Hey there! Great looking theme. I’ve installed wordpress and the theme, but how do I go about installing the sample data? I can’t seem to find the files…

WPExplorer

Thank’s for the purchase!

Please have a look here: http://www.wpexplorer.org/knowledgebase/uploading-your-xml-sample-data/

Cheers, but I still can’t see the “sample” folder or files in the Theme Zip file…

WPExplorer

Make sure when you download the zip you are clicking where it says “main files”.

The Home Page….can it be custom or does it HAVE to default to the one you create in the theme options? I simply want to create my own home page using a full width page, but it always defaults to the drag and drop home page :( , did i miss something?

WPExplorer

You didn’t miss anything. It’s because the homepage uses front-page.php – if you delete this file (or rename in case you want it back) then you can use a plain static page – http://codex.wordpress.org/Template_Hierarchy

Hi there,

I have two questions which hopefully you can help me out:

1. When viewing the content of a portfolio item, what do I have to change to make the layout full-width rather than 2 column? 2. Same as above, but how would I be able for the text columnn to wrap around the image and continue 1 column?

Best, Matteo

WPExplorer

1. You’ll need to edit your CSS accordingly. You’ll have to make the #single-portfolio-media and #single-portfolio-content divs have a width of 100%. You might want to also change the default cropping for the images under functions/ image-default-sizes.

2. You’d have to remove the float from the right column so that it wraps around the left column.

Unfortunately customizations are not included in the cost of the theme, please keep all questions issue/bug related. Thanks!

Sorry, one more thing,

How do I add typekit integration rather than google fonts? where do I have to place the html snippet?

Best,

Matteo

WPExplorer

The Typekit snippet goes in your header. Best method is via a function and hooking into the wp_head hook.

If you aren’t sure how, maybe this plugin can help: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/typekit-fonts-for-wordpress/

I have already sent one email but now find myself with a third question. Neither the flex or the responsive slider pull posts, they are simply image sliders. So if wanting to add another slider such as Smooth Slider according to the layout of the template one should be able to install the shortcode in the bottom box of the slider category and be ready to go!

However upon doing that and testing it on another site have discovered this is not the case and it does not work that way.

So was wondering if you could help with this issue, any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks Ahead of Time Pat

WPExplorer

Hi there,

Actually the slider does pull posts. It pulls the posts from the “Slides” post type. You can easily edit the template to pull posts from other post types such as the blog or portfolio…or any other post type. If you open content-slider.php you can change the post type to pull from on line 18:

'post_type' => 'slides',

Regarding the second part… I have no idea what you mean by “install the shortcode in the bottom box of the slider category and be ready to go”. Shortcodes aren’t “installed” and I don’t know what you mean by “bottom box of the slider category”.

If you want to use the shortcode for another plugin on the homepage you can add it to front-page.php within the do_shortcode() function – http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/do_shortcode

Default-user

Hey Thanks for getting back so quick! Thanks for that great tip. On the theme options under slider at the bottom is a box titled Slider Alternate! Directions for the box say to add the shortcode here of another slider.

Here is the instructions per beta “Use this field to insert a shortcode or other HTML to replace the default flexslider”

You also answered this question so I thank you for that as well.

Default-user

Thanks for the quick response and for the informative answer. However I’m not sure I’m getting this sorry

I want to change out flex slider for smooth slider under theme options slider section at the bottom of the page there is a box for the alternative slider with instructions beside it that say “Use this field to insert a shortcode or other HTML to replace the default flexslider”

I have tried entering the shortcode for smoothslider in the box but it does not appear to be working. Excuse me for being dense not sure how to get the wordpress code working and tried changing the word slider to blog in the example you listed in the content slider.php file so far nothing working.

Would appreciate any further help you can suggest here!

Blessings Pat

WPExplorer

Oh gotcha,

Sorry pat it appears I made a little error. IN front-page.php where it says “slides_alt” on lines 9 and 11 it should read “slider_alternative”.

If you want to open a ticket at the support site – http://wpexplorer.org I can provide you with the udpated file. I’ll be sure to update the theme here as well ;)

Default-user

Will Do!

