Hi Vilius

First of all, thanks for your work on this great theme. It’s the first time I bought a commercial theme and I am completely happy with it.

One question: I am using pretty permalinks to use a “postname” slug in the URL, which works fine for blog posts. However, the URLs for portfolios look like this: www.mysite.com/portfolio/uncategorized/myportfolioname

How can I get rid of the “uncategorized”? I have tried to use a custom “Project Type” category but even then the URL shows “uncategorized”...

Thanks for your support.

intheme

Hey,

I’m glad you like it! The issue you are having is a bit strange. If you assign at least on Project Type to your project, then there should not be uncategorized part in the URL. Is there a link where I could see your website?

Cheers, Vilius

Sorry, of course you are right. Adding a project type has changed “uncategorized” to whatever the project type is called (don’t know why it wouldn’t work earlier – forgot browser refresh?).

However, I would prefer not to have the project type showing up in the portfolio URLs at all if not set, like it doesn’t in post URLs. For now I have changed sidebar-portfolio-single.php so that at least it doesn’t show up in the sidebar… But is there a way to further customize portfolio permalinks?

Thanks a lot.

BTW here is the site I am working on: http://www.jodenison.co.uk

intheme

Hey,

well… it’s possible, but it’s tricky and I honestly wouldn’t suggest messing with it. Basically the issue is that if you don’t use category part in the url, then Wordpress can’t recognize if a link points to a project type or a project, for example:

/portfolio/design /portfolio/design-project

The way Wordpress works is that it defines a url structure for single type of page. You might add some workaround to make it work, but I guess it’s not worth it.

Hi there, im trying to use, what Glark has in his main page http://glark.org/ which is: hidden by def. title of the post (showing on mouse on) + for some reason, when i try to set this title dialog to custom, on firefox, the box is unmovable :( is there any solution for it?

+ Can I completly remove the footer in fullscreen slide so my images are even bigger?

Thanks a lot!

Cheers

intheme

Hey,

hiding stuff is always good, you can do this by adding the following to your user.css file:

.home #footer {
    display: none;
    height: 13px !important;
}

This will hide the footer on your homepage.

The show on mouse on is the default behavior so it should be working. I’d need to see your website and check if there’s something that caused it to stop working this way.

Setting custom position might stop working because of JS error, which could be caused by plugins. So my suggestion is to disable any plugins, update FF and see if it works. If no, then I could take a look if you’d provided me with login details to your website.

I have not heard back from you…. My portfolio images in http://www.photosbychrismartin.com/portfolio/commercial/commercial-photography/ are overlapping when they are in a panoramic state (longer width then height) Can you please help?

Thanks so much!

intheme

Hey,

sorry for not getting back to you. Could you provide a screenshot of overlapping images? Right now they all look good on 13” monitor, except one minor issue. When using arrows to navigate between photos, the right half of the images gets cut of by the screen. This is fixed in the 1.2 version (you are using 1.1 at the moment) by centering the images in the middle of the screen rather than aligning with start of the menu.

It starts at the 6th image on that link I gave you – here is a screen shot http://www.photosbychrismartin.com/screenshot/Screen%20Shot%202013-04-23%20at%201.18.40%20PM.png

Hello! Thanks for very good theme!

I have some questions: - first, i have problem with multiple portfolio: i create 2 project types (1 – art, 2 – graphic design). Add this project types to menu. If i go to project detail page and press button “to category” i get all projects from all project types (but must get only one project type (same as last project).

- with this menu (create 2 project types (1 – art, 2 – graphic design), add this project types to menu) if i go to project detail page – there is no yellow marker on menu item.

- last problem – i can’t create grid portfolio only with adding project type to menu and without creating page with grid portfolio. If i add project type to menu without creating page – i get horizontal portfolio

sorry – can’t send link, because make site on local server(

intheme

Hi,

1. Which button do you refer as “to category”? Do you mean “Back to portfolio”?

2. I’ve just checked it and I must confirm that there’s a bug. I’ll fix it with the next version.

3. When Fluxus theme tries to display portfolio items it has to choose which layout to use. By default it uses horizontal layout, but if there’s an existing page that has Grid Portfolio set as a template, then it assumes that this is the preferred layout. Is there any issue of creating the page with Grid Portfolio and not adding it to the menu?

