Hi displayinline,

Funny, I got a new username ! :) I was formerly Jeandelalune.

I’m back with the accordion. Please look at this page with Firefox :

http://aedifex.fr/developr_doc/assets/test.php

The “Section 2” accordion works perfectly. Then press Ctrl+Shift+M (responsive mode) and set the page width to any value smaller than 768 pixels.

Click “Section 2” again and see what happen…

displayinline

Hi,

Sorry for the late reply! I have been checking your demo, but everything seems to work fine for me under Firefox, the tabs are responsive as expected…

Can you tell me more on the issue you have? Or maybe did you find the solution. If not, I am sure I can help ;)

Sorry, by “Section 2” I meant “Tab 2”.

Hi displayinline, Amazing product – very happy with purchase. I had a question about tabs. I am wondering if I can have the existing open tab stay “open” when it gets converted down into a mobile size. Currently, it just displays the “tabs” as rows with arrows so you can open them. Can I have one open by default?

Thanks!

displayinline

Hi, and thanks! :)

Sure, just add the class tab-opened to your tabs block, it will be open on the active tab by default.

<div class="standard-tabs tab-opened">
...
</div>

Tell me if you need more details! ;)

I love the site, one question. I tried to implement the tabs using ajax to call load the tabs, is this possible with your js and how?

Armando

displayinline

Hi, and thanks!

You can do this by listening to the showtabinit event which is triggered once per tab block:

$('#tab-block-id').on('showtabinit', function(event)
{
    var block = $(this);

    // Loading effect
    block.html('<div style="height: 200px; line-height: 200px; text-align: center;"><span class="loader big" /></div>');

    // Load content
    block.load('some-url.html');
});

Add one listener for each tab block, or set a HTML5 data-* attribute on each one and create a global listener which will use this attribute. Just make sure to add this code before the line $.template.init(); if you use it.

Hope this helps! ;)

Im having a problem with modal alert, Im using it as the example:

$.modal.alert({
    title: 'Modal window',
    content: 'This is an example of standard modal window.'
});

but Im getting a

Uncaught TypeError: Object #<Object> has no method ‘is’

displayinline

Hi,

The syntax of $.modal.alert() is slightly different, you should write:

$.modal.alert('This is an example of standard modal window.', {
    title: 'Modal window'
});

Tell me if you need more details! ;)

Hi displayinline,

Actually, the problem is not with the accordion, but with a tab less wide than 768 px and containing an accordion.

displayinline

Hi!

Ok, I understand the issue now :) Here’s a solution: add a listener to check the size of the accordion and refresh the tabs when it changes:

$('.tabs-content .accordion').on('heightchange', function()
{
    $(this).refreshTabs();
});

It seems to work fine on your test page, tell me if you still have issues! ;)

Default-user

Fantastic !! After two or three weeks wondering what was wrong with this tab+accordion, you gave me the answer !

I modified the test page, you can see that know it works.

Many thanks ! :)

Default-user

But I still wonder why this happen when the tab is less than 768px wide…

Default-user

This solution doesn’t work with dynamic content. Look once more at this page : http://aedifex.fr/developr_doc/assets/test.php

  • Set Firefox in responsive mode, less than 768px wide.
  • Click on tab 3. Dynamic content is added.

You can see that the tab height is not refreshed, unlike tab 2.

In order to make the full content appear you have to click Retour (Back) and then tab 3 again.

Default-user

I forgot an important step :

  • Set Firefox in responsive mode, less than 768px wide.
  • Reload the page.
  • Click on tab 3. Dynamic content is added.
displayinline

Hi,

This first solution won’t work on dynamic content as the script I gave you only handles existing content. If you want it to watch dynamically loaded content, use event delegation instead:

$(document).on('heightchange', '.tabs-content .accordion', function()
{
    $(this).refreshTabs();
});

If should work in every case now ;)

Default-user

Euh… no, I’m sorry but this doesn’t work and even prevent the tab2 from working anymore. You can give it a try, always at the same address.

