I’m having a problem with the header image… When I check “Auto crop and sew on save” I get a series of errors when I save. They are as follows:
“Upload header image error. Raw http response code : 401”
“It looks like your web host is preventing this theme from using the wp_remote_get function. This is usually due to a firewall rule or overzealous security settings. We are trying a work around…”
“Image Error: Sorry, or work around failed. Please contact your web host with the error message above and see if they can help you revolve this hosting issue.”
And then a PHP error:
“Warning: file_get_contents(hostingpath/image.jpg) [function.file-get-contents]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /hostingpath/wp-content/themes/eatery/framework/admin/functions/create_header_image.php on line 233”
I’m hosting with a basic Godaddy plan, which is perhaps the most common hosting out there, I’m surprised no one else is having this problem. This is a fresh install of WordPress and the theme.
Can you provide a fix? Or at the very least, a workaround? How can I manually specify an image, and what should the dimensions be?
Hi brianjohnsondesig, that is very surprising. Thanks for letting us know. We want to fix this asap.
We’ve had others use this theme on GoDaddy without issue. Do you have an special plugins installed? can you deactivate them and try again? If that fails can you remotely host the images and pull them from there (Dropbox)? Sorry you have having issues, we’ve done a lot of testing on this and this error is very rare, usually a hosting config. Is your Godaddy a dedicated or private server? Feel free to private message us with your details and we’ll help you get it sorted out asap.
BTW the header image is 1680×340, if you want to try your approach.
Thank you for your quick response!
I don’t have any plugins installed, all I’ve done on this WordPress install is set up this theme, literally nothing else.
My hosting is just a standard shared hosting package with Godaddy, so unfortunately I don’t have access to many settings with it, though if an .htaccess file could solve this, I would love to know what to enter there.
And thank you for that resolution. Where would I place a custom header image file? I found the file “header_placeholder_sm.png” and I suppose I could just replace that, but that’s not ideal.
Hmm.. the 401 is telling us that the file doesn’t exist or that GoDaddy is blocking the script from accessing it.
You can try a few things, one is to save the images on another server or website and then pull it from the layout tab / upload header images / check the box combine your header images below, but in the form field specify an image hosted outside your godaddy account if possible, so a dropbox or perhaps another website you have access to. The full URL, http://www.anotherwebsite.com/images/my_header_header.jpg -> Then Save Changes. GoDaddy will pull that image from the remote location and save it locally.
or you could replace http://yourwebsite.com/wp-content/themes/eatery/images/header_placeholder.png with your new header file via FTP.
Not very elegant I know, but without access to your hosting account we can’t do a lot of debugging. We’ll get it sorted out.
I was able to make it work just hosting the image files elsewhere in my hosting account. I suspect that the problem may be the password I have on the folders…
Because for now this is just a test site, I have it in a password-protected folder via the .htaccess file, and from what I’ve seen, I think that may be causing the problem. I don’t really know what the solution would be other than removing the password.
Thanks for your help though, this will suffice until I can get the site live in its final location.
Ah. That makes sense then. The password protection would block the script from accessing it although the script will also try to grab it locally via absolute folder path but I guess that might be blocked as well. I’m sure it will all start working when the password protection is off. Sounds like you sorted it out though!
Hi my meta tag has not been showing. How can I add my meta tag?
Also I would like my background picture to be static whilst viewers can roll down the contents.
Can you elaborate on what you mean with regard to the meta tags? Cheers!
Thanks the fixed background has worked for me!
When I google search my website there is meant to be a 160character description of my website below the domain name. I can’t find the place to put this description in.
Thanks in advance.
Great. We didn’t include SEO settings in the theme because we feel that it’s better to manage it using a plugin- we recommend the free Yoast SEO plugin: http://bit.ly/YWsZoR which includes lots of features including the ability to edit the meta description. Cheers!
Thanks Eatery for responding.
Have had lots of praises for the navigation and layout of your theme! Good work!
You’re very welcome. Great to hear
Bought a lot, asked a lot on themeforrest. Must say, best theme support ever.
Thank you very much! We always strive to offer the best support we can
How do I make the Mobile Menu link bigger?
On a mobile device the activation link is small. Once you click it, the actual menu is much bigger.
I want the mobile menu activation link to be as big as the menu it activates.
Hi davidhowse, I’m not sure exactly what you’re looking for- the mobile menu is a dropdown, so are you saying you’d like the whole drop down menu to be fully visible when the site loads?
thank you for this great theme! Five stars
I have four questions:
1. You answered on older comments that it´s possible to change the slugs for “food” and “menu-groups”. What I have to do?
2. As well that there is an bug in the google-map because the zoom in/out symbols (+/-) are not shown and you have an hotfix for that issue?
3. Although I translated in the po-file the words for the search-results page (e.g. “search results for”, “nothing found”, “sorry, but nothing matched…”), there is still shown the english text. All other translations are working.