Cheers, Vilius

Thank you very much for answers! 1. Sorry – yes, it is “back to portfolio” button (i use russian language and forgot right name of this button) 3. Ok – it’s not a problem – but can this hidden page go to search index (google and etc)?

Default-user

Can You help me, please, with my 2 questions….

intheme

Hey,

1. So I guess you are aiming for “Back to Project Type” functionality. But it’s tricky to do, mainly because projects can have multiple project types, so there’s no way to know which one to “go back to”. If you are OK with limiting your projects so that they have only one project type, then I might be able to give you the instructions that would change “Back to portfolio” button into “Back to category”.

2. As long as no page links to that hidden page, then Google should not index it. And even if somehow finds it, I doubt that this page will appear among search results for your website as it will have lower page rank due to the fact that no internal page links to it.

Cheers, Vilius

Default-user

Hello! Thank You very much!!! It will be wonderfull, if You can give me this instructions!!!

intheme

Hey,

so you’ll have to edit single-fluxus_portfolio.php

Find a line that says:
?>
<a href="<?php echo esc_url( get_permalink( fluxus_portfolio_base_id() ) ); ?>" class="button-minimal back-portfolio"><?php _e( 'Back to portfolio', 'fluxus' ); ?></a>

and change it to this

$tags = wp_get_post_terms( $post->ID, 'fluxus-project-type' );
if ( $tags ) {
    $back_to_link = get_term_link($tags[0], 'fluxus-project-type');
} else {
    $back_to_link = get_permalink( fluxus_portfolio_base_id() );
}

?>
<a href="<?php echo esc_url( $back_to_link ); ?>" class="button-minimal back-portfolio"><?php _e( 'Back to portfolio', 'fluxus' ); ?></a>

This will take the first project type of your post and generate a “Back to” link for it. As long as you are using one project type per project, this should work perfectly.

Cheers, Vilius

Hi. How do I allow comments on a page? (the allow comments box is checked but it does not show on the page)

Also, how do I get support? Should I post here or there is a support forum?

Thanks.

intheme

Hey,

you can add comments to pages by modifying content-page.php file. Near the end of the file change it from this:

    </div>
</article>
to this
    </div>
    <?php comments_template(); ?>
</article>

The support forum is in the works, meanwhile feel free to post your questions here.

Hello there. This is the first time I’ve used an external theme for Wordpress. Apologies in advance for my ignorance ;) I have just downloaded and installed your theme on my website. I have played around with it a little, but cannot see how to do many of the things that the demo site showed. For example, I would like to set full screen gallery as a landing page. Could you please advise? Thanks – Matt

Hey Villius,

Thanks for all the great work and great support! I have 2 more questions: 1. Is there an easy way to display the description of the project type via a widget (that one can set on the project type page)? That would be useful to add a specific description to each type sub-portfolio, instead of having only a general one, since we can’t have true multiple portfolio for now. 2. I could not find the answer on themeforest so how can I change the color of the little yellow dots on the bottom left corner of the full page slider? Thanks!

intheme

Hey,

it’s quite easy to show project type description on project type page. It can be done by inc/widgets/widget-project-types.php file.

Find a second line that says

echo $args['before_widget'];

And change it into something like this:

if ( $active_tag && $active_tag->description ) {
    echo $args['before_widget'];
    echo '<div class="textwidget">' . $active_tag->description . '</div>';
    echo $args['after_widget'];
}

echo $args['before_widget'];

This will output project type description (if it exists) before project type navigation widget.

Regarding the full page slider yellow dots, you can change them into red by adding this to your user.css file:

.slider-navigation li a.active,
.slider-navigation li a:hover {
    background: red;
}

Hello, great theme! I was wondering before I decide to buy if there is a way we can put in a logo within the “hello homepage”. I noticed that the background image you have on the demo is dependant on the browser size. If i would like a logo always to the left of the description box.

Thanks!

intheme

Hey,

where exactly are you willing to put the logo? In the background or in the description box?

You can put anything in the background. And you are right, it is browser size dependent, since it tries to occupy whole available space. Anything that does not fit is cropped. It’s possible to specify which part of the image should get cropped.

If you are willing to put a logo in the description, then it only be possible to put it inside text area that says “This is a good place…”. If you are willing to put it somewhere else, then you’ll have to modify some CSS.