I think that the reason for all this is from your tabs code. Otherwise everything would work perfectly regardless of the browser size.

displayinline

Mmh… Maybe the custom event does not work properly when delegated. Just use a callback to trigger the original code then:

$("#tab3").on("showtabinit", function()
{
    $(this).load("dyncontent.php", function()
    {
        $(this).find('.accordion').on('heightchange', function()
        {
            $(this).refreshTabs();

        }).trigger('heightchange');
    });
});

Hope this helps!

Default-user

Ok, thanks a lot for this solution. Actually, in order to make both tab 2 and tab 3 working, I have to write:

// For every tab except tab 3
$("#tabscontent dl.accordion").on("heightchange", function()
{
    $(this).refreshTabs();
});

// For tab 3 with dynamic content
$("#tab3").on("showtabinit", function()
{
    $(this).load("dyncontent.php", function()
    {
        $(this).find('.accordion').on('heightchange', function()
        {
            $(this).refreshTabs();
        }).trigger('heightchange');
    });
});

You know what ? That sounds like a French adage : “Un emplâtre sur une jambe de bois”. :)

More seriously, I cannot help but think that a deeper issue lies behind all this… Anyway, thank you for taking the time to help. :)

displayinline

Actually, this is not really an issue: the tabs plugin has to set the size of the tabs blocks in mobile mode (viewport width < 768px), to enable the resizing effect. It regularly checks the content size (every time the active tab changes), but if the content changes between two checks, it can’t detect it by itself – hence the dedicated listener.

About the duplicated code, you may simply define a method or a function, it will be easier to read:

// Activate the automatic size check
$.fn.watchTabContentSize = function()
{
    return this.on("heightchange", function()
    {
        $(this).refreshTabs();
    });
};

// For every filled tab
$("#tabscontent dl.accordion").watchTabContentSize();

// For tab 3 with dynamic content
$("#tab3").on("showtabinit", function()
{
    $(this).load("dyncontent.php", function()
    {
        $(this).find('.accordion')
                .watchTabContentSize()
                .trigger('heightchange');
    });
});

Cheers!

Default-user

Ok, I understand. This works just fine. :)

I like the watcher, this reminds me actionScript. By the way, in actionScript you can write something like : myPanel.visible = myCheckbox.checked. Is it possible to write something as simple as that in javaScript ?

Thanks for your help ! :)

displayinline

Well, you can’t write something as concise as that, but with jQuery it still fits on one line:

$('#myPanel')[ $('#myCheckbox').prop('checked') ? 'show' : 'hide' ]();

;)

Default-user

Very useful, thank you ! :)

Default-user

Something else would be very useful : a FAQ derived from these 54+ pages…

Default-user

Hi displayinline,

Me again with the same problem.

As you know, I have a tab wich contains an accordion which contains a hidden div that I can open or close (slide down/up) with one click on a button.

I set your watcher on the hidden div, so that when it slides down the tab’s height changes accordingly. But this has a perverse effect, because when the div slides up (closed) the tab’s height becomes too small !!

So my question is : is it possible to activate/deactivate the watcher when the div slides down/up ?

And a second question : why does everything work like a charme with a viewport wider than 767px, without the need of a watcher ?

It’s very important for me to get this problem solved, otherwise I won’t be able to publish my new web site (23 days remaining).

Thanks in advance ! :)

Default-user

Well, after several tests with the Firefox “barre de développement” (Shift+F2, I don’t know the English translation), it appears that the problem is with the standard-tabs class. If I remove it everything works (except the layout of course). No more need of a watcher. So in my opinion there is something wrong with this class for a viewport up to 767px wide => the concerned css file.

Edit : actually, it’s not an opinion, it’s a fact.

Default-user

I found something which might help a bit. At the top of the right hand Firefox “development bar” window, there is a element inline rule, which contains only the height of, in this case, the div having the standard-tabs class. This height, in pixels, is fixed.

But when the viewport is wider than 767px, this value is presented as strikeout text (texte barré en bon français). I guess that means this value is not relevant.

