Is it possible to set a background image for all pages like with the homepage?
No. There is no full screen background feature.
If you can have it on the homepage, why can it not be implemented on others too?
It can be used on any page that uses the home page template.
Hey loving the theme, just wondered how you make the youtube videos play in the blog without having to actually click in to the post it’s self.
Thanks for your time
Give the post that contains the YouTube video the Video post format and the YouTube player will be added to the latest posts page and post archive pages.
How do you add the twitter etc to the left navigation? I want to add some text content, is this possible?
Create a menu and add it to the Secondary Navigation theme location on the Appearance > Menus screen.
In your demo site, mousing over a thumbnail in a gallery or portfolio shows two icons: to a link and to colorbox. On mine it defaults to to the link, without giving options. How do I set it up like you have it?
On the edit screen of the gallery page, portfolio item or gallery post (whichever it is you want to change) use the “Image Link” option to select which links are displayed when the user hovers over the image in the gallery.
There are a few problems with this template….
On the blog and portfolio pages, there is something that affects the logo and text quality. All other pages are fine, but when you go to those it makes everthing load in poor quality.
When on a tablet, and the hero image loads in, there is a tiny strip down the right side that loads in first, then the rest of the image loads up faded. Leaving the strip on the right normal.
Contact page does not show any information when on a tablet. Works fine on a desktop and mobile, but not on a tablet.
I am not able to replicate any of the issues you pointed out testing on iPad, iPhone, desktop Chrome and Firefox.
Well the contact page is showing blank on mine yet it is fine on iPhone and desktop, but not iPad.
Please let me know your emails address and I will send you the URL.

Hi there. Is there a way to add a fancy box effect to the portfolio mosaic so that you see the images in a lightbox instead of going directly into the post?
Is that a way to have masonry style so that the images maintain their aspect ratios in portfolio mosaic mode?
Lastly, is there a way to have the filters on the sidebar instead of on the header?
I’m trying to achieve this look: http://www.krop.com/muller/#/Thanks.
2.) The images do maintain there aspect ratio.
Portfolio: http://themes.eugeneo.com/franklyn/portfolio/portfolio-mosaic/
Gallery Template: http://themes.eugeneo.com/franklyn/templates/gallery/
3.) No there is not.
This is a really nice theme. Well coded, and well designed. I spent almost 3 days trying to replicate it just for S&G’s (using masonry instead of isotope), and while I got close, yours was still better functionally. I have a couple of minor design nit-picks, but overall it’s one of the best designed WP themes I’ve seen. I bought it just because I learned something trying to recreate it. There’s a nice attention to detail, no stupid hardcoded shortocdes, good semantics, great use of RWD. Nice work.
Thanks for the kind words. The aim was to make it as easy to use a possible and to stick to WordPress standards. It’s provided me with a good base for future themes.
Well, as much as I liked the template from your demo, something’s up with getting it to work for me. After a clean install of WP and installing the theme, many of the admin controls work. I can’t switch between visual/text editor. I can’t enter any content into the main content area, and the add media button is non-functional. Disabling plugins didn’t help (only aksimet and recommended were installed). Thoughts?
ETA. Switching to another theme alleviates the problem. It’s a theme issue. Same issue arises with posts.
I am not able to replicate this issue on the live preview of the theme using the latest version of the theme and WordPress 3.5. I’ll test again later on a clean installation.
It sounds like a Javascript error. Check for error messages in the console of Firebug for firefox or Chrome Developer tools.
I’ve just tested the theme on a clean installation of WordPress and I am not able to replicate this issue. Try clearing your browser cache in case an old JS file is being used.
It was a JS conflict. Fixed.
Out of curiosity what was causing the conflict?
Not sure exactly. I was playing with a different version of jQ, supersized, and masonry as well as isotope and flexslider. When I isolated your WP theme install from my test code and dumped the cache, the issue went away. I didn’t bother to determine the js file that caused the conflict, and I didn’t really look at the errors in the console.
Three questions: 1- whenever I put an image into a gallery (post or page) via “add media”, it also appears underneath as page (or post) content, effectively duplicating the image. Any idea why? 2- In portfolios, the featured image has a lightbox link after clicking through to the standard folio, the other images don’t. Is this expected? 3- the “hide featured image” media option doesn’t seem to do anything at all. What is the intended functionality?
1.) You need to attach the image to the page (this happens automatically when you upload via the specific page) but you do not need to insert the image into the the page after uploading.
2.) Only images shown as the feature image, in a gallery post or page using the gallery template have the lightbox link. Images inserted into a post will not have the lightbox link.
3.) It prevents the feature image from being output at the top of a page, post or portfolio item and removes the feature image from a gallery page or post.
Re: 1- that seems a less-than-ideal way to control the galleries to me. It means you cannot control image order except by upload date, and it also means images can only be part of one gallery, unless uploaded multiple times. You also can’t (easily) switch images from one gallery to another. This explains (I think) why I was having problems moving images around (I’ll have to go back and see what the attachments are).
Re: 3- this feature isn’t working for me.
Update, the feature fails for images that are uploaded vis the media library directly. It also fails for “standard” portfolio type. Galleries work fine.
Galleries are constructed using the built in WordPress functionality of attaching images to posts. How images are attached and switched to other posts is all down to how WordPress.
