Thanks, the struggle we had was the way custom.php was dynamically written from the options – over-riding any changes we made.. Get it now, and understand the way the CSS box in the options works, so all good.

Our other problem is the main menu appears to have no styling attached to it…?

It’s in no way like the demo menu, image:

Glad you hear that you were able to customize the way CSS is written to the custom.php file.

As far as the custom menu is concerned, you’re not making it properly. This is explained in the docs, but you can also follow this link to learn how to make it right: http://codex.wordpress.org/Appearance_Menus_Screen#Add_Menu_Items

Have a great day!

I love the design of echo, and can’t find anything comparable, but I cannot get it working. When I try to install it I get the following:

Theme installed successfully.

Warning: fopen(/home/kellyw/public_html/wp-content/themes/echo-clean-and-simple-wordpress-portfolio-theme/style.css) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/kellyw/public_html/wp-includes/functions.php on line 4284

Warning: fclose(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /home/kellyw/public_html/wp-includes/functions.phpon line 4290

Then when I try to activate it, I’m told the theme is broken. I even tried starting fresh with WP 3 .1, rather than the latest version of WP in case there was a compatibility issue.

Suggestions?

Thank you.

Broken Themes

The following themes are installed but incomplete. Themes must have a stylesheet and a template.

Name Description echo-clean-and-simple-wordpress-portfolio-theme Stylesheet is missing.

onioneye

The theme has been updated several hours ago, so it’s possible that you bought it at the same time the files were updated, somehow making your download incomplete. Please delete the current files and download the theme again. After that is done, install it the same way you did before, and you shouldn’t experience any more problems. ;)

I downloaded a fresh copy of echo, deleted old files, tried to install the fresh one and got:

This is probably happening because of a bad server configuration. Please contact your host straight away, and tell them the exact errors that are appearing on your website, when you install the theme.

By the way, which version of php are you running?

P.S. If it’s not too big of a problem, can you please respond to your own comments, instead of posting new ones down the page? It’s easier for me to keep track of them that way.

Default-user

PS I ’m rather desperate to get this up and going. I need it for professional use and a delay may make a real difference. I would go with something else, but I really like this theme. I hope we can get this resolved very soon.

onioneye

I’m glad to hear that you really like the theme, and we’ll get this sorted out ASAP . :)

Please erase the old files on your server, and download the latest ones because it seems that the files uploaded to ThemeForest weren’t uploaded fully, thus giving you the error that a style sheet is missing. That’s all fixed now, so please install the new files.

P.S. if you experience any more php errors, that means that your server is badly configured, and that your php version is maybe not up to date.

fyi, I’m uploading it as a zipped folder as per the instructions of the interface. Is that a mistake?

onioneye

Nope. That’s the way you should be doing it. It’s just that your server is badly configured. I have answered your question more closely above.

Default-user

The new files mentioned a couple posts below return this when installed: Unpacking the package…

OK, I think I got this figured out. It might have just been an upload or an unzipping error. Try manually uploading the theme. Unzip it locally and use ftp to upload the unzipped folder to /wp-content/themes/ directory.

Default-user

As far as I can tell, using Hostgator’s ftp program I have to upload each file individually. That’s going to be both time-consuming and prone to error. Do you expect to fix the problem soon? Since we’re each uploading to our own provider, I assume the unzipping problem is with echo, no? If the problem lies elsewhere, I’ll take it up with them.

onioneye

Nope, pretty sure it’s not a problem with the echo theme. I had it installed in three different WordPress installations and didn’t get any errors. I also asked one of my clients if he experienced any difficulties when uploading the theme using the theme upload method, and he didn’t report any problems.

