Is it possible to set all accordions as closed for the default?

intheme

It is not possible out of the box, but you could add following JS to your js/user.js file to close them on page load.

(function($) {
    $(function () {
        $('.panel-active .panel-title a').trigger('click');
    });
})(jQuery);

Great theme! I actually started to design my site using another theme but found it did not function the way I thought it would. I came across your theme and it’s been awesome so far!!

I look forward to the Support Forum. I’m sure you’ve been asked the same question several times..so the Forum will be helpful for all. Anyways, I ran into the following minor issues as well as a few questions and would appreciate it if you could clarify them:

1. Contact Form – it seems that the Page Name (ie. Contact) in the Nav Bar and the ‘heading’ over the custom text are linked. I’d like to have the ‘heading’ named something else other than ‘Contact’, similar to the Demo. In the Demo, the heading over the custom text says ‘Hello’; in the Nav Bar it says ‘Contact’. Is this a bug or something that I’m not doing correctly?

2. RE Dark Theme: There are some minor differences from the White Theme. a) All the headings in the (Blog) sidebar are LEFT aligned instead of right aligned. b) 1 px vertical line is missing (beside the Nav Bar and Content) c) The logo isn’t centered. I updated the CSS to match the White Theme but wondered if these changes were done on purpose??

3. RE Services Shortcodes: The icon (circle) stretches to 725px x 725px… it also stretches the image below it to the same size. Is this also a bug or something that I’m not doing correctly?

4. In the Demo, there is a menu (scroll to the far right side) in the Blog section which allows the user to search Blog Posts ie. Page 1 of 4. Does this menu appear only after a certain number of Posts? Otherwise, how do you insert this menu?

5. RE widget ‘Archives’; can you let me know where this property is controlled? I’d like to adjust the CSS for the ‘Month’.

6. Do you have any plans to insert an (optional) overlay pattern for images?

Sorry for the lengthy post.. I tried to be as brief and concise as possible! I look forward to your response!!

intheme

Hey,

those are good questions, here are the answers:

1. When you add items to your menu (via Appearance > Menus), you can specify optional Menu Item Title which will get displayed in the navigation bar. This is the reason why in the demo I get “Contacts”, which is menu item title and “Hello” which is the title of the page.

2. Yeah, these differences are made on purpose. Basically with dark skin I wanted to show that by adding some CSS adjustments you can achieve quite a different look and feel.

3. The services shortcode is designed to fulfill the parent container. So if you add 4 services, every gets 25% of available space and look they nice. Now if you add only 1 service, then it gets 100% of available space, thus expanding to 725px in your case. My suggestion would be to add few more services, or if that is not possible, then to use the services shortcode within columns shortcode. For example like this:

[columns]
[column6]
[services]
[service title="Title" icon="camera" image="./image.jpg"]
Your service...
[/service]
[/column6]
[/columns]

4. Yes, it appears when you reach your posts per page limit, which is set in your Wordpress settings (Settings > Reading)

5. I’m not quite sure which element you are willing to change. But you should really read a bit about tool an excellent called Firebug. It allows you to inspect any element on the page, this shows you which classes are effecting that specific element’s style. You can then use those classes to add extra rules to your user.css file.

6. Not really, it looks like a very specific customization which could be achieved quite easily with some extra CSS.

Hope it clarifies some stuff.

Hi again, i’m implementing the workaround from here http://inthe.me/documentation/fluxus/#how-to-disable-lightbox-inside-project-pages-114

but would love to go one step further – can I HIDE the URL of the image showing inside the url bar? Clicks are blocked – great – but the filename is still visible.

thanks in advance

intheme

Hey,

I’ve found a better solution :-) Try using this:

(function($) {
    $(function () {
        var $images = $('.project-image-link');
        $images.replaceWith(function () {
            return $('<span />').append($(this).contents());
        });
    });
})(jQuery);

Now, thats uber awesome! Should surely go to the documentation. I bet im not the only one that finds it usefull. I have one other question: I made a pool on my FB page on what my visitors think about the new layout (http://mrozinski.com.pl) – basically everybody agrees its beatiful, clean and elegant, BUT: the navigation is not intuitive. A few folks mentioned, that it would be easier if horizotal stuff could roll its self or automatically – when one places the mouse cursor on the left screen side (or right screen side) OR there should be clicable arrows showing up while pointing the cursor near those areas. I think its a nice thing to have (not as a replacemnt). I might be used to keyboard while browsing but apparently many out there are not, and poiting the mouse in different areas to look for content ist the easiest way for them. If you could consider such an option, it would be great. Best regards and, thanks Vilius for the great support!

