Hey Onioneye,

Thanks for the quick response. I bought the theme about a month ago, I’m pretty sure it’s up to date. The categories I’m talking about are the ones displayed under the portfolio preview images, but I was hoping to also include them in a drop down menu. I’m probably missing something simple, I just haven’t been able to put my finger on it. Anything you can tell me to help me out would be very appreciated.

Thanks

onioneye

Hey there,

you are very much welcome. The portfolio items are filtering properly on my local machine, and on the demo site, so my best advice for you is to ditch the current theme folder, if you haven’t modified any code, and install a fresh copy of the theme, which you can download from ThemeForest.

Sincerely,

OnionEye

Hi again OnionEye,

I just replaced the theme with a fresh copy and I am still having the same problem. Maybe I’m missing a step, I’ve created the portfolio category i.e. illustrations, photo editing etc, and assigned it to particular portfolio items that apply to that category. Is there anything else I should be doing to get the filter to work?

onioneye

Hey there,

Can you please check if there is a taxonomy.php file in the theme’s root folder? Also, please try temporarily disabling your plugins to see if that works.

By the way, please respond to your own threads. It makes it easier for me, and for other people, to keep track of the comments. You can do that by hitting the reply button, found at the end of the first comment in the thread.

Sincerely,

OnionEye

Very interested in this theme. Is it possible to disable everything below the words “A nice looking headline telling something about you & your work.” on the home page. I want a very simple home page and this is similar to what im looking for. Is this possible?

onioneye

Hey there,

thanks for taking an interest in the Echo theme. :)

This is your lucky day. You have two options in the Theme Options panel, for disabling both the “Latest Projects” and the “Latest Articles” sections on the homepage, so you don’t have to touch a single line of code to achieve this.

Best of luck whatever you decide to do!

Hi Onioneye!!

Love the theme!

I am trying to space out my menu items with CSS . I have figured out how to do this but what I really need to get exactly what I want is to space them separately, and I am having trouble doing so. Basically I want to center my menu items but need to space the two in the center more than the rest because they surround the logo. Can you help me?!

THANKS !

onioneye

Hey there,

glad you love the theme! Thanks for buying it! :)

Please have a look at the source code to see what id’s WordPress gives out to the menu’s li elements. Once you do that, you can use those id’s for styling the specific menu items with CSS .

Sincerely,

OnionEye

Quick question: I want to make sure you can have multiple portfolios in this? Looks like it from the demo, but I want to confirm. I need to have a unique landing page/grid for each category.

Also, I’m seeing something strange when I hover over the different options in the pull-down. My window will occasionally flicker black for a second. I’m in Chrome—just wondering if you’ve seen that?

Thanks—great theme!

onioneye

you are welcome! Glad you hear you are excited about your new site! :)

BTW , in case anyone digs deep enough in this looking for an answer to how to change “my_portfolio” in the permalink/address, you change the line OnionEye mentions to:

‘rewrite’ => array( ‘slug’ => ‘portfolio’ ),

And done!

Excellent. Thanks for the info on the multiple portfolios. Sounds great.

I actually was viewing the site with the frame off, and just tried again. The black flicker is still happening. Just when moving from one hover state to another in the portfolio pull down menu. Does it have something to do with the enlarging rollovers?

onioneye

Yep, definitely seems like a small chromum bug on a mac with CSS3 transforms and transitions.

I investigated a bit, and found out that chromium sometimes has quite some issues with flickering on a mac:

Oh, and by the way, you are very much welcome. I try my best to answer as quick as possible. :)

Thanks for the info. One last question: is there a Template for a regular page? It’s not listed in your features. Not a full-width, but just a page of text with a sidebar?

Thanks!

onioneye

You are very much welcome! :)

You don’t need any templates for that. Just save the page, without assigning any templates to it, and you should be fine.

hi onioneye,

love the theme.

i am making a portfolio site that requires the work to be sorted into categories. for example, i have a main nav title called “work” and under “work” i have “reliefs,” “figures,” “etc.” when i click on reliefs, i would like only the reliefs to show.

advice?

onioneye

So it works on one site, but not on the other. Please try emptying your trash, in case this has been causing some sort of a conflict in the theme. Also, try resetting the permalinks to see if that works.

Default-user

I finally figured it out! Basically, under the menu I had categories created and designated to each portfolio piece. The problem was that I did not drag the actual portfolio cateogories onto the menu, I had the pages instead. This problem is has been resolved!

