Thanks! May offer some links to sites that already use the theme (showcase)?

Hi Nicolak,

thanks for your query and interest in our Deadline theme. Below please find a couple of Deadline links – some are Deadline responsive and some use the non-responsive version:

http://londonist.com/ , http://www.techenet.com/ ,http://angranews.com.br/

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Thanks

Hello,

Is there a way to turn off the responsive theme without having to upload and use the non-responsive theme?

awesem

Hi MiraEmmerling,

thank you for your query. Turning off the responsiveness of the Deadline Responsive theme requires a couple of code tweaks. Is there a particular reason why you are trying to turn this off?

Thanks

Hi,

I finally got the “featured” posts working…

However, two things left:

1) I can’t seem to get to homepage slider working. It stays empty. What should I do to get a homepage slider with news items just like in your demo? 2) I marked some posts with the tag “pictures”, also the slug. But they won’t show up in the “news in pictures”.

My site: http://www.korvelkiosk.nl/

Thank you!

awesem

Hi MiCje,

thanks for your query. Great that you finally got the featured posts working.

In regards to the news in pictures and the slider, you need to use the following tags for the responsive version of Deadline

We’ve added this to our documentation but we should make it clearer :)

http://www.awesemthemes.com/theme-documentation/deadline-responsive

Latest & Featured posts slider: This widget displays your latest and featured posts (posts tagged featuredpost).

News in pictures: This widget displays your news in pictures (posts tagged newsinpictures).

Tagging the posts with the tags above should resolve your problem.

Please let me know if you are still experiencing any problems with this.

Thanks

Olaf

Hey Oaf,

Thanx! That worked perfectly for me!

However… :)

1) When I upload images as “featured” image, the slide on the site is way to large.

For instance: I uploaded an image of no larger dan 300px width (235×350). The sliderblog displays the image way larger then 300px.

Result; the sliderblog is out of proportion: www.korvelkiosk.nl What could this be?

2) I see the small 125px banners do not line with each other in the sidebar.

awesem

Hi MiCje,

I hope you are well and great that you managed to resolve the other problem.

In regards to the featured image, you need to ensure that you set the featured image as described here and the image needs to be at least 730 pixels wide so that WordPress can generated all the required image sizes used throughout the theme and used by the different responsive versions of the site (desktop, tablet, smartphone).

In regards to the 125×125 banners being misaliged, you are right and I can notice a very subtle misalignment. It works fine on our demo site and I wonder if this is related to the large image in the slider. I suggest you try and resolve the problem with the slider first and please let me know if the 125×125 images are still misaligned after that.

Kind regards

Olaf

Everytime I update this theme for my client it blows out the theme options settings! this is getting frustrating. Since I didn’t purchase the theme my client did I don’t have access to your support website that is why I am commenting about a support bug here

awesem

Hi Andrew,

thanks for raising this. I am not entirely sure what this is happening as all options are stored in the “options” table and should remain intact after updating the theme. I assume you are keeping the same folder name and you are simply replacing the contents of that folder with the newer content after you’ve removed all the old files (and after you’ve taken a full backup of your database and files so that you can always roll back).

We update our demo sites whenever we release a new theme and we also have a couple of our own sites based on our themes and we’ve not come across the problem. Could you provide us with a few more details on how you upgrade the theme so that we can try and replicate this? Please feel free to submit this via our profile page: http://themeforest.net/user/awesem

Thanks

Hi Olaf, thanks for the response - I restored the setting from our staging server so we are all good now. I did have a look in the options table of the website and saw a reference to the theme’s setting. So I am not sure what happened, however it was during the 3.5 update and we did jump up a few versions on your theme. Sorry that I can’t be more definitive about the cause but as you say with the options stored in the DB is should’t have been an issue.

Again thanks for the reply Andrew

awesem

Hi Andrew,

thanks for getting back to me on this. If you do notice any problems again during future updates then please let us know so that we can try and get to the bottom of this. Hopefully it was just a one-off glitch.

Have a nice weekend.

Nice theme, can’t believe I just found it. I have three questions, if you don’t mind:

1. Would it be difficult to add the WP-Ticker Plugin to the top, just below the first nav area? 2. Is there a sign-in/register custom made for this theme? If not, what do you recommend? 3. Can typical taller ad banners be used (160×600) in the pre-made banner areas?

Thanks for your time and help!

awesem

Hi Benjamin,

thanks for your query and interest in our Deadline theme. I’m pleased to hear that you like it!