WPExplorer

Hi there,

- ThemeForest updated the way you download files very recently it appears the way you get the license is a little different now. You must click on the download link to get it. I will update the support site to reflect the changes, thank you for noting this.

- I understand why you are update. But realize support is provided 100% for free. Why do we handle support in 1 place? Well, with thousands and thousands of customers if we were to handle email, comment and forum support it would be a mess costing us a lot of time and resources for free support and in turn also make it slower for you to receive support. I’ve been super quick at replying to your comments and kind to assist you. And as I said, support isn’t even included in the cost of the theme. Please take a moment to realize you are purchasing a very affordable template and not hiring a costly freelancer to setup your site.

- I pride myself in the support I provide to my customers and the updates I provide for my themes to make sure they work well and are bug free. But realize we are all human and sometimes we do make mistakes. I am not perfect. I hope you are, but in general people do make mistakes. I am more then happy to fix any errors I do make in my themes as customers report them and I do appreciate you reporting this bug.

- Regarding the docs. This is a very simple theme and 99% is based on core WP functions, if you know WP you should know how to use this theme. That said, we do have several videos we’ve created that we will be uploading to youtube soon. We’ve been really busy lately and out of town (yes I’ve been answering you and helping you and I’m not even in the office, im in Vegas).

a) I am sorry you were not clear enough.

b) I am sorry for your troubles. And I have already submitted version 1.1 with the fix. If you had opened a ticket on the support site I could have sent you the update file hours ago.

c) It appears the downloadable file on ThemeForest may not have been the correct version. There might have been a bug in the system and I appologize, this is out of my control though.

d) It is possible. It literally takes a few seconds to figure out how to get your license certificate with a Google search. As mentioned ThemeForest just changed the way this works, so its just bad timing. And I will update the support site.

e) Covered in c.

f) This is the nature of using templates. If you do not want to deal with setting up your website yourself or updating your template, please hire someone to do so. It might even save you time where there are small errors in the template as the freelancer you hire might be able to fix them right away without having to wait for a theme update. Also, knowing your way around the theme you could have just added the slider code directly in the template file in seconds while you waited for the update ;)

The updated version of this theme is currently in the queue and you will receive an email once ThemeForest accepts it. Please see the changelog here – http://www.wpexplorer.org/changelogs/foxy/

I wish you the best of luck with your site! Please use the support site though in the future to not hog down the comments. The comments should be left for pre-purchase questions. Thanks!

WPExplorer

Forgot to mention…another reason for the support site is we don’t want the people we hire for support to be logging into our ThemeForest account as most the money we live off of is in there.

Also I must apologize, I realize I told you to check front-page.php when I meant content-slider.php (lol, obviously).

Default-user

Thanks I will send a support ticket!

WPExplorer

Will keep an eye out ;) If you send me logins as well I can fix the theme for you right away so you don’t even have to wait for the update ;)

hello, first of all great theme. i’m having an issue concerning the homepage. i saw in your documentation the possibility to insert a page into the theme option home page. i wish to insert in the starpage some other text, how can i do that? if i delete the front_page.php, how can i insert the slider, recent posts and the portfolio?

WPExplorer

I just started using front-page.php for my themes because I was getting a lot of questions when I was using a static page for the homepage…it seems to have backfired!

I’ll most likely be making an update today so that it uses a static page instead. This way you can have the text from the static page appear.

Please open a ticket at – http://wpexplorer.org if you want to make sure you get the files when they are updated so you don’t have to wait for them on ThemeForest.

Off the wall question. I currently own your Bloggit theme and I’m thinking about buying the FOXY theme as well. I ran across a menu structure that I like at http://www.brit.co/ and wanted to know if you know of a wordpress plug-in that would give me such a menu structure. Just thought I would ask since you have been very helpful guiding me through Bloggit. Keep up the awesome work!

WPExplorer

Hey there!

I actually haven’t seen a plugin like this…But essentially it’s just a regular WP menu that’s static on the left. It wouldn’t be to difficult to make if you know some basic html/CSS.

Glad you liked Bloggit! I think you’d love Foxy ;)

I appreciate the kind words!

Hello! is it possible to change the background on the foxy theme to dark grey? Also is it possible to remove the recent work slidder so i just have 3 static boxes? One last thing can i change the roll over colour of the social media icons seperate from the menu?