Default-user

If I focus on the content div only, the following code seems to work:

if ($.template.mediaQuery.isSmallerThan("tablet-portrait"))
{
    $.fn.watchTabContentSize = function()
    {
        return this.on("heightchange", function()
        {
            $(this).refreshTabs();
        });
    }

    $("#content").watchTabContentSize();
}

<div class="standard-tabs">
    <ul class="tabs">
        <li>...</li>
        <li>...</li>
        <li>...</li>
    </ul>
    <div id="content" class="tabs-content">
        <div id="tab1">...</div>
        <div id="tab2">...</div>
        <div id="tab3">...</div>
    </div>
</div>

As you can see, there is no reference to the accordion, but only to the content wrapper. This code works also with dynamic content.

Of course, I would prefer that all this work without the watcher…

Default-user

There is an alternative :

if ($.template.mediaQuery.isSmallerThan("tablet-portrait"))

or

$(document).on('enter-query-mobile', function()

Which one, in your opinion, is better ?

displayinline

Hi!

About the tabs becoming too small, you may simply set a min-height, this will prevent the block from becoming too small.

About you last question, the first option will run only once and thus not work if the user resizes its browser, while the second will handle the resizing – but you’ll need to make sure it runs only once or disable the watcher on ‘quit-query-mobile’.

According to my tests, you can leave the watcher running whatever the mode, it should work fine at all sizes, because it does nothing else than trigger the tabs refresh method.

Hope this helps a little, tell me if you still can’t have this to work as expected!

Default-user

Thanks for your answer. It may seem stupid but how do I disable the watcher ?

By the way, on mobile devices I guess that “enter-query-mobile” won’t work ! Am I wrong ?

Default-user

My last question was unclear. Let’s say that a visitor uses a smartphone, and I myself have chosen to use $(document).on(‘enter-query-mobile’, function(). The event will never fire and the guy will get into trouble. I should have chosen to use if ($.template.mediaQuery.isSmallerThan(“tablet-portrait”)).

But if he uses a desktop computer, with a large screen, and I myself have chosen to use if ($.template.mediaQuery.isSmallerThan(“tablet-portrait”)), then he will always have a functioning web site, assuming that if he resizes his browser window under 768px and see that the accordion doesn’t work anymore, he will give his viewport a larger size.

That’s why, in my opinion, if ($.template.mediaQuery.isSmallerThan(“tablet-portrait”)) is always better than $(document).on(‘enter-query-mobile’, function().

displayinline

Actually, ‘enter-query-mobile’ will be fired also on the smartphone: the current media query enter event is triggered on page load. You may try to check the example page responsive.html in the package, it shows all media query events fired at the bottom of the page.

Both solutions are equivalent, it’s up to you to choose the better one for your project ;)

Default-user

I read this page nearly twenty times. About enter-query-[name] you wrote : “This event fires when entering the corresponding mode”. What I understood is since you never resize the viewport of a smartphone (except perhaps when rotating it), this event will never be fired. Entering refers to some kind of movement, leaving one state for entering another state. This seems relevant on large screens only.

And as I said above, the best solution would be to get rid of this watcher… :)

Hello, I’m interested into Developr theme. reading comments i notice that should be released 1.5 version, is it true? there any release date? But very important thing.. use this new version jquery 1.9.x?

thanks in advance

displayinline

Hi!

Version 1.5 should be released in the incoming weeks. It will be fully compatible with v1.4, so you can start using the template now if you want to and update later just by overwriting the JS and CSS files. Of course, all buyers have lifetime access to updates for free ;)

About jQuery, I always update the external dependencies to their latest version, so you’ll get the latest build of the 1.9 branch for sure.

Tell me if you want more details!

Hi Displayinline,

I’m back with yet another question. I’m experiencing issues with the drop down from the template. I have placed a drop down on http://southernmotion.ccssites.com/testresponsiveie8 . As you can see, the drop down just does not select which choice I click on. I’m having this same issue with the drop down in the table header where you select 10 25 50 etc. Any advice would be extremely appreciated! :)

displayinline

Hi,

I see that you embed the full styled select code: in this case, the inputs plugin won’t handle it for you, it will just work as plain HTML/CSS.

