Hello,

Great job on the theme, i love the design and layout.

Here is what i need help with:

When I add a new portfolio item and i choose the 1 column layout, i see a place where you need to place the thumbnail. But what i don’t see is a place to put the full image of that thumbnail, so once you click on it, it opens up in a light-box.

How do i do that?

Hello Uni,

I purchased the new theme. Thank you.

I am not able to install the theme and I did a fresh install of wordpress and updated it and the default theme works fine. I downloaded Edge a couple of times and tried to reinstall it several times. I received a couple of errors.

Upon installation:

Installing Theme from uploaded file: edge-professional-corporate-and-portfolio-wp-1.zip Unpacking the package…

Installing the theme…

Theme installed successfully.

Upon removal of the Edge theme the following residual message remained:

The following themes are installed but incomplete. Themes must have a stylesheet and a template.

I am excited to check out the map functionality sppn.

Thanks!

Hi Francis, thanks for purchasing, I hope you enjoy the theme.

Those errors usually occur when you install the theme using the exact unaltered zip file you download from themeforest which installs the theme in a sub-folder resulting in those errors. The proper install procedure is explained in the provided documentation but since you provided me with admin login to your WordPress install, I installed the theme for you :)

Hi,

Just got the new theme and am looking forward to putting it to good use.

First thing I noticed when switching a site from Breeze to Edge was the buttons. Seems there’s a problem with size=”big”. Also, I wish the font used for the text wasn’t different from the selected Cufon. The smaller italicized style really isn’t good for usability.

Thanks!

unisphere

Hey buddy, thanks for purchasing the theme, hope you like it.

Edge only has one size for the buttons so the size=”big” won’t have any different effect, but at the same time should look exactly like the normal buttons – could you post a link to a page having one of those buttons so that I can take a look? Also, try removing the size=”big” attribute since in Edge it doesn’t do anything.

Regarding having the font used for text also in Cufon, I highly advise against that since Cufon is a javascript solution and having all the text using it would cause the site to load very very slow and most probably would crash the visitor’s browser.

Hi, I already stopped using size=”big” and it’s just fine. Before, however, it would appear as a default font (12px?) with no button background, but the text was highlighted in the bgcolor. If this is how it’s going to be, I’d suggest removing the shortcode parameter from the demo site documentation.

Thanks!

unisphere

Hi, thanks for the heads up, already removed that parameter from the demo site, it was clearly a copy/paste error.

Thanks again, best regards

Hi again,

Regarding the Edge subheader, is there a way to use a Cufon font instead of an aliased font? Or maybe use a featured image for the subheader like in Breeze?

Thanks

unisphere

Hi, to set the sub-header font as a Cufon font edit the file screen.js and replace the following line:

Cufon.replace('h1:not(.small,.medium,.large), h2, h3, h4, h5, h6, .nav > li > a, .portfolio-1-column-list .portfolio-title, .portfolio-4-columns-list .portfolio-title a, .portfolio-browse, .post-title, .testimonial-meta .testimonial-person, .bar-info-box span', { hover: true });

with:

Cufon.replace('h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6, .nav > li > a, .portfolio-1-column-list .portfolio-title, .portfolio-4-columns-list .portfolio-title a, .portfolio-browse, .post-title, .testimonial-meta .testimonial-person, .bar-info-box span', { hover: true });

Also add the following code to the Custom CSS field in the Edge admin panel in order to position the new font properly (you may need adjustments in this code depending on the Cufon font you are using, this code works perfectly for Droid Sans though):

#sub-header h1 { bottom: -26px; }
#sub-header h1.medium { bottom: -22px; }
#sub-header h1.large { bottom: -21px; }

Ahhh, much better. But I’m unclear where the font’s styling is now coming from. I’d like to change the size, spacing. Or are these set automatically based on the length of the subtitle?