But, I have one final question! Is there a way to make “About” in the menu of this page unclickable so only sub categories on the menu are clickable? http://www.copskey.com/

onioneye

Hey there,

glad you solved your issue! Congrats! :)

As far as you question is concerned, just make a custom link under the menus tab, with a label of “About” and a href value of ”#.” Once you are done with that, just replace the original “About” link, with the new one, that you just made, and you should be good to go. :)

Best of luck,

OnionEye

I am pretty sure I have done this, but it doesn’t seem to be working. Also, when I click on a portfolio item it is blinking furiously and doesn’t go to the next page. I can send you a screen recording if you’d like to see. Do you have an email that I can send to?

onioneye

Hey,

you don’t need to send the screencast. Please provide me with a link to your site, so I can check it out by myself.

By the way, please respond to your own threads. It makes it easier for me, and for other people, to keep track of the comments. You can do that by hitting the reply button, found at the end of the first comment in the thread.

Hi! I’m also having trouble getting a child theme to work. I saw whoaitsaimz post.

I’m getting:

Warning: require_once(/XXX/wordpress/wp-content/themes/hazen/admin/admin-functions.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /XXX/wordpress/wp-content/themes/echo/functions.php on line 221

Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required ’/XXX/wordpress/wp-content/themes/hazen/admin/admin-functions.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/local/php5/lib/php’) in /XXX/wordpress/wp-content/themes/echo/functions.php on line 221

Any idea what the problem is?

Thanks!

Hello. I’m really liking the theme. However, I have seen many people ask the question about portfolio images not resizing properly. I, too, am having this issue. I have changed all of my permissions and checked and double-checked that I had done everything correctly. Here is a link to the page in question:

http://atelierjfk.com/?my_portfolio=wc

Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jason

Default-user

I deleted the “9999” part of the code and it seems to be working.

But I have found another issue: “Fourth Portfolio Image” doesn’t work. The image doesn’t show in any post.

Thank You.

Default-user

There is a typo in line 72 of functions.php

It reads “forth” when it should read “fourth.”

So that fixed the problem of the fourth image not showing up.

onioneye

Wow, congrats on making the whole thing work completely by yourself! I sincerely doubt that even I, who made the theme, would be able to do it so fast.

It seems that the value of “9999” is sometimes a problem. The timthumb script should automatically adjust the height, but it unfortunately doesn’t, on some servers. Did you just remove the mentioned value from the arguments string, and left the height variable empty (“h=”)?

I’m going to update the theme straight away, so anyone else doesn’t experience the same problems in the future.

Thanks a lot! :)

Hello Onion Eye, Your theme and help so far have been ace- thank you…

I would like to know how to add borders to the featured images in my portfolio?

Thanks again

onioneye

Hey there,

you are very much welcome! Glad you like my theme and my support! :)

As far as the borders of the featured images are concerned, adding one to the following CSS selector should work:

#single-item img {}

Sincerely,

OnionEye

Hello Again,

I need captions under my images in the portfolio section, and it didn’t work when I entered it in the Caption field. Any thoughts?

Thanks again.

onioneye

Hey there,

the captions are never displayed under the images in the single portfolio item view. Well, at least not out of the box. You are going to have to modify the “single-my_portfolio” file, found in the theme’s root directory, to achieve this.

Sincerely,

OnionEye

Hello! Love them theme! I am using the portfolio function to display events. I was easily able to re-title “latest projects” to “latest events” in theme options but I am having trouble changing the links to say “view project” vs. “view event”. I’m assuming I have to change the CSS but am having trouble. PLEASE HELP !

THANKS !

onioneye

Hey,

glad you love the theme! Thanks a lot for buying it! :)

You can modify the mentioned text in the following files:

  • landing-page-template
  • portfolio-1-col-with-sidebar
  • portfolio-2-cols-with-sidebar
  • portfolio-3-cols-no-sidebar
  • portfolio-4-cols-no-sidebar
  • portfolio-4-cols-with-sidebar

Good luck! :)

Sincerely,

hi onioneye:

i’m loving the theme, but have another question:

when i click on a portfolio thumbnail, the image pops up and blinks several times. see here: http://www.copskey.com/portfolio_categories/portraits/

i tested the theme through a different url and it works perfectly. i’d like for my thumbnail to load onto its own page on the click like it does here: http://noelcunningham.me/my_portfolio/figurative-7/

advice? thanks so much for your time. noel

onioneye

Hey,

glad it worked! :)

The portfolio images are not made to be included like you are including them (via the content editor). If you want to change that, you are going to have to modify the PHP code in the single-my_portfolio.php file, found in the theme’s root directory.