4. How it is possible to show the social widget in the mobile sidebar?
Thank you for your support!
Hi Palaoa, thanks! I responded to your email message with the code since it comes through more clear over email. Also included is the Maps fix which we will include in the next release as well. Cheers.
Thank you so much for your support!
I have a couple of pre-purchase questions please!
I have narrowed it down to 2 themes, this one being one of them however, it’s missing a few options that we definitely need. The other theme comes with it but since I absolutely Love this theme I was wondering if there is a plugin you can recommend to add these option – Free or Paid.
1) Our site must have a “Calendar” – I looked at “The Events Calendar” which is exactly what we need, however I believe it’s not responsive, so it doesn’t work on mobile devises, which 98% of our customers use.
2) Can I install “Visual Composer” plugin? which will solve the second problem of needing a Specials/Promo page.
3) Can the fields in the “Reservations” page be edited to be used for a different format i.e. to Pre-Order items?
Hi lbpepe12, that’s great to hear!
1) We recommend Calendarize it as a great responsive WP events calendar (http://bit.ly/19wNY3q)
2) We haven’t personally used that plugin but I don’t see why it would cause any issues.
3) The Reservation and Contact forms are provided as-is, but we recommend Gravity Forms for anyone who wants to build custom forms as it’s an excellent solution (http://bit.ly/1diiFw6)
Thank you for your rely & suggestions. I will be buying this theme shortly!
Hi, is it possible to make the logo image bigger? I see it is set to crop to 260px, is this easy to change?
Hi coolgeee, yes it’s pretty simple and we can provide the CSS to make that happen. If you’ve already purchased the theme, just login with the account you purchased with and leave a comment or send us a message and we’ll send it over. Cheers!
I am looking how to direct a page to a PDF, a downloadable version of the menu I am placing on the website.
Also I am looking for the contact us short code if there is one? Or do I need to code the entire contact us page?
Hi Duprenicholas92, you could upload the PDF to your Media Library and then just add a text link or image link from any page or post to the URL of the PDF. If you’d like to link directly from your navigation menu then you could add a custom link as outlined here: http://bit.ly/1er4rxV.
The Contact page in Eatery is a WP page template, so you just select it on the Edit Page screen on the right column and you’re good to go. Cheers!
First of all congratulation for your theme, it is nice and simple and very useful.
I have found a problem using the Google Map shortcode: It doesn’t point to the same position than Google Earth, Is there any that I am missing?:
[map addr=”36.290422,-5.271133” width=”100%” height=”400px” zoom=”16”]
Hello Antoska, try the lat lng parameters instead of add. We noticed that this wasn’t in our documentation, we are adding it right away. Thanks!
[map lat="36.290422" lng="-5.271133" width="100%" height="400px" zoom="16"]
How do I enable the food menu group descriptions?
Hi Duprenicholas92, you can add text below the group title but what you’ll need to do is output the shortcode without the title, and then manually add it in above with the description below. If you can just send me a link to your site from our author profile page (http://bit.ly/192AH5I) then I’ll see how you have it setup and I can send over the sample code. Cheers!
I have a little question for you
I would like to display a description for my MENU GROUP description in my Menu.
Is this possible?
[foodmenu groups=breakfast-menu showtitles=0 showsubtitles=0]
[foodmenu groups=lunch-menu showtitles=0 showsubtitles=0]
Thanks for your fast reply.
I can’t do it automatically? I need to design “by hand” my page to add my custom description for the Menu Group?
What i can do with showsubtitles?
showsubtitles allows you to enable / disable showing nested food menu groups.
The example above is the way to present your food menu groups with custom descriptions. How many food groups will you be using?
How can I add Instagram link on the sidebar?
In each of the skin folders you will find an folder file \skins\black\images\, inside that is a filed sprites.png. If you update that file and overwrite what’s there with your icons, you should be able to play around with different social media icons settings. You will see how we have them laid them out. You’ll need to stay within the boundaries of the current icon placements inside sprites.png because we are using css sprites, where everything is lined up correctly.
Because Instagram is so popular we will be adding it to our sprite file in the future. Thanks.
First I want to say that I just love this theme, Great job!
On the Home page under the 2 column “Lunch Specials” & “Wine List” how do I limit the number of items shown? example if I have 10 items in a food group but I want to show only 3 items.
Also is it possible to show only 1 item from each food group but from several groups in a column?