Thanks!

unisphere

Hi, the theme adds 3 css classes depending on the length of the sub-header title: small, medium and large. To change the styling of the sub-header font, here are the default ones used by the theme, change them as you like – add the following code to the Custom CSS field in the Edge admin panel:

#sub-header h1 { font-family: Impact, sans-serif; text-transform: uppercase; font-size: 52px; font-style: normal; letter-spacing: 0.05em; }
#sub-header h1.medium { font-size: 42px; line-height: 21px }
#sub-header h1.large { font-size: 34px; line-height: 14px }

Please help everytime I try and ad the theme, once I click activate in the wordpress it gives me this: Fatal error: Call to undefined function flush_rewrite_rules() in /home/crimmins/public_html/crimminsconstruction.com/wp-content/themes/edge/library/post-types.php on line 75

I am only adding the edge folder to the ftp wp-contect/themes and it shows up fine as a theme option but once I activate it, it gives me the fatal error.

What am I missing?

Hello,

I purchased and installed the theme yesterday and I’m very happy with it. It’s great! But now I have the following problem: I’d like to change the list in the sidebar (e.g. font-size, font-color or cufon fonts for the menu list etc.) But I just can’t find where to configure this. Could you help me? Is there a possibility to change the fonts in the sidebar widgets?

Thank you very much!

unisphere

Hi, add the following code to the Custom CSS field in the Edge admin panel and make the change you want to the font-size and color:

/* This is the sidebar widget title size and color */
.widget h3 { font-size: 14px; color: #f00; }

/* This is the sidebar widget body text size and color */
.widget { font-size: 12px; color: #000; }

/* This is the sidebar widget links size and color */
.widget a { font-size: 12px; color: #00f; }

Thank you very much for yout help. Worked fine.

Now, I have just another question (sorry for that!): Is it possible to change the complete width (from header to footer) easily, so that in a 1024×768 resolution, there is still a little space at the left?

Thanks again!

unisphere

Hi, I’m afraid not since that would require a change to lots of files in the theme, not just CSS but also some PHP files regarding image sizes in order to compensate for the width change.

Hi, Awesome theme.

Just a quick question, probably completely missed it but are there any other skins apart from the light and dark one? and if not what is an easy way to edit them/create a new one?

Cheers

unisphere

Hi, in the Edge theme there are 2 skins, a light and a dark one. Each of these skins can have a main color and a link color defined in the admin panel by the use of two color pickers. If you want to have a completely different skin you can change either of the 2 provided skins and they can be found in the folder /css/skins/[LIGHT OR DARK ]/skin.php. You might get confused about the .PHP extension on the CSS file but don’t worry, it needed to be this way in order for the CSS to get the colors you choose in the admin panel. Inside that file you’ll see a bunch of PHP code at the beginning that you can ignore and several PHP echos throughout the theme that set the colors from a variable (you can safely delete these and hard-code your own colors like in any other CSS file but the color you choose in the admin panel won’t work anymore).

Hope this helps, best regards

How can I reduce the space between the box with the title of the page and the page content? And also the space between the content and the footer?

Thank you!

www.rainesdesign.com

unisphere

Hi, add the following code to the Custom CSS field in the Edge admin panel:

/* Space below the sub-header */
#sub-header-container { margin-bottom: 60px; }

/* Space above the footer widget container */
#footer-widgets-separator-container { margin-top: 90px; }

Reduce the values in the above code in order to reduce the spacing between the elements.

Hey man.

Something might be going on with the contact form. I cant seem to get it working? Any ideas?

Set the Contact page to the Contact Page template and put my email in edge settings, but no email is ever received.

unisphere

Hi, the theme uses the built-in WordPress mail function wp_mail() so the problem might be with WordPress or your web hosting (if you are running wordpress in your localhost machine chances are you don’t have an SMTP server to deliver email).

One test you can make to see if WordPress is sending email is to post an anonymous (logged out) comment in a post and check if you receive a new comment notification by email. If it doesn’t please contact your hosting and ask them if they need to do anything to enable email for your domain. If it does work, please post a link to your site so that I can take a look.

Best regards

Just tried to test it and failed, no email. I will contact my hosting provider. Thanks

Hi there,

The theme is absolutely beautiful! I had a quick question though: how can I make it so that in the header where the page links are, there are two different links and each one only displays posts from a certain category? In other words, how can I create category pages that display identically to how the normal blog does, and have its link in the header?

