Does this have the option for users to create an account and upload content to their own page like Pinterest?

satoridesign

Hey Rmaslikhov,

first of all, thank you for expressing interest in my work!

The user upload feature hasn’t been initially envisaged in the Ikebana theme, yet in principle if you create new users with a certain set of capabilities (incl. uploading images and creating new projects), you should be able to achieve this. One user setting plugin I would recommend is User Role Editor.

Should you have any additional questions about the theme, do not hesitate to contact me.

When I use the “Link” format on portfolio items, the hover seems to be acting weird. I’m in Firefox and Chrome on a Mountain Lion Mac, and they kind of vibrate as I move the link across.

Here’s the test site: http://www.massivecollaboration.com

satoridesign

Hey Texjer,

first of all, thank you for the purchase!

You’re right, the overlay behaviour is quite ugly for the “link” format tiles; my apologies for this one and thanks for bringing this up! I’ve prepared a fix – please download this archive, unzip it, and upload the resulting files into the theme folder (/wp-content/themes/Ikebana/), replacing the existing files. When you refresh the website after that, the “link” format tiles should only show an overlay on mouse hover when they have a thumbnail, otherwise only the link itself will be clickable. Let me know if the bug disappears after the update.

¿How I can translate text in icon menu items with WPML?

Thanks

Hey Teclat,

please update the theme to the latest version – the proper translation wraps for the icon menu labels have been added there.

Hi Andrii,

Please can you help me. I already have the latest version of the theme and do not see where to do the translation.

Hey Teclat,

I will need to ask for access to the back-end in this case – could you please send me the credentials to support@satoristudio.net. Thanks!

Hello Guys,

i am interested in your theme, nice and clean design. I have question :

1. for the homepage, in the masonry blocs, is it possible to add embed video, embed Google map, a twitter & instagram feed, a custom link( like to a .pdf), and a newsletter sign in box ?

2.Is it possible to change easily the order of the block on homepage ?

Cheers : )

satoridesign

Hey Frank,

thank you for expressing interest in my work!

I will go over the questions in the same order:

1). The current version of the theme does not support displaying embedded video, Google maps, or social media feeds inside the masonry tiles; there is a specialized project format called “link” however, which allows linking a tile to any external or internal URL. In case a project is not given a thumbnail image, its tile will display a part of its content, which means that a newsletter sign-in box can potentially be embedded inside a tile. As an example of embedding, you can take a look at the website of the new Danish political party Alternativet, which is based on Ikebana: http://alternativet.dk/; note the green “søg” tile, which is a search form embedded in a tile.

2). By default, the masonry tiles are sorted by creation date; you can also choose to sort them by date modified, comment count, or a custom order, which can then be changed for any specific tile individually. You can also declare one or more tiles as “sticky”, which will force them to always come first before all other tiles, independent of the sorting method.

Should any of the above require more clarifications, or in case you have other questions, don’t hesitate to contact me!

Are you guys doing custom development like the ones i list above ?

In principle – we do, yet at the moment there’s no time in the schedule to ensure a proper level of quality, thus I would have to refer you to specialized development/customization platforms such as Envato Studio.

Just to be clear – we do offer free support to all buyers regarding theme setup, bugs, fixes, and third-party plugin compatibility.

Hi Satori Studio support,

firstly thank you for the wonderful themes!

I got some problems with the Ikebana theme:

1. Printing out the portfolio view results in cutted off boxes on the right. So not all information will be on the printout. I tested it on Chrome and Firefox. Do you got an idea how to resolve this? I tried it with a CSS workaround but the size attribute is not supported by every browser: @media print { @page { size:450mm 402mm; } }

2. On the iPad1 the screen flickers on load of the portfolio view. Tested it on two different iPad1 in Safari and Chrome. On iPad2 and later the problem does not reoccur.

Both points occur on the newest and older versions of Ikebana.

Thank you!

satoridesign

Hey Provinzglueck,

first of all, thank you for the purchase!

Thank you for bringing up these issues, I’ve spent quite some time now trying to find a cross-browser solution to the first one (it appears that there is no standardized way of printing out an Isotope masonry layout), yet I’m afraid I need more time. I will also need to find an iPad1 to test the theme on it, which may take some time. I would really appreciate if you could “bump” this topic again on Monday the 9th in case there’s no answer from me on that day. Thank you for understanding!

Sincerely,
Andrii / Satori Studio

Default-user

bump :-)

satoridesign

Hey Provinzglueck,

after some extensive testing, I found out that all non-webkit browsers offer settings in the print mode to scale the masonry layout and fit it into the paper width, e.g. the “Scale” option in Firefox. It was thus left to find a way to alter the webkit-browser print layouts (i.e. Chrome and Safari), and after some meddling with the @print conditional CSS, I’ve managed to remove all Isotope transformations, forcing all tiles to be displayed on the paper. Please download this archive, unzip it, and upload the resulting files into the theme folder (/wp-content/themes/Ikebana/), replacing the existing files. This should force the webkit browsers to generate a less aesthetic, but more practical layout on print command.

