Hey Johney,
Great theme.
I’m having trouble integrating MailChimp correctly.

My form has a required first name field.
http://impactcolab.com/index2.html

So, I added that input to the page, like so:
<input type="text" value="" name="newsletter-name" class="form-control" id="newsletter-name" placeholder="Your Name" data-validate="validate(required, name)" >

Next, I found in scripts.js where to add the newsletter_name to data:
data: { newsletter_email: $('#newsletter-email').val(), newsletter_name: $('#newsletter-name').val() },

Finally, added to newsletter.php:
... $email = $_POST['newsletter_email']; $fname = $_POST['newsletter_name']; //replace us2 with your actual datacenter $submit_url = "http://us1.api.mailchimp.com/1.3/?method=listSubscribe"; $data = array( 'email_address'=>$email, 'FNAME' => $fname, ...

When submitting the form I’m directed to:
http://impactcolab.com/scripts/newsletter.php

With the message “You must specify a email_address value for the listSubscribe method”

How can I make the newsletter notify work with a required first name field?

Thanks for any assistance.

Hi crbarnett,

I’ve done some digging around to find a way of doing what you want to do. This is what I came up with. I have tested it to.

In scripts.js change data to this:
data: {
    newsletter_email: $('#newsletter-email').val(),
    newsletter_name: $('#newsletter-name').val()
},
In subscribe.php under $email var add this new var:
$merge_vars = Array(
    'FNAME' => $_POST['newsletter_name']
);
In subscribe.php in the $data var add this new line under ‘email_address’:
'merge_vars'=>$merge_vars,
Hope this works! :)

I don’t have the file ‘subscribe.php’

How can I get or make this file to add mailchimp?

Thanks!

uhh, can I send you a direct email?

BTW I love the template- very easy to edit! Oh, I see I think I just put the MC api key into newsletter.php instead, right?

I see the problem- the instruction say to change a different php file- problem solved!

Glad you got it working!

If you need to send me a direct email you can use the contact form on my profile page.

Hello again! Question:how do you change the transparent color behind the different sections. I am trying to change the hex code in parts of the style.css but nothing is working once I upload it.

Thanks in advance!

johneyboy

To change the text color of a section you would add the color to the sections class. Example: the footer would be ’.footer’.

For your second questions. If the css code is put in index.html after where styles.css is linked in it won’t be overridden.

So…., I might of asked these question too quickly since I have figured it all out on my own. You can erase this thread if you like.

johneyboy

Glad you figured it out! :)

Hi Johney,

This theme is fantastic! I am figuring out how to customize most of it but one thing I can’t seem to figure out is how to get the background images changed. This is probably a stupid question but if you could point me to the file I am looking for I can ctrl-f for it but so far I have been through almost all of them and can’t find the lines I am looking for! Thanks very much.

johneyboy

It should be in ‘scripts/scripts.js’.

Hope this helps!