By the way, you don’t have to use the Hostgator’s ftp program to upload the theme files to the server. You can use an ftp client like FilleZilla to upload all of the files at once. :)

Default-user

Okay, I got it sorted out. I am, however, disappointed that it took so much work and time. But I am looking forward to working with the great layout!

onioneye

I fully understand you. I would also be disappointed if it took me so much time just to upload the theme, but once again, the zip upload method works in all of the installations I’ve tried so far, so it must be up to your WP installation. Anyway, I’m glad you sorted the upload issue out, and that you finally got things going in the right way! :)

Default-user

You were right that it was at least in part a Hostgator problem, which I got them to fix.

Unfortunately, I think I may be too much of a newbie to use this theme. The layout I love so much is the one that you show in the preview. I had made the assumption that that would be the default look out of the box, and it would be clear to me how to populate it with my content—or if it is, that I would understand it. I’ve spent a couple of hours trying to get it to look like the example and I am no closer. I’m generally technically savvy, but not a programmer.

Anyway, is there something terribly obvious that I’m missing? I know that’s a vague question, but after poking and prodding and trying everything that I could think of, I’m not even sure of a specific question to ask.

I am installing the theme and it keeps giving me an error that the stylesheet is missing. I just downloaded it again and installed it again and it said the same thing. Any suggestions please?

onioneye

I updated the theme last night, as well as the demo site, so it seems that the files were incompletely uploaded to ThemeForest. Hold on for two to three hours or so, and download the theme again. I’m going to re-upload it straight away.

onioneye

OK, ThemeForest’s reviewers updated the download files about a minute ago, so please try to download the theme and install it again.

onioneye

Update: it seem that this hasn’t got anything to do with ThemeForest not uploading the files completely. It’s rather an upload or an unzipping error. Try manually uploading the theme instead. Unzip the folder with the theme files locally and use ftp to upload the unzipped folder to /wp-content/themes/ directory.

This goes out for anyone who has used this theme and might be able to help me. Onioneye has tried to fix it but I’m not sure I’m understanding the issue I’m having and he’s got other things on his plate.

http://blog.brandonhillphotos.com/portfolio_categories/lifestyle/

Does anyone else have this problem? I’m organizing my work in portfolio categories like the demo suggests, but whenever i click on categories in my menu OR categories below the work, i just get fed ALL of the categories. There seems to be no separation going on like the demo.

Moreover, when i click “Lifestyle”, i want it to filter just Lifestyle. When i click “Book Photography”, I want it to filter just Book Photography. I’ve had other WP devs look at this and they don’t understand how to fix it either so I’m hoping someone out there has figured this out.

Much appreciated.

onioneye

You should note that this is not a bug. It’s just that the theme hasn’t been configured to contain multiple portfolios, but since a lot of people would like to have this feature, I’m going to make this work in one of the future updates, as soon as my co-worker and I get this working in one of the two new themes.

That being said, if anyone managed to customize the theme for multiple portfolios to work, please post the temporary solution here, so Brandon can get this setup on his installation as well.

Thank you! :)

Is there a way to use the google font directory with this theme?

Sure. If you want to extend on the fonts already available to you in the options panel, you can use a plugin like this one http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/fontific/ to embed google fonts on your web site. :)

Hi Onioneye,

I absolutely love echo, congrats on a beautiful theme. :)

I’m wondering if there is any way to have the portfolio thumbnails link to a blog post? Currently when clicked, they send the user to a pop up gallery. Is there an easy way to change this?

Let me know!

onioneye

Hi there!

It’s great to see a satisfied customer! :) I’m really glad you’re having an enjoyable time with the theme.

If you’re, for example, using a custom template like “4 Columns No Sidebar” to layout the portfolio items/posts, you need to find the correspondent file named “portfolio-4-cols-no-sidebar.php” in the /wp-content/themes/echo/ directory and change the href attributes of the links that wrap the portfolio thumbnails (img elements). The links are generated dynamically, so you would have to know a bit of php to modify them properly.

