I’ve made some items in the food menu. On the home-page I’ve added [foodmenu]. But it doesn’t work. I only see the names of the categories, but nu the content / exerpts / prices of the items. Can you please tell me what the error might be? Thank you

Themovation

Thanks for yours answer. I found the problem; it’s the translation plugin WPML. That doesn’t work with this template. I’m going to look for an other solution than using the [foodmenu].

Too bad, but I don’t see an other solution. WPML is really needed.

Themovation

Hi paladijn, I’ll try installing WPML and see what kind of results I get.

Themovation

Hi paladijn, we just released a fully localized version so WPML should be working well now. Our theme is in the process of getting approved by WPML and should be ready very soon. Cheers!

Themovation

Hi again, just wanted to follow up and let you know that the current version of our theme is now officially WPML compatible. Cheers!

Hey, I’m in a hurry!? How do you remove the “Eatery comes with a Sidebar Menu. See the help file to learn how to add sidebar navigation.” Can’t find it anywhere…

Also, the sidebar links to Menu, Blog and such are much smaller and in a horizontal row. How do I fix this?

Themovation

Hi doctorcameo, to remove the sidebar message, you just need to add a WordPress menu. The help file is located in the download package, and also online (http://bit.ly/W02DAI).

I’m not sure what you mean regarding the smaller, horizontal links. If you send us an email through our author profile page (http://bit.ly/11LFXDr) then I will have a look and let you know. Cheers!

Default-user

I fixed it by re-installing (can’t really think of what caused it, did what you said). Thanks for a great theme.

Themovation

You’re welcome- great that it’s resolved. By the sounds of it, it may have been because your theme folder title was too long, which can happen if you extract the zip and use the long titled folder as the theme folder. Cheers!

Would I be able to develop it on a beta subdomain and then move it to main domain after testing? Thanks

Themovation

Hi MSBlogger, yes can. :) We do it all the time.

Hi Themovation, that was superfast respond! Can we modify the background at the content section with either a background image or color? Like what you have with your seafood option second half background. Thanks :)

Default-user

Hi Themovation, that was superfast respond! Just to confirm that it allows modification of the background at the content section with either a background image or color? Like what you have with your seafood option second half background.

Themovation

Yes sir! You got it. :)

Themovation

Seafood is a great example of what you can do with the theme via the Admin Options. http://demo.themovation.com/?color=seafood – you can chose as many photos for the top background band, and then a nice tile or image background for the rest of the page. The sidebar also allows a texture or custom color. Sweet!

Thank you for choosing Eatery. Yes, there is demo content included in the zip file. Try to install that first to get you started. There is also a detailed help file in the zip file under a folder /documentation as well as online here http://demo.themovation.com/eatery/documentation/

Is this site mobilize for smartphones? I cannot see background image. Thanks

Themovation

Hi MSBlogger, yes the theme is responsive for all screen sizes down to a smart phone.

You will notice that when resizing your screen to about 750px wide and smaller, the color used for the page background (usually white) expands to the sides to make room for content and to provide good contrast for text. At that point there really isn’t any room for a background image.

When you get down to smart phone size (480px wide) there is very little room, so it’s just text and background color.

I hope that helps. :)

Does anyone know how to change the order of individual menu items once you have assigned them to a group? I put in the code snippet with the menu group slug on my page, but there are some food items that I want to move around and have closer to the top than the others.

Themovation

Hi siqve006, the best way to do this is to play around with the publish date. There is no sort order at this time. We are planning on adding a drag and drop sort order feature but it’s not ready yet. You can still sort by the publish date. I hope this helps :)

Good afternoon. I just bought the theme. I hit 2 or 3 small difficulties. The first is that I get this message when I view the products page: “Error:. Attachment not found” However, my picture is there. Here is the address of my site: http / /: www.aubergedestilleuls.fr Then I can not use the Slide Show. In addition, the system to add pictures in the slide show is not ergonomic, it’s a shame.

Themovation

Hi gilles31, thanks for using Eatery. We would like to help you get sorted out. I’m not sure if by products page you mean a menu item or if you are using the gallery short code. If you are using the WordPress Gallery Shortcode then you’ll need to link to file not the attachment.

http://codex.wordpress.org/Gallery_Shortcode

[gallery link=”file”] is the way that works best with Eatery. I hope that helps. I also know there is a small bug with WordPress 3.5.1 and the gallery shortcode not added the link=file part.