Many thanks, Jason

WPExplorer

Hi Jason,

1. You can use the WordPress background switcher at Appearance->Background to change the color. Not sure though how everything else will look though if you make the background darker.

2. The homepage is setup with drag/drop modules so you can disable any section – http://themeforest.net/theme_previews/4630606-foxy-portfolio-responsive-wordpress-theme?index=2

3. Not via a theme option. But you can easily change the social rollover color via CSS.

Thanks for your help!

Great I’m glad ;)

It’s easy:

1. Click “Add Media” under the title. 2. Select the media library tab 3. Select “uploaded to this post” from the drop-down 4. drag/drop the images to re-order them.

Hi. Looks like a nice theme. One question: Is it possible to get the menu after the slider on the homepage?(Without much coding? :)) I’ve looked at the tutorials but they did’nt say anything about that..

WPExplorer

It wouldn’t be too difficult. What you would do is open front-page.php and delete the following:

<?php get_template_part('content','slider'); ?>

then open header.php and insert the following before the navbar div

<?php if ( is_front_page() ) { ?>
<?php get_template_part('content','slider'); ?>
<?php } ?>

Hi great theme! I just had one question I cant seem to find the answer to. i want to enable featured images on my blog posts but the only image size showing up is the actual photo size ( which sometimes is really big!) is there a way to have the featured images all the same size like in the demo?

WPExplorer

For the blog posts, the images don’t crop vertically. So if they are really tall it’s because thats how they are to start with.

You can either edit the image prior to upload or you can edit your template to crop these – it’s very simple.

Open functions/image-default-sizes.php and locate line 55:

if( $args 'blog_post_height' ) return 9999;

Change the 999 to a height in pixels you want to crop at.

Then on line 56 right below it:

if( $args ‘blog_post_crop’ ) return false;

set the return value to true

Just like Tmaphasa we also wanted a static home page and was unsure after spending hours trying to figure out why we could not get it to work. So thanks for providing an answer. As always right on top of things!

Though as suggested you may want to add a knowledge base article on your support site.

There may be others like us who are having the page number issue where the page numbers are going way out with a lot of boxes, instead of just being 1-3 or 1-7 with an arrow. Wehave 1-368 then an arrow. So was wondering how we might fix this issue. Have left a support ticket on site.

Thanks for all the hard work and efforts

WPExplorer

Hi there WorldPrayer!

- We’ve already released a new version of the site also which completely removes the problems with the front page ;)

- I’ll have a look at the ticket as I am not quite sure what the issue is.

Looove working with this theme but have run into the wall with a seemingly simple change. When making the custom highlight colour match my logo, which is #FFC800, the coloured rollover on the portfolio items is opaque, where your pink/red default one is around 50% opacity. Is there a simple fix for this?

WPExplorer

The issue is there is no real good way to create an rgba color from a hex color. So you’ll have to add some custom CSS to your site yourself.

This is the converter I use: http://hex2rgba.devoth.com/

So for this case you would want to add to your site something like such:

.portfolio-entry-overlay { background: rgba(255, 200, 0, 0.85); }

Awesome… Thank YOU!!!

I just got one problem: I have created a page with the template ‘Page with a Slider’ and in this page, there is a <section> to display the thumbnail of my portfolio items. Hi! New question.. Is it possible to display full blog posts when you navigate to a specific blog category and not the grid? And if, how do I do that`?

Thank you!

WPExplorer

Yes. You’ll have to edit content.php and category.php accordingly. Use a conditional to test what the current category is and if its the category you want to alter show the code you want rather then the default.

Default-user

Can you be more specific? I don’t really understand how to do this.. Sorry :)

WPExplorer

Anything more specific would be writing step by step instructions which would consume too much of my time as it’s not a super quick simple process.

The following link should provide you with what you need to do the correct checks:

http://codex.wordpress.org/Conditional_Tags

If you aren’t a coder you’ll need to find a friend that will make the mod for you or hire someone ;)

Hello,

Fantastic theme, love the look and feel – one question though: Hoping to have two portfolio pages, one with a selected portfolio tag displayed and one with the rest of the tags. Is this something that can be easily achieved?

