I wanted to share with you all this message I received back after expressing my surprise that this theme isn’t supported in IE10. It’s an example of how NOT to handle a customer service situation. It could also be why this theme dropped from 5 stars to 4. A little background: after purchasing the way this theme handles permalinks causes issues with some plugins…but I’m told that “permalinks need to work that way. We are not planning to change it” even though this breaks any plugin which uses JQuery. Additionally though their demo works in IE10, on a clean install it didn’t work for me in IE10 with no plugins activated that could interfere…and Dream-Theme refuses to offer an explanation or even look at the problem.

Below is a direct quote:

“Our assistance covers theme features those had been stated as supported ones. I do understand you have all plugins deactivated, but IE10 compatibility is beyond our support. And we cannot spend the time on defining the cause of some particular problem, instead of helping other buyers, which have questions those really are within the support scope. Besides, ThemeForest authors are not obliged to provide any support at all.”

Sometimes theme ratings drops because of jerks that are not reading theme description and trying to blackmail theme authors.

Blackmailing author with bad ratings only because theme does not work as buyer imagined (without any reason for that) is a good motive to execute steps described above.

Anyone reading my previous statements can determine they don’t threaten you…nor have I even asked for money back (which by legal definition I would have to do for you classify this as blackmail). Expressing frustration over a challenge is anyone’s right in an open market where you sell to the public. But being as what you just wrote above threatening legal action for my opinion does you more harm than good…I don’t need to say anything further.

I was not talking about you. In your comment you are not claiming that theme rating dropped to 4 because of your, right?

I was just saying that we consider inadequate (and unfair) rating item low just because it does not have certain unadvertised features (e.g. IE10 support; we never claimed it is compatible).

Moreover I was not threatening anybody with legal actions – I just quoted part of our support policy page. IMO at this moment reporting this situation to Envato support is most adequate action for Author in this case.

Not at all…my comment about the theme rating had nothing to do with my rating, it was an example of how this situation was handled poorly and clearly more than 1 person agrees for your rating to drop since yesterday. Coincidentally the rating had nothing to do with the design…which I’ve complemented you on. It’s your response in service…which from the last two pages shows some challenges. Moreover, your response above was clearly directed at me and further is a threat. I’m not sure how privacy legislation is handled over there in the Ukraine, but I’m fairly certain you cannot expose private information due to U.S. privacy laws. As such, there is no need for you to contact Envato support as I’ve shared your comment above to Chaman Sidhu, Envato’s Legal Director for her review and Envato’s clarification on protection of buyer’s personal data and information. Your response now is obviously trying to backpeddle as you took this to another level. I would suggest dropping this thread and not commenting further.

You must understand that theme ought to function as advertised and no more than that. You saw that we were not claiming that it is compatible with IE10; you saw how URLs looks. Still you’ve bought it. I’m sorry, but that is not our problem. We do not owe you anything.

I’m not even mentioning how much time of our staff you’ve waisted…

As mentioned, I’m moving on and have asked for clarification from Envato as the legal transaction occurs through their marketplace and threatening legal action with transactions conducted on this domain does involve the company. I also wasn’t asking you for anything…other than acknowledgement that this could’ve been handled differently. Clearly we both have wasted time…so let’s move on. I, however have asked for reiteration that my shopping experience and private information is protected from Envato.

Agreed. I’d like to apologize for being rude. Though our conversation was not the most pleasant one, it contains some information that other potential buyers may find useful. Let’s recap facts in calm manner:

1. Theme was not tested in IE10. There was repot that demo works fine, but local installation of same buyer didn’t work.

2. With AJAX enabled, theme duplicates URLs like this: http://mysite.com/#!/http://mysite.com . This is required for making records to browser history (let back/forward work). It does not influence SEO results, but may cause plugins disfunctioning. Moreover since theme loads everything on AJAX (there’s option to disable it) there’s high possibility that theme will not be compatible with third-party plugins.