If you want the styled select to work, let the inputs plugin create the styling for you – just write:

<select class="select">
    <option value="1">First value</option>
    <option value="3">Other value</option>
    <option value="4">Last value</option>
</select>

And it will work fine ;)

For more details, please refer to the documentation in Features reference / Forms / Selects.

Hey DisplayInline,

I’m not sure if i found a bug or not. I have the “menu-hidden” class applied to the body of my document. When viewing on ipad in landscape, I am able to scroll the screen left horizontally (the width of the hidden menu). I applied “overflow:hidden” to the body on the style.css and this fixed the problem. I’m assuming safari was picking up the width of the hidden menu and adding it on to the viewing size.

Do You see any issues with my solution?

Thanks man! Hope all is well!

Hi – this is a great product

Couple of questions:

How can I add a cancel button to the form wizard/ I’ve tried adding it next to the submit button but this is hidden on the first page of the form, where in the code can I look to add an extra button next to the ‘Next’ button. Also with datepicker I can’t format it for UK dates – appreciated not your code but any ideas how I can do that? Thanks

displayinline

Hi, and thanks!

About the wizard, you may set the option controlsWrapper with a custom markup including the cancel button. Simply add this code at the end of the file, but before the line $.template.init(); if you use it:

$('.wizard').data('wizard-options', {
    controlsWrapper: '<div class="field-block button-height wizard-controls clearfix"><button type="reset" class="button">Reset</button></div>'
});

Note that this won’t work for steps which already have a block with the class wizard-controls: just add the cancel button in the block then.

You may also easily add a button in the wizard header:

<h3 class="block-title">
    Wizard
    <button type="reset" class="button compact float-right">Reset</button>
</h3>

About the datepicker, you may try to upgrade to the latest version of the plugin, it includes much more options and features. Just note that the custom theme for the template doesn’t work with this version (yet), you’ll just need to use one of the 3 bundled themes instead.

Hope this helps! ;)

Hey.

I’m trying to add the autocomplete feature from Jquery UI, following this tutorial. http://www.jensbits.com/2010/03/29/jquery-ui-autocomplete-widget-with-php-and-mysql/

I can get it to work on a page where it is the only Jquery file. BUT when I use it with the other Jquery files needed for this template, it breaks. How can I get this to work with the template?

Here are the Jquery files I’m linking to on one page: <script src=”../../js/libs/jquery-1.7.2.min.js”></script> <link rel=”stylesheet” type=”text/css” href=”http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1/themes/redmond/jquery-ui.css”> <script src=”http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1/jquery.min.js”></script> <script src=”http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1/jquery-ui.min.js”></script> <script type=”text/javascript” src=”http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.3.0/jquery.min.js”></script>

Thanks. Keegan

displayinline

Hey!

The only two files you need are those:

<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1/themes/redmond/jquery-ui.css">
<script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1/jquery-ui.min.js"></script>

jQuery is already included in the template. Here’s how you should include the files: the CSS stylesheet goes in the head section, along other stylesheets, and the script goes to the bottom of the file, just after the template scripts. Just add your javascript code after the script tags, and everything should work fine ;)

Hi i’ve purchased this template and it’s by far the best i’ve seen. well done! I have a few questions though, sorry.

1. I have a list of staff members from a php foreach loop. inside the loop are some dynamic links eg: edit staff etc…i want to click on a link which passes through the id of the user and open the edit user page in a modal. I can’t seem to get this to work correctly.

2.do you know of any issues using jquery UI datepicker instead of the one your currently using.

3. last thing how do i upgrade the entypo font set.

Sorry for all the questions and thanks in advance. also are you available for custom jobs?

displayinline

Hi, and thanks! :)

Here are my answers:

1. Here’s a simple solution to do this: add a custom class – let’s say modal-link – and add this small script:

$(document).on('click', '.modal-link', function(event)
{
    // Stop link opening
    event.preventDefault();

    // Open in modal
    $.modal({
        title: this.title || $(this).text(),
        url: this.href
    });
});

2. I never tried this before, but there shouldn’t be any major issue. You may just need to adjust the calendar z-index in some cases, but that should be all. Tell me if you have issues doing this!

