Good morning,

Is there a way to change the number of items that appear in the grid? I would like four instead of three. One of each of the main categories I have planned.

SoloPine

Hi there,

For a widgetized layout: To change the number of posts that display, you can go to Appearance > Widgets > Select that particular widget > And change the number where it says “Number of posts to show”

For a grid layout: You can go to Settings > Reading > And adjust the number next to “Blog pages show at most”.

Cheers! :-)

Sorry for the accidental double post

SoloPine

No worries!

Hi there,

Really liking this theme! Is there any way I can get the Hickory comments widget to display without using the tabs?

SoloPine

Hi there,

Unfortunately we don’t currently have such option, but you could look into a plugin such as https://wordpress.org/plugins/decent-comments/ :)

Hi there!

Can you tell me why the margins (the vertical spaces where the background is) are much narrower on my site than they are on the demo site?

Thanks,

Rachel

SoloPine

Hi Rachel,

Thank you for the site link. I’ve taken a look but am not seeing a difference in width of the background-image areas when compared to the Hickory demo site. I’ve checked in Chrome, Firefox, and IE.

Hickory’s demo site: http://www.awesomescreenshot.com/image/108499/bcd3a0585823bdfc9a5a6ac0a91ad452

Your site: http://www.awesomescreenshot.com/image/108504/f84df10b3e387b27379d76a55b2e4000

Are you seeing something very different?

Cheers!

Hi, yes I’m seeing a centimeter or two of difference in Firefox. But when I check in Chrome (logged out) it looks fine! So maybe something to do with that. Out of interest, is there any way to decrease the margin width?

SoloPine

Hi Rachel, not seeing a difference in firefox either, so the issue is probably only there when you’re logged in.

If you could submit a new ticket to our support site http://solopine.ticksy.com and include your wp-admin info we can take a better look at it.

Hi there, I am hoping you can help, I’ve been using Hickory for sometime now (and love it!) Just recently I’ve had a few issues with not being able to save draft and publish a post, the theme has also been running/loading slower than usual.

Are you able to have a look or help?

Thanks Dane

Hi, I submitted a ticket without signing in. Is this okay? I haven’t seen any correspondence.

Hi Dane,

We replied a few hours ago :-) It looks like you may have signed in somehow, as I can see the ticket has your information, purchase code, etc. included?

Hi there, How do I make up the subheading on the home page with Hickory? I currently have one now that says “Latest Posts” but on the example site the main page is broken into subheadings like “Latest Videos” “Latest Reviews” etc thanks in advance. x

SoloPine

Hi there,

After widgetizing your homepage and adding the homepage widgets you’d like to use, you can look within Appearance > Widgets. If you click each homepage widget you’ve added so that their settings options appear, the first box called “Title” is where you can enter what you’d like the widget headline to say. http://www.awesomescreenshot.com/image/127716/4a15d69e3eca273489ba1320a737f906

Hi, I’d like to purchase this theme but I’ve a question for you:D These past days WP version is changed in 4.1.2. Is this theme still compatible? Thank you in advance!

SoloPine

Hi there,

We haven’t come across any incompatibilities between Hickory and the latest WP update at this point. Though should anything come up, we’ll be sure to address it immediately. :-)

Hi! Is there a way I can make my homepage categorise down the page as it does in the hickory theme? EG mine oage says “Latest News” but the Hickory theme says “Latest Videos”, “Latest Reviews” etc. Could you please help me with this?

How can I find out which version of Hickory theme I have on my site? I noticed you have new update on the function.php file which I did some modification previously. In this case, how can I apply the new update file? Please help, thanks.

SoloPine

Hi there,

To see which version of Hickory you’re running, you can look in your “style.css” file. At the top, it will say the version.

If you’ve made alterations to the theme’s files, I would highly recommend noting these changes down before updating the theme. Updating the theme will replace the old theme files with new ones. By noting down the changes, you can re-implement the alterations again in the new theme files after updating.

For steps on updating your theme to the latest version, please check out this FAQ article: https://solopine.ticksy.com/article/2795/

Hi there, In my main menu I have made all of the categories a ‘category’ page except the CONTRIBUTORS page which is a page layout. The page layout won’t show widgets on the right hand column like the contributors pages do. How do I adjust this? I’ve gone through every tab! Thank you!

I would like to update my install of Hickory, however my theme has quite a lot of changes made to the theme files. Is there a way to see what changes have been made and for what files in the latest update?

SoloPine

Hi there,

I unfortunately don’t have the specific lines of code or code elements altered in the Hickory update noted down, though the Hickory files which were altered are:

  • functions.php
  • inc/widgets/homepage_widget.php
  • header.php
  • footer.php
  • single.php
  • inc/templates/single_full_image.php
  • class-tgm-plugin-activation.php

Hi there,

still having a great time finding out everything about Wordpress and the theme. I just would like to change/translate the text ‘You might also like…’ that’s at the bottom of my news-category. My site is in Dutch, so… But I can’t find it anywhere in the php. Can you help me?

Thanks!

SoloPine

Hi there,

To manually translate the “You Might Also Like” bit for the related post area, you can find it within the theme’s “related_posts.php” file on Line 32.

This file is located within the “inc” folder and then within the “templates” folder, so you won’t be able to simply navigate to it via Appearance > Editor. You can either access it via FTP, or, via a lovely code editor plugin such as WPide ( http://wordpress.org/plugins/wpide ).

Cheers! :-)

Hi, is there any way to change the social media icons in the navbar? I cant find the images .

many thanks

SoloPine

Hi there,

For Hickory’s social media icons, we’ve used Font Awesome, so within the code it looks a bit different.

For example, within the “innerheader.php” theme file, you can see the numerous lines of code related to the various social network options all blocked together. On each line, toward the end, you’ll see something like:
<i class="fa fa-facebook" />
This is the Font Awesome code to pull in the Facebook icon.

Cheers!

Hi! Is it possible to put a logo in the menu bar and also make the bar as a sticky header? Regards

SoloPine

Yes we have an option to make the menu sticky. To place a logo in the menu bar you can follow this article https://solopine.ticksy.com/article/3455/—it’s for our other theme Hemlock but should work the same in Hickory

Hi,

Is there any way possible to feature image captions under photos? It’s essential for copyright reasons on my site.

Many thanks in advance :)

SoloPine

Hi there,

It looks like there’s a plugin called “Featured Image Caption” ( https://wordpress.org/plugins/featured-image-caption/ ) which may be what you’re looking for. If you decide to try it out, you’ll first want to ensure you go to Settings > Featured Image Caption > and check the 2 box options. Be sure to save. Then, within your posts, you’ll notice a new meta box appearing over your “Featured Image” box where you can type in your caption text.

Cheers!

Worked a treat – thanks so much! :)

Hi, I love your theme. I want to purchase but had a quick question. Is there an option to have the top navigation fixed and not full width?

SoloPine

Hi there,

Thanks very much! :-)

Definitely—if you are using the Header 1 option ( http://solopine.com/hickory/ ), it would be a simple adjustment with some CSS. If you decide to go with Hickory and would like a hand with these changes, feel free to head over to our support site at https://solopine.ticksy.com and open up a new support ticket.