Sincerely,

OnionEye

i’d like to have a single photo on the left hand side of the page like so: http://noelcunningham.me/my_portfolio/portrait-30/ currently it is on the left (see this one that is wrong): http://www.copskey.com/my_portfolio/self-portrait-2/
onioneye

Hey Noel,

the left column is reserved for the description of the portfolio item, while the right one is reserved for media such as videos and images, so you are going to have to modify the code a bit, just like I said in my previous comment.

Good luck! :)

Sincerely,

OnionEye

I have two questions regarding the recent posts that get pulled into the homepage.

1.) Is there a way that I can have it pull in the feature image kind of like the portfolio items?

2.) Can I have it only pull in posts under a certain category?

onioneye

Hey there,

both of these are possible, but you would have to modify the code in the landing-page-template.php file, found in the theme’s root directory, to achieve them.

Happy New Year, by the way! :)

Figured it out, thanks. Is there a way to open the social icons in a new tab? In the footer.php script it just has <?php of_social_networks(); ?> where is the actual of_social_networks function?

nevermind. found it. admin/theme-functions.php

Hello, I am finally getting around to getting this up and I am having trouble with the logo…

Warning: getimagesize() [function.getimagesize]: URL file-access is disabled in the server configuration in /home/test/public_html/wp-content/themes/echo/admin/theme-functions.php on line 717

onioneye

Hey there,

thanks for buying the theme! Appreciate it! :)

As far as your problem goes, it is definitely due to your server’s configuration. Please contact your host and kindly ask them to turn the “allow_url_fopen” flag on. In case they say no, you’re going to have to do it the following way:

Open up your theme-functions.php file in the /wp-content/themes/echo/admin/ folder, and follow the instructions found on this page: http://dropdo.com/3gq/logo. Once you have finished editing the file, save it, upload the logo, and it should work.

OnionEye

hi onioneye,

everything seems to working great, except that my portfolio categories have stopped working and i haven’t been able to figure out why. they no longer sort the work based on the category, they just show everything all at once for every category.

i have portfolio categories assigned to both the portfolio images and the menu. what else could be causing this to malfunction?

thanks! noel

No luck. What should I try next? I think that this error may have occurred when I updated Wordpress.

onioneye

Hey,

the theme works perfectly in the newest version of WordPress, but it’s possible that something got messed up during that update. Please try deleting all the categories, and making them again. Once you do that, try assigning them to a few portfolio items, to see if the filtering works.

Sincerely,

OnionEye

Looking at purchasing this theme…very nice btw. I would want to turn off the slider on the home page though. Possible?

onioneye

Hey there,

thanks for taking an interest in the theme! :)

It’s definitely possible to turn off the slider on the homepage. You have an option for that in the Theme Options panel.

Have lots of fun working with the theme, if you end up buying it! :)

Hey Onion Eye, I would like to try having a slightly different background for the different pages…Ive tried using plugin but it only changes the background for certain parts of the page…

Is this something you can advise on? Im a relatively newbie but willing to get stuck into code -)

Thanks

Hey there,

Quite honestly, it seems really odd that all of the calendar plugins mess up the styles of the theme. Can you give me the names of the ones you tested?

Hey OE… So I found one that works completely whilst offering me all I need- most appropriately called Events Made Easy. The ones that didnt seem to work properly for me are: The Events Calender 2.0.3 Event Calender 3 Events Manager Events Calender

So no worries there- Events Made Easy is all good.

However- I have yet another Question- how would I show the Portfolio categories in the sidebar of the portfolio? At the moment it just gives me the blog categories.. Big thanks

onioneye

Hey there,

glad the mentioned plugin is working for you. :)

As far as your question is concerned, try looking for a plugin/widget that is in charge of displaying the categories defined in the custom taxonomy.

Sincerely,

OnionEye

Thank you for the beautiful design. Is it possible to have more than 10 images per portfolio? I couldn’t find documentation for adding more images. Thanks for your help!

onioneye

Hey there,

glad you find the theme beautiful! :)

sorry for the inconvenience this might cause you, but you need to login with the account, with which you bought the theme, and send me an email via the contact form on my profile page, or post your question here, if you want support.

Thank you for your understanding. :)

By the way, are you sure you are not on the wrong forum? It seems to me that you are talking about one of my other themes, and not Echo.
