Common WordPress Installation Issues

Missing style sheet error when installing the theme

A common issue that can occur with users new to installing WordPress themes is a “Broken theme and/or stylesheets missing” error message being displayed when trying to upload or activate the theme. This error message does not mean that the theme you have purchased is broken, it simply means it has been uploaded incorrectly. Luckily, there is a very easy fix.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I find the documentation ?

The documentation is located inside the main package that you downloaded from themeforest. Unzip the file and you’ll end up with a folder called “documentation”. Inside it there’s a file called “index.html”, opening that up will bring a list of video, that will help you understand how the theme works and also how to set it up properly.

How can I create the portfolio navigation (filtering) ?

For the portfolio navigation system, you’ll need to have the following elements in order for it to work:

a. you need to create a page and choose a portfolio template for it (this will be the main portfolio page);
b. next create a category (this will be the main category) with some posts inside it (posts that have a featured image – the theme uses featured images);
c. go to Duotive Admin Panel -> Porftolios -> Add a new portfolio -> select the category by checking the appropriate check-box -> under the “Page to deploy”, select the page you just created;
- at this point you have a normal portfolio page;
d. next, you need to create a new page and select the portfolio template; in the right hand sidebar, select as parent the main page for your portfolio;
e. create a new category and assign as parent the main category you created earlier (this will be the sub-category).
f. now go to Duotive Admin Panel and repeat step c. for the new sub-page and sub-category;

And that’s how you set up sub-pages with navigation. It’s quite easy, you’ll just have to follow the steps.

How do I set the “Frontpage” template to be my homepage ?

This is covered in the 4th video on how to set up the “Frontpage”. Just look at the end of the video (2-3 minutes until it ends) and you’ll find what you need. You have to tell Wordpress to use that page as the default homepage.

How can I add custom fonts ?

We provided a quick font switching mechanism. You can select any of the fonts we added using the dropdown menu. If you fell that none of them are suits your style you can add new fonts by following these steps:

1. Go to www.fontsquirrel.com or any other website that provides @font-face kits;
2. In the right hand sidebar you have a section called Filter”, make sure you check the @font-face checkbox;
3. Browse through the fonts until you find one that suits you best;
4. On the font presentation page there is a button called ”@font-face Kit”, click on that;
5. Choose a subset (if your main language isn’t English);
6. Make sure you have all the 4 checkboxes selected (TTF, EOT, WOFF, SVG) and click on “Download @font-face Kit”;
7. Open the archive that you downloaded;
8. Inside there should be some files with these extensions: .fft, .eot, .woff, .svg;
9. Place those files to “themes/duotive-three/fonts/custom/” folder and you’re done!

After you have done the steps above, your new fonts will appear in the fonts dropdown menu. Please note that not all the fonts will go well with the theme’s design, in terms of line-height and sizes.

How can I translate this theme ?

Here’s what you need to do to translate the theme.

1. Inside the package that you downloaded from themeforest there is a “language” folder, with “en_EN.mo” and “en_EN.po” files, along with other languages.
2. Make a copy and rename them to “xx_XX.mo”, “xx_XX.po”, where “xx” is the abreviation of your language. Click here to find a list of country/language codes.
3. Using poEdit you can translate from English to your own language;
4. Copy the two translated files (“xx_XX.mo”, “xx_XX.po”) inside the theme’s root folder: ”/themes/duotive-three”.
5. Open up “wp-config.php” file from your wordpress root installation folder and
6. Search for this line:

define ('WPLANG', '');

and replace it with this one:

define ('WPLANG', 'xx_XX');

And that’s it! :)

How can I remove the frame around the images, that I insert into posts and pages ?

Go to Duotive Admin Panel > General Settings > Advanced > and in the CSS filed add this code:

.alignnone,
.aligncenter,
.alignleft,
.alignright {
   padding: 0px !important;
   background: none !important;
}