Hope this clears things up.

Cheers, Vilius

Default-user

we simply want it to the left or right of the text area, so if it can be inside but to the left or right of the text that would work too, is that possible?

intheme

Hi,

yes this is possible. The textarea supports inserting images inside the content and aligning them right or left. Just to be sure here’s a screenshot: http://cl.ly/image/1H322J1p472b – the FLUXUS is an image, which could be your logo instead.

Cheers, Vilius

can it be centered?

Default-user

also is there a way with any of the homepage templates we can have just one image centered? for example on teh slideshow template, we would just want one image which would be a logo as a static image centered

Hi Vilius, I love your Template very much, is so timeless and modern!

I have only a little problem which I cannot solve: When I set up the slider, the Slide Change Interval is set to 2. When I want to change that to 4 it doesn’t work, it always gets back to 2. I want to change it, so visitors have enough time to read the text on the slide.

Thank You!! :) Henrik

Don’t worry, I found the answer by myself. At least it seems to be working now. I used to change the interval, close the slider window and then I saved the page, and this was probably not right. What I did now was close the slider window, but then I did not save the page, and now it works! :)

intheme

Oh right! Thanks for explaining! I tried to replicate it and indeed it does not work if you close the Media popup too quick. People were having troubles with it before, but then it just kept starting to work for them and I was unable to track it down. Now I know what’s the issue and I’ll fix it.

Thanks again, Vilius

Default-user

I’m glad I could help :) Everything works perfect now, all I have to do is add my content.

One more thing though, I added a copy paste protection plugin (MHR), and it does work on my desktop computer but not on my smartphone. Another plugin I’ve tried, caused an error message on my website.

Is there a plugin that you recommend for your Template?

That would maybe be a good add-on to the template, cause photographers are worried about protecting their work which in this case also have a high resolution.

Thanks!! Henrik

intheme

Hey Henrik,

the sad truth is that when you publish your images online there’s no way to prevent them from stealing. Either you put a massive watermark and uglify the image and make it useless, or you just give everyone a beautiful piece of art without worrying that someone is about to steal it.

Disabling right click will annoy normal visitors and won’t prevent prevent people with bad intentions to download it. Actually all you have to do is to go to your web browser options and disable JavaScript and all of these plugins become useless.

My advice would be to provide a clear copyright message telling that all the images were created by hard work and reusing is strictly forbidden without author’s prior consent. That’s the plugin I prefer ;-)

Cheers, Vilius

Default-user

Hi Vilius! Thanks for the information, well, I guess I have to place a Copyright message on all the pictures. Most of my pictures have a very low jpg compression, so at least they won’t print very good.

Hello. Is it possible to change the slideshow transitions from the slide/wipe effect to fade-in/fade-out? Can the stop/pause on hover be removed?

Thank you!

intheme

Hey,

it is going to be possible to change the slide effect in the next version. Which should have been released last Sunday, but there were some issues as always. Should come in a few days though!

There’s no stop/pause on hover. The slideshow stops only if a user makes any input (manually switches to the next slide), are you willing to disable it?

Hi there – just installed the theme – love it, thanks! The website has been running for a couple of months on a different theme, so it already has quite a few blog posts and content.

I’ve installed your theme and done some basic setting up here www.lleucu.com

I’ve set up a page called ‘Blog’ based on the description of how to do this in your documentation. However, could you explain why there is nothing in the left side bar, please? On another page (set up during the previous theme) ‘AM | ABOUT LLEUCU’ it does show up, i.e. categories, search, RSS etc. but on the new ‘BLOG’ page I just have blog posts. I would like to have the same information as on the ‘AM | ABOUT LLEUCU’ page. Is this possible? Many thanks Matt

intheme

Hey,

so sidebars are used to display any kind of widgets. Probably right now your sidebars are empty because you don’t have any widgets assigned to them. Go to Appearance > Widgets, on the right you will have 5 sidebars used by Fluxus theme and on the left you will have all your available widgets.

Try dragging simple Text widget into your Blog Sidebar and then checking the Blog page to see if some new stuff appeared inside the sidebar.

Let me know if that helped.

Hi Villus,

I’m so happy with your beautiful creation! I just begin to use it. Well, I tried to use your button’s shortcode to change their appearance, but it seems I really don’t know where to put those, on the main page? all pages? menu? portfolio? I tried, but didn’t succeed… Do I have to rename the shortcode with the name of the button? Sorry if my question seems simple, I just discover the wordpress world… Thanks a lot for your support!