I hope this helps. :)

Sincerely,

Onioneye

Replying here so we can keep this in one thread. :)

Do I have to modify them manually every time I want to add a new portfolio item (and link it to the blog post)? Is there a way to dynamically have them pull the blog post? Am I making sense? :)

Basically I want to use the portfolio template (4-cols-no-sidebar) as a “gallery” for the blog. Something like this:

http://benjhaisch.com/blog/

Would you be able to modify the code to do something like that?

Thanks again for your help!

Hi there, Any info about adding video to the homepage slider? Haven’t seen any discussion about it yet. Thanks much.

onioneye

Hello there!

You can easily add a video to the slider by using an embed shortcode in the WordPress content editor, when making a new slider post. Here’s an example of a code that adds a video to the slide that is 700 pixels wide, and 350 pixels high.

[embed width="700" height="350"]http://vimeo.com/12622016[/embed]

Does anyone out there who has purchased this know how to change the color of the Slider box border?

Mine is currently white but I can’t figure out if it’s changeable in settings or the code.

Look in the style.css file, under the “S L I D E R ” section. You have all the styles related to the slider defined there. ;)

Hi, just bought this theme tonight, but am seeing errors in the header, just above where my logo image does appear:

Warning: Getimagesize() [ Function.Getimagesize ]: URL File-Access Is Disabled In The Server Configuration In /Homepages/15/D251049105/Htdocs/Wp-Content/Themes/Echo/Admin/Theme-Functions.Php On Line 717

I tried installing the theme from the zip. I then deleted it and tried installing the echo folder into my themes folder on my server through FTP , but that didn’t correct it.

onioneye

Hello there!

Thanks for buying the theme! :)

As far as your problem goes, please contact your host and tell them to enable the URL File-Access in your server configuration.

BTW , which PHP version are you running?

Kind regards,

Onioneye

Default-user

Global PHP Version was set to PHP 4 . I just changed it to PHP 5 . Should I email my host’s tech support asking that they enable URL file access? I’m a total novice when it comes to server management.

Is there some file they need to add to my shared server location’s directory?

onioneye

Just contact your host and ask them to enable URL file access. That’s all you need to do. :)

Evanwiener – do you have code that was added at the end of the url of the Custom Logo? I was getting the same error. I got around it by removing the extra code in that field. See if that fixes is. If so you’ll have to do that until it’s corrected in an update. If that doesn’t, OnionEye will help.

onioneye

Nope, his error happens because of a bad server configuration, or an outdated version of PHP . You were getting a 400 Bad Request Error, which is specific to your WP installation, as nobody reported getting the same error, and that includes me as well. I tested it on several different servers, and the same, or a similar error didn’t occur. :)

Hey onion, this is a great theme. thanks!

One question, I installed the jQuery Colorbox plugin to enlarge the pics at my website, but it seems that it’s not enlarging the portfolio’s featured image (at single-my_portfolio.php). Do you know what should I do to enlarge the featured image?

thanks,

onioneye

Hi there!

Glad to hear you like the theme so much! :)

I’m not quite sure why the plugin is not working on enlarging the featured images in the single portfolio item view because I have never used that plugin, so I can’t help you. However, if you have any questions related to the theme files, feel free to ask, and I’ll answer them ASAP . :)

Sincerely,

Onioneye

Default-user

Hi there, thanks for the super quick reply. ;)

Well, what I need to do is to enlarge the portfolio’s featured image as well the others (second, third, etc) with any plugin like the jQuery colorbox, photo lightbox or similar. What do you recommend me to do since this one is not working properly – weird because I’ve used this plugin in some other wp projects and it worked just fine. Is your theme more friendly with any other photo enlargement plugin?

thanks a lot,

Default-user

BTW i just tested 2 other plugins and the same happens: It enlarges only pictures that I uploaded to a blog post, but via wp gallery thumbnails. If i upload a picture to a post and insert it into the post normally, it does not enlarge, as well the featured image at the portfolio post.

I would need some help from you on this, asap if possible. kind regards,

onioneye

Well, if you had noticed by now, the theme uses the prettyPhoto plugin to handle the enlargement of images, so you can try using the same thing for other images as well.

