I’m confused by the events functionality. The events page lists all events by publish date, not event date. Past events show up before upcoming events. There does not appear to be any way to automatically hide past events. Is this expected behavior?

jonathan01

Yes, it is. The events functionality it a custom post type, therefore it works the same as posts in WordPress which uses the date published for sorting. Because we wanted to display the date of the event in such a way (without using the date published), we broke the event date, month and year into 3 separate meta boxes which are not actual date, just text fields. There are a lot of plugins out there that do the events, but none that we’ve been able to find that were functional, useful and were coded correctly enough to not conflict with other plugins so we did the custom post type for the events so we knew everything was coded and displayed correctly.

However, saying that – you don’t have to use this functionality, you could just use a plugin if you find one that meets your needs and gives you template files that you could integrate into the look and feel of the theme.

Thanks

Thank you for updating the events listings to display by event date. I see that the events are sorted in DESC order. It would be more useful to sort in ASC order so that the next upcoming event shows up at the top of the list. However, switching to ASC displays past events. Is there any way to hide past events, short of manually deleting them each time?

Ho, Please use the contact form on my profile page with a link to your site.

Thanks

Fantastic theme btw. And I believe I got most of the template setup but for some reason ‘Recent Posts’ is falling above all of the content. (See http://thevalley.info). Any help would be appreciated!

jonathan01

Hi – it’s because you haven’t removed the standard widgets that WP installs on activation. WP installs all those widgets in the very first widget area it finds – which in this case is the top header widget area. Remove those first and then it will look better. Please remember to use the contact form on my profile page for support.

Thanks for your purchase and good luck with the theme.

My events are not being sorted correctly, they are being ordered by creation instead of by upcoming events as is described on http://mythemepreviews.com/genesischurch/event-posts

“We create a dynamic event page that lists all upcoming events, with pagination if required, this way even if your next event is 2 months away, it’s there with all your other events and presents a more active area of your website. Not only that, but we automatically pull in the 4 most upcoming events from your entries in to your home page.”

What is wrong?

jonathan01

I don’t actually see where I stated that posts don’t normally work this way? I said we wanted to display the date differently and style it differently. The event loop on the home page is a custom loop as we are pulling in other items as well in other custom loops. We grab the last most recent events, sermons and blog. As I stated before, you can change the publish date, or simply don’t use the event functionality and find an event plugin that better fits your needs.

well in response to the 2/19/13 update: 5 stars indeed! thank you for the great work on this theme, I also have one question you could possibly answer, the theme options provide a drop down box to save and restore settings, can you tell me where this data is located locally?

jonathan01

Hi and thanks for the kind words! :). When the theme options are updated it creates a table in your database that stores the information. If you reset, it will be reset to the original standard defaults that are set from the theme options functions file.

Great theme. Just purchased it! The Help Directory was not included in the zip download. Should there also be an xml file to set up like the demo? Am I missing something? Thanks in advance.

jonathan01

ok it’s in the queue – I managed to contact a reviewer as support still haven’t answered and he’s looking at it right now (he’s a good chap)

jonathan01

ok please re-download :) Sorry about that but everything should be good now

Perfect. It’s all there. Thanks for the quick response.

Jonathan, I would like to change the font on both the content and title. They are to light for me. Does the theme come fonts in the Admin?

jonathan01

No that would be customization and would be something the buyer alters or pays to alter I’m afraid – certainly I can help with the swapping on a font though if you need it. The posts are actually the blog though :)

Thanks

Jonathan

pgsimas

Ok. I love how you created the Post types, Sermon and Events areas. I just need it to not look “churchy’ but more bold. I your opinion, can I achieve a bolder look by replacing the fonts? Just wandering. Thx. Greg

jonathan01

Absolutely, with the color customizations inside the admin panel you can certainly make it look a lot different (see the alternative look I created using the customizer and altering a few textures / background images etc).

Do you have sample of people who have used this?

jonathan01

Hi – the way the marketplace works is to protect buyers and their clients identity – most people here buy to make client sites and wish to keep anonymous. Obviously I have links from other buyers I have helped but again it wouldn’t be very professional of me to share out their links sorry.

I just want to see what people have done with it.

jonathan01

Hi again, as I said I cannot share that information out of respect of privacy of my buyers – you can see from the item page by clicking on the live preview, screenshots and also the alternative I created using the theme options how things can be altered easily.

Hi, I was reading through the comments. Does the events function still sort events by the post date or does it now sort it by the actual event date?

Thank you.

jonathan01

No the events are sorted by the event date, not the publish date now. Thanks

This is a great theme, with an awesome dev. I had a couple of questions, and received a thorough answer very quickly. Definitely recommend this theme!

jonathan01

Thank you very much for leaving a comment – I really appreciate it!

Great Theme! I am just having one issue with it. For some reason in the admin when looking at the Pages list I get the following javascript error which is keeping me from being able to do any quick edits or bulk actions or anything that required javascript on that page.

This is the error: TypeError: jQuery(...).sortable is not a function

Is there something I am missing? I do not get this error when the default theme is activated.

Thanks for the help!

jonathan01

Hi – no I have never seen this error before and no other buyers have reported this either – I would ensure you are running the latest version of WordPress but apart from that removing any plugins not supplied with the theme to see if that helps possibly?

Looking on google a few different plugins seem to be causing this issue however normally where the … is it gives the name of the plugin.

If you require further support please use the contact form on my profile page as outlined in the help documentation PDF file.

Many thanks!