If you can contact us through our author profile page and send us a link to your site we can have a closer look.

Here is a link to the documentation for our slideshow shortcode

http://demo.themovation.com/eatery/documentation/#slideshowShortcode

I’ll have another run through of the slideshow shortcode to make sure it’s as user-friendly as it can be. Thank you for your comments :)

Thank you for your reply but I still can not get to work properly in the Slide Show my home page. So I bought another plugin called Flux Slider. It is user friendly and is what I want to do but I find myself with my submenus now spend UNDER the Slider. Can you help me? http://www.aubergedestilleuls.fr
Themovation

Hi gilles31, the only issue with flux is that it’s not designed for mobile. fortunately our slide show short code is responsive for mobile.

All that you need to make our sideshow work is the path to the image. I’ve put up a temporary page for you so you can see it in action pulling images from your website. I’ve also included sample code so you can copy / paste into your website.

http://demo.themovation.com/eatery/slideshow_sample/

We feel that our slide show would serve you better. It’s responsive and doesn’t require any special plugins.

Feel free to use both if you like. We’ll look into the fly out menu issue for you as well and post it in a separate comment. :)

Themovation
If you do want to still use Flux though, you can just copy / paste the following code into the Custom CSS box in Appearance > Theme Options:
.wp-fluxslider {position:relative; z-index:1;}
Cheers!

Thank you very much for the constructive and effective responses. It’s late here in France but tomorrow I will try to use your example code. Did you see the problem I have in the article with the picture? Thank you again for your help!

Themovation

You’re very welcome :) regarding the attachment error on the post, that comes up if you are using an image larger than 1024×768 for the featured image of the post. We’ll be correcting this in the next release, but in the meantime it will work if you just resize the image using a program like Picasa, Fireworks or Photoshop before uploading to WP. Cheers.

Ok .. I note the problem and I will fix the size of my image. You know, when you do not know the language (English), it is difficult to understand the system developer. If you can, in the future, I invite you to upload videos on YouTube. This is certainly what best explains all possible manipulations. I do not buy a lot of themes and some of your colleagues are using this method. Believe me, it is very effective. Thank you! Gilles

I just changed the size of the image. It now appears but not in the size that I want. The faces are cut. How do I proceed? thank you http://www.aubergedestilleuls.fr/bonjour-tout-le-monde/
Themovation
Thanks for the feedback, we’ll certainly consider including more videos with our documentation. Regarding the image crop, it always crops from the center. It’s generally ideal for landscape images, but isn’t always for portrait images. You have a couple of options- you can crop the image (using WordPress tools or another program) and have it appear as you like, or you could put the image into the body of the blog post using our image shortcode, specifying the dimensions you want the thumbnail to be. You can see the example updated here below the previous slideshow example: http://demo.themovation.com/eatery/slideshow_sample/ Cheers!

Hello Can you tell me please if it possible to easily add a background image instead of the background you have?

Also is it possible to add another theme color?

Many thanks

Themovation

Hi jls2505, yes definitely. There is a field in the theme options for background tile/image and another field for sidebar tile/image. We also have fields for other areas of the site so you can very easily change the theme colors based on one of our skins, or make it completely custom. Let us know if you have any other questions. Is there any way to display blog posts in a similar fashion as the foodmenu groups? I tried putting the blog shortcode in one of the one-column blocks, but it’s huge. Was planning on digging into the code to see if I can replicate the same functionality, but thought I’d check here first. Just looking to display a smaller thumbnail and title.

Themovation

Hi pantone204, having the blog posts display in the style of the food menu items was not something that we built into the theme, so it would be custom work. Your best bet would be to reference the HTML and CSS used in the food menu shortcode, and create new template files for the blog and blog single pages in a child theme. Cheers.

Is there a way to stop the background image from tiling? I need a single image as the background.

Themovation

Hi trumpetblastmarketing! To prevent the background image from repeating, put this in your Custom CSS under theme options:

body{background-repeat:no-repeat;}

You might also want to align center and to the top. In that case add the following in addition to the above CSS:

background-position:center top;

Thanks for purchasing. We hope you are enjoying it.