If some other plugins are not working on a particular image, it is possible that the reason for that is that the image is already displayed in full width, and some, if not all, images in the single portfolio view, fall in that category. This just might be your problem, but it is also possible that you’re not configuring your plugin well to work with those images.

Default-user

hmm not really Onioneye.. I have pictures at the blog, with the size smaller than the original, and they’re not being enlarged either.. I’ll send you an email reporting my problem, sounds good? Best,

Default-user

Hi I tryed to send you an email but the envato system didn’t let me to.

So this is what I’m trying to do:

1) Enlarge pics at the blog:

a) If they’re a in a thumb-gallery format, they enlarge but showing the full image at the browser (and not by prettyphoto. You can see it happening here: http://pinzon17.com.br/escudero/2011/05/26/chapel-hill-north-carolina/

b) If they’re attached at the post, they simply does not enlarge (see it: http://pinzon17.com.br/escudero/2011/05/26/escudero/

2) Enlarge at the single-portfolio.php:

a) They simply does not enlarge http://pinzon17.com.br/escudero/my_portfolio/escudero-sport-2/

btw the prettyphoto settings at the theme menu are fine. It’s not disabled.

onioneye

I just don’t see how I can help you with this, when you’re using a third-party plugin that didn’t came with this theme. Besides that, pretty photo is only made to work on portfolio item thumbnails, and if you want to customize it to work on other items as well, you’re going to have to know a bit about that plugin, and how to customize the HTML for it to work properly.

P.S. If you can’t send me an email through the contact form on my page, try sending it through your email client on the following address: zlatan@onioneye.com

I’m using the portfolio section on my website so show profiles of a group’s members – On the portfolio page, is there a way of changing where it says “View Project” to “View Profile”?

Thanks!

Hi!

Thanks for buying the theme! I hope you like it! :)

The text you mention can be modified by changing a single line of code in one of the custom page templates (3 Columns No Sidebar, 4 Columns No Sidebar etc.). Which one do you use?

I’m using the 4 Columns No Sidebar template :)

Great. Open up the portfolio-4-cols-no-sidebar.php file in the /wp-content/themes/echo/ directory and modify the text where it says “View Project” to whatever text you want. :)

When adding to my blog posts, I keep having issues with the double-bar invading the images.

See sample post:

http://blog.brandonhillphotos.com/2011/05/lily/

The divider or border or whatever they’re referred to goes through my second image. On another post it’s going through my first image. How do I deal with them? Additionally they stop the hyperlinked image to not work below them.

I am just creating a blog post like normal and haven’t messed with any code, but i keep running into this issue. Is this a bug? How can I get rid of them entirely or keep this from happening?

Thanks

onioneye

This is definitely not a normal behavior, and I haven’t seen it happen anywhere in any installation of the echo theme. If you want to get rid of it, just enter the following code in your custom CSS field:

.share-this { border-top: none; }
.share-this:before { background: none; }

Hey Onioneye,

Thanks again for all your help so far! One quick question—I’ve searched through the style.css for the image border/padding settings and can’t seem to find them. I’d like to remove the padding between images in blog posts (or make it very small). Where in the style.css file (or elsewhere) do I need to look for this?

Thanks!

onioneye

The image borders are generated dynamically on the server side and outputted in the custom.php file, where all the custom CSS is kept. You can find the desired declarations there, and enter your own CSS in the custom CSS option to override those styles. :)

Default-user
ralzaben Purchased

Thanks for the quick reply! I was able to remove the borders, but the image padding is still there. I tried adding this to the custom css, and it didn’t work (tried adding it to the style.css file as well just for fun :)):

p img { padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px;}

What am I missing here? Thanks again!

onioneye

There isn’t any padding applied directly to the images, so I’m not quite sure what you’re talking about. Can I get a link to your site, so I can figure it out by myself? :)