3. You are disappointed that our support staff didn’t help you with issues above.

All above is true. But none of it was advertised. So we are asking you (as well as other buyers) not to lower theme ratings just because theme is not doing what it was not supposed to do. Thanks.

Thank you for acknowledging…which is all I was looking for. You have to understand that after 36 hours building something after carefully selecting who to buy from…and trying to anticipate issues prior to purchase…is important and something I’ve learned in 3 years as a member here. To the point that I only purchase themes from Elite Authors of 5 stars…and I’ve purchased from you before and honestly can say from a design standpoint you have the best work on here.

My frustration came from testing your demo in IE10 prior to purchase (though I realize you don’t state compatibility) so I could assure this design is future ready. It worked perfect…no idea what my issue is…but that’s for me to figure out. I also didn’t know about the AJAX url change…as the Themeforest header hides the actual URL on the top of the demo page…otherwise I would’ve asked you first. You have to understand…as a designer I know sometimes you have to go in a new direction to achieve different results…but the way this is created deviates from how we’re used to Wordpress operating…which is fine, I just didn’t know. You’ve explained it now…so I get it. I figured out the solution and shared the fix here in case anyone else has the same issue…it’s as simple as switching off AJAX.

With support I only because frustrated while trying to figure out what to do. For any buyer when initially you’re told “that’s the way it is” it can be frustrating. If my first contact with you was explaining everything as clearly as you just did and offered me workarounds without trying to figure it out for myself (like turning off AJAX) I would’ve had a completely different reaction. It also was bad timing as you were trying to get your new support portal online…and I was desperate for a fix on a limited timeframe prior to the new site launching.

Thank you for owning up so we can calmly resolve this. In the future the only advice I can offer is: just set proper expectations with us if you have to do something different. Wordpress became a CMS because coders had a vision to bend the rules…and rewrite a simple blogging platform into the most widely used CMS in the world. I applaud you for breaking new ground…just let us know you did so, so we know what to expect. :)

Regarding, doubled URLs. Theme is powered by AJAX, so we need that behavior in order to make records to browser history. Without it your visitors will not be able to use back/forward buttons of their browser; share links to your site, etc.

Please note that it does not influence SEO results because Search engines are seeing normal links. But as, one of buyers reported, it may cause third-party plugins disfunctioning.

Alternatively you can get rid of this URLS by disabling AJAX in “misc” tab of theme options.

It’s such a pity the theme has minor issues with IE10 – I have experimented a problem with the thumbnails on the right of the homepage slider that, when the mouse cursor does NOT look like a cross, open like such when you click: http://prntscr.com/ul78i (I am not aware of other IE10 issues at the moment), or I would have purchased the theme right away. I’m using Chocolate at the moment and I’m really pleased with it – also, I must say I have always been more than pleased with the answers provided by your support center, I have only asked for a workaround on a bug and placed a couple of questions, but Anastasiya’s answers were always fast and to the point – so far, it’s the best support I have ever experienced from Elite Authors. If you guys could take a little time to make the theme work with IE10 too, please know that I would purchase immediately and be really happy :) This is an outstanding theme and I’m pretty sure many designers will take their cue from it in the near future ;)

The last time we tried to install IE10 on couple of our windows 7 machines about a month ago and… failed :) Which, says a lot about Microsoft attitude to older software owners.

We are going to take next attempt this tuesday.

Problems

1- Unable to setup video followed instructions and video not working at all.

Hi there, your theme looks fantastic! I really want to use it, however having tested it on my Samsung Galaxy SIII it doesn’t seem to work properly at all, your description says it’s adaptive but the navigation and text are tiny and when you bring the bottom homepage bar up it only shows text from the first column. Are you planning any fixes for these? I’d happily purchase it if they were fixed and it looked great on mobiles too, there are just too many people using mobiles for the internet nowadays to ignore this though. Thanks.

There IS javascript variable that detects device orientation. So It can be done relatively easily. What version of Android your device is running?