Hi there,

I bought your template a while ago, but i’ve noticed that some of my contactforms & reservationforms aren’t working properly. It’s possible to send a form without any filled-in fields, even if all the fields are on “required”. Can you help me with this problem?

Here’s a link to the site: http://www.coken.nl/contact/

Thanks already!

Gr. Sander

Themovation

Hi Gr. Sander, when I tested your form I noticed that I was able to send without filling in the fields. Did you figure this out? Thanks for purchasing Eatery.

Default-user

Well, that’s actually the problem. I’ve got all the settings on “required” (even checked the php-file) but I can’t find the reason for that. Do you’ve got any idea where I can fix this problem?

Themovation

Ah I see. It looks like something has been customized there. Make sure you have specific validation set (numeric, min length etc..). We are pre-populating fields with helpful text so a simple ‘required’ validation will pass without entering anything. You’ll need to set min-length or numeric in order to validate what gets entered. Here is an example for phone:

<input type="text" name="formphone" id="formphone" value="Phone" onfocus="if(this.value=='Phone')this.value='';" onblur="if(this.value=='')this.value='Phone';" class="input-text full {validate:{required:true,minlength:7}}" />

Cheers.

Themovation

Don’t forget to update wp_mail.php to ensure your new / customized fields get sent out in the confirmation email. Cheers!

Default-user

Hi,

This is what I got so far, for an example, but the problem still remains:

<input type=”text” name=”formname” id=”formname” value=”Uw volledige naam” onfocus=”if(this.value==’Full Name’)this.value=’’;” onblur=”if(this.value==’‘)this.value=’Full Name’;” class=”input-text full {validate:{required:true,minlength:7}}” />

Themovation

Try this:

<input type="text" name="formname" id="formname" value="Uw volledige naam" onfocus="if(this.value=='Uw volledige naam')this.value='';" onblur="if(this.value=='')this.value='Uw volledige naam';" class="input-text two_thirds {validate:{required:true,minlength:3}}" />

Make sure there is only one formname input field in your form.

Also, you will need to change ‘full name’ inside eatery/js/form-validation/jquery.validate.js with ’’uw volledige naam’‘

or else it will assume that the min length has already been met and validation won’t work. :)

Default-user

Hi there,

I still couldn’t find where I have to modify the stuff above. Just can’t find it… :( Can I send you some logins of the site so you can take a look at it, maybe?

Themovation

Hi Gr. Sander, the newest version of the theme is 100% localized so if you haven’t edited any core files you can overwrite with the latest copy of Eatery. Then you can use something like WPML to translate in the language of your choice. Sound good?

Hi! I recently bought the theme and I really like it! I just have two more questions for you guys:

- Is there a possibility to change the height of the lists in the food menu? I tried looking into the code but I can’t seem to find the right line to change it so the lines are shorter to each other. - I have the same problem as doctorcameo where the text ‘Eatery comes with a Sidebar Menu. See the help file to learn how to add sidebar navigation.’ in the sidebar doesn’t disappear when I add the standard Wordpress menu (I actually use a custom menu at the moment). Can you tell me where I can find the text in the code so I can remove it?

Thanks and keep up the good work!

Bart

Themovation

Hi Smileyfrea, I’m not sure what you mean about the food menu lists. Are you referring to the vertical space between each menu item? Regarding the Sidebar Menu issue, I can have a look if you just send us an email through our author profile page ( http://bit.ly/11LFXDr ) including a link to the site. Cheers!

Default-user

Hi! Thanks for the quick reply! I’m indeed referring to the vertical spacing between the menu items. I will also send you an Email for the other problem thanks!

Themovation
You’re welcome. To decrease the space between menu items, you can copy/paste this code into your Custom CSS box in Appearance > Theme Options, and then adjust from there:
.menu_item_wrapper {border:0; padding:5px 0;}
Cheers!

After I check the “Live Preview” of a site, I go to the comments section to see what the support looks like. Both look great. I have some more digging to do to verify the security of Wordpress in general vs. straight HTML, but I think this will be the site I go with.

(I had 2 Wordpress sites compromised by hackers when I didn’t update to the latest version, and it brought both sites down. Not sure on how to backup the Wordpress database stuff, so I’m going to look into it more.)

