I just realize that I got a problem with the “Photo Album” function. It says in the list of what I can do :

Create several Photo Albums that each consist of: Title Content Excerpt Media Link (Full URL to enlarged image, YouTube video, Vimeo video, .mov file, or .swf file) Thumbnail (featured image) Album (i.e. Which album is this photo album assigned to?)”

Does the last option about assign the photo album mean that the title of the photo album link to a specific page or album ? if so I don’t see this option anymore, only the url for the file (media link). I’m pretty sure it was working before I moved my website to a new host, normally how this assignment is working ? Here is the link to the page :

http://www.la-thailande-et-l-asie.com/album/galeries-photos/

Thanks

There’s nothing in my theme called “Photo Albums” ... are you sure you’re not using some kind of plugin or something?

Sorry I actually changed the name on my dashboard but i’m talking about the portfolio function.

ThemeBlvd

The theme has a custom post type called portfolio items that are grouped into a custom taxonomy called portfolios.

This works exactly the same as how WordPress has by default standard posts that are grouped into the taxonomy “Categories”.

In the same way when editing a standard post that you’d apply it to a category is the same as when you’re editing a Portfolio Item post and you need to apply it to a “Portfolio” – or I supposed “Photo Album” in your case.

I cannot choose where to link the title of the portfolio ? what I don’t get is that if you check the page you can see that they are all linking to the main category, but when I go to your website prevew it seems that each portfolio item is linked to a specific page, how do you do that ?

ThemeBlvd

Do you have it hidden under your “Screen Options” tab of the top right corner of the screen when editing a post?

When I edit a portfolio post ? all I’ve got under screen options is :

Photo Album | Options Search Engine Optimization (SEO) | Excerpt | Discussion | Comments | Slug | Albums | Featured Image

Is there suppose to have one more option for the link ?

ThemeBlvd

No, the option would be the one called Photo Album? Are we not talking about the same thing here?

Default-user

No I got confuse with the words but I’m pretty we are talking about the same thing, the options above are the one when editing Photo album to add picture to this page http://www.la-thailande-et-l-asie.com/album/galeries-photos/

Here is a capture screen from the page when I edit a photo album http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/5291/galeriephotob.jpg
ThemeBlvd

I am so beyond confused right now. Either you’re completely missing the obvious here or we are talking about two completely different things. Forget everything we’ve said so far and ask me your question again. What exactly are you trying to do?

Default-user
rely27 Purchased

Ok, let’s do it again, if you go on this page :

http://www.la-thailande-et-l-asie.com/album/galeries-photos/

And if you click on any title (for example the first one : Photo Birmanie) you can see that it redirect on the same page http://www.la-thailande-et-l-asie.com/album/galeries-photos/ instead of linking to a specified page like on your preview site, on the preview you’ve got a text with a rea more link, the title AND the read more lead to another page right ? This is what I cannot do, the title only redirect to http://www.la-thailande-et-l-asie.com/album/galeries-photos/ by default.

I also realized that normally there is a border around the picture according to your preview there is this line #full-width-content a.thumb img, #content a.thumb img { but on my page no border on the pictures, why ? (I’ve checked the file core.css and nothing looks wrong…)

Well.. as you may have seen I’ve replace the porfolio.php so now the page is not there anymore as it deleted the previous albums…. by doing so I see that the featured image option is not available when I edit a porfolio item…

ThemeBlvd

I’m sorry but I really don’t know what you have going on there. Before I thought you were saying you didn’t understand how to put your posts into photo albums, which after seeing your screenshot, you obviously do. I don’t think you’re doing anything wrong in your WP admin.

It sounds like you’re making a lot of customizations to the theme. Also if you were messing around with changing your taxonomy ID’s and not flushing your permalink settings, you could have some of the problems you’re describing about the links going to the wrong place. And if you’re stylings are ending up being different than the demo, then that would suggest you’re also making changes to the theme’s CSS . I really can’t do much for you if you’re customizing the theme like this. It’s just impossible to give people support in customizations.

This is why I have to outline all of my support terms like this so strictly: http://themeblvd.com/support/

Default-user

Yes, sorry about that, I believe it’s indeed because of the customization (even if it was working before I moved the blog…) that’s not a big deal, don’t worry, thanks for trying to help anyway.

Ok now that I’ve found one of the problem I had, I clicked in the option

Album’s thumbnail links where?

- Thumbnails link lightbox popup of your media album. - Thumbnails link to the photo album post.

I selected the second one (link to post) I’ve select back the popup option and now the image is linking again to the right place. My question now is can I choose where to link the portfolio title ? (where the function to link this title is ?)

I also get confused, if I’ve got few categories for portfolios how do I show them all in the same page ?

Default-user
rely27 Purchased

If I take example on your website preview you’ve got a page http://www.themeblvd.com/demo/flipblog-v2/portfolio/photography/ which is actually showing a list of different portfolio that you call portfolio items, on this page each title of the portfolio item link to the portfolio page created with the custom post “portfolio item” am I right ? but on my website this is simply linking to the main portfolio page.

