Hey!

We have a cool theme but we also like your grid. Is it possible to buy your theme and include your grid into our theme ?

2winFactor

Hi GBACOM,

The grid in extranews is pretty integrated in the theme (css, javascript and html). That would be quite an extensive integration. You might be better off creating something of your own using the same isotope plugin:

Is there any way to reset the “popular posts widget” views weekly? Or any option to change the settings of popular posts widget to daily, weekly, monthly, etc.

2winFactor

Hi Andifds,

There’s no option for that, however, those values are just stored as a custom field attached to the post, so you can reset them back to 0 manually if you want.

Hi,

In wordpress it was showing an update for this theme, so I went ahead and let it auto update.

However, now it’s using most of the default theme options, and changing the options doesn’t change the site at all.

Can you help?

2winFactor

Hi JordanCook,

There isn’t an “Auto Update” feature with this theme. How did you update it exactly? You may want to check to make sure that when you did update that your custom.js (in the js folder) and custom.css (in the css folder) have 777 (read/write/execute) permissions. The theme needs to be able to write your theme options selections to those static files.

Hi,

When i click a gallery, it says error but when i open the link of the thumb in new tab, it work.

please help :(

2winFactor

Hi Xmiccyx,

That’s actually a bug within the latest version of WordPress itself. I’ve been able to duplicate this bug in the default WordPress theme while using WP 3.5.1. And there is a bug report:

http://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/23298

When inserting a gallery, you have to insert it and select Media File for the Attachment URL and saving the post. Then go back in and edit that gallery and update it to use the Media File as the Link URL and save again. For some reason, the new WP doesn’t let you initially set the Media File as the link

Great template, thanks for the good work.

Would you mind posting your update information on the main themeforest page for your template with an update date? I only downloaded it yesterday and today it says there is an update, but I don’t know if thats true. After all, lets face it, manual updating of templates is a pain. :|

Secondly, is there any way to make the author avatar box that appears on posts slightly smaller? I have too much grey space to the right.

By the way, I’d highly recommend this template to anyone. My cat Brian loves it and he’s using it for his new website:

http://www.newscat.co.uk

2winFactor

Hi Lordmackay,

There’s an update date as well as a version number on the ExtraNews page. If you downloaded it yesterday there are no updates since. Just navigate to Appearance > Themes and it will show your version number. Just make sure it matches what’s on the item page. Additionally, the changelog link on the item page has all the changed files as well as the dates they were updated. Also, the theme automatically checks for updates every six hours, so if you don’t get an update notification then you know you’re up to date.

Thanks for the reply Andre, much appreciated. Yes I mean I am getting an update notice in the theme admin, but there doesn’t appear to be an update. Oh well its not a big deal, I just wanted to make sure I had everything I needed.

2winFactor

Hi Lordmackay,

It looks like you took a lot of the header information out of the style.css file:

    Theme Name: ExtraNews
    Theme URI: http://themeforest.net/item/extranews-responsive-news-and-magazine-theme/3102218
Description: ExtraNews is a uniquely responive news theme for all sorts of publishers. Great for review and news sites, with integrated reviews, video, slideshows, and galleries in each post.
    Author: Andre Gagnon
    Author URI: http://www.themewich.com
License: GNU General Public License version 3.0
    License URI: http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-3.0.html
    Version: 1.4.2

This is the version number it checks against. Without that number of theme name in the file, it can’t properly check for updates.

Andre

Hey Mate, Loving the theme, one quick one how do do i change the avatar when I post? I would like to change the grey box with the white silhouette to something else. Cheers!

Hi Rob!

Thanks for purchasing my theme! I really appreciate it!

You’ll just need to register with gravatar. This is what WordPress uses by standard for avatars:

https://en.gravatar.com/

Your email just need to match the email of your WordPress user.

Hi Andre, I LOVE this theme! I am very interested in purchasing it. I currently have a website www.PositiveLifeTips.com. I am wondering if there was any way possible to make it so that my pictures do not get cut off or cropped with this theme. Like my current website you can see the whole picture in the display. When I make a post I would simply be posting pictures and nothing else. Thanks for the help! Jhon

2winFactor

Sure, it’s just a one-line change. Again, the grid images you probably won’t want to do that with, since you want them to fit together nicely. But all the other images in the site you can turn the cropping off.

Let me know if you have any other questions,

Andre

Awesome! So will it look good if I’m only posting images and no text? Like on the homepage where it shows each post and the text would it just show my image then? Also the only reason I am worried about cropping is because I want people to see the full image like they can currently on my website. So would the grid just keep my images square but some squares bigger and some smaller? Or would it crop them into rectangles??

2winFactor

Hi PLTS,

You can hide the text in the homepage grid if you like. The grid would crop your images by default, some bigger, some smaller. Again, you can turn the cropping off, but then they might not fit nicely together. Just depends on the look you’re going for.