Themovation

Thank you. Yes it’s important to keep WordPress updated, and you can actually subscribe on wordpress.org to be notified when a new version is released ( sidebar here: http://bit.ly/awVa6Z ). There’s more info available about WP security as well: http://bit.ly/NQox. Your hosting provider should offer a way for you to create backups, so you could contact them if you’re not sure. Cheers.

How do I get the slide titles not to show up in the slideshow? Thank you!

trainwrecka

One other question – with the Food Menu, how does “parenting” work? For example – could I create 2 menus called Dine-In and Carry-Out, then make an appetizer section under each one? Thanks!

Themovation

Hi trainwrecka! – The answer to your first question:

Q: How do I get the slide titles not to show up in the slideshow?

A: Use showtitle=0 in your slideshow shortcode like this:

[slideshow slider_height=200 slider_width=668 effect=slicedown showtitle=0] http://FULL-PATH-TO-IMAGE.jpg http://FULL-PATH-TO-IMAGE.jpg [/slideshow]

You can find more documentation here: http://demo.themovation.com/eatery/documentation/#slideshowShortcode

trainwrecka

One more – how do I prevent the titles from linking in the food menu?

Themovation

Your second question:

Q: One other question – with the Food Menu, how does “parenting” work? For example – could I create 2 menus called Dine-In and Carry-Out, then make an appetizer section under each one? Thanks!

You can create Nested Menu Groups aka Parent / Child menu groups. Add your food menu items to the groups accordingly and then use the foodmenu shortcode to display.

[foodmenu]

See documentation for more details on how to use the foodmenu (display specific groups, hide titles and hide subtitles)

http://demo.themovation.com/eatery/documentation/#foodMenuShortCode

trainwrecka

Perfect thanks! Didn’t see how to prevent the food menu items from linking though.

Themovation

You’re very welcome. To disable the link, you can just go to the food menu item in the backend, scroll down to the box where you input the prices, and below the prices there’s a checkbox to “Disable Link to Item Details Page”. Cheers!

trainwrecka

Let me again say how great this theme is. It is like you thought of everything.

One other question – if I wanted to add a blurb between the menu title and the list of menu items – is that possible?

Example:

Breakfast, served 6-11am daily, Eggs Benedict menu item

Themovation

Thanks! Yes that’s possible as well, it just may require a slight change to how you use the shortcode. What we recommend for this situation is to use the food menu shortcode with showtitles=0 and then manually input the title above it with the description below that. For example, you would put the following into the page content:

<h2 class="menu-title">Breakfast</h2>
Served 6-11 am daily.
[foodmenu groups="eggs-benedict" showtitles=0 showsubtitles=0]

Depending on how you’re currently using the shortcode you may just have to change it to use the shortcode 3 times on the page- first to output the groups above and then to output the groups below that as well. That should give you what you’re after. Cheers

trainwrecka

Thank you kindly sir!

I’m trying to use a “color picker” for the social media icons. Is that possible? The casual theme color is perfect, but is not in the list of custom colors for the icons. Thanks!

Themovation

There are a few options for stylizing the social media icons;

1) Use the theme options under the social media tab to select 1 of the 6 options (Bright White, Light Grey, etc…) Make sure to check ‘Use Custom Icon Color’ and save changes.

2) If the casual theme social media icon color is perfect, then you can copy its social media icon file into the folder for the theme you are using. So copy the sprites.png image from \eatery\skins\casual\images\sprites.png into the \images\sprites.png into the folder of the skin your are using. Keeping mind that the icons are semi transparent black so it will show the sidebar background color through the icon.

3) You can always open sprites.png inside your skin \images folder and color the social media icon file as you like. As an example. If you are using seafood, you would open \eatery\skins\seafood\images\sprites.png and change the color in a graphics program (Photoshop), save is a transparent png.