Regarding the iPad issue: I couldn’t find an iPad1 to test it yet (my local stores only sell the second model, so have to search among friends), and the available web emulators do not seem to be able to reproduce the issue. Would it be possible for you to record a screencast on how the theme loads on iPad1, using Screenr for example? That would at least give me an idea how the situation looks in detail. Thanks!

1.Yes you have understand. When I select the color in the portfolio page (back end) and the post box size, usually the color not show in the front end. I verify this issue when I select 1×1.

2. Another question. I like the “Aside format” and I verify the good is code, but unfortunally it display the unclickable thumbnail image. Is possible show the clickable thumbnail image with the excerpt.

Thank for help.

satoridesign

Hey Luigi,

I will cover the issues in the same order:

1). Please make sure that when you select the color in the “Background Color” settings window, you always press the blue “submit” button on the colorpicker so that the hex representation of the color remains in the field when you close the colorpicker.

2). The “aside” format has been designed for un-clickable images specifically; you can use a “standard” format project with a thumbnail (featured image) for a clickable image tile.

Hey Luigi,

regarding issue #1, I will need to ask you for access to the back-end, I cannot seem to be able to replicate the problem on my WP installs; you can send the login and password to support@satoristudio.net (no disclosure guaranteed).

Concerning the second question – the excerpts for masonry tiles are sourced from the excerpt box in the project editor mode – you can insert any information into it, and it will display in the semi-transparent overlay on top of the image in the tile. You can also control whether to display the overlays on mouse hover, or always, or never, using the “Portfolio item captions” option in the “Portfolio Page” tab of the Theme Options panel.

satoridesign

Hey Luigi,

I’ve updated the file once more and sent you the latest version of “content-link.php” to your email just in case; overall, all these issues (changes made to the website randomly not being saved) looks a lot like a caching problem – I can see that you’re not using any caching plugin inside WordPress, maybe your hosting company uses some sort of caching for faster page load? In that case it is highly recommended to disable the caching for the duration of the development process.

Hi Andrii, I checked my hosting company and I verified the caching program was active. I stoped this program.

I read the code about “Link”format portfolio file and I understod that in the front end this file to write the url link: this is a core code ”<?php $postlink = urlgrabber(); ?>” ad your “echo”. If it is possible to show the content or excerpt in stead the code <?php $postlink = urlgrabber(); ?>. Thanks a lot.

satoridesign

Hey Luigi,

this hasn’t been envisaged by the theme initially, and I would recommend using the “standard” project format instead, yet in principle it is doable – you’d need to replace the line with the “urlgrabber” function with something like this:

<?php the_excerpt(); ?>

Hi,

Great looking theme. Couple of questions:

The left hand icon navigation is presumably categories, is there any AJAX functionality for tags? (I’m assuming not, but thought I’d check)

Why is it on the demo, if the category (icon menu) is selected from a different page (such as the features page) the AJAX no longer works, unless you head to the home page? (e.g go to Features, then click Experiments. If you then click Services, it loads normally instead of the expected AJAX)

Thanks.

satoridesign

Hey ApinaPress,

thank you for expressing interest in my work!

The icon menu of the left hand side can have two modes: it can either be linked with a portfolio tag (one of taxonomies), in which case it will filter the portfolio (masonry) page or act like a direct link to the particular tag archive on all other pages; OR it can have any arbitrary URL set as a link (either internal or external), in which case it will always point to that URL and not act as a filter on portfolio page. The fact that the icon menu does not work as a filter outside portfolio pages in the first option is because there is nothing to filter when the tiles are not loaded, which made it more logical to point to the tag archive.

Should you have more questions about the theme, do not hesitate to contact me.

Hi there, I am interested in your theme and have three questions beforehand.

First, is the script that displays the pictures (like fancybox) hardcoded into the theme? I want to use the easy fancybox plugin for the settings and iframe capability, but had problems with a another theme (the reason I am looking at this now) which had fancybox hardcoded, which overrode the plugin settings.

Second, I love the masonry style and want to display pictures, quotes etc. and normal text posts. In the demo I see some tiles that have text, but you can’t click them to link to the posts page. Is this possible (to have some tiles preview the posts text)?

Third, is it possible (code wise) that I add a jquery “likes” script to the tiles myself, or will this interfere with the theme too much?

Thanks for info! Cheers (:

David

satoridesign

Hey David,

thank you for expressing interest in my work!