In regards to your questions, adding the WP Ticker plugin shouldn’t be too difficult. If it has a shortcode then you can simply add this to the widgetised homepage using a text widget. Alternatively, you could amend the homepage template within the child-theme included in the Deadline Responsive download.

In regards to custom made sign-in, do you mean the wp-register.php sign up form? We haven’t got a custom form for this so the default will be used. For more bespoke forms you can have a look at Gravity Forms which also has an user registration extension: http://awe.sm/h9HHE

In regards to the Skyscraper banner, you can add this to the sidebar using a simple text widget. Please note that the sidebar is 300 pixels wide which means that there will be some whitespace.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Kind regards

Olaf

Hi there,

I purchased this theme recently and I have been very very happy with it until today – I got my first advertiser on the site, taking the leaderboard spot – and he has just sent me a furious email demanding a refund as the banner advert does not show up on the iPad / iPhone etc!

As this website is in relation to IOS apps, it is essential that the actual advertising works on these devices!

Please tell me there is an option I have not clicked yet that makes the leader board (and any other adverts) work on IOS.

I would appreciate it if you could get back to me ASAP, thanks.

www.apocketcamera.com

awesem

Hi grahamsmith,

thanks for your query regarding your leaderboard ads.

Deadline Responsive automatically adjusts to the screen resolution and in order to do this certain elements get dropped due to the reduced screen resolution on smart phones and tablets (it’s not specific to iOS). A Leaderboard is 728px wide and the iPhone for example has a width of 320 pixels or 640 pixels (4+).

You can emulate what it looks like on different devices by resizing your browser window and you will notice how the content automatically adjusts.

It could be possible to display the leaderboard on tablets and we can help you achieve this via our customisation service over at www.wpcustomize.it

Kind regards

Olaf

awesem

If you wanted to display an ad at the top on smart phones then you could consider creating an alternative banner with different dimensions and display this on smartphones only.

Again, please feel free to request a quote for this via our customisation service over at www.wpcustomize.it or www.awesem.com/tweaky

Please let me know how you get on with this.

Thanks

Hi Olaf,

Thank you for the reply. I do understand that it is the size of the screen that stops it being displayed but I do not understand why the theme cannot automatically resize it to fit the screen as happens with items such as the slider?

Before I purchased this theme I read this on your website – “Responsive Design No need for a separate mobile version of your site. Keep visitors happy with a theme that automatically adjusts to their device whether they are using a desktop, tablet or smartphone.”

This is the main reason I bought this theme as the above makes it sound like a mobile version will include and “automatically adjust” everything, which I now find it doesn’t. I would imagine advertising banners not working on an iPad would be a major thing for a lot of people??

Can you let me know if the other advertising widgets will work on IOS?

I cannot afford to pay for any extra customisation. I am still confused why the banner cannot automatically resize?

Thanks for your response.

awesem

Hi Graham,

thanks for your query. It’s correct that the theme automatically adjusts but certain elements get dropped in order to make it all fit to smaller screens and we’ve not considered keeping the leaderboard.

In regards to the other ad widgets, these will show up on smart phones and tablets but please note that the sidebar appears underneath the content. You can emulate this by resizing your browser window.

We will have a look at resizing the leaderboard image and I am hoping to get back to you on this early next week at the latest.

Kind regards

Olaf

awesem

Hi Graham,

I hope you are well. We’ve had a look at your query regarding the leaderboard on smart phones and tablets.

You could consider adding the following CSS to style.css in your Deadline Responsive child-theme:

@media only screen and (min-width: 768px) and (max-width: 959px) {
    #leaderboard { display: block; width: 488px; height: auto; }
    #leaderboard img { width: 100%; height: auto; }
}

@media screen and (max-width: 767px) {
    #leaderboard { display: block; width: 100%; margin: 0 0 20px 0; height: auto; }
    #leaderboard img { width: 100%; height: auto; }
}

Please note that this will only work for ads that are images and it won’t work for Javascript or iFrame ads.

Please let us know if you experience any problems with this.

Kind regards

Olaf

Hello Olaf,

Thank you for your replies – I have just put in the code and it works perfectly!

Again i would think that leaderboard being available on iPads is very important but I appreciate that unlike other developers you have actually taken the time to respond and fix this problem. (hopefully this code will be included in the next update?)

Thanks for that, I will be buying another theme from you soon.

Has the theme been tested on WP 3.5. I still don’t see that it’s compatible with the new version. Can you let me know if it’s safe to update or should I wait until it’s made official. Thanks.

Hi Omakad,

thanks for your query regarding WP 3.5. We’ve tested and updated our demo sites to WP 3.5 before Christmas and we didn’t experience any problems and we also had no reports of any problems from our customers.