Hi lbpepe12, thanks! Great to hear you’re enjoying the theme. The way the food menu is setup, it’s intended that you display all items from a menu group at once. If you want to have just a few items display, then you would just need to create a separate group containing only those items. You could call the group for instance “Home Lunch Specials” to differentiate from the other, and then use the food menu shortcode with showtitles=0 to hide the title and then put an H2 with “Lunch Specials” above the shortcode if you want the title there (more info here: http://bit.ly/1hTngrk)
You can certainly have multiple groups in one column, just stacked one and then the next- but if you want to display a bunch of items from various groups, it would make the most sense to add all of them to one group and then include just that group, since you can have any one food menu item a part of as many groups as you’d like. Cheers!
Worked like a charm!!!
Hello I have an important question before purchasing. I am wondering if this theme allows you to have multiple Tab style food menus for one site. I.E. one Tab style lunch menu and one Tab style Dinner menu on seperate pages. A friend of mine used this theme for a client of his and said he was unable to create two separate Tab menus and they kept conflicting. I have a client that loves this theme but has two distinct different menus that I would need to account for. Thanks ahead of time
Hi jfournier, yes absolutely. There isn’t any reason why they should be conflicting. As an example we have 2 separate tabbed menus in our demo.
First one: http://bit.ly/19FWvqB
You could even have multiple sets of tabs on the same page if wanted to. Of course if you have any questions as you go, you can feel free to contact us for support. Cheers!
Any idea how soon Instagram’s going to be added? My client wants to be able to update it himself and I can’t see that modifying the sprites file will allow him to do that!
An update would be much appreciated!
Hi Dean, we are planning a new release soon and Instagram will be on it. We’ll have the next release within 30 days. If you need it sooner, just replace one of the icons that you don’t use in the sprite image file and then use the admin options to add the URL to your client’s instagram account.
For example: You could pull the Tumblr icon and replace it with an Instagram icon, then save the sprite image. One that is done, go to appearance / theme options under the social media tab and use the Tumblr field to add in your instagram link.
I hope this help you.
Thanks, that’s much simpler than I expected! Will try that for now and wait for the update. Cheers,
How do you remove the decorative line underneath the title on pages?
Hello earnest_m! Thanks for reaching out.. Here is the code to hide the decorative line on all pages.
So, you can add this under appearance / theme options / General Tab / Custom CSS
WIll this support Wp 3.8 ?
Hi Fazzy, yes Eatery supports WP 3.8
I would like to disable link in tabbed menu.
I tried like that, but it doesn’t work..
[tab title="Pastry"][foodmenu groups="pastries" showtitles=0 showsubtitles=0][/tab]
[tab title="Bread"][foodmenu groups="bread" showtitles=0 showsubtitles=0][/tab]
[tab title="Sandwich"][foodmenu groups="sandwiches" showtitles=0 showsubtitles=0][/tab]
[tab title="Rice"][foodmenu groups="rice" showtitles=0 showsubtitles=0][/tab]
[tab title="Dessert"][foodmenu groups="desserts" showtitles=0 showsubtitles=0][/tab]
[tab title="Donut"][foodmenu groups="donuts" showtitles=0 showsubtitles=0][/tab]
[tab title="Lunch"][foodmenu groups="lunch" showtitles=0 showsubtitles=0][/tab]
[tab title="Catering"][foodmenu groups="catering" showtitles=0 showsubtitles=0][/tab]
Would you give me some advice?
Hi candymocchi, we’ll just need you to log into the account that was used to purchase the theme. As you can imagine, we can only offer support to confirmed purchasers. Cheers!
I am candymocch. I bough this template by another account..sorry to confuse you.
[tabwrap] [tab title="Pastry"][foodmenu groups="pastries" showtitles=0 showsubtitles=0][/tab] [tab title="Bread"][foodmenu groups="bread" showtitles=0 showsubtitles=0][/tab] [tab title="Sandwich"][foodmenu groups="sandwiches" showtitles=0 showsubtitles=0][/tab] [tab title="Rice"][foodmenu groups="rice" showtitles=0 showsubtitles=0][/tab] [tab title="Dessert"][foodmenu groups="desserts" showtitles=0 showsubtitles=0][/tab] [tab title="Donut"][foodmenu groups="donuts" showtitles=0 showsubtitles=0][/tab] [tab title="Lunch"][foodmenu groups="lunch" showtitles=0 showsubtitles=0][/tab] [tab title="Catering"][foodmenu groups="catering" showtitles=0 showsubtitles=0][/tab] [/tabwrap]
Hi nokamoto, thanks for your patience If you’re looking to have your tabbed menu item links disabled, it’s actually controlled on a per-item basis. So you just have to open up each item in the WP dashboard and scroll down to the “Menu Item Details” section- at the bottom you’ll see a checkbox labelled “Disable Link to Item Details Page”. Cheers!
I did it!!
Thank you for your prompt reply.
You’re very welcome!
Hellow, can you help me with the FOOD MENU please?. I dont know how it works and I need it.
Hi Maurox29, sure thing- we’ll just need you to log into the account that was used to purchase the theme and then leave us a comment or send a message. Cheers!
