Hello WPExplorer, Thank you for the Fashionista theme. I’m using the theme to transition my site lifemeanswhat.com to the wordpress CMS.

If you could take a moment to visit lifemeanswhat.com you will see that each post has a little ribbon indicating the category type of the post.

I would like to add these same pink and gold ribbons to the posts on the homepage with fashionista.

The limited knowledge I have of CSS makes me think this would be a relatively simple addition, just “position: absolute” the pink ribbon for .category-original-films, but that is as far as I can get.

I know you don’t really offer customization support but any help to get me going would be much appreciated. Thank you.

WPExplorer

Sorry for the delay on this.

The easiest would be using css. If you notice each entry has the classname for the category it’s in. For example the post called “SHFTING CONSCIOUSNESS WITH ADRIAN GRENIER” has the class “category-original-films” in the entry.

So what you can do is target these classes and use the after or before pseudo classes to add the category ribbon on the entries. The only concern would be if you have posts in multiple categories…

Otherwise you can either move the “formats” folder into a child theme and add the code (php/html) for the categories into the corresponding entry-[format].php files or use the_content filter to hook it at the bottom of the entry content and then position it absolutely.

It’s a fairly big mod, so it’s not something I can really walk you through step by step – hope this helps!

Hi,

Thank you for responding promptly to all my previous questions. – I would like to use the homepage to showcase about 400 posts. Will the page still load up pretty fast and scroll down easy? Is build as an infinite scroll?

Alex

WPExplorer

Hi Alex, if you want to display 400 posts at a time I wouldn’t advice it. I would suggest still only showing 20-50 (max) items at a time before the infinite scroll kicks in. Of course the speed will depend mostly on how good your server is, 400 items is a lot and could hog down pretty much any server.

Hi Guys,

I have a previous version of the theme installed on my blog. How do I upgrade to the latest version please?

Thanks

Rposs

WPExplorer

You can re-download the theme and replace all the files via FTP (easiest) or you can try out the Envato Toolkit plugin and see if that works better for you – https://github.com/envato/envato-wordpress-toolkit

Hello, How can I have my posts displayed alphabetically for a select category?

Thanks for your help.

WPExplorer

You need to use the WordPress pre_get_posts hook to alter your main query – http://codex.wordpress.org/Plugin_API/Action_Reference/pre_get_posts

If you aren’t sure how to do that you might want to search for a plugin that can do this.

Hello AJ,

I just upgrade to 3.2 and found out that your change log is not complete: http://www.wpexplorer.org/changelogs/fashinonista/

First it says that the current version is 3.1 but it 3.2

More important you also added a list of changed files. The ‘header.php’ file is not mentioned there, but it has changed for adding the new responsive mobile menu.

Are there any other files that got updates and are not mentioned?

Thank you in advance!

Rick

WPExplorer

Hi Rick,

I didn’t add a changelog for 3.2 because this is all I did (taken from my update submission):

Accidentally wrote framework instead of functions for one of the recommended plugins in the TGMA script.

I will dump that onto the changelog, I just didn’t feel like it was crucial at the moment and then I forgot!

I will actually stop mentioning the files updated in the future. People should simply update all the files, by mentioning the files I think people get lazy and don’t use child themes. I don’t want to encourage bad habits ;)

Hello AJ,

I do actually use child themes but my website can’t live without modified copies of for example header.php.

Also I use some customized taxonomies and archive pages with added/changed functionality.

I can’t get around modifying core files unfortunately. So stopping with mentioning changed files would be a shame in my opinion.

Good point Rick.

Hi when I view my site via the iPhone. It only loads the first page ie ten posts and does not want to scroll any further? Any ideas what may cause this problem? I works okay on a PC or mac just noticed it on an iPhone 5s. Any thoughts would be great. Thanks

WPExplorer

Which pagination style are you using?

If you are using the infinite scroll…try scrolling to the bottom then after the loader finishes swipe down again and see if it works.

Thanks for the quick reply mate but it was a problem with my phone it works after a restart. ;) out of interest does the script use jetpack for te scroll?

WPExplorer

Great!

No the infinite scroll is built-in using this awesome script – https://github.com/paulirish/infinite-scroll

Hi, the home page of the fashionista theme is in infinite scroll as long as the pagination is set to it. Correct?