3. The latest Entypo update does not work correctly in all browsers and requires to remap most of the icons in the stylesheet style.css. That’s why I made a dedicated update for this some time ago, you can grab it here.

Hope this helps! ;)

Thanks for the speedy reply, the fonts fixed and modal works as you suggested. How can I pass a title to the modal from within my link? I currently have
<a href="{{ URL::base() }}/staff/users/edit_user/{{ $user->id }}" class="button icon-list-add with-tooltip icon-blue modal_link" title="Edit user: ID{{ $user->id }}"></a>
displayinline

The code I gave you already uses the link title attribute, and if not set, it will grab the anchor’s text ;)

Default-user
kedstudio Purchased

Hi thanks, i realised what you said about the anchor, however in cases where i have a compact set of icons and the icons have a tool-tip in this situation it doesn’t display the title. eg:

    <span class="button-group compact staff_admin_links">
    <a class="button icon-gear icon-size1 with-tooltip modal_link" href="{{ URL::base() }}/admin/staff/edit_staff/{{ $staff->id }}" title="Edit {{ $staff->f_name . ' '.$staff->l_name }}"></a>
</span>

The modal doesn’t pickup the title. however when i enter the below code it works.
title="Edit {{ $staff->f_name . ' '.$staff->l_name }}"> Edit {{ $staff->f_name . ' '.$staff->l_name }}
Also how can i control the position of the modal as in some cases it’s half way down the page and you can’t see part of the content, Thanks again for your help.
displayinline

Hi!

The title issue occurs because the tooltip plugin removes the title attribute while showing the tooltip, to prevent the default tooltip to show. I included a fix in the code below.

About the position issue, this happens because the modal is not automatically centered on ajax load. You may use a callback to center the modal when the content is loaded:

$(document).on('click', '.modal_link', function(event)
{
    var link = $(this),
        tooltipTitle = link.data('tooltip-title'),
        modal, title;

    // Stop link opening
    event.preventDefault();

    // Open in modal
    link = $(this);
    modal = $.modal({
        title: tooltipTitle ? tooltipTitle.value : (this.title || link.text()),
        content: '<div style="height: 200px; line-height: 200px; text-align: center;"><span class="loader big" /></div>',
        url: this.href,
        ajax: {
            complete: function()
            {
                modal.centerModal();
            }
        }
    });
});

Note that I also added a loading effect as initial content of the modal.

Hope this helps! ;)

I want to have a .modal that has a SELECT in it. I think I want to use either a .modal.prompt or .modal.confirm. Is that possible? Or should a just use a small .modal with only the SELECT in it? What do you think is the best way? Thanks.

displayinline

Hi!

Sure, you can use prompt or confirm, just pass the select markup or DOM object as the message parameter. You’ll just need to use the callback functions to retrieve the select value:

var select = $('#select');
$.modal.confirm(select, function() {
    var value = select.val();
    // Process on confirm
}, function() {
    // Process on cancel
}, {
    title: 'Modal window title'
});

i want to use big calendar as dynamic. I mean when i want to see more than 1 months same time, the month page should slide. how can i do that?

Thanks

Hi,

There are several ways to do this, the simplest would be to break the calendar in two parts: the caption, static, and a big div below with style="position: relative; overflow:hidden" which would contain several calendars, one for each month.

Then you’d have to use javascript to position the next and previous months out of the big div crop zone, using position:absolute, and make them move as the user scrolls through months. You may even plan to load the calendars using AJAX.

As I said, there are multiple ways to do this, if you don’t feel comfortable with this one just find a different one that fits best your project! ;)

Hi,

Well, I can’t help much for both questions, because it depends on what programming language you use, what you want to do, how you want to build it… But I am sure you can find a bunch of available scripts on Google with just a quick search ;)

Sorry I can’t help more!

Do you recommend a color picker for your theme? I tried to look [but there was no search functionality in the comments].

We need to find a simple inline color picker.

Thanks, Todd—LOVE your theme
