Hi Pexeto, we’re thinking about using Wordpress and the Expression theme for our new website. I’ve got two quite important questions though:

- Is it possible to create a URL to a filtered gallery? To all photos with the “LANDSCAPE” tag for example?

- Is it possible to create a URL to a single photo inside a project?

Thanks in advance!

Niek

pexeto

Hi Niek,

Here are my answers:

- You can create a separate gallery page where you can select the Landscape category to be displayed only (it will take you just a few seconds to do it) and you can provide a link to that gallery page.
- By default the slider doesn’t generate different URLs for the images, but if you use a lightbox, you can link to the item (project) single page where you can provide a link to an image – here is an example.

This is an excellent theme with tone of customization, very good documentation and superb support.

Thank you for the great theme.

Hi again,

Some more questions – for the sliders: is it possible to control picture flow with arrow keys? And I wouldn’t mind the thumbnail bar to go if this interferes – currently arrows control thumbnail bar in a sort of erratic way (seems to jump full width back / forth).

Second – theme behaviour on iPhone is not too optimal when switching orientation between portrait and landscape. For portrait all is good, menu is neatly organised, fine and well. When going to landscape menu appears in a desktop-like fasion obstructing half the screen.

Saw the answer on password-protecting – good news. Would it be possible to password-protect sliders and other types of galleries too? Sorry if it sounds incoherent but I’m still trying to get to grips with WP distinction between gallery / portfolio / post notions – this is crazy complex.

PS. And I did buy another theme, only to come back here, so I think I’ll give it a try anyway.

Thanks!

pexeto

Hi,

Here are my answers:

1. By default the fullscreen slideshow is controlled by the thumbnails below, if controlling by arrow keys is important to you, you may consider using the gallery slider, which supports this functionality.
2. I have tested the theme on 2 different iPhones and the layout change always works very well for me. Does the “Menu” button hide for you and instead the standard menu layout is displayed? If yes, no one has reported this kind of behaviour so far, so if you can, you may consider testing from another iPhone as this may be related with something on phone or browser settings only.
3. You can apply password protection to any content inserted in the content of the page, but not to customly generated content by page templates. The sliders and advanced galleries are generated by page templates with PHP code – WordPress is not aware of this code and cannot password protect it, but the Quick Gallery is added in the content of the page/post and WordPress can apply password protection to it.

Oh, well, I’ll give it a try. I guess most of my gripes come from WordPress not being optimal platform for photo sharing. Anyways, the theme looks stunning!

Re 2 – yes, that’s exactly what happens on my iPhone (iPhone 5 with Safari). Instead of a drop-down list as in portrait we’re getting desktop-like row with labels. Actually two rows, as it spills-over. We’ll see if it’s the same with my lay-out (I’ll have less menu items probably) and I’ll log support request if needed. Also, I’d ask about randomization of the home page elements without “load-more”, but this is non-critical either.

Thanks again!

pexeto

Hi,

I have tested it with iPhone 3 and iPhone 4, but not with iPhone 5 (as I don’t have one) and I guess it may be happening on iPhone 5 because its screen is longer and its size is bigger than the minimum size we have set for the minimized menu display. Anyway, this can be very easily fixed – it requires just one line of modification.

Hi again,

OK, purchased the theme, got it initially set-up, now I need to refine it and do some tweaking / troubleshooting. I have about 8 questions, some being enhancement requests, some relating to translation quirks and one or two issues that are either with the theme, or with my Wordpress set-up. Perhaps you would know, I’ll be logging support request in a minute. For your reference, my site is fotomedia.pro.

Hi, I just brought the theme a few day ago. I was wondering there is an option to limit the max image size of either the gallery or the slideshow. Basically, all my images are at 1000×664 pixels and I don’t want the theme to scale up the images because it’s look uglier. As a photographer, it important to show case my portfolio as sharp as possible. A non-fullscreen slideshow option would be nice.

I really like this theme, have been looking for something like this. There’s only 2, 3 points that I want to check upon before I’m gonna buy it:

1) On the demo site, the galleries on the homepage show up really nice, but as far as I could see it’s always a gallery of galleries. Is there a way to display only the contents of one gallery, e.g. the thumbnails of single photos in a portfolio, in a clean and simple way (without image description or any other sort of text when hover over, etc.)?

2) Is there a way to click a gallery on the homepage and then have some sort of overview (thumbnails, e.g.) of the photos contained in this gallery? I like the slider view a lot, but because it has no (optional?) thumbnail view/preview of the other items in the gallery, it’s of little use to me.

Full-width quick galleries look nice, but then when you click on a photo there you end up in the Lightbox view, which in itself is really beautiful as well, but brings another question with it:

3) Is there a way to implement a share function for social sharing sites for single photos in the Lightbox view?