Just noticed that this solution works on big image portfolio page – thats exacly what my viewers would like to see on every horizontally oriented page (posts, portfolio items)- maybe with a smaller arrow :)

intheme

Hey,

sorry, but I can’t help you at the moment. Although I agree that some might find the navigation net intuitive enough. There are few solutions:

1. The smaller arrows as you said. 2. Mouse drag navigation. 3. Image click navigation.

I’ll implement one of these, but it will come after few the next update. You can follow @in_theme on twitter to get notified about what’s happening.

Hi, thanks for your help a week back in answering some questions that helped me evaluate if the theme works for me and it does! I downloaded and am working to transition my current blog to it. It’s beautiful. I’m now in the process of tweaking a few things. I have a question regarding the post format. Right now a blog post has a sidebar as a default. Is there a way for me to get rid of the sidebar so that everything would be centered and would take advantage of the full width?

Thanks, Azhar

intheme

Hey,

I think it is possible by editing few places. It won’t be centered though, but you’ll be able to take the advantage of full width. Also some core files will have to be edited, so you’ll have to redo these steps after each update.

First edit index.php file and remove this line:

<?php get_sidebar( 'blog' ); ?gt;

Then on the same file remove a CSS class that says “site-with-sidebar”.

Lastly edit user.css file and add the following:

body.blog {
    margin: 0 15px;
}

This should do the trick.

Amazing theme, thanks for your hard work on this!

One question, is there any way to embed the actual social icons into the menu items? I know some themes allow this – please advise, thanks!

intheme

Hey, thanks,

it depends what do you mean by that. If you mean that you want to have Facebook like button in your main menu, then it’s not possible, if you mean that you would like to have an menu item with Facebook logo next to it, then it’s not possible by default, but could be achieved with some custom CSS.

Can you show me the example of such functionality?

Thanks, Vilius

Default-user

Thx for the reply Villius! I was referring to the latter functionality, just a link. A css example would be something like thecityofkings.com – where we can just reference css within the menu item (like you said) etc. THANKS!

intheme

That’s much clearer, unfortunately it’s not very trivial to do so I’m unable to give you exact instructions. I’m sure someone with some CSS/HTML experience could help you with that.

Regards, Vilius

Default-user

Understood – can there at least be a minimalistic version of the icons option (vs. the colorful ones)? Also, would we be able to contract you to apply the feature (putting in header via css) by chance? :)

intheme

Hey,

you could try adding this to your user.css file:

.icon-social:before {
    color: #333 !important;
}

This will remove the color from the icons making them dark gray.

Also there are alternative versions of social icons, they come with the theme, but you need to activate them by editing inc/options.php

Find a line that says:

$html .= '<a class="icon-social icon-' . $network . '-circled" href="' . esc_url ( $option ) . '" target="_blank" title="' . $title . '" rel="nofollow"></a>';

and make it like this

$html .= '<a class="icon-social icon-' . $network . '" href="' . esc_url ( $option ) . '" target="_blank" title="' . $title . '" rel="nofollow"></a>';

I’m not sure how good that will look, but they should look lighter.

As of contracting, I’d really wish to help you but right now I’m super busy and there’s no way I could squeeze in anything extra.

Is there anyway to have just a certain “project type” from the portfolio displayed on a page?

Example: Portfolio project type = “Ocean” Page created called = “Ocean”

I want to display ONLY the ocean images from the ocean project type displayed on the ocean page. I can only get it to display everything in the portfolio on the ocean page. Is there a shortcode or some work around to achieve this? I want to avoid having to insert a separate NextGen gallery into the ocean page just to display a certain type of image.

Thanks!

Just thinking in regards to my previous question. It may be cool to be able to create different “Portfolios”. Then within each portfolio, be able to create “Project Types”. then, if a user selects “Grid Portfolio” from Page Attributes, they’d have an option as to which “Portfolio” to display or ALL.

