I can’t seem to find out how to get rid of the text on the sidebar after I installed this. “Eatery comes with a Sidebar Menu. See the help file to learn how to add sidebar navigation” There are no widgets making it appear, I went through most of the files that I thought could be connected to it but I can’t find it. D: Help? Thank you.

Themovation

Hi polyosis, that text appears there as a placeholder until you add a menu using the WordPress menu system. From the dashboard go to Appearance > Menus, and then add a menu and select it under the Theme Location. Cheers.

Great looking theme! Is there an easy way to make the top images into a slider?

Themovation

Hi glopc, the top header image is in the background and a simple style includes the image. Depending on your skill level, it’s definitely possible, but it would require some customization of files. We are also available for freelance work for this type of customization. If you’d like to discuss that, please contact us through our author profile page.

Let us know if you have further questions. Cheers.

Hello, great theme. I have few questions : - for the map, it seems that the +/- bar on the right is “scumble” ... any idea why and how to fix that? - I would like to show some video (from Utube or vimeo) inserted in the slider or not. what should I do/use for that? - The social icons are a bit too big, my guess is if I resize them i will need to change some setup .. right? can yopu tell me where? - The changing color mode is not working (they still gey) ... any idea or fix for this? - What about putting a full image background? Is that a possibility or should I use the tiling mode (how this will respond with the responsive setup?) Thanks Pascal

Themovation

Hi Inforescense, thank you! In regard to the Map that’s an issue that will be corrected in the next release this week. We have a hotfix we can send to you if you send us a message from our author profile.

We made use of the Nivo slider in this theme, which is an image-only slider. If you would like to add video to a page or post and you want it to be responsive, check out this blog post which shows an easy solution: http://bit.ly/UNyCTn – the example is Youtube, but Vimeo would work as well. You would just need to copy/paste the CSS into the Custom CSS block in the WP Theme Options, and then wrap the div around your embed as shown.

The social media icon color changer should be working, but if you want to use a different size then you’ll need to recreate the image anyway, so the color changer wouldn’t be used. When you send the message to our profile, I can send you the PSD for the icons so that you can export them at a new size and some CSS will need updating as well.

For the background image, if you put it in as the bg tile then it will just tile from the top left corner regardless of window size. If you want to put a large image as the background, you can copy/paste this into the Custom CSS block in the Theme Options and change the image URL:

body {background: #fff url(‘http://website.com/images/image.jpg') no-repeat fixed center;}

Cheers!

Hello there,

I have purchased your themeand have a question about the header images. I have uploaded four images but they are not all showing. IS there a way to have a slider accross these header images so You can see them all? Does it have something to do with the shortcode? If so how do I go about doing this?

As you can tell by the question this is my first site I am playing with.

Thanks

Themovation

Hi Gioonline,

After you upload the header images, they are stitched together into one large image. Depending on your screen resolution, you may not see all of the photos. The images in the header are static, and they are totally separate from the slider and the other shortcodes. Cheers!

Hi quick final question. I see a drop down tab in the reservation form for time but none for month and day. Is it possible to add a dropdown menu for the month and day?

Thanks in advance and Happy New Year :)

Themovation

Happy New Year! The reservation form does not currently offer that as an option. It is possible to change, but it would take some customization. Cheers.

Any ideasa how I would go about doing that or can you point me in the direction of a tutorial which shows how to do this?

Also is it easy to change the currency from $ to £ on the price?

Thanks again

Themovation

The reservation form change would require editing multiple files, and it’s not something that a tutorial would really cover, but it would be pretty straight forward for a web developer. Otherwise if you want to change or add form fields, you may be better off making use of a form plugin. Our personal favorite is Gravity Forms (http://bit.ly/gqa9N) which is a premium plugin but there are some excellent free ones as well. Formidable (http://bit.ly/bF8dc4) has a free Lite version. Both those plugins include drag and drop menu building which makes it very straight forward.

Changing the currency however is very simple as long as you have the latest version, which was released on Dec 21. Just go into your WordPress dashboard to Theme Options > General, scroll to the bottom and you will see the option to put in any symbol you want. Cheers.

Hi, I purchased the Theme, it works really nice, but I’m having issues with the Typography options, my headers are showing Ok, but the paragraph text is not showing my selected font from the theme options, where or how can I fix this…

Themovation

Hi TaddChapman,

Thanks for purchasing. That’s a bug that some users were experiencing. It’s fixed in the latest version of the theme, so if you haven’t made any changes to the theme files, we would recommend just downloading the latest version. If you have made changes, then just send us an email from our author profile page and we can send you a hotfix. Cheers!