Hi Andre i recently bought your extranews theme, and i love it. But for any reason my articles/post’s aren’t displayed in the headlines feed.

But if i go to the home page and force the click on the “latest post’s” they are displayed. If i refresh they disappear

Can u help?

I have all set up, categories/post’s etc

Best Regards

2winFactor

Hi Hricrocha,

Thanks for purchasing my theme! I really appreciate it!

The way the homepage works is that the “latest posts” section excludes any posts that are in the grid by default. That way, you don’t see a bunch of the same articles twice on the page. You can either add more posts to your site, or just turn that feature off by removing the exclusion from the homepage. If you want to turn this off, just start a new topic on the support forum and I’d be happy to help! Thanks!

Hi,what is the width of the sidebar?it is possible to insert ads with a width of 300 px (300×250)? Thank you!

2winFactor

Hi Marius27,

Yep! There’s a 300px sidebar option. Just select that in your theme options and the sidebar will always be 300px wide.

Let me know if you have any other questions,

Andre

Hey I installed the update the other day, and now all the changes I made in the theme options, like colours, padding things like that have been set back to default. Now I have put them back to how I would like them but it hasnt changed on the site. Also what happened to the homepage twitter feed widget?! Please advise thanks. Rob

2winFactor

Hi mastersonrg,

Have you tried re-saving your theme options panel? After you update, you’ll need to do that since you’ve replaced your custom.js and custom.css files. Just resave the theme options panel and it will write those options to your js and css files again. Make sure the file have read/write/execute (777) permissions so they can be written to.

Twitter deprecated it’s API – meaning all existing twitter widgets will cease to function. To add a twitter widget to your site, you’ll need to check out this post:

http://themewich.com/forum/topic/4669/attention-twitter-widget-changes-due-to-deprecated-api

Feel free to check out the demo for an example of the new twitter widget.

Hi, I bought your theme but I did not find the PSD files. Can you provide me them like homepage.psd and article_page.psd. Thanks for all. Cheers.

Hi Thenickoro,

Thanks for purchasing my theme! I really appreciate it!

I do all my designing in the browser, so there are no PSD files that were created for ExtraNews. Unfortunately, we have to PSD files to share.

Pre-sale questions:

Can the sliding grids setup without the text, just image transitions?

Is it easy to change to the navigation (no background, logo in middle of the navigation menu)?

Thanks!

2winFactor

Hi Jinghorton,

Sure, you can easily hide the text in the grid with a little custom css in the Theme Options panel. However, centering the logo in the navigation menu is a much more complex alteration that would exceed the scope of support for the theme. You’d need to consult the help of a developer for an alteration such as that.

Let me know if you have any other questions,

Andre

Dear Andre,

Really liked your sliding grids, I would like to purchase it for my site too.

Just requesting for one small clarification, Is it possible to rip just the sliding responsive grids and replace the slider section of my site www.sevendiary.com with it?

Thank you in advance - John

2winFactor

Hi John,

That would be a little more difficult to do, as that’s pretty integrated into the theme. You’d have to properly identity the html/css/js/and php you’d need to rip out of the theme. That would go beyond the scope of support for the theme – you’d need to seek the help of a developer for something like that.

Let me know if you have any other questions,

Andre

Hello.

Before I buy this theme I would like to know how many posts can I display in the home page, using tabs, etc, and if there are more banner options for sponsors. Thank you I love this theme.

Raul

2winFactor

Hi Raul,

You can display up to 9 posts in the “Grid” on the homepage, and choose how many you want to display in the “latest news” section. You can even change that “latest news” section to default to specific category if you want (like latest reviews for instance).

There aren’t any additional banner widgets included with the theme, however, there are many plugins that could extend the advertising functionality of the theme.

Let me know if you have any other questions,

Andre

Thanks Andre. What I need for the homepage is to be able to add tabs or dividers with more posts, one column posts before or aftter the latest post. The thing is that I want to show more content in the homepage with a differet layout. The grid anf the other sections are ok as they are, the look great. Raul

2winFactor

Hi Raul,

That’s currently not a feature of the theme. You’d need to make some modifications to get that to work. I’d be happy to point you in the right direction, but that your of alteration would go beyond the scope of support for the theme. You’d need to seek the help of a developer for an alteration such as that.

What do I need to do to get the posts to Generate in the Latest News Section of my blog? www.eyeonglam.com

Hi Eyeonglam,

Thanks for purchasing my theme! I really appreciate it!

By default, the theme doesn’t display posts in the latest posts section that are already in the grid. That way, your homepage doesn’t show a bunch of the same posts twice (which would be bad UX). You can change it by editing the loop in template- home.php. Is that something you wanted to do?