Well, those are the only things that prevented me from buying it immediately – it’s a beautiful theme, almost exactly what I imagined for my website. Kudos for that :)

pexeto

Hi,

Here are my answers:

1) Generally the thumbnail design you see on the demo is the default gallery thubnail design and there aren’t other thumbnail options included, however if you want to hide some parts of the info you can very easily hide them with one CSS line.

2) The gallery slider doesn’t provide a thumbnail bar, but the fullscreen slideshow pages do – so, if having a thumbnail bar is very important to you, you may consider linking the item in the gallery to a fullscreen slideshow page.

3) By default the lightbox used in the theme provides an option to include some sharing buttons in its initialization code, but I think that would be working on simple static pages where the images are embeded in the content of the page – I’m not really sure how this would be working with dynamically loaded images with AJAX, so if you need sharing functionality, I would recommend using the gallery slider where we have added sharing buttons for each of the gallery items.

Hi, fantastic photography theme… elegant and fast. I think I would like to use this theme, but a couple of pre-sale questions:

- Are visitor comments supported only on the blog posts? Is it possible to have a comment thread on a gallery page?

- If I want to have a gallery overview page which shows the thumbnails of the photos in it, and still use the full-height slider transition—how would i do that? Would it mean making a separate ‘gallery’ page for each photo and then relying on the next-project link on each photo? This would be really cumbersome to do!

- The filtered gallery page is really nicely done. Are the filter tags directly the gallery category, or can that be assigned in a different way?

pexeto

Hi,

Thanks, I’m glad you like the theme :) Here are my answers:

- Comments are supported on all standard page/post template, which includes blog posts, default page template and single portfolio posts. The gallery itself doesn’t provide an option to add a comment form (as it wouldn’t fit to its design), but you can link each item in the gallery to its single page where you can enable comments. This is an example of a single portfolio post page – there is an option included to enable comments on this page.

- If you are asking if each thumbnail in the gallery can link to only one image in a slider – yes, you can do this – for each thumbnail you can create a separate item and when you click on the thumbnail, the slider with the preview image will be displayed, then you can click on the next arrow and the next item’s preview image will be displayed in the slider.

- The items in the filter and the categories of the items. You can create diffent categories and assign them to the items in the gallery. If your gallery is set to display all categories, it will display all of them, but if you select to display one category, it will display that category’s subcategories only.

Default-user

Thanks for taking the time to answer the questions I asked. They’re mostly clarified, except for the one about the thumbnails page.

As I understand it, a collection of photos is an album (or item as you called it), and a collection of albums is a gallery. So, in the gallery overview page, you see a thumbnail for each album as already exists, and therefor for the album overview page we can see the thumbnails for the photos in it—> this seems to be missing.

If I understood your reply correctly, you said the solution is to make each album containing only one picture. But that would defeat the purpose of an album—not to mention that making each picture into an album would be much much more work, isn’t it?

I love the theme, and am on the verge of buying it—but this seems to be a pretty basic function missing (without lightbox use). Please show me I’m mistaken, or an example page so I can click “buy”.

Is is possible to see the documentation of the theme beforehand, to understand what options are available in the panels?

Great work on the theme’s aesthetics… clean, neat and accentuated!

pexeto

Hi,

Thanks for your kind words :)

I think I may have misunderstood you – are you asking about having a thumbnail preview of all of the images in the gallery slider, like on the fullscreen slideshow page for example? If yes, the gallery slider doesn’t support such kind of option – by design we aimed to make it look simple and clean, but if the thumbnail functionality is important to you, you may consider linking each item of the gallery to a fullscreen slideshow page, which supports this functionality. If you would like to see how the gallery and its items are created with the theme, you can watch this video.

- In the title description at the bottom of the full-height slider, can we have url links?

- WIthout using the lightbox, how can we have a permalink to a single photo? Esp useful for sharing on social networking sites.

pexeto

- Yes, you can.

- If you are planning to use one preview image to each thumbnail (as you mentioned in your previous comment), then you can use the gallery slider – each slider in the gallery has its own URL.

I would like to know, can the full width slideshow be used as the homepage slider (instead of the gallery in the demo)?

Also, if I add alt-text to my images for SEO purposes, is there a way to make sure it does NOT appear anywhere when viewing the images?

and I would also like to know the answer to 7188photo’s question:

1) On the demo site, the galleries on the homepage show up really nice, but as far as I could see it’s always a gallery of galleries. Is there a way to display only the contents of one gallery, e.g. the thumbnails of single photos in a portfolio, in a clean and simple way (without image description or any other sort of text when hover over, etc.)?

pexeto

Hi,

Yes, you can set a fullscreen slideshow page as a home page. Regarding the alt tags, if you are asking for the fullscreen slideshow – by default the slideshow doesn’t add the alt tags to the images, but generally if you add these tags to other images in the content – they shouldn’t be displayed anywhere. Regarding the other user’s question – I have already posted my reply to his comment so you can check it above.