I’m having trouble with the slideshow on the homepage. I did not add a new page for the homepage. I created a custom ‘Home’ in the menus section and linked it to my website’s homepage. I can not figure out how to add the slideshow without adding a new page. I’m sure it has something to do with how i set up the pages, but I’m lost. I hope I’m making sense. I’m clueless about the Food Menu as well. Your help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Themovation

Hi ttibsen, thanks for choosing Eatery. We are happy to help you. The [slideshow] shortcode works anywhere that you can place text. If you are using your homepage as a blogfeed then you could add the [slideshow] shortcode to the most recent blog post to make it display on the homepage.

If that’s not ideal for your setup then you could add it directly to home.php using the do_shortcode function (http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/do_shortcode) anywhere outside of the “Loop” (http://codex.wordpress.org/The_Loop). Here is an example script that I placed inside home.php directly above the ‘Loop’.

<?php echo do_shortcode("[slideshow slider_width=656px showtitle=0]http://INSERT_YOUR_IMAGE_HERE.jpg[/slideshow]"); ?>

There is more information inside our documentation that is included in the Eatery theme zip file.

The Food Menu is also displayed using a shortcode [foodmenu]. You can find out more inside our documentation. One of our goals was to make the documentation user-friendly and thorough.

I hope we have helped you today.

Cheers!

I’m using Eatery for a client website and I love the theme, but there seems to be a problem with the menu_item_wrapper div. It contains everything but the description added to the items in the food menu (see example screen cap below). The food menu also seems to be ignoring breaks and carriage returns in the description. I compared the output source code to the source code on the ThemeForest live example and they are the same. So, what’s wrong with my version of the theme?

Example: http://zydecomedia.com/temp/foodmenu-overflow.png

Themovation

Hi mcfreeman, thanks! In regard to the shortcode ignoring breaks, if you use a manual excerpt you can insert
tags which will work as expected.

The overflow issue I haven’t seen before though. Have you perhaps made some CSS changes to the theme? I can have a look if you send a message through our author profile page including the login for your WordPress site. Cheers.

Hi there! Thanks for making a lovely theme! I have a question regarding the slideshow. What is your suggested method for adding images to a slideshow. Currently, I insert images onto the page via Add Media button and then add the [slideshow] shortcodes around the group of images. The way it’s set up with your theme, I then have to go into the code and remove all references to so that it just shows the full path to the image. Seems like I’m just missing some simple way to enter these images in. Plus, explaining this to my client is going to be a little challenging, so I would love your input. Thanks so much!

Themovation

Hi marisafal, You’re very welcome. Great to hear that the theme is working well for you. Since WordPress offers multiple ways to manage media, there are some options. The simplest way to add images to the slideshow shortcode would probably be to first go from the WP Dashboard to Media > Add New and then drag and drop any images you want to use. Then go to the Page and add the shortcode. Then when you go Add Media, click the image you want to use, and in the sidebar you’ll see the Attachment Display Settings. In the Link To dropdown, select Media File and the URL will show and automatically select. Then you can copy it, close the window and paste it into the shortcode- then repeat for the next images. I hope that is helpful! Cheers.

Hello, i like this theme, and im thinking of buying, i have some questions. It is translation ready? In the Menu it is possible that the image and the title donst jhave a link? I mean, the manu to be without links, and the images dont show in big. Thank you

Themovation

Hi ikerboy, thank you. The theme currently supports the use of any currency symbol (or text) and placement of either before or after price; also you can have either 12 or 24 hour clock on the reservation form. Other translation features are coming soon. For the menu, yes there is a setting where you can choose to have the the menu items link to their own pages or not, on a per item basis. The image lightbox can be disabled by changing just one section of code, which we can assist you with if you decide to purchase. Let us know if you have any further questions. Cheers!

When are the translation features coming? or if i buy the theme yu can help me wh some issues? Thanks! :D Keep good work!

We don’t have a firm date set for the full theme localization, but it may be within the next couple of weeks. Our documentation is very thorough and we offer great support so we can help if issues come up!

One last question; it is possible, that in the reservation form ask for the emial twice and that paste is disable? Hope i explain my self! Thank you. again!

