Just got a quick question, when using the theme with Xampp ( didn’t test it online ) the posts won’t show me just a short version of the text, but the full content of the post, there’s no “read more” link as well.

How can I fix this ? I tried writing settings… says 20 lines, changed it to 5.

Hi, I have a blog on Style that I wish to develop into an e-shop www.WelikeYourStyle.net Hoarder interests me because people would be able to see many, not just 2 or 3 of my posts like it happens with the current theme I am using. I have two questions for you, I need it to be SEO friendly, I can see that you can add plug ins and once one post is open you can share it FB/TW/Pinterest etc etc, is there a possibility to make the main page also shareable? The 2d one I forgot! LOL , sorry i’ll come to me. The most important is that one anyway.

Thank you, your theme looks AWESOME !

OrmanClark

Hi, yes, if you use a plugin such as ZillaShare (http://www.themezilla.com/plugins/zillashare/) then you can share the homepage. You would need to place the sharing function within the footer more than likely.

Question. I noticed that on the demo, when I click on tags or search, it displays in blog layout. Can layout be customize easily with three columns, just like the homepage of Hoarder?

OrmanClark

Hi, buy default the archives use the blog layout. Using the 3 column layout would be possible, but it would take some modification of the theme files. If you’re not comfortable doing that yourself then it would be a task for a developer.

Great! Great! Great!

Simple question. I assume that there are other background images/patterns available? Can I upload my own?

OrmanClark

Hi, the theme comes as per the demo. You can of course replace the background with another of your choice by editing the theme CSS .

How hard would adding a second bar to single pages be? So that they’d be three column page? I know it’s easy but I ask as I figure the responsiveness might get in the way.

OrmanClark

How easy really depends on your own skill set so I couldn’t comment on that. It’s possible yes, I don’t think a quick task though.

Default-user

I had a look and yeah, would have to redo the responsive grids etc. Gonna go ahead and get it anyways, thanks. Love your work! :)

Hi Orman, Seems to be an awesome theme, just a quick question before I purchase it:

Are you able to set the order in which the elements appear on the home page (i.e. I want to create some static pages for the services and put some quote blocks there I want those to appear right on the top, and the blog posts and gallery posts to follow them regardless when they’ve been created)

Thanks a lot for your help! Cheers, Gabor

OrmanClark

Gabor, the homepage is made of up blog posts, so the order is by date created. You can of course manipulate the post date in WordPress to order them manually.

Hi I was wondering if it was possible to create an e-shop inside this theme, that would be on a different page than the blog itself, since i’m blogging as well. Thank you so much :) Zoé

OrmanClark

Zoé, you’d need to look to a plugin to create any kind of e-commerce functionality within the theme. There’s a few out there to choose from.

thank you so much :)

Nice theme.

One question: The newest post goes in the left-top of the theme? Or is there any chance to see in the top the most rated posts?

OrmanClark

Hi, the posts are ordered by date. Ordering by most rated might be possible if you were to use a 3rd party plugin perhaps.

This theme is coded very well. It is incredibly easy to edit the css as it is really clean and not all over the place. It loads in under two seconds, even when fully developed. I can’t say enough about the work here. I look forward to using some of your other themes in the future. Great job.

OrmanClark

Thank you. Really appreciate the kind words!

Pre-Sales Question

I like the look of Hoarder and am considering buying but have one question beforehand.

If I Chrome Inspect Element the images on the home page of the live preview it looks as if in each case an image of 580px width is served and then resized in the browser to 260px width. The image downloaded is approximately 4x larger than any which appear on the page.

I’ve read several items that suggest this is a bad idea as it impacts negatively on page load speed. I’m curious why Hoarder does things this way.

Apologies if I’m mistaken.

OrmanClark

Hi,

Generally speaking you are correct, using larger images than is strictly needed will slow down load times, however, we do it for 2 reasons.

1. The image we load is actually the same image used on the detail pages, this means once you navigate to the internal pages, your browser will not have to request a new image as it has already cached it. Your front page may load slower in theory, but all details pages should be very quick indeed.

2. Using the larger images make the responsive nature of the theme possible, as the image can be scaled on the fly depending on the size of the browser/device. Loading new images dependent on device is trickier.

OK, thanks a lot for the explanation.

Awesome theme, but i’d like to add my +1 for the mentioned request to allow a theme option to set display to masonry or 2 columns + sidebar for category / author / tag pages.

Duly noted :)

Beautiful theme(s)! I am wondering if it is possible to create full width posts/pages for Hoarder?

OrmanClark

Thanks. Yes you can create full width pages (http://demo.themezilla.com/hoarder/zillashortcodes/) but no, you cannot have full width posts with modifications to the theme.

I really like your page but I have one question. I am looking to put together a family site where my wife and I can have out own pages for family and friends that are out of town. Is it possible to compile both our pages and make them display on one and also keep our own.? Thanks in advance?

OrmanClark

Hi, I’m not really sure what you mean I’m afraid. Do you mean your own separate blogs? If so, then it’s not quite possible to do but you could of course have your own dedicated category e.g. http://demo.themezilla.com/hoarder/category/standard/

Dear Orman,

I ve bought this template and it is pretty cool. I just wondering two questions. Firstly, in your demo posts with picture when you come onto it with mouse it changes color to pink how can I do that? Also can you pls help me how to add like/love button at the end of a post.

Thank you

Great theme! It’s difficult to go over all the comments if my questions have been answered, so if you can answer again:

1.Can images in a same single gallery post be different sizes? I mean like some images are vertical with some landscape images.

2.When you click on “Categories” and go to a category page, can the layout be “2 Cols with Sidebar” or “Masonry”?

Thanks.

OrmanClark

Hi,

1. Images in the gallery posts can be any height you wish. They will all share the same width but the height can be different.

2. Not out of the box no. It would absolutely be possible, but you would need to edit the theme’s files to make it happen.

SeanC

1.Sounds good, so image height will change when viewing the gallery, right?

2.Sure, I can edit theme files myself. But will you let me know what files/codes to edit to make category page in Masonry layout? Or I have to figure it out?

Thanks.

OrmanClark

1. That’s right.

2. We can let you know what files you may need to edit but we wouldn’t be able to walk you through the exact changes on this occasion as the modification is a little larger than we deal with in support.