Cheers! :)

Hi pressleysatthemarina, this usually happens when the theme folder name is too long. WordPress can’t handle long folder names. Themovation

Hi, very nice theme. My client is asking me this:

1) is it possible to use a normal page background and a background color, and after, how to move the content div higher, quite as the same height of the sidebar?
Hi kkri – Yes you can customize the background and background color to anything you like. You can also move the content give higher (there is an option for tha admin). You can always tweak with custom CSS (there is an admin option for that too)
2) can I move the sidebar on the right?
Good question – 1st time for this one. I’ll have a look and see. I’m sure it’s just going to be some custom CSS. I’ll back back to you asap.
3) the slider works nicely in Chrome but has some delay with IE e FF. Can you check?
Hmm… I haven’t noticed this. We did major testing and this wasn’t an issue. I’ll have a closer look and get back to you.
4) Any chance for a dark version? Thank you.
At the moment we have 6 styles and the option to customize any part of the site using color pickers and custom css. Thanks for the suggestion.
Themovation

Regarding moving the sidebar to the right, it would be possible but would require some editing of code for sure. I wouldn’t recommend it really. It complicates it because of the dropdown menus and the responsive functionality.

I had another look at the slider, and can’t replicate the issue. Even with cleared cache and private browsing, it operates the same in all browsers. We made use of the Nivo slider which is very popular and has been around for a while. You could check if the issue is the same on the demos there: http://dev7studios.com/nivo-slider/#/demos Cheers!

kkri

Regarding moving the sidebar to the right, well, I hope it would be possible in a future and I’m sure it’ll help someone else too. The slider doesn’t go smoothly with the demo 2 also in Nivo Slider page, but in your theme is possible to choose which Nivo slider to use?

Themovation

We didn’t design the theme with the idea of moving the sidebar to the right in mind. Because of the the fact that the logo and navigation are there, it’s not ideal. That being said, all things are possible, it would just take some extra work.

Included in the theme is just the one Nivo slider style. You can however choose the size of the slideshow and choose the effects right within the shortcode, and if you open the Javascript file you can very easily edit the other attributes such as speed, pause time, etc. If you wanted to make use of a different skin showcased on the main Nivo site, you could just copy the files from the Nivo download package and would just need to updated the path in the functions.php file.

kkri

In fact very original place to add the logo. Well, I will try to add the slide as it’s now and see it in action. The important is that if it doesn’t work, the theme is compatible with other slider plugins.

Themovation

Yeah, there isn’t anything that would prevent our theme from being compatible with other slider plugins. I think you’ll find Nivo works well though, especially since it’s responsive as well so it works on all devices, which not all sliders offer.

I would like to have the mixed style and the map short codes

Themovation

Mixed style

2 columns:
[one_half]
[foodmenu groups=home-specials showtitles=0 showsubtitles=1]
[/one_half]
[one_half_last]
[foodmenu groups=home-wines showtitles=0 showsubtitles=1]
[/one_half_last]
+ Regular style
[foodmenu groups="breakfast" showtitles=1 showsubtitles=1]
+ Tabbed
[tabwrap]
[tab title="Signature Items"][foodmenu groups=signature-items][/tab]
[tab title="Healthy Choices"][foodmenu groups=healthy-choices][/tab]
[tab title="New Items"][foodmenu groups=new-to-menu][/tab]
[/tabwrap]
Here is the Map shortcode example
[map addr="556 BEATTY STREET PALO ALTO, CA" width="600" heigh="200" zoom="16"]

We have our menu groups listed inside the examples but you’ll need to replace them with yours. I hope that helps you :)

Here are some helpful documentation links:

Thank you so much. Please do you have codes for menu subgroup. Restaurant has dine in and take away and under each category, different food category. The above codes you gave contain only one menu group level, whilst we needed at least two levels at menu group before items are defined. Thank you. :)

Themovation

You’re very welcome. The shortcode makes use of the WordPress parent/child functionality, similar to how Pages work. So it will actually display the child groups as well if you include the parent group in the shortcode. You just have to go to Food Menu > Menu Groups and make sure that the child groups have a group set as parent.

Example : 1st Parent Group – Take Away, Child has Pastas, Pizzas, etc and 2nd Parent Group – Dine In, Child has Pastas, Pizzas, etc. Appreciate if you could provide the shortcodes that I could emulate you. Thank you

Sure thing, it would depend how you want it to display though. In the most basic example, you could just put

[foodmenu groups="take-away"]

and as long as the child groups are set up with Take Away as parent, then they would display below with titles. If you have a page titled “Take Away” and you want just the subtitles to display, then you would edit the shortcode to be
[foodmenu groups="take-away" showtitles=0 showsubtitles=1]
so that the parent title is hidden and the child group titles still show. If you were to use Columns or Tabs however, then you would need to specify the child groups in each column or tab instead, similar to the above example.