WPExplorer

Correct, in the theme panel you can choose between infinite scroll, standard pagination and load more.

What’s the optimal image size for uploading?

WPExplorer

There really isn’t any optimal size. The theme will resize the images as you upload them. Just make sure they are large enough ;)

Hello there,

Just a little question. I would like to know for the main menu of it’s possible to add a little arrow near each menu when there are items on one menu ? For example: http://webmarket.demo.proteusthemes.com/ there is a little arrow near blog/shop/features when there are items in the menu. I would like to do the same in Fashionista, is that possible through CSS ? Thanks a lot for the help! :)

WPExplorer

Yes, here is a little CSS I just came up with. Tweak it accordingly:

.sf-menu > .menu-item-has-children > a:after {
    display: inline-bock;
  content: "";
  height: 10px;
  width: 10px;
  background: url("URL TO YOUR ICON");
  margin-left: 10px;
}

This also assumes you have a 10px by 10px triangle image you’ll be using.

Hope this makes sense!

Thank you! I found another much more simple method….in the Menu section of wordpress admin, I just added this “span class=”icon-caret-down”” in the navigation label and everything works fine ! :) But I keep in mind your solution also ! Thank you !

WPExplorer

Oh ya, that’s a great idea using the font icons ;)

Nice!

I can’t figure out how to get the video to show up in the post. I embedded the script under post option and chose video format. But the video doesn’t show up in the post window on the home page.

WPExplorer

If you want it to work like in the demo you’ll need to use the meta option – http://cl.ly/image/1w3P2I3d083W

Default-user

I tried but the image of video post doesn’t show up on the homepage.

WPExplorer

Make sure you’ve selected the “video” post format as well!

If you can’t get it working you can always send me a private message with the URL and logins and I’ll make sure there aren’t any bugs/issues!

Solved! no need to answer ;-)

Hi! I love your theme and I am thinking of purchasing. It would be very kind of you if you could answer some questions before I do:

1) Is it possible to make a recipe index page with small photos and captions beneath, where you can click on the photo and will be linked to the corresponding blogpost? 2) Search field in the menu bar removable or customizable? 3) Can the menu bar be centered instead of left-aligned? 4) If I post an image in portrait will it fit the whole post width? 5) 1 post area 1 sidebar (2 column) is possible? I could not see it in the demo. 6) Background color footer area customizable? 7) Translatable?

Thanks so much if you have some time. No rush. Kind regards and have a nice weekend!

Hello, lately I have a problem, I can not see the image that I put in the post. Why?

Update installed, solved tanks.

Hello,

I am using infinite scroll for the pagination style, but on the categories pages, items start repeating after the 20th item…

It works fine on the home page, but not when we filter by categories.

Default-user

Do we get answers here?

WPExplorer

Have you tried de-activating plugins to see if one is causing issues?

Also, by any chance do you have any sticky posts in this category? Also does it happen on all categories?

Hi just purchased this and I Iove it but I have one issue. When I create a gallery post I am not getting a gallery slide show. The images are stacked. I have Jet pack installed with the WP gallery activated but even with that shut off I am still getting stacked images. Can you please advise me.

Thank You

WPExplorer

If you are trying to create the slider at the top of the post, this is created automatically based on your post image attachments.

Is there a way to not display featured Image in individuali post? Thanks

Solved, thanks

Simple question: where do I purchase the $25 plugin Isotope Masonry Grid? or is it part of the theme package?

WPExplorer

The Isotope Grid is a javascript plugin. It costs $25 for the developer version. And it’s used in the theme for the masonry layout on the homepage and archive pages.

http://isotope.metafizzy.co/

I’ve removed that mention from the features list to not confuse other people that might think it’s a WP plugin

Thank you for quick response!

Hello WPExplorer, My comment is a suggestion. I am a beginning user and I still have not much knowledge to change codes and css. One of my interests in doing a blog is to link the blog to my Instagram account, and did not find this option on the social networking panel. My suggestion would be to include Instagram on your theme. Congratulations for the work.

WPExplorer

Instagram wasn’t around when I released this theme ;) But you are correct I should add the option and it’s quite easy. Send me a private message if you want the updated theme with the new social option.