David

intheme

Hey David,

I’m glad you like the design! Shortcodes are tiny special snippets that should go to your page or post content. Once inserted they will become some special page element for the users that will visit that page. So for example if you write this into your page content:

[button url="#" style="yellow"]Button #1[/button]

Then when someone will visit your page they will see a yellow button.

I’m not quite sure if this answers your question, if not then please let me know what are you willing to achieve with using shortcodes.

Hi Vilius, thanks for your answer. Actually, what I was speaking about is maybe not what I need. Here, the menu is highlighted in yellow, as for some details like the little clock circle in the front page/slide-show, as well arrows in the footer. Actually, the activated things are highlighted in yellow. Then, I would prefer to have it in the color code #D8D8D8. How should I do that? David

intheme

Oh right,

so you are willing to change the color throughout the site. I’m going to add color picker in future versions, meanwhile it’s possible by adding custom rules to your css/user.css file.

There’s a documentation section describing how to do it:

Hi! Brilliant theme!

One thing though, and apologies if this been asked before.

In your Gallery pages, clicking on the small thumbs opens the nice full screen slideshow. In my case, clicking on the thumbs opens their attachment or media-file page (depends on which is chosen), not the nice slideshow.

Am I missing something?

Cheers

intheme

Hey,

thanks! When creating a gallery there’s an option which allows to choose where your gallery photos should link to.

There are two options: Attachment Page and Media File

By defaults it’s set to Attachment Page, but if you change it to Media File, then your gallery images will be shown in the Lightbox.

I’ve updated the docs as well as it’s quite a common question: http://inthe.me/documentation/fluxus/#gallery-59

Hello guys,

I´m recently working on a portfolio site for a wedding photographer couple. Now I´m wondering how it is possible to configure the displaying of the project types? In which template it will displayed. Recently I created a “portfolio” site wich containes six “portals” which point to the project type site. But those project types are instantly displayed as “horizontal portfolio”. I would like to change that to “grid portfolio”. Thank you for help!

cheers, fabi

Hey Fabi,

currently it’s not possible, but since this is the most requested feature, I’ll make it possible to specify different template for certain project types. It’s not going to happen in the next release, but I’ll work on it straight after.

Hey Vilius Man!

I’ve finally got my site to almost complete – and didn’t have to bother you at all :) Not that I know anything about coding and css and all that! It’s only thanks to a great theme, good documentation and my good friend google haha!

But on a couple of things your help would be greatly appreciated!

1) On the blog/article page, the last item image doest not size to the proper dimensions and overlaps into the navigation sidebar. And also, what I think is a known issue … the navigation sidebar doesn’t resize properly when the window is resized. Already on your fix-it list perhaps?

2) This is the really important one to me: The “full screen” mode in the lightbox seems to enlarge images way larger than their actual size and so displays a very bad zoomed-in version. I noted that even on your demo page. To simulate the problem, hit the full screen icon on any image, then go forward to the next image and back to the original – the image will now be displayed much larger than it should be. Would be great if you could tell me how to limit the zoomed-in size to “only” as large as the uploaded image. Which of course based on our last discussion should be max 1920px by 1280px

Really wanting to set my site free into the wild as soon as possible, so any help/thoughts would be awesome! Oh and you said you wanted a look at the site when it was open. Well it’s here: http://fluentlight.com/

Thanks man, and looking forward to the update!

~ Cliff

intheme

Hey Cliff,

sorry for the delay while getting back to you. I see you made a lot of progress! That’s great! As for your questions:

1. This is a bug, thanks for notifying. I’ve just fixed it and include it in the next update.

2. This used to be a bug, but I’ve fixed it already and since you have the latest version it should be fixed too. I’ve checked it again on FF and Chrome just to be sure and it worked correctly. Can it be your browser cache? Maybe you could try clearing the cache and see if the problem persists.

Regarding your website, I might have few tips if you’re interested. I think you could improve your logo a bit and reduce the amount of social widgets. Right now you can find one on the top right, top left and bottom left of your website :-) I would be very surprised if they provide much value. Also after checking your source code, there’s an issue with HTML doctype. You have duplicate <html> tags, probably by editing header.php you could fix it.