I will go over the questions in the same order:

1). Ikebana uses a customized version of the Easy Fancybox plugin for displaying the overlays; it is embedded into the theme, i.e. is not shipped as a separate plugin which can be uninstalled, yet it can easily be turned off (by commenting out one line of code in the theme’s functions.php file); if need be, I can show you how to do it.

2). Yes, it is possible to have clickable tiles with with text – if you use a “standard” project format instead of “quote” or “aside” on a project and add no thumbnail (featured image), it will produce a tile with text that points to the respective project.

3). This depends a lot on the actual code of the snippet; from jQuery side, there shouldn’t be any conflicts, because I use “noconflict” wrap for all scripts that I include into the theme; however, it is hard to tell how easy it will be to incorporate the new elements into the tiles design (i.e. the front-end), without seeing their actual code. For the sake of transparency, I must also mention that such additions are considered as theme customizations and are not generally covered by the free support offer; however, I do try to help out in case of small issues that do not require significant restructuring of the theme’s code.

Should you have additional questions, do not hesitate to ask!

I’m looking to create a church website that’s similar to this:

http://gccwired.com/

Is Ikebana a step in the right direction?

Dale

satoridesign

Hey Dale,

thank you for expressing interest in my work!

Ikebana does offer similar functionality to the website you’ve linked to, yet it must be noted that in case you wish to implement all features from the GCC Wired in Ikebana, the theme would require certain customization, which is not covered by the ThemeForest support offer (I do try to help and provide guidance or even some additional code, though). In particular, please note the following differences between the website and the theme: - the left side menu is made from images with hover text in Ikebana, and does not fold on mouse click. - a countdown times, like on the second masonry tile, would require a separate plugin. - there is no option to put images into the area on the left (under the menu), this would have to be added via some additional code. - a layout such as on this page: http://gccwired.com/mission/ would require a new custom template file.

Should you have additional questions about the theme, do not hesitate to ask!

sorry for my english

satoridesign

Hey SAYConnected,

first of all, thank you for the purchase!

you’re right, that’s not supposed to happen, my apologies and thanks for bringing this up! I suspect that the reason might be in the fact that the Isotope plugin which builds the masonry layout takes the dimensions of the first tile as grid parameters, in case none were specified separately; I’ve prepared a fix, where the row height specification has been added to the code – please download this archive, unzip it, and upload the resulting file into the theme folder (/wp-content/themes/Ikebana/) via FTP, replacing the existing one. Please let me know if the file fixes the bug!

Hi Satori Studio,

I’ve purchased this ikebana theme just recently and I got some question or feature request :

1. Is it possible to change the width of the page? If I remember correctly the demo page before have like a full screen width or almost full screen width right?

2. I don’t think that the template has this feature right now, so maybe this is more like a feature request. I would LOVE if the portfolio page can make the featured image become a BLACK & WHITE image and when we MOUSE OVER it, it will become the original image (with colour).

If it’s too complicated, could you like give us the ability to set different image between normal and mouse over? I can live with this and edit my images to become a Black & White manually and upload both into each project. This will make non designer people like me can upload just any image we want without considering the colour clash

Thanks!

satoridesign

Hey Ajifsk,

I apologize for the delay in my reply! I’ve answered your question on the forum as well, so that forum visitors could also benefit from the information.

I will cover your questions in the same order:

1). Yes, there’s a special setting for that in Ikebana, please visit the “Page Elements” tab of the Theme Options panel and input your desired maximum width into the “Maximum content width” field. If you want to force the page to stretch to the max of the available screen with in all cases, you can set this parameter to a high number, e.g. 5000. The default setting is 1500 (pixels).

2). I am not planning to introduce this feature in full into the theme so far, mostly since it is quite specific for a wide-use theme; however, I can provide a piece of code for you that would implement greyscale hover effect on at least 90% of currently used browsers (this is also a more efficient solution, because loading each image in two alternatives would drastically increase the load time of the website, which could negatively impact use experience). Please see the code here.

You can insert this code into the “Style: Add Custom CSS” tab of the Theme Optoions panel (do not forget to press the “Save all changes” button to preserve the effect).

Is it possible to show all the blog posts on the index page ?

Can we individually set the size of the bloc for each post ?

I mean, I want one post to appear 4x sized, another 1x sized, another 2x sized, etc…

satoridesign

Hey Zampai,

thank you for expressing interest in my work!

I will go over your questions in the same order:

1). The native WordPress option to display either a static page (as in the demo) or blog posts (i.e. this page of the demo) as the front page is also available in Ikebana.