Just a thought. I’ve been rackin my head for several days trying to figure out how to get a second grid on a page with just one Project Type on it.

intheme

Hey,

how about this solution: go to Appearance > Menus and add project type Ocean to your main menu. This will introduce new menu item, clicking it will show all the projects that were “tagged” with Ocean project type. It looks like this should work for you, does it?

Cheers, Vilius

Thanks for the response! I actually ended up creating a page for each category, then redirecting the portfolio page to the new page where a NextGen gallery lives with the images for that particular category.

I am having a problem with one of my portfolio pages. I have a menu item of Scenic Views, under this item I have a page called The City. Scenic Views displays as a grid portfolio just fine, however The City refuses to display the pictures in grid format and no matter what I do reverts back to horizontal. Please help?

michaelbandy.com

intheme

Hey,

you have two different types of pages here: Scenic View is portfolio project index page, which displays all your projects. It may come in two different layouts, horizontal or grid (the one that you use). The City is a project page, and project pages support only one type of layout which is horizontal. Unfortunately Grid Layout for project detail pages are not in the plans.

So how can I have a main project index page (i.e. scenic views) and separate gallery pages (i.e. – city, beach, mountains, etc.) that can be displayed in either grid or horizontal layouts?

intheme

Hey,

I’m not quite sure what structure you are trying to achieve, but it looks like you are after multiple portfolios. I’ve written a documentation section that describes it in more detail, you can find it here – http://inthe.me/documentation/fluxus/#multiple-portfolios-101

Let me know if that helps.

Ok. So I have done the above and see no way to change the project “The City” to display a grid layout. Is this not possible with your theme? It seems like it should be a pretty basic feature. Main gallery with various sub-galleries, each sub gallery has pics displayed in grid format. Example – http://darrenwhitephotography.com/p160372316

intheme

Oh, unfortunately grid layout for project detail page is not possible, only for project list. And I’m afraid there’s no quick way to enable it. Sorry for that.

Hello! I’ve a little problem to set the title of my site… I try to change it from fluxus theme options and general settings options, but, it still remains as “Fluxus”; if i override the text with mouse pointer, i see an “alt” message with my title. On the contrary only subtitle works well…how could i do to change it?

Thank you!

Hello Vilius,

going back to my earlier request, will you be able to now help me with adding custom social icons to the bottom right footer of my portfolio?

I also have another request I need help with – with the Contact page is there any way I can just have the actual contact form pop up? So when users click on the ‘Contact’ link then the form pops up instead of a full page.

If it’s better to address these Qs by e-mail, you can reach me on: tunmisea@hotmail.co.uk

I assume that you already know … but the theme does not work in IE8! There are several problems with uploading images and the iscroll.js Oh my god… This is a blow to my project ┬┐corrections, ideas…?

Hey,

yes, I’m aware of this and it is noted in the theme compatibility specs. I’m planning to add partial support in future releases, meanwhile I recommend you to add Google Chrome Frame to your website. It has seamless installation and there’s already a large user base that have it installed. https://developers.google.com/chrome/chrome-frame/

Perhaps you have made ??some progress with the Fluxus-slider for future versions IE8 now you can share?

Love this theme, really been enjoying the setup of this. Had a few things I’ve been trying to do but been running into problems.

  1. I’d like to enable the grey toolbar at the top of the page for logged in users/admins. I find it very useful for quickly managing a site. From everything I’ve been reading, including wp_footer(); in the footer should enable it, but it doesn’t. Did you do something specific to disable this feature?
  2. I’ve been trying to add a widget in a flyout side menu like the sample page has for the light/dark selector. Is that built in or a separate plugin?
  3. I’ve also run into a bit of a problem combining this theme with the SHOPP shopping cart plugin. It creates Products and Categories which work almost exactly the same as the Portfolios and Project Types. What I’d really like is to combine the two and not have to manage two separate entities for every item I’m posting. Any Pointers on how to do this would be great.
I did have one suggestion, I’ve found it much easier to modify this theme using Child themes than modifying the built in user.php/.css/.etc. files. If you receive a lot of questions about this, changing your process to explain how to make a child theme for fluxus might help.

That’s it for now. Thanks for the great theme, I’ll send you a link to my finished site when complete.

intheme

Hey,

here are some answers.

