

Default-user

I know this a little out of the scope of your support but I would greatly appreciate your help. I don’t think informing me of the location of a few lines of code would take you that long would it?

awesem

Sure…

All styles are located in the theme’s styles.css file.

1. The top navigation background is controlled by #top-bar, the bottom widget area by #footer

2. This area is controlled with #latest-post

3. This is actually a background image and so you would need to alter the PSD file and upload your new image. The div in question is #primary-nav

Hope that helps you out :)

Hi Orman, Thank you for your support, the new widget feature is great, the only thing is the “sidebar page” widget section show on single posts instead of actual pages, is that the way is suppose to be? if yes, how to make the “main sidebar” for all blog & blog post related and the “page sidebar” for pages only.

Thank you,

awesem

Hi, the way you describe it is correct, it is the post pages that have an independent widget area, not pages.

To use “Main Sidebar” for all blog posts and “Page Sidebar” for all pages you will need to change:

single.php, line 170, find:

<?php include( TEMPLATEPATH . '/sidebar-page.php' ); ?>

and replace with:

<?php get_sidebar(); ?>

page.php, line 36, find:

<?php get_sidebar(); ?>

and replace with:

<?php include( TEMPLATEPATH . '/sidebar-page.php' ); ?>

That should be it :)

Still lovin it lovin it – !! ;o)

Am I to assume that category blocks 3 and 4 home page don’t come with featured images…..been trying – then looked at your site and you don’t have images on News or Sport being at 3 and 4.

Please advise.

Not a problem if so – just sizing up page so maybe add a few extra posts to 1 and 2 if so.

Rockin…...!! xx

awesem

That’s right, 3 & 4 are meant as almost snippets of news rather than full blown eye-catchers.

Glad you’re lovin it!

Is there any way of having the feature story on the homepage turn into a slideshow that shows multiple feature stories? If this is not currently available, could I pay to have it developed?

awesem

The theme does not currently support that functionality – it merely is a focus of the latest entry. I am not taking on any customisation work at the moment due to client commitments however this wouldn’t be a large customisation project for another developer. I would suggest contacting somebody in the forums.

Thanks :)

Another question I had is about the 125×125 ads. Currently only two are displayed in the demo. Can more be displayed, such as 2 rows of 3?

awesem

Absolutely, the widget has allocations for up-to 6 ads, 2 rows of 3 how you have described :)

Hi, great theme. This exactly what I been looking for.

I have an issue : With the custom tabs, the JavaScript is not working, it just stays as one column. So if I click on recent, in will just scroll down. instead going to the tab.

Also, I am trying to fix it myself maybe by time you get to it i probably find a situation but the secondary navigation, as I scroll down the submenu, by default all text are matching the background color and not showing until I scroll down. So its all the black color. and on rollover then you see category.

Still wonderful theme.

btw: url- www.urbangogreen.com/blog

awesem

Hi, thanks for the purchase :)

It seems that this is a javascript conflict more than likely caused by a plugin. Please deactivate all plugins and see if this solves the problem. If so, re-activate them one-by-one to locate the culprit.

The second issue regarding the dropdowns may also be casued by the conflict or another stylesheet that has been loaded by a plugin. Will know more once you deactivate the plugins.

Thanks :)

hi awesem!

just wanted to ask you – in the line above every post, where there’s the date and number of comments, is there any way i can have the name of the author instead the comments info? can you tell me how to do that if possible?

also, i wanted to change the dark grey line underneath the categories menu into black color, can you tell me where to do that in css?

thank you so much in advance!

MV

awesem

Mike,

The name of the author is already present above the posts. If you wish to remove the comment data however open single.php, line 24, remove the following:

                                <span class="meta-sep">ยท</span>
                                <span class="comment-count"><?php comments_popup_link(__('No comments', 'framework'), __('1 Comment', 'framework'), __('% Comments', 'framework')); ?></span>

The grey/black line under the main navigation is a background image. You will need to modify the PSD and overwrite the used image. This falls under customisation rather than theme support.

i’m sorry, if you can also tell me how to make the widget titles and category title’s fonts bigger?

thank you!

awesem

These are CSS changes which is more customisation rather than support. However the class you may wish to look at changing is:

.widget-title

This controls the majority of the theme’s section headings.

Hope that helps :)

Hello,

Just purchased it and figuring it all out. Pretty good theme.

With respect to the featured images…

I noticed that the image gets inserted in the beginning of the post.

I only want to specify “featured image” so that you can use as a thumbnail. I am in fact using an image that is already in the post, just not always at the beginning of the post. It makes it look really silly.

Is there a way to tag it so it won’t include the image in the post itself?

awesem

Hi, Thanks for the purchase!

The theme auto-inserts the featured image and so to remove it you will need to edit the code.

Single.php, line 33, you will see:

                            <?php if (  (function_exists('has_post_thumbnail')) && (has_post_thumbnail())  ) { /* if post has post thumbnail */ ?>
                            <div class="post-thumb">
                                <?php the_post_thumbnail('lead-image'); /* post thumbnail settings configured in functions.php */ ?>
                            </div>
                            <?php } ?>

Simply remove this entire block.

sorry that i have all these questions, can you please tell me how to make my own order in secondary menu (category navigation)? i did check the menu_order option in options, but only the page menu seems to sort the way i organized it, the category one still remained organized alphabetically which i don’t want.

can you tell me how to fix this so i can arrange my own order?

thank you again!!

MV

awesem

Secondary navigation is actually the navigation at the very top of the theme. The primary navigation is the main navigation that sits under the logo. If you are not using WP3 .0 custom menus then the secondary navigation uses a page list and the primary a category list.

Please make sure you are configuring the correct menus as from your description it seems you may have these confused.