What I should have is /album/galeries-photos equivalent to your /portfolio/photography (by customize I’ve actually only changed the name of the taxonomy) and inside this page I can indeed see my different items which are called photo-album instead of portfolio-item but the title is not linking to the individual photo-album listed in the page like it does on your site (for example portfolio-item/sample-photo-5/) but keep going to the main album (so it stays on album/galeries-photo for every items while it should individually goes to photo-album for example for the first item if I click on the title it should goes to photo-album/photos-birmanie/)

ThemeBlvd

There is no option to choose where the portfolio item title links to. You can only either show or hide it, but it can only link to the portfolio item post page with the way the theme’s setup. On your site, the portfolios items titles are not linking to the portfolio item pages because of something you’ve screwed with in taxonomy.php. When I look at your site the anchor tags around the titles of your portfolio items, they’re completely empty, not linking to anything. This makes it obvious that you’ve messed with that specific code in taxonomy.php.

So download the theme again and put that file back if you want to fix the problem. This time, be more careful when making your customizations.

No need, you actually pointed me to the right direction, the href in taxonomy.php was indeed empty, now it’s working ! thank you very much for your help !!

Hi there,

Love the theme. Using it here: www.NoWaterRiver.com

I have the same question as “legendarypr” had one month ago regarding showing the featured image on the permalink page. You mentioned that he could customize the theme’s single.php to show the featured image.

Could you elaborate on how to do that or show a snippet of how to edit that particular section, as I’d really like to do this as well. Thank you!

OMG , don’t you hate rookies! :) I even know better, but it’s been so long since I’ve changed a theme that I forgot.

Can I ask one more stupid question? Can I change the size of the logo? Mine is the same height but wider and it’s being cut off. I checked the header file but don’t find any size restraints so I’m not sure how to fix it.

Here’s where I have it installed – http://www.aimlesscurator.com

2nd stupid question – my nav bar disappears (ie., the hover color is white) I hate that. Can it be changed, too? And where can I send you a donation for all this extra help?

thanks!

ThemeBlvd

The logo is sized with CSS . It’s not easily changed because the height needs to be exact in the surrounding header elements because of how the theme works with positioning the header and how it can be “flipped” around.

The reason you’re having issues with your main menu is because you don’t actually have it sitting in the correct place. You have too many buttons on the main menu and it’s getting pushed down below your logo. You need to tighten up the buttons and then you’ll see the menu appear up in the purple header.

To make the logo wider you’d have to customize the CSS there, but I wouldn’t do that, as it’s going to make your issue with the main menu worse.

Hiā€”love your theme but I guess when I purchased it I didnt realize that my header would be so small :) Is there a way to change the header to be bigger? Im not that good at this :)

www.prototypemama.com

ThemeBlvd

Sorry but in this theme the header size is very important and effects many other things in order for the theme to sit right, as you’re able to “flip” it into different positions. The size of your header is the same size as the theme’s demo.

For CSS changes, it’s a good idea to use a tool like firebug or Google Chrome’s built-in developer tools to locate them and then put the edits either in your child theme or in the “Custom CSS ” option on your theme options page.

Also, here’s a helpful tutorial on how to use Firebug – http://vimeo.com/20917974. The only thing I’d suggest not doing is actually making edits to the theme’s CSS files, as it shows at the end of that video. However, the video serves as a good introduction to Firebug and how it can be used to find what CSS is effecting certain areas of your site without ever digging around in any files.

You should look at possibly tightening up what’s on your main menu or possibly customizing the CSS to make the font smaller?

I purchased this theme a little while ago and am working on learning how to work with it. Thus far its the best theme I’ve purchased as its the only one that actually works.

I have two issues: I’d like to know if slide shows can be attributed to the pictures within blog posts and two how can I get the pictures I use within my post to show up above the actual blog post in the blog page

www.remonrasho.com

ThemeBlvd

No sorry unfortunately that’s not how the sliders work. If you were going to create a slider for a post’s images, you’d have to manually create it as shown in the slider videos of your documentation and insert it with the slideshow shortcode in your post. I’d imagine this probably wouldn’t be too practical though to go through and do this for a bunch of posts.

You could possibly search for some sort of plugin that might accomplish this instead on more of a an automated basis: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/

I really like this theme for a project I have coming up, but I’m wondering . . . I know you’ve mentioned in the forum that the header is fairly customizable. What I want to do is have header mastheads that change every month or so, where I would insert a new full-width image, similar to what’s done on dooce.com. It’s perfectly fine (actually preferable) that the menu links hover on top of the header image if it would be possible for the image to traverse the full header width and have part of the image sit behind those links. Possible here? If so, I’m buying this. Really nice look and feel.