Default-user

Thanks. Will alt tags show up in lightbox images? I have the dandelion theme and I hate that my alt-tags appear.

You werent too specific about 7188photo’s question. I’m specifically looking for the answer to:

-instead of a gallery of galleries, once you are viewing a gallery, can that specific gallery display a grid preview of the images inside a gallery?

For instance, in the demo, I could click on 1 gallery to view it, let’s say “Wheat.” I am then taken to a slider of all the images. Instead, once I click on Wheat, I would like the grid view repeated again, this time with all the images inside the “Wheat” gallery. Then a user could click on a specific thumbnail, and view it in whatever presentation style they choose (lightbox, slider, etc). Is this possible?

pexeto

Hi,

Alt tags won’t be displayed in the lightbox images.

Regarding the second question – yes, you can do this. The theme supports unlimited galleries, so you can create one main gallery and then another gallery for each category. As each item supports a custom link option, you can link each item in the main gallery to its corresponding gallery of images – if you have already worked with Dandelion, you can do the same organisation of galleries with it in the same way.

Hi

I am extremely impressed with this theme. I am looking for what I think is a buddypress style theme that allows anyone to upload their video or images that allows anyone to connect. I was just wondering if I purchase this theme can I allow anyone to create a simple profile that would allow the upload of images or videos to this theme? Also if this is the case can a simple reply be left on the videos/images? If this is the case can you show direct me to a link that displays this? If not can you direct me to another theme you offer that may be off more use?

Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

pexeto

Hi,

Generally, by default with WordPress (regardless of the theme) if you create an editor user for everyone that is allowed to create and edit posts, this user will have access to a limited functions in the back-end to be able to do this, so this also applies to the theme – if you create an editor user, this user will have access to the portfolio section in the same way he/she does for the standard posts. However, if you need some advanced functionality for automatic user registration and front-end content creation, this will require using some additional plugins or code. Regarding the comments – comments are supported on all standard page/post templates, which include blog posts, default page template and single portfolio posts. The gallery itself doesn’t provide an option to add a comment form (as it wouldn’t fit to its design), but you can link each item in the gallery to its single page where you can enable comments. This is an example of a single portfolio post page – there is an option included to enable comments on this page and if you want you can also embed videos in there as well.

hi,

Is there possible to add text section besides opened pop-up picture?

thanks

pexeto

Hi,

Yes, the gallery slider supports description for each image in the slider – for example, on this slider the description of the first image says “Yacht Sailing” (located in the bottom of the page). This section can also allocate larger texts.

Can you set a video playing as your homepage background? Such as they’ve done in this theme: http://themeforest.net/item/black-label-fullscreen-video-image-background/336949

pexeto

Hi,

The theme doesn’t include a fullscreen video background, it supports a fullscreen static image and two types of fullscreen image slideshows.

Very nice theme I would like to use for my gallery project. I have one presale question: On the demo home page, there are galleries with small number of photos within. In my project, there will be relatively few galleries, but with much more photos (about 200 to 300 per gallery). I noticed the preloading of images when I click to some gallery, which takes some time. Are ALL the photos in a gallery loaded upon user click on the gallery? If this was true, it would mean that galleries with so many photos would load in unacceptable amount of time, wouldn’t it?

pexeto

Hi,

I’m glad you like the theme :)

If you are asking about the gallery slider – it is designed to work with large amounts of images – it loads the images in portions of 5 which makes it very lightweight for displaying lots of images – for example, it first loads the first 5 images, then when the user slides trough the images and gets to the 4th image, it starts loading the next 5 images. I have tested it with around 130 images and it worked very well for me.

Is there an easy way to make it so that the home page grid is the view within a gallery so that the thumbnail grid is not just a list of other galleries but individual pictures? And then when you click on one of the thumbnails it brings up the lightbox view browse through the shots? The grid look is the best part about this theme except it seems it is unavailable for individual photos. This would be ideal and I would buy now if these adjustments can be made. Thanks!

pexeto

Hi,

By default the gallery is designed to display albums of images, however if you would like to use a lightbox, you can still set just one preview image to each item, it just won’t be linking to the next item’s image – if you would like to see the next item’s image, you would have to click on its thumbnail to preview it in lightbox. If you would like the items images to be linked to each other, you can use the slider preview – for example, if you click on the first item, the preview image will be displayed and then the right arrow will be pointing to the “Next project” right away, showing the next image.

I have the same question as Buchanan0505. Also does this support social buttons?

pexeto

Hi,

You can check my reply to Buchanan0505’s question in his comment above. Regarding social buttons – by default the theme supports social buttons for the gallery slider, but if you want to add social buttons, you can install a plugin – there are lots of sociable plugins available.