Many thanks, Tom

WPExplorer

The portfolio tags taxonomy is hierarchical so you should be able to create a parent tag that will include all of the child tags.

Default-user

Okay, thanks – that partly clears that up. I’m trying to create another Custom Post Type which is a duplicate of Portfolio but with the name ‘Archive’ – I am struggling to see how you’ve created the Portfolio custom post type. Is creating a duplicate simple to do? Thanks again!

WPExplorer

Have a look at functions/post-types-taxonomies/register-portfolio.php – you can duplicate this file, search replace the word “Portfolio” then call your new file via functions.php.

That said, there are many great plugins out there for registering new custom post types right via the dashboard.

I was wondering how you added in the icons in the top menu bar?

WPExplorer

It’s very simple and it’s mentioned in the documentation files. Basically you just enter the Font Awesome icon name into your navigation menu item “CSS Classes” field. You can get a list of all the icon names here:

http://fortawesome.github.io/Font-Awesome/icons/

note the icons from 3.2.0 have not been added yet, since they are very new, they will be added in the next theme update.

I’ll make sure to post a little guide in the FAQ soon for this!

Hi,

I just bought and installed your theme; it’s awesome! I’m having a couple of small problems; hope you can help me figure out what i’m doing wrong. 1. I’ve changed the highlight color; unfortunately it only changes the social icons, logo and main menu overlay colors. All the urls are still in the demo-red-orange. Do i have to change something else? 2. How do i change the color of the contact form send button? It’s now green-blue (again a different color from what i’ve picked as highlight color). 3. This question is not really a question concerning you, but what would you recomend to use as a twitter feed plugin (that fits in with the style of Foxy)?

I hope you can help me! Thanks so much!

WPExplorer

Glad you like it so far!

1. The reason it doesn’t change this is because if you pop in a link color in the site header it will override ALL links – menus, metas, sidebars, footers…so I leave it out.

Easiest would be to edit style.css line 133:

body a { color: #e95656 }

2. Ya the button is separate from the highlight. It’s not even the color of the default highlight. Take a look at style.css line 148:

.theme-button.green { background: #3cb38a }

Either edit this line or better add some custom CSS via a plugin or child theme to override it. I’ll add to my list of future updates maybe to add a theme option specifically for this.

3. Twitter just recently changed their whole API so I’m not sure if there are any usable custom twitter widgets that can be styled. Sorry :(

Thanks so much for your fast reply! I’ve worked out the link color and the button highlight for the contact form (by editing more than those lines though). And I’ve found a twitter app; juiz tweets; it’s a bit more complicated than it used to be..but i think i can get it to work :) One more question; is it possible to use different fonts than the ones you implemented? Is that easy to do or do i have to edit a lo of files? Thanks so much!

Hey! I just bought your theme and I really like it so far. :)

Is there any way to sort the images in the gallery? I actually want to use the gallery as my portfolio because it suits it better, but not being able to sort the images in there is bad.

Any ideas? Thanks!

WPExplorer

Glad you like it!

Sorting the images should be very simple ;)

  • Open the page editor for the gallery to edit
  • Click on the “Add Media” button
  • Select “uploaded to this post”
  • Drag and drop your images to re-order
  • Close window
  • Refresh the live page.

Let me know how that works out.

Nemome Purchased

Unfortunately that doesn’t work. I already tried that before. It only changes their order in the media / image window itself but not on the gallery. :(

WPExplorer

Oups sorry, I gave it a try and you are correct. It’s an easy fix though ;)

If you open templates/template-gallery.php you can change the loop (starting on line 30) to look like this:

<?php $wp_query = new WP_Query(array(
'order' => 'ASC', // ADDED THIS
'orderby' => 'menu_order', // ADDED THIS
'paged' => $paged,
'showposts' => '12',
'post_parent' => get_the_ID(),
'post_status' => 'null',
'post_type'     => 'attachment',
'post_mime_type' => 'image/jpeg,image/gif,image/jpg,image/png'
) ); ?>

1. The social icons in the header area done with font awesome and CSS. If you want to use images you’ll have to alter your function. See functions/social-output.php – you can copy this function and put into your child theme and alter. Or edit here manually.

2. Make sure you are pasting the Javascript analytics code and not just your analytics ID.