The best way to configure your menus is to use the WP3 .0 custom menu feature.

i figured out the menu thing just before you replayed, thank you so much for quickness!!

1. for the author instead of comments, i know there’s an author shown above the post once you click specific post, but i meant how do i change it on a homepage? on the home page there’s an excerpt of all the posts with a date and comments. how do i remove the comments part but add the author, there i meant…? this is very important for my site since i have a lots of writers, so if you can please help with that! i know css pretty good, so you can just tell me where to change it!

2. also, i just figured out that your theme doesn’t show the blog’s tagline in the window bar, why is that? is there any way i can fix that? that is also extremely important for me, as it’s the most valuable site explanation people will see. i would really appreciate if you can help to tell me how this can be fixed so it shows :))))

3. i saw someone mentioned if there’s a possibility for the social links to be removed so the single post can be wider, and you said you will look into that in future. wanted to ask you if there’s a way we can edit that ourselves? if yes, where can i fix that in css?

thank you so so so so so MUCH ! sorry for all the questions, i would really appreciate if you can help :)))

1. This is a little out of the scope of theme support due to the number of files that would have to be customised. If you open index.php you will see includes to other theme files. In each of these included theme files you will need to change the comment data to author data.

2. I do not understand the question I’m afraid. What is a window bar.

3. Again, this is out of the scope of support due to the amount of code involved. In single.php, line 66, you will see <div id="single-column-right" /> – essentially you will need to remove this whole section and widen the post content.

For all of your changes I would perhaps suggest you enlist the help of a developer than can help you. Most of these changes are customisations rather than theme support e.g. bugs and fixes.

Thanks :)

for the widget headings, i went into editor to fix that but i don’t see .widget-title, as you told me

there’s only -

widget-ad120×240.php widget-ad125.php widget-ad300×250.php widget-flickr.php widget-tabbed.php widget-tweets.php widget-video.php

where should i look?

thanks :))

.widget-title is not a file, it is a CSS class. It can be found in styles.css

thank you.

2. let me explain, on every wordpress blog, as you know, there’s a blog name, and then there’s a tagline which can be seen right nest to it. for example, it’s going to look like this -

Lanney Gossip | Cellebrity News, Pictures and Videos

every theme shows that when you click on the home page of each blog, for people who have mac, it shows in the top of the window you opened to see the blog. on every theme i tried in life you can see the tagline of the blog to the right of the title. on this theme, it’s just not there. even though i entered the tagline of my blog in the settings, it doesn’t show. i don’t know how else to explain it, sorry :) would you understand what i mean now and tell me how to fix that, so i can see the tagline which is a very important explanation to my blog…? thanks.

3. i found the way to remove the social profiles, i did that, but how do i widen the post content? is there a number i have to add, or a specific word that would make it wider?

thanks for the widget explanation, i’ll get right on it!!

:)

awesem

2. You are referring to the page title. If you want/need more control of your titles I would suggest the use of a plugin such as the All in one SEO plugin. This will allow you to set your page titles (and more) for each page/post.

3. If you have already removed #single-column-right then change the with of #single-column-left to 620px via CSS .

  • Bought between 10 and 49 items
  • Has been a member for 4-5 years

so let me just get this straight, instead of #single-column-left i should put #620px?

do i do that in single.php, or stylesheet.css ?

tx! :)

awesem

No this would be a CSS change and so you need to find #single-column-left in styles.css and change the width accordingly.

Line 437

#single-column-left { float: left; width: 460px; background: url(images/bg-widget-title.gif) left top repeat-x; }
  • Bought between 10 and 49 items
  • Has been a member for 4-5 years

figured it out! worked like a charm!!! thank you so much for all your help, you really are great!!

so now that my post is wider (thank to awesem :)), is there any way the size of the post pic can be changed to fit new size of the post? because i see that the size of the featured image is fixed. also, is it the only way to have the pic appear on the thumbnail of the post to upload it as featured image? that really narrows down the option a blogger can do with a pic, for example we can never have a vertical pic in the post. is there any way the pic can be just inserted in the post the way we want and still have it appear in the thumbnails of the post, and a news in pic thingy you have going on on home page…?

BIG THANKS for all your help!

i see that you answered this to one of the people on this forum, about the post thumbnails, which is exactly what i wanna do -

“2. Right now the theme only supports a single post thumbnail. In order to have a different image inside the post you would need to remove the auto-insertion of the post thumbnail in single.php and simply insert a new image into your post body copy.”

...but i can’t find the auto-insertion of the post thumbnail in single.php. can you explain to us exactly what to remove and where…?

awesem, i fixed everything that you told me except to exchange the comment count for author info in the home page of post excerpts. now, i did find where i have to change it, but what do i change it into, specifically? do i just write author instead of comments? or author info maybe? cuz that didn’t work like that to recognize different authors…

lets say here -

· <?php comments_popup_link(_(‘No comments’, ‘framework’), _(‘1 Comment’, ‘framework’), __(’% Comments’, ‘framework’)); ?> <!-END .entry-meta entry-header ->

what is the specific word i have to enter instead of “comment count” and “no comments”....?

i world really appreciate if you can just tell me this one last thing, more specifically!

thank you awesem!

Hi there, this really is customisation rather than bug fixes and support. For all requests similar to this I would suggest you enlist the help of a developer, read the official WordPress Codex or ask for coding help on the WordPress.org forums.

If you wish to replace comments with author data then you need to remove the comment function altogether (comments_popup_link….) and replace it with an author function.

<?php the_author_posts_link(); ?>

A good place to start would be asking on the WordPress forums as already mentioned and of course looking at the theme files you already have. You can copy the implementation of the post page author link and paste it into the relevant files.

Thanks