Jonathan

Great theme but Im surprised there isnt an easier way to add the shortcodes in the pages and posts, like via the kitchen sink. my users will have a hard time with this. maybe a feature update?

jonathan01

Hi- thanks for your purchase. They are in the html editor as they should be please check your documentation or switch to text tab to see the shortcodes buttons

Thanks

tech4eleven

Yup they are there. I was looking in the visual editor. thanks

How do I stop the slider from disappearing on mobile?

jonathan01

Hi and thank you for your purchase. You can look in the style.css and scroll down to the media queries to find the display:none; for the slider to remove that class. The slider will show but you will have to add some CSS there to get it to display correctly.

Hope that helps. Jonathan

My 2nd sub-menu items in the nav are pushed too far right- see this screenshot http://i.imgur.com/yEz1B00.png. can you help?

jonathan01

Hi – please use the contact form on my profile page for support as outlined in your help documentation PDF file – I can assist you there – please supply a link to your live site when you contact.

Jonathan

Hi,

Is there a way to download the sermon mp3 that has been uploaded in the sermons section, like a link?

Hi Another Question,

On the Homepage, under the upcoming events section, is it possible to add my own calendar and use for example a google calendar, as we have many people posting events and it is much easier to just have them use a google calendar?

If it all possible please let me know

Cheers

jonathan01

Hi and thanks for your purchase. Since you have a few questions, can you please follow your documentation and use the contact form on my profile with all your questions grouped to 1 email with a link to your site.

Thanks

Fantastic theme! Diggin it so far.

Is it possible to make a slide fill the entire slider section in place of the background? I would LOVE to have that feature. Didn’t realize it wasn’t part of the package when I first purchased it.

jonathan01

Hi and happy to hear you are enjoying the theme!

You can’t do that because, as you said, the background is just a background, not a slide, the slide is actually just the width of the content and this is also how the responsive works itself out also I’m afraid.

You could use a full width template and then alter the template for a 100% width slider section and use a plugin for a responsive fluid 100% wide slider – but I feel that may be more trouble and hard work than it’s really worth.

I can’t figure out getting the photo pages to work. When I choose ‘photos’ post format and insert my photos, my page turns up blank and not in the masonry style like the ‘nature1’ and ‘nature2’ are in your preview. Can you give a simple process as to the proper way to do this? I’ve tried putting the images in as a gallery or just as individual images.

jonathan01

Hi – your documentation (plus the importable XML ) would give you all the answers as we step through each step etc. There’s really not any further or alternative way of explaining the photo galleries apart from how we detail everything out in the help PDF file.

Create your gallery types from the custom post type menu on the left > we called them Nature 1 and Nature 2

Next under the menu you see ‘Add new’ – this looks like a post and all you do is set your featured image. On the right of the post screen you would choose which gallery owns this image – in our case we display Nature 1 and Nature 2 (because we created those in the step above)

Add as many images to as many galleries as you wish.

Go to WP Menus – Scroll down on the left is a box from WP that says “types” – right there are any and all of your galleries you created (Nature 1 and Nature 2 for example) – simply select and add to menu and drag in to place and click save menu – that’s it.

Hope that helps, if you have further questions please use the method outlined in your help doc for support as this is just a comment area not a support forum and direct communication is better so we can pass sensitive information without the world seeing everything.

Many thanks.

Tip: I’ve had a ton of difficulty centering buttons – and the tip Jonathan suggested to use the ‘align:center’ attribute doesn’t work – so where the button class styling is, I removed the float:left; and added this little bit of code in its place to make my buttons centered and scale with the rest of the site:
margin-left: 30%;
    margin-right: 30%;
    width: 40%;
That way, the width of the button is always 40% of the container and with the margins, it fits across 100%. That fixed the problem for me!

When adding a new sermon, you have to paste the urls of your audio, video and pdf in the meta boxes. It would be SUPER if you could add an upload button next to each field so that you could, for example with the audio file, upload it right there and have the url get added to the url field automatically. FEATURE REQUEST

jonathan01

It’s a great idea and one we thought of however there is an issue with doing it this way, some people may have their audio / video files etc on storage servers like Amazon S3 or another cloud service – they couldn’t upload then.

Having the URL input enables many types of setups and as we sell to a mass market we unfortunately have to sometimes try and think of everyone and every scenario.

Thanks for the input and feedback though!

Jonathan

tech4eleven

understood. my client needs to upload up to 6 different files per sermon and i added the fields to accommodate that perfectly but that means 6 different urls to input. how much would it cost me to have you write and send me the code to add into my site? :) i really need it.

jonathan01

Please contact me via the form in my profile page and ill get my programmer to give you a quote

Do you can you provide a code or template page which mimics your demo homepage?

jonathan01

Yes, there is an XML file included that (once imported) will set up your site just like the live demo (with the exception of widgets).

Just follow your documentation to get to that step.

Thanks

Diggin’ the theme!

Had a couple questions.

1. What steps do I need to take to adjust the width of the body and the sidebar for the blog (or sitewide)?

2. What steps do I need to take to adjust the featured image for standard posts within the post and on the homepage, etc?

jonathan01

Hi and thanks for the questions – For styling customizations (which widths are) you would edit the style.css. I’m not sure I understand your second question however, adjust what about the image exactly, that would be part of the functions file and then the individual page templates you wish to alter it on.

Please note however that alterations and customizations would be your responsibility as they not covered by support which is limited to bugs and installation issues :)

Many thanks

Jonathan