You can reorder images in a gallery by drag and dropping them in the media uploader. Click Add Media, then select “Uploaded to this page” which shows all the images attached to the page. Then just drag and drop into order.
For the Hide Feature Image option to have any effect the image has to be set as the post’s feature image (click “set feature image” on the page edit screen).
Sorry, I wasn’t very clear. When I try to hide the featured image on a standard portfolio item, it doesn’t work. On a gallery portfolio item it does.
You’re correct. There’s a very simple fix. Create a copy of portfolio-standard.php in the franklyn child theme and replace this line:
if ( has_post_thumbnail() ) {with this:if ( has_post_thumbnail() && !get_post_meta( $post->ID, 'franklyn_hide_feature_image', true ) == 'on' ) {This will then check to see if the hide option is enabled before outputting the feature image on standard portfolio items.
Fixed, thanks.
Hi, is there a size limit for the columns shortcode to work? If I enter very short sentences each value is shown in a single line but when I add the demo text (longer text) it’ll properly align into 3 columns.
There is no minimum content length for columns. Play around with the space between shortcodes in the editor. WordPress can be awkward with how it handles block level shortcodes.
Provide a link to your website so I can see what you mean.
Was able to get my previous question working, now I have a new one
While using a mobile browser I get a list of Pages in a drop down menu, is there some way for it to show the entries that would usually show up in the desktop browser instead?
The items in the mobile list menu are the same as the desktop navigation only displayed in the list style to keep them neater.
The desktop menu will not work on the mobile responsive layout.
Hi Eugene,
Before I buy the theme, I am wondering if it is possible to have two separate portfolios? I would like one portfolio (mosaic) for design work only, and another portfolio (mosaic) for photography. Once you click from the mosaic page, I would like the individual portfolio items to appear in a standard portfolio page post. Is there a way to do this?
It’s important for me to keep them separate, without having to use a filter, but I know in previous themes I’ve already encountered the issue of only having one portfolio option that includes both design and photography together. What would you recommend?
Yes you can have separate portfolios as they are created using a portfolio category hierarchy. As long as the two portfolio categories do not share the same parent the items within them will appear separately.
However, the “next” and “prev” links at the to of the portfolio item navigate through all portfolio items regardless of which portfolio they are in. I think there is a parameter you can add to the line of code that limits the navigation to within the current category.
Hi, it’s possible to have a description on every photo on the homepage slider (in your demo there is the same words “welcome to …..”) and a link to gallery/post? Thx
No it’s not possible. The slider title you see is the page title and excerpt not the image caption.
I’m having an issue with the infinite scroll function. It seems that when the initial images loaded in a portfolio are visible, but the window size is large enough to show the footer as well, the infinite scroll doesn’t load additional images. You can replicate the issue by viewing the demo portfolio (grid, no header) and setting the window size to approx 1460×920.
You need to make sure you set the post per page to a high number so that the initial portfolio items fill the screen.
I would go for around 20 – 40 posts per page.
Hi! Excellent theme.
Just wondering if there is anyway to reinstate the flexslider direction controls? The left and right arrow ones.
Cheers Chris.
There is no built in option to do it. You would have to add it manually.
Hi, any help would be appreciated. I can see that you’ve removed a bit when I compare to the Flexy slider I downloaded. Thanks.
The option to show the direction controls would have been disabled in jquery.custom.js so you will have to re-enable it the uncompressed version of the file in the development folder of the downloaded zip file.
You will then probably have to edit the slider CSS (css/flexslider.css) to style the buttons.
Hi, the theme does look great. I was just wondering about two things, for one I have hade some trouble figuring out how to get the slider work on the home page? I have already greated a new page and used the template for home. And also done some Changes to the settings. But now the problem is how to add the Pictures to the slider? I read in some comment to add it as a featured image, but i can only add one image as featured, and even that doesn’t show upp.
My second question is if there is a posibilty to have a widget on the first page?
I hope you answere back soon.
The slider images must be attached to the page that the slider is going to appear on. Note that attaching an image to a page is not the same as inserting an image into the page content.
http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Image_and_File_Attachments#Attachment_to_a_PostThere is no widget area on the home page template.
Hi, the look/feel is great. I have one issue with uploading images. It hangs at “crunching”. I have no problems uploading when using Twenty Twelve. I tried your theme on Wordpress 3.42 and 3.51 but no luck. The version of Franklyn is 1.7.
As always start by disabling all plugins and maybe try increasing your PHP memory limit and / or execution time (you will have to contact your server host to find out how to do that).
The theme itself doesn’t interfere with image uploading so I don’t know of anything in particular that would cause it.
Hello, some new questions:
1) Is there someway for the sidebar to auto-size text in order to be shown completely? At the moment I have several menu entries but they won’t all show up on lower resolution screens since they won’t fit.
2) I really like the filtering system you implemented for portfolio, is there some way to do the same for posts by category?
Thanks!
Edit to my second question for 26/1/2013: I found the option for the filter by category, is there some way to have it open automatically?
Found the answer to my second question, although the “latest” filter is taking me to the front page, is this intended? First question is still pending
The “Latest” button links to the latest posts page (AKA the blog index). That is intentional as the first page of the blog index shows the most recent posts.
No there is no built in way to adjust the menu text size. The menu was designed to be brief. It’s not the type of theme I envisioned people using for sites with a dense navigation menu.
