Hi, I’m an owner of this theme. Is there a way to add red chilli icon behind dish’s name to indicate it’s spicy and to add green vegetable icon behind dish’s name to indicate it’s for vegetarian? Or is it possible to hack? Best Regards.
Hi pumin, thanks for choosing the Eatery theme. I believe I’ve found a quick approach to adding this manually. It’s not guaranteed to work for you but perhaps worth a try. Please message us via our Author Profile here (http://themeforest.net/user/Themovation) – Cheers!
Hi guys this looks like an excellent theme indeed. 2 questions:
1) can an idividual menu item page have comments, or social sharing (ie like Facebook comments plugin) on them? I’d like my client to be able to promote their dishes on social networks with a facebook commenting plugin, or sharing icons beneath each description. For example on this page: http://demo.themovation.com/eatery/food/ahi-tuna/
2) can the header images be made to rotate such as on this site? http://www.bacomercat.com/ Any way to do this? Perhaps it’s not a built-in feature, but is it possible? Thanks for the help!
Hi bigfootweblabs! Thanks for contacting us.
Yes we can help you enable comments menu items. There are several plugins to help you enable social sharing and facebook comments. I found a plugin that looks legit (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/facebook-comments-plugin/)
Yes for the header image as well. It’s not built-in but the background image is displayed within a CSS ID selector, so a jquery script that changes background images would work nicely. Here is a working example on jsfiddle.net (http://jsfiddle.net/ZnAqE/1/). You’ll need some scripting knowledge but you can also ask us to consult with you if it turns out to be outside of your comfort level.
I hope this was helpful. Cheers!
great! Just purchased! I’ll be in touch as I dont understand how the header images work. I’d like to use one big long header image or maybe just two. When i try two, it repeats them, I thought it would just join them without repeating them over & over. What dimensions should I be using for 1 image (to occupy the whole header) or 2 images (one wide image to take up 2/3 of the header and one to take up 1/3 of the remaining header)?
That’s great
Basically the header images are resized to a 340px height, stitched together to make one image, and then repeated. So if you want 2 images to fill the whole screen then you’d want to upload images already sized to 340px height with the width you want. The images in the theme preview are about 800px in width. If you want one image to fill the whole width of the screen, it would depend on what screen resolution you want to target. The key thing is to resize the height ahead of time and then you’ll know exactly how wide it will appear. Let us know if you need any more clarity on this. Cheers!
Hi guys,
You did a good job with your clean simple theme. But I need help.
1. How can I show in the blog page only the feature image and a bit of summary? Not all of the blog post… 2. How can I hide the tags?
Currently we see feature image, post image and everything messed up in the blog page..
Thanks in advance for your help.
Thank you
If you want to show only the excerpt on a blog post, then you can use the WordPress more tag which you can add using the button in the content toolbar, next to the spellcheck icon. Other aspects of the template such as tags, categories, and date can be either removed from the template file, or hidden via CSS. It sounds like something is not quite right though? Feel free to send us a message through our author profile page with a link so I can see what you mean. Cheers!
Hey guys, I’m sending the message to your profile with the link.. Hope you can help that I need to fix this asap.. Thanks!!
Sure thing, I sent you an email!
hi!
i am considering purchasing this theme for a non profit television cooking show. a very important part of what we do is site subscriptions where members bookmark recipes. we have the s2member framework and jigoshop installed. is this theme compatible with those plug ins? do you have a list of known incompatible plugins?
what is your opinion on using this theme for our cooking show? i realize we won’t be using many of the features you’ve built in but we like the way that it looks, that it’s responsive, etc.
thank you so much. it’s an attractive theme and i am hoping that it will work for us.
Hello webchyk , thank you for contacting us. The Eatery theme as been very successful in working with other plugins and frameworks. There are no known issues so I believe this will work well for you. Apart from downloading and testing s2member and jigoshop there is no way to be 100% certain but we have made sure to leave the default WordPress functionality in tact so as not to disturb any built-in functionality. This makes it compatible with plugins and frameworks.
We are very conscience of support and aim to provide excellent service to everyone. You will be in good hands.
If you have any other questions please let us know.
Thank you so very much…you’ve sold me.
I’ll be purchasing shortly.
That sounds great. We are happy that we were able to help.
Hey, how do I get my header to look like the Demo. I am only wanted to use two images(each are about 900width). When I upload them, I have to select the “Auto crop and sew on save” or nothing will show in the header (only your default image). But when I do check this auto crop box it shows four images, which are just those two images tiled crop, instead of just the two.
Am I missing something? Thanks for your help!