Before you update you should still take a backup of your entire site and database just in case of any problems so that you can always roll back.

Please let me know if you experience any problems with this.

I am using responsive theme. How can I make caption of slider clickable?

My site – http://chromaticbox.com/

awesem

Hi ParagM,

thanks for your query. By default, only the title, image and Read More link are clickable. If you would like to make the whole excerpt clickable then you can consider tweaking the underlying slider widget and adding a link around it. I also suggest you do this in the child theme that is included in the download file.

I’m having a problem getting menu items to show up in my main navigation. Is there a limit to the number of items you can have in the menu? I only have a few running across the top on my site, corubber.com, but there are a number of drop down menus. Whenever I try to add a new one, they disappear after I save my changes. Any ideas?

awesem

Hi delbarton92,

thanks for your query. There shouldn’t be a limit on the number of items as such.

Did you choose your primary and secondary navigation on the left under “Theme Locations” as shown here:

I am going to be upgrading to V2 soon. Do I need to repurchased the theme? Also, do you have a graphic or page of the available shortcodes for V2? Thank you!

awesem

Hi Histpres,

thanks for your query and great that you are considering to upgrade to v2. You don’t need to purchase another license and you can simply download the latest version in your download section. The Deadline download file contains the latest version of Deadline responsive and Deadline non-responsive.

In regards to the shortcodes available in Deadline v2, you can have a look at our online documentation here: http://www.awesemthemes.com/theme-documentation/deadline-responsive

Please let me know if you have any further queries on this.

Thanks

Olaf

P.S. Before upgrading, always make sure that you have a full backup of all your files and database so that you can always roll back in case of any problems!

Where can I see the Shortcodes in action, not just the codes? Thanks! PS: Will do backup. Can’t just upgrade because last web developer did not purchase the theme under my company, but did so under hers.

You can see the Deadline Responsive shortcodes on the full-width templates here:

http://www.awesem.com/deadline-responsive/full-width/

In regards to upgrading, your web developer should be able to provide you with the latest version of the theme. Alternatively, you could try and contact ThemeForest’s Support to ask for their advice.

Thanks for your reply, can you help me to identify the line of code that i need to remove in order to do that?

Sorry, my wrong. It’s actually the page template in /includes/standard.php for a standard post (image, gallery etc for other post formats). It should be line 23:

<p><?php _e('By', 'framework'); echo ' '; the_author_link(); echo ' ';  _e('in', 'framework'); echo ' '; the_category(', '); echo ' · '; $date_format = get_option( 'date_format' ); the_time($date_format); echo ' · '; comments_popup_link(__('No comments', 'framework'), __('1 comment', 'framework'), __('% comments', 'framework')); ?></p>

Hi Freedhon,

I hope you are well and thanks for your query regarding your tags. I wouldn’t go as far as saying that removing these will ruin your SEO but tags do have a role to play in SEO and they allow you to cross-link related articles using SEO-relevant anchor text for your links. I suggest you have a look at these articles to decide whether you want to keep or remove these:

Is there a way i could just Hide the tags and the author in the front end?

awesem

Hi Freedhon,

thanks for your query. You can hide the entry-meta values by adding the following CSS to your style.css file in your child theme:

.entry-meta { display: none; }

The entry meta data includes the author name, tags, categories, date and number of comments. If you only need to hide certain values then you will have to amend the template slightly in your child theme so that you can select the respective values.

Please let us know how you get on with this.

Can I get the slider to focus on the center of the featured image as opposed to the left side?

All the posts I tag “sliderblog” show up properly but it always focuses on the far left of the picture instead of the center which is where I’d like it to focus.

awesem

Hi EclecticPB, thanks for your query. The image on the slider is not actually cropped on the left side and it should be center-cropped. However, if you don’t auto-hide the caption then only the left side of the image gets shown.

It is possible to change this but this would require a couple of changes to the code which you could do yourself if you know PHP or you could request a quote for this via http://www.awesem.com/tweaky or http://wpcustomize.it

Please let me know how you get on with this.

Is there a way to adjust the amount of text that’s shown in the slider (when the caption is not auto-hidden)? It doesn’t look like there’s anything in theme options; is there a way to edit it in the theme menu?

To change the excerpt length:

1) Open _widgets/slider-latest.php (or slider-blog.php) 2) Replace aw_excerpt(get_the_ID()) by aw_excerpt(get_the_ID(), LENGTH) (e.g. aw_excerpt(get_the_ID(), 50))