Themovation

It’s possible but it would require some knowledge of html / jQuery to customize. As an alternative you can also easily use Gravity Forms (www.gravityforms.com) which would allow you to do those customizations much more easily. I hope this helps.

Hello Themovation, I’m trying to add in custom styles through a child theme function.php files using wp_enqueue_scripts. I call to it just fine, but you have other styles appearing below wp_head. I was wondering if you had a work-around without having to de-registering all your styles.

Thanks!

Themovation

Hi marisafal, thanks for contacting us. The only styling that should be showing up after wp_head should be inline styling for the theme admin options (custom colors, typography, social media). If you would like to add in custom styles to a child theme, we suggest making a style.css in your child folder and then using the @import to load the style.css from the parent theme. Similar to the way they do it in this WordPress Codex Example (http://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes).

I hope that helps and that I’m understanding your question. If you like please contact us via our contact form on our profile (http://themeforest.net/user/Themovation)

marisafal

I initially did that, but the style.css file gets called first, then all the rest of the stylesheets set by the theme. So the custom styles contained in style.css from the theme gets overwritten by everything else. So then I tried to enqueue it with functions and I’m able to prioritize it to the bottom of wp_head, but there are still styles that get outputted beneath this – from the Theme Options. Temporarily I duplicated your header.php file, placed that in my child theme and swapped the includes from the three Theme Options files to appear above wp_head and that seems to work. I would prefer to not have this copy of header and instead just use my functions.php file. I wasn’t sure if there was another work around you may know of.

Themovation

The style sheets have an execution hierarchy like so:

1 – Style.css (replaced with child style.css if you have a child theme)

2 – Skin css depending on which color skin you have selected in the admin options. (e.g. You can also replace this in your child theme /eatery-child/skins/breakfast/style.css)

3 – Theme Admin Option Inline Styles – You should be able to tweak most of this via theme options to your liking.

4 – Custom CSS (aka The last word) can be set by you under General / Custom CSS – This is in your case when you may want to override styling in #3 or the theme options.

5 – Alternatively if you are finding that some styles are still getting overridden you could also resort to using !important in your style.

#sidebar p { color: #000 !important ; }

With the above information I was able to make style modifications without coping header.php.

I hope this helps.

Hi there – thanks again for your help. I really appreciate your time. What was happening is that a style was hard-coded in the header_layoutOpt.php and was overwriting my css. I just pulled that one out and placed in in the custom css box and it works. I would love everything contained in one place with my custom.css being the final last word, but this will certainly work. Thanks again for all your help.

marisafal

Hi again – I’m pretty sure this will be my last question. Again, thanks so much for your help. I wanted to customize the food menu page and I notice it’s not set up as a template, but rather as a shortcode. Specifically, using CSS I’m changing the layout of the menu as a grid, instead of a stacked list. The thing is, the image sizes are hard coded into the file, there is no wrapper around the excerpt (so I can style it) and there is no display for the menu group taxonomy description. I can edit the foodmenu shortcode file to do what I want, but then if the site is upgraded, the changes will get lost. Do you have any suggestions for this? Thanks so much.

Themovation

Hi marisafal, have you tried using the columns shortcode as a wrapper for your menus? This would give you a grid style similar to how it is displayed on our demo site.

http://demo.themovation.com/eatery/

You are correct when you say that to change the image size of the menu item you would need to change the menu shortcode file. Alternatively you could also try creating a style for the image wrapper class “menu_item_image_sm”, this would probably only be suitable if you wanted to go smaller with the images size.

I hope that helps.

marisafal
marisafal Purchased

Hey – thanks for the quick reply!

The grid was the easy part, with just basic css. The issue really is the images (I’d like them bigger), lack of menu group description display and the no selector wrapping the excerpt (can’t style it). As you said, these sadly would have to be edited within the file.

I’m wondering if you may consider making these small changes for your next release? Maybe start the images a little larger – like around 220px or 250px (sizing down with css) and then add the other two items in there. That’s what I did to my file and it worked like a charm. I just don’t want to lose it when upgrading.

You can get an idea of what I’m doing here: http://screencast.com/t/Ui2OS3EN

Themovation

Hi marisafal, the screenshot looks great. Thanks for your suggestions. We will look at wrapping the description in a class for easier customization. As for the image size we will also look at putting this in the admin options. The tricky part here is making sure that it is all responsive for mobile and allowing customization. I believe with those two revisions we can avoid editing the shortcode file. What we might look at doing is providing another layout style like yours as this is very different from the one that comes with the theme. Please subscribe to our author page and we’ll make sure to look into these items. Thanks again for using Eatery. Your new website is looking very professional.