Hi kpittman, Thanks for purchasing! Basically the header images are resized to a 340px height, stitched together to make one image, and then repeated. So if you want 2 images to fill the whole screen then you’d want to upload images already sized to 340px height with the width you want. Let us know if you need any more clarity on this. Cheers!
Thanks, that worked great! I appreciate the quick response!
You’re very welcome
Howdy. Purchased this theme and am having issues with the header image. I am trying to replace the original image that I uploaded, but it still shows the old image even though I deleted the old image and replaced it. Emptied my browser cache and even tried other browsers.
URL is http://www.palucatrattoria.com/wp/
Hello pantone204, thanks for contacting us. I like the name. When you uploaded the replacement image did you check the box next to the label that reads ’”Auto crop and sew on save”? Eatery will uncheck this each time a header image is uploaded to save on server resources.
I hope this helps you. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
Best regards!
Is it possible to create a gallery for the restaurant?? Photo gallery? I couldn’t see a template for this?
I already have blog posts in portfolio category but there is no portfolio page for this?
Thanks!
Yes, you can have a gallery on your site. We made use of the default WordPress gallery shortcode, and you can see an example on the theme demo: http://bit.ly/Z0mnRA
You referenced a link above for having rotating photos at the top. THat link is not working. Do you have another one?
Hi j_arendall, thanks for your interest. Here is the link http://jsfiddle.net/ZnAqE/1/ – Cheers!
whats the best way to do the update? So, as to not change settings and updated files.
Hello alexayala, thanks for your contacting us and for keeping your website updated.
If this is a WordPress Core update then you should back up and proceed with an Auto Update as explained here http://bit.ly/12Ug8Yb
If this is a Eatery Theme Update, you can ensure that your settings and modifications are retained by using a Child Theme, as explained in our documentation here http://bit.ly/YcpLg5
You can also use a Free program called WinMerge http://bit.ly/12UfHgz to compare the new vs old files / folders. This program allows you to quickly see what has changed.
If you have created a Child Theme chances are very good that nothing will be effected by upgraded the Theme. If you have been making changes directly to the parent Eatery Theme without a Child Theme then I would recommend you use WinMerge to compare files or whole folders.
It’s highly recommend that you backup your database and php files before performing any updates.
I hope this has been helpful.
Hi, I am having trouble getting the slider images to show. Just the marker circles show below where the images should be and you can see the transitions going to each successive circle. I uploaded the images into the wp-content/uploads/2013/03/ folder. If I paste the url for each image in a new browser window, it works so I believe I have the correct file paths. I am using the shortcode and changed the width to 656px to match my images, with no width set (mine are 270px high). Thank you for your help, Barbara
Hi barbaraevans, it’s hard to say without seeing it. The easiest way would be for me to login and have a look. If you send us a message through our author profile page with your WordPress admin login, then I’m sure we can get it resolved. Cheers!
Hi, thanks. Could you please tell me how to sign in through the author profile page. I have looked and tried to be resourceful but I can’t seem to find it.
Sure thing, here’s a link to our profile page: http://bit.ly/11LFXDr – just scroll to the bottom and on the right you’ll see a form where you can send us an email. Cheers!
Can’t figure out how to add a background color / image to the submenu? see: http://www.ambrosiabella.com/2013/ THANKS!
#sidebar-menu li ul {background-color:#181818 !important;}If that’s not working for you, then just send us a message through our author profile page (http://bit.ly/11LFXDr) with your WordPress admin login and I will have a look. Cheers!Hello im planning buying this theme, havea few questions:
1.- is translatio nready? 2.- It is possible to take out the image galery on the menu, no click on images? 3.- The reservation form that ask twicef for the email so i dont get a lot of spam/ no copy and paste? Thank you so much, keep the good work!!! i.
Hi ikerboy, thank you
the theme supports any and all currency symbols, as well as 12 or 24 hour time on the reservation form, but we have not yet added full translation to the theme. It will be coming in one of the next updates, but there isn’t a firm date yet.
You can choose to display images or not on the food menu, and if you want to disable the lightbox it would require changing a file, but would be very simple.
The reservation form change is also possible but would require a little more involved editing of code. Otherwise if you want to change or add form fields, you may be better off making use of a form plugin. Our personal favorite is Gravity Forms (http://bit.ly/gqa9N) which is a premium plugin but there are some excellent free ones as well. Formidable (http://bit.ly/bF8dc4) has a free Lite version. Both those plugins include drag and drop menu building which makes it very straight forward.
Hope that helps! Cheers.