ThemeBlvd

These are obviously things that don’t come with the theme. Is what you’re asking possible? Of course, what isn’t possible? :-) .... But just a warning, so you’re not mislead before purchasing, that our support doesn’t include how to do code customizations. http://themeblvd.com/support

jmarkj

Understood, and it’s worth taking a chance for me. Was just wondering if you thought the menu might stay put while I float an image behind it. :-)

ThemeBlvd

Yeah I think that would work. I’d think you’d want to add the image possibly as a background image to the elements already there surrounding the header maybe. Then everything would sit on top of it. Or id you were going to add an image, you’d want to position it absolute, but if it’s “floated” (I’m not sure if you meant just the conversational word float or the CSS code word float lol), you wouldn’t be able to get the links of the menu to sit on top of it.

You’d have to find some sort of ecommerce plugin, and it’s probably going to take quite a bit of CSS customization to get whatever plugin you use looking right with the theme.

Hi Jason,

What is the difference between a post and a page set to a “blog template” – they look the same to me. I’m using this as a blog primarily. BUT , I have another site that uses Alyeska (w00t w00t), and I would like to add a blog (so I guess I’d add a blog template)...?

Why would you use a page set at a blog on Flip Blog??? Sorry for the rambling, hopefully that makes sense. Ouch, my brain hurts.

Thanks bro! aw

ThemeBlvd

When we say blog, we’re talking about your posts being listed out. So what’s the difference between a blog and a post? A blog displays your different posts, and then when you click to view one, you’re viewing the single post.

The blog page template allows you to setup a blog that isn’t your homepage. By default your WordPress site is setup to display a “blog” as your homepage, but what if you wanted to set a static page as your homepage instead for a more business-like website?

Well, you’d do this by creating a static page and then assigning it as the homepage under Settings > Reading > Frontpage displays. Ok, so then you do that and where did your blog go? Now, you’d want to use the blog page template. You’d create a new page, assign the blog page template, and link people to that.

Now, your homepage is a static page and you have a “blog” located somewhere else on your site.

Ok, thanks Jason. After digesting all that and watching a few videos over again, I get it. What threw me off is I built Alyeska on version 1, and Flipblog on version 2. Alyeska has those homepage buttons to configure, didn’t realize that Flip Blog defaults to “option 5” which is what I wanted anyway…to be honest, I like the Alyeska “old way” better – but I see the need for the change.

Last question, how in the crap do I get “flip blog” off…and or (not sure yet) pop a log in that bar at the top.

Thanks again, aw

Ok, sorry…last question. This seems like it should be obvious but I can’t get it to work. I would like a graphic background that I created (jpg, png) – is there a way to upload it?

I tried Appearance>Background>Upload image

The image uploaded to WP, but doesn’t show on my blog/site…

I also went into the Appearance>editor>theme functions

and added this piece of code: //Enable custom background add_custom_background();

You know what’s hanging it up?

Thanks.

ThemeBlvd

This theme doesn’t support built-in background control, and adding support for it how you’re doing it isn’t going to make it compatible with the design. Changing the background to something other than what the theme options give you will be a customization you’d need to make to the theme, possibly with your own custom CSS ?

I love this theme. I just started a little over a week ago with a standard Worpress theme and this is the first “custom” theme I’ve bought. So far it’s almost everything I was looking for. Thankyou so much for your hard work and eye for design.

That said, two little things: Can I create a Portfolio without associating a picture with it? I want to write some stories and have them grouped in a portfolio but there’s this annoying little “you haven’t uploaded a picture” link above each item. How do I get rid of that or can I?

Also, my widgets don’t seem to work well. I can’t seem to “drag and drop” widgets to homepage1, homepage2 ,etc. If I enable accessibility mode I can get it all to work, but it’s cumbersome. ThemeBlvd. widgets don’t seem to “drag and drop” to anything.

Other than those two little annoyances, I love the theme and wish you would put out more blog based themes. Your work is great.

www.unfoldingmyth.com

ThemeBlvd

Hello,

In order to remove featured images you’d have to customize the theme. In taxonomy.php (the file that displays portfolios), you’d need to just delete the featured images.

Here’s a screenshot: http://picturestack.com/900/616/7T2ScreenShotv6Q.png

And as far as the widgets, I believe I am aware of what you’re referring to, but it should only be the case in older browsers. Are you using a modern web browser like IE9 , Firefox, Chrome, etc?

Default-user

Thanks for the tip on editing the taxonomy.php. :)

Yes, I’m using a modern browser. I use Firefox and IE9 . When I add a ThemeBlvd widget to the sidebar I can’t then remove it. I can remove the regular widgets. If I toggle accessibility mode on and off I can then remove the ThemeBlvd widgets.

ThemeBlvd

I just tested and it works fine in IE9 . I dragged all Theme Blvd widgets in and out of sidebars with no issues.

I think the problem is with older versions of IE. So if you’re turning “compatibility” mode ON, you’re using an older version of IE and it’s not going to work. But you shouldn’t be doing anything in compatibility mode.

Default-user

I use Firefox. I don’t think it has a compatibility mode to enable or disable.