1. You are right, I’ve disabled the toolbar since it is occupying the precious horizontal space. You can enable it by adding this to your user.php file:

function fluxus_custom_init() {
    remove_all_filters( 'show_admin_bar' );
    if ( ! is_admin() ) {
        add_theme_support( 'admin-bar', array( 'callback' => '__return_false') );
    }
}

add_action( 'init', 'fluxus_custom_init', 1 );

2. Ah… this flyout widget is a separate plugin used only for changing skin. I’ve made it myself, so it’s not even reusable : /

3. It’s not an easy thing to do. I guess you’ll need an experienced person who could analyze the SHOPP plugin and see what could be the best way to merge the two. Probably a better way would be just to find some sort of workaround.

As of child themes, this is a first request. So far I think that even if child themes are not very sophisticated, they might cause quite a few questions for Wordpress beginners. Also I guess that people who are more advanced users manage to use child themes without any instructions. It’s a good point though, worth considering next time I write the docs.

Hope this helps! Drop me a link once you’ve finished! I’d like to see how Fluxus goes with shopping cart ;-)

My last edit and it’s done!

When i click on a link under “PROJECT TYPES” in the sidebar, it takes me to that category’s thumbnail. I then have to click on it and am then taken to the page with the images for that category.

Is there a way to bypass the “portfolio” direct in the URL so that it goes directly to the categories page? Does that make sense? I noticed the 2nd (unwanted) page has “portfolio” in the url. After i click on the thumbnail, the “portfolio” is gone from the URL. I have screenshots i can provide for reference.

Thanks a mucho!

intheme

Hey,

it’s quite strange. Can you provide me with some links so I could see where you click and what’s happening.

I found a simple solution to bypass. I inserted a text widget in the sidebar. Using the “Widget-Logic” plugin, i directed it to the pages i wanted it displayed on. Then just coded some simple HTML in the text widget and did a direct link to the pages i had listed. Simple bypass method. Thanks for the reply though!

Hey,

there’s WPML plugin, it is quite popular, but I’m not sure if it works 100%. Most likely it should.

It’s not free though, but they provide support and since having multilingual Wordpress website is not the easiest thing to do then I think the support should be useful.

Hi Vilius!

Hey man this image size thing is driving me a little crazy lol! Maybe you can clear things up a little for me. Below is a copy of an earlier answer from you on the subject – but this is the confusing part:

You say the images aspect ratio should be 16:9 but at the same time say that the size you recommend (and is scaled) to 1920×1280. Well 16:9 would equal 1920X1080 (Not 1280). And, still trying to discover best size for portrait oriented images.

Am I just terribly confused here? Any thoughts would help.

Thanks

“intheme AUTHOR 17 days ago Hey, you should upload images that are at least 1920×1280 in size. This is my recommended size. Also note that any bigger image will get automatically downscaled to 1920×1280. Also aspect ratio is very important on full page slider. The most popular screen aspect ratio is 16/9, so should be your images”

intheme

Hey,

oh no, that’s my mistake! It should have been 1920×1280 rather than 1920×1080.

Let’s figure out what is exactly driving you crazy you ;-) Two questions: which part of the website concerns you – full page slider or portfolio? Do you have an example where your portrait image does not look good on your website?

I guess the problem is that I think that every big enough image uploaded to the website should look good, while you think differently :-)

Cheers, Vilius

Default-user

Oh man, totally misrepresented myself here! Didn’t mean the sizing was a problem with the theme – Fluxus is absolutely awesome – no sizing issues with the theme itself!! Oh and I love big images, One of the many reasons I like these theme so much!

Just was trying to find a definitive size to go with, before I spent time exporting and uploading etc. Very time consuming process.

Ok, so definitely 1920×1280 And portrait oriented 1280px tall and whatever width the images style takes up? Correct?

Thanks for the support!

intheme

Oh right, that’s correct! I can’t wait to see those portraits!

Hi Vilius, Are there plans in the works for true multiple portfolios? (Not utilizing project type tags)?

intheme

Hey,

I was considering it, but it’s no longer in the plans. Mainly because of implementation issues. There’s no way of doing it nicely (as far as I know). Maybe you’ve seen a theme that has it? Why would you like to use “true” multiple portfolios? Do you want to use grid portfolio and horizontal portfolio on one website?