Thanks again for the awesome theme! Look forward to hearing from you, —Michael

unisphere

Hi Michael, you can create a WordPress custom menu by going to “Appearance > Menus” and set it as the header menu. In this custom WordPress menu you are able to customize the menu any way you want, create links to pages, categories, custom URLs, etc.

Give it a try by creating links to a category in your particular case.

dear unisphere! bought ur template 2 days ago, installed it and everything just works! stunning great work!! i have 2 things so far that i would like to fit my needs:

1. i chose the slider / recent posts / recent portfolio as my HOME …how can i make the distance between slider and rest of the content smaller? there is just too much space for me under the slider.

i saw the other post and tried to adjust content margin-top, but don’t wanna decrease the margin on every page for the content. i want it only on the HOME under my slider.

2. is there a way to post an article feature image without resizing it automatically to 710×150 px?...but to keep it in it’s original size / ratio…but still have it as a featuring article image with this little self generated thumbnail in the recent posts preview?

appreciate your help! jasmin

unisphere

Hi Jasmin, thanks for purchasing, hope you enjoy the theme :)

1) Add the following code to the Custom CSS field in the Edge admin panel and reduce the 70px value to decrease the margin below the home slider:

/* Margin below the home sliders */
#nivo-slider-container,
#stage-slider-container { margin-bottom: 70px; }

2) Edit the file template_home.php and replace the single occurrence of the following code:

echo unisphere_get_post_image("blog");

with:

echo unisphere_get_post_image("blog-format-image");

hi again…1. works perfect as i wrote before. unfortunately 2. doesn’t seem to work. if i change the .php as you wrote the image still resizes and also the recent post previews on the HOME shows this broken image picture again. so not sure this works. i overwrote the code again as it was originally and all works as before. not a big thing here! it would have been nice but if it doesn’t go…also no problem!

unisphere

Hi, the code I gave you should have resized the feature blog post image in the home page keeping its aspect ratio, I even tried it in my development installation. Did you also want the blog page posts list to have the image maintain the aspect ratio?

Could you email me admin access so that I can try and apply the change?

Hi,

How would you go about styling some select/option fields for the forms in this layout?

Thanks!

unisphere

Hi, try the following code in the Custom CSS field on the Edge admin panel:

select { padding: 12px 10px;  background-color: #eee; border: 0; color: #999; }

This puts the select field very close to the text input fields in terms of styling on the light skin, make changes if necessary.

Hi there,

How do I get the “leave a reply comment” box at the bottom of the pages off there? I am using full width pages. Thank you!

unisphere

Hi, you can disable comments on pages by editing a page and unchecking “Allow Comments” on the discussion panel. If you don’t see the “Discussion” panel it’s because WP 3 .1 hides it by default so look for the “Screen options” link at the top right and enable the “Discussion” panel, see screenshot: http://screencast.com/t/THBJCEFVs

Thank you for the help with the header menu/category pages! One last question: how can I edit the text where is says “Category Archives: [NAMEOFCATEGORY]” to just display the name of the category and also be the same text size as other page titles in are in that same space?

thanks so much for ur first help there! works perfect now! i wd like to have my footer in only 1 column that has the width of the 4 columns. so if u have the footer there in the widgets…that i have only 1 widget for the footer that takes all the width of what was split in 4 footer columns before. i hope u understand…i’m sorry my english is not so great and not the best in explaining.

unisphere

Hi, now I understand, add the following code to the Custom CSS field in the Edge admin panel:

#footer-widgets .footer-column { display: none; }
#footer-widgets .footer-column:first-child { display: block; width: 960px; }

Now make sure to add your widget to the first footer column since the other three will be hidden.

On my posts, the permalinks aren’t generating properly. Everything else is fine, but the posts.

I have my permalinks set to: /post-name

I would like my links to be: www.rainesdesign.com/web-design instead of www.rainesdesign.com/pg=1234. How can I fix this without messing up my posts?

I also updated the theme according to directions, but my control panel still says I need to update it.

Thank you again. This theme is fantastic!

unisphere

Hi, that seems to be a permalink problem, try the following permalink structure instead of the one you currently are using:

/%postname%/

Regarding the theme update notifier still saying you need to update, make sure that you’ve updated the file style.css, it’s this file that stores the version you are using and it should say version 1.1 after the update.