Hi guys, just a quick one regarding header images. On your live preview you have two images that span the whole page where as when I do it the images tile – as in do not fill the entire page. I followed the documentation rules exactly. This also happens with more 3 or more images too.

Thanks

Themovation

Hi Gioonline, the images in the live preview have a wide aspect ratio, so that’s why two images take up the most or all of the screen. For a similar effect, you can crop your images to around 850px (width) x 340px (height) before importing them. Cheers.

Hello Themovation,

I purchased and loaded v1.1 a few days back and I am having issues with the slider on my home page. I did initially load demo content which might be the source of my problems. If you look at my site kolachestop.com you will notice that it loads the slider on the homepage extremely slow! the placeholder image comes up in a different height compared to all my other images in the slider which looks bad. I do not want that initial image to load, I also do not want the content to load on that initial image\placehoder. If I inspect the element\resources it shows about 30 images that are not relevant to my site or the slider which I think is also the reason this loads so slowly. How do I remove that from my slider? hope my question makes sense (looking at the homepage of my site should clarify)

Themovation

Hi gaffilg,

We do recommend importing the demo content as it’s a great way to get setup quickly. Included in the content are just two images, so I don’t think it would have added a bunch of unrelated images there. When I view the source I don’t see the placeholder images, but I do see that the first and last images in your slider have the source as just ” [ ”. So you should be able to remove those two images from shortcode and have the slider work as expected.

If you like I can certainly have a look if you just send admin login info for WordPress to us through our ThemeForest author profile page (http://bit.ly/11LFXDr). Cheers!

btw.. if you view the elements on the home page it shows that google maps is pulling images unrelated to the site. (e.g Los angelos CA) I counted 18 listed as “VT” ... why is this happening?

Themovation

You’re welcome; glad that worked for you! We made use of the Nivo slider in the theme, so you just need to edit the javascript file included with the theme and you can change the parameters. The file is located in eatery/js/nivo-slider/jquery.nivo.slider.js. Scroll to the bottom and you’ll see the default settings- you’ll want to change the pauseTime.

When viewing your site I didn’t really see any one page that was slower than others- even the About page which is very simple, was quite slow. Loading it a second time I noticed a big difference with the caching on. I did see that you’re hosted with Go Daddy, which is the main thing I would point the finger at. My experience is that their hosting is extremely slow, particularly for WordPress sites or anything more complicated than simple HTML. If you can, I would suggest switching to Dreamhost or Bluehost. The theme itself gets a very good PageSpeed score so I doubt it’s to do with your site specifically.

Regarding the Google map, it doesn’t seem to be doing anything out of the ordinary and I don’t think it’s causing any slowdown compared to other pages, so again I’d point at hosting. Cheers!

Thank you for quick and most important thorough responses!(as a newbie i really appreciate that) The last thing I need is to know how to change the font used in the slider from all caps to lowercase. I see where to change the font family but not case style e.g.

can you guide me as to the css I would use to style the nivo caption case?

i forgot something. when I add any additional social media url’s in your interface (theme options>social media) the sidebar adds the facebook icon rather than the expected icon e.g. I added the company’s urbanspoon url and now I have two facebook icons on the sidebar rather than one facebook and one urbanspoon

Themovation

You’re welcome, gaffilg. To change the caption text back to normal so that it displays as it’s typed, you would just include this line of CSS either in your child theme or in the Custom CSS box in the Theme Options:

.nivo-caption {text-transform:none !important;}

Regarding the social media icon issue, I can’t replicate that problem. I just tested it on the latest version of the theme and latest WordPress and it’s working as it should. Have you edited much CSS in the theme?

Hello,

How can I enable commenting on menu item pages? I would like to have commenting enabled only on specific menu groups.

Thanks!

Themovation

Hi omnoogle, commenting on food menu items was not an intended feature of the theme, so it’s not extremely straight forward to add that functionality, but it certainly is possible. It’s best to use a child theme in a situation like this, and what you’d want to do is duplicate and then edit the single-food.php file, and find the following code:

the_content(''); ?>

and add this line directly after that:

<?php comments_template( '', true ); ?>

Then the comments will be enabled. You’ll likely have to edit some CSS after that to make it look exactly how you want. Then you can bulk edit the menu items you wish to disable comments on and do it all at once. Cheers!