Other than that diligent piece of work!

Cheers, Vilius

Default-user

Hey man!

1) Ok I’m mostly using and developing on Mac Safari, and it’s definitely not a cache issue – I’m a cache resetting/deleting junkie haha! Just checked both, your demo site, and my site again in Chrome and the issue of resizing to larger than original is still evident. I can send you a screen grab of an image on your demo site if you want. Not sure what to do about this.

2) Any tips on the site are very much appreciated! Not sure how to accommodate the social … the three you mention, each perform different functions! But will definitely re-visit. And here I thought I was soo smart registering a new widget for the header and all :p

Duplicate html tags? Will certainly try and correct that, not that I even understand the issue or solution at the moment – will google it.

3) Any thoughts on the inability to get a link to show up in the portfolio page, when using on mobile? Is there something I can do?

Thanks for the “diligent” part, means more coming from the guy that coded such an amazing theme! Funny everyone notices the “photos” part … But the beauty of this theme also extends to the “blog” section! One of my readers noted, and I quote: “Love the way the blog is set up, clean, creative, and highly readable”!

Thanks Vilius, looking forward to the update!

Great theme!

I’m attempting to create multiple portfolio’s one called ‘Portfolio’ and one called ‘Projects.’ I’ve followed the instructions on how to do this, I’ve set-up the parent and children but when I hover over the links for each I get the following taxonomy for the parent project types:

/portfolio/portfolio/ & /portfolio/projects/

Then the child of /portfolio/projects looks like the following: /portfolio/abandoned-doorways/

Should it not be /projects/abandoned-doorways/ otherwise, what keeps the projects from showing up in the portfolio? And the link structure should revert to /projects/abandoned-doorways/. Can and how do I make this happen?

intheme

Hey,

thanks! Are you having an actual issue with projects showing up in the portfolio categories where they shouldn’t be or you are just concerned how it works?

The default URL structure is like this: portfolio-base-slug / portfolio-type-slug / project-slug

portfolio-base-slug – is a slug of a page that has Horizontal Portfolio or Grid Portfolio template. If there’s no such page, then it defaults to “portfolio”.

So to display a project you already need 3 levels in the URL. Adding nested URLs would increase this even more, so I thought it was ok not to include nested project types and to use only the active project type in the URL. The way it knows about parent categories is by checking if current category has any parents and not looking at the URL. For example when you visit abandoned-doorways project type, Wordpress checks if it has any parent project types, if it does, they are displayed in the sidebar.

That’s a good question though!

Cheers, Vilius

Default-user

I just tested putting something in a project, and things show up as they should in the sidebar, so that’s good. I’m still bothered by the URL structure, though. :)

If I understand correctly, if I have a page called “Projects” then my URL structure should be /projects/portfolio-type/project-slug/, so should the page or the project type be in my menu? Also, should all my projects/portfolio items be showing up on the parent pages in the main nav (cause they aren’t).

Here’s the site URL if you want to take a gander. I’ll be working on it today. http://iso640.com/

intheme

The page that has a Grid Portfolio or Horizontal Portfolio set as a template not necessarily need to be in the menu. If it is, then it will show all of your projects.

So I suggest you should do the following:

1. Create a page with Horizontal Portfolio template and set it’s slug to “works”.

2. Create following Project Types

Portfolio Landscape Street Photography

Projects Abandoned Doorways (this is only if you are planning to have more than one project for this project type, for example Abandoned Doorways in Textas and Abandoned Doorways in Moscow) :-)

3. Add these Project Types to your menu, but leave the horizontal portfolio page out of menu.

This way you should get URLs like:

works/projects works/abandoned-doorways works/abandoned-doorways/abandoned-doorways-in-texas

works/portfolio works/landscape works/landscape/forests-in-alaska

As of your question “should all my portfolio items be showing up on the parent pages in the main nav” could you clarify what is parent pages in main nav?

Thanks, Vilius

Default-user

Hey Vilius, Thanks so much for the explanation/walk through… I’m getting there.

One last question, though. I’ve got things working as you suggested. I created a “works” page as you said but my one remaining problem is when I click on “projects” nothing shows on the page except the left nav (project types). What file would I need to edit to make those portfolio items/projects show up like they do on the “works” page?