Hello there,
Please tell me if i can create: multiple menu (menu#1,menu#2,...) with catgerories (starters, main course,...)
thank you in advance
Hi rgegeo! Yes, you can do all of that, because we use a flexible shortcode to display menu items. Let us know if you have any more questions.
could you be more specific please?
Hi rgegeo, there are several ways to do this but the first one that comes to mind is to create two pages, one for menu and then use a separate menu shortcode on each page.
Each shortcode can pull specific menu items. See our demo for a live preview. Here is a menu that is just breakfast. http://demo.themovation.com/eatery/menu/breakfast-menu/
You could also have one page with two different headings Menu #1 then Menu #2. It really comes down to how you want to lay it out. I hope this has been helpful. Cheers.
How about the Menu’s headings (starters, main courses, deserts,,,etc)?
I have recently purchased the ‘Eatery’ template. All is good except there is a problem with the gallery. When I upload the photos I get an error message but the photo is still uploaded. The gallery page is then displayed but when I click any photo i get an error message again that says “Image cannot be loaded. Make sure the path is correct and image exists.”
please advise
Hi andyclear! Thanks for contacting us. We would love to help you. Can you please message us through our author profile page (http://bit.ly/10b51CH) and send us a link to your website?
We’ll make sure to answer your questions asap.
I’m currently building a site with this theme that the client purchased, and she has no idea where the documentation is. Is this something I can get a hold of? She is fairly confused as doesn’t know where to track it down.
Site is here….. http://www.palucatrattoria.com/wp/Hi Pantone204, thanks for contacting us. Yes you can find the documentation inside the theme zip file. It’s placed in a subfolder called /documentation. I hope that helps. Cheers!
She just sent me the template part zipped, not any of the other folders.
Awesome, thank you!
I noticed an odd feature of the pricing. When the initial description is set along with the price, the price appears on the right. But if a second pricing option is added, it appears before the actual description. Most menus show the additional pricing options after the main description and price, is there a way to do this with the them? It just looks odd the way it is now, see Trattoria Salad…
http://www.palucatrattoria.com/wp/?page_id=2Hi pantone204, the best option for this would be adding the price to the description or excerpt. This would allow you to place the secondary price below the main description. I think this would give you the results you are looking for. I hope this has been helpful.
Remember you can use some html in the excerpt, e.g.
for a new line.Could someone tell me how to change the link hover states? Currently it’s a black box over the links and I want just a color change or something not as bold. I couldn’t find the hover state in the css though. Thanks.
Hi siqve006, try adding this to the custom CSS under theme options and play around with the colors to suit your style.
h1 a:hover, h2 a:hover, h3 a:hover, h4 a:hover, h5 a:hover, h6 a:hover, p a:hover, #older-posts a:hover, #newer-posts a:hover { background-color: #1d1d1d; color: #ffffff; }that did it! thanks.
My static homepage has the page title Home on the top of it and I feel it is redundant. Is there a way to remove the Home header on the main page, but keep it as a navigation title on my menu?
I know how to use display: none; in css to hide headers for pages, but I don’t want that empty space on the top of my homepage content.
body.home h1.page-title, body.home hr.headings {display:none;}Alternatively, you could title the page something other than “home” which would change the title to that, and then you could edit the navigation link so that it still says home on the nav. Using the WordPress menu system you can rename any link to anything you like, and it will only affect the menu. You just have to go to the menu screen and click the down arrow on the link you want to change, and the label field appears. Cheers!
In the Theme settings under social media icons, when I type in the email address beside the email link and then test it on my page, I get this error:
The page you tried to access does not exist on this server. This page may not exist due to the following reasons:
You are the owner of this web site and you have not uploaded (or incorrectly uploaded) your web site. Hi siqve006, email links require a prefix so that the browser knows it’s an email rather than a URL. You just need to format it like this instead: mailto:myemail@mydomain.com
great. How would I link the phone icon then?
Hi siqve006, it’s designed so you can add a link to your contact page. So you would enter http://yourcontactpage.html
hi, im having trouble inserting a gallery into one of my pages. Ill upload the images and then insert the gallery, and the thumbnails show but when you click to enlarge, this message pops up… “Image cannot be loaded. Make sure the path is correct and image exist.”
please advise,
Thank You.
Hi bkraysler, thanks for contacting us.
We make use of the built-in WordPress gallery shortcode in our theme, and it changed a bit in WordPress 3.5, so one thing to note is when you make a gallery, after you select the photos, you have to change the link to point to the Media File rather than the Attachment Page, which is the WP default. That should definitely sort out your issue.
thanks!!!