Hi there,

This is great theme, I will buy it. But ? want to know, can I put share buttons under the post on main page? My website’s the most important area is sharing.

Thanks.

2winFactor

Hi Mtotrakan,

Sharing functionality under posts on the homepage doesn’t exist in the theme currently. You’d need to make some modifications or use a plugin to help extend that functionality.

Hi Andre,

First of all, thanks so much for the terrific back-end support provided by your team. Almost, all my issues were promptly resolved and I am very happy with the website that I have just launched.

However, I have encountered a few key areas that, if improved, can truly get this wonderful theme rockin’. Listing these below for your consideration & feedback:

1. Yoast SEO Plugin Title Duplication: I just can’t tell you how much time I had to invest in the support forum to get this one issue sorted.

I suggest the fantastic approach adopted by Genesis Theme in this regard where as soon as it senses Yoast (or, any other SEO plugin for that matter), the native theme SEO function automatically switches off.

In fact, as everyone is using dedicated SEO plugins these days, I feel the built-in SEO feature can be eliminated making this issue totally go away.

2. Theme Update: I have a few theme that can be updated within WordPress itself like plugin updates. I feel, if that can be enabled here it will be truly helpful as many of us are really weary of losing the customization (I haven’t enabled the last update for this reason).

Again, as this theme is getting so popular, it will be awesome if a framework/child theme approach can be adopted here as then, this issue will be taken care for good.

In fact, as this theme comes in three layouts – Grid, Slider & Blog Homepage – may be we can have three child themes on the basic framework and only install the layout that we want to use making the installed theme leaner as well.

3. Retina Ready: I think this is a really popular demand as most of the devices are going high res. It will be great if this theme can be made natively retina ready.

4. Google+ in the Social Counter Widget: Instead of the RSS Feed counter, it will helpful if we can have Google+ there. Or, an option to select the three social counters we wish to use there.

5. I have heard there are some integration issues will Disqus (Comment count etc.). I have just launched my site so I haven’t faced this but Comments being so critical these days, it will be great if a toggle option can be enabled between the native comment system and Disqus to avoid any conflict.

6. Lastly, one point on the Support Forum – I haven’t found any way to see all the discussions that I have started together at one place. Guess, if there is a way to find all your discussion (headings) as a snapshot/list, it will make referencing truly helpful.

Once again, congrats for a great theme and look forward to hear your views in this regard.

2winFactor

Hi Aum,

Thanks for your comment. I’d love for you to add these to the Feature requests thread on the Support forum. It’s great to have all of the feature requests in one spot – I always read through them before deciding on new features!

http://themewich.com/forum/topic/2354/extranews-feature-requests

A few comments about your questions:

1. I’m not sure how to handle the Yoast SEO plugin issue. I have a hard time with it, due to how Yoast handles it’s integration with themes. It “Highjacks” the wp_title function, meaning I can’t use that function (a standard wordpress function) in my theme. What that means is if I remove that function, then customers who don’t use that plugin won’t get the same basic SEO title structure with the theme. I don’t want to require users use that plugin. The easiest thing to do is to have Yoast update the plugin to play more nicely with themes that use that function.

2. The problem with this is verifying purchase and delivering and hosting the wordpress update. Themeforest doesn’t allow me to do this through them, which means I’d need to host the file myself and push out the updates with my servers. I’m not opposed to this, but I’m trying to figure out the best way for customers and also not have to sacrifice a lot of bandwidth and security. I’ll see what I can do!

3. This may not be too hard to do. The theme doesn’t use very many images, so converting it to retina would just be converting a few images to svg images or pure css. With any “Retina-Ready” theme, you’ll still need to use a plugin to help convert your post images to retina images:

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-retina-2x/

4. Great suggestion, I’m hoping to extend this functionality in a future update.

5. The disqus issues are inherent in any theme. All you have to do is make sure you check the “Output javascript in footer” when you set up your disqus plugin. That way it won’t override your comment count.

6. We’re working on this. We’ve recently added the ability to “Subscribe” to forum topics so you’re emailed when they update. That’s the best way to do it in the mean time. Hopefully we should have this type of feature in the coming months.

Thanks again for your awesome suggestions!

Andre

Hi there! Love the theme, very much enjoying my recent purchase. I am, however, having an issue with the mobile view. Doesn’t seem to be looking anything like the theme: http://mobile.beehooved.com/#2759

Unless i scroll to the very bottom and select “classic” view.

In the classic view the theme looks as it should, however when I select a post, it does not take me to that post, however, just refreshes me to the home screen.

Any support would be appreciated.

Thanks, Matt

2winFactor

Hi Matt,

Thanks for purchasing my theme! I really appreciate it!

It looks like you might have some kind of plugin enabled for mobile devices or something. There should be no “mobile” version of the theme since it’s responsive. Have you tried deactivating all plugins?