2). Yes, you can choose between 14 different sizes for each individual tile, from 1×1 to 4×4 and all intermediate combinations (except for 1×4 and 4×1 so far, which the tests have proved to be quite uncanny :)

Should you have additional questions about the theme, do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you for your rapid answer.

However it is still not very clear for me. To illustrate what I mean, here is a link to my Blog: http://blognature.fr/ I have hand-built my own theme. The goal of the front page is to be “minimalist”: show all my blog posts as “thumbnail + category + title”.

However, I am not enough an expert to build a “responsive” theme and I do not know how to generate nice interlocking tiles of various sizes as you do.

Thus, I do not want a static page, I am looking for a tiles-like front page showing all my blog posts automatically with the possibility to highlight some of my posts with a bigger tile (an option to select the tile size in the post-edit admin page would be very nice).

I spent a long time searching on the Web and I thought that you very nice ikebana theme did that.

Best regards.

satoridesign

Hey Zampai,

thank you for the explanation! I will try to clarify my previous comment: There are two types of front page one can have in WordPress (using any theme): either a page with a certain layout – this is called a “static page”; or a page which automatically shows all blog posts – this is called a “blog posts page”. The choice can be set in the “Settings -> Reading” section of the WP admin panel. Now, here’s a twist: using custom queries, it is possible to create other content types, apart from the default “blog posts”, and list them on a specific page template (which would count as a “static page” in the terms above). This is exactly what Ikebana does – one of its custom page templates, called “Portfolio Page”, allows displaying all content of the type “projects” (which are not the same as default blog posts) – and you can declare such a page as a front page, just like in the Ikebana theme demo website. Note that the theme demo also shows how the default WP blog posts page looks like, here.

In case something is still unclear, please let me know!

Sincerely,
Andrii / Satori Studio

Default-user

Ok. So if a stuff (post, page, etc..) is tagged “projects”, it will appear in the portfolio page ? How can we set the “projects” type ? Is it a kind of checkbox somewhere ? And how we set the tile size ? It would be nice to see a print-screen of the admin for the portfolio page. THX.

satoridesign

Hey Zampai,

as I’ve mentioned above, the “portfolio project” is a separate content type, on par with the default “blog post”. This means that projects for a portfolio page are created in a separate admin section (“Portfolio -> Add New”); the portfolio page is created separately as a page (“Pages -> Add New”) and given a “Portfolio” layout from the “Page Attributes” box in the editor mode. The size of a project’s tile can be set using a special drop-down (which contains all available tile sizes) while in the editor mode.

Sincerely,
Andrii / Satori Studio

Default-user

Ok. it is clear now. Thanks. For my allready 57 published posts (blog item), do I have to re-create them ?, or can I transform them to “portfolio items” ?

satoridesign

Hey Zampai,

you can use a third-party plugin to mass-convert posts into projects, e.g. this one. However, for the sake of disclosure and transparency, I do not give guarantees that 100 out of 100 third-party plugins will work perfectly with the theme, since there are simply too many of them to account for.

  1. Is it possible to set the title of the tiles allways visible ?
  2. What about SEO since the front page seems to not displays much html code ?
satoridesign

Hey Zampai,

I will go over the questions in the same order:

1). Yes, you can choose between always showing the overlay titles, showing them only on mouse hover, or not showing any at all. Note that this setting affects all tiles simultaneously.

2). Ikebana comes with a built-in SEO plugin, which allows setting the meta tags and other SEO attributes for each individual page of the website. I am not sure I understood what you meant by “not much html code” though?

Andrii / Satori Studio

2/ By clicking “show the source code” under my chrome browser, I see that the tiles do not appear in html code. So I have concerns about how the front page is seen by the Search Engines. What about the key words in the tiles’s titles for example ? But you allready answered my question :-)

satoridesign

Hey Zampai,

I suspect that what you are doing is checking the code of the frame which is added to ThemeForest to all theme previews. You can try to look at the code of the original theme demo (without the frame). Ikebana does not hide any HTML from the browsers.

Hi Andrii, I’m almost done with our site – just wanting to add some excerpt text to each project square on the home page.

Please see the link: http://www.makingsense.co.uk/wordpress/

I can add the text fine so it appears when you hover over an image (just the one done for now) but is it possible to change the background colour of the text from black to white? Or ideally for the text block to have no background at all? If you could let me know where I might alter this, that’s be really helpful…

Hey Anna,

Before we proceed, I will need to ask for your purchase code for verification purposes; this is a standard procedure for every user of the themes and is meant to counter illicit copying. In order to obtain the Item Purchase Code, please log into your ThemeForest account and go to the “Downloads” tab. Locate the theme you purchased in your “Downloads” list and click on the green “Download” button. In the ensuing drop-down, choose “License Certificate & Purchase Code” and download the file. After you have downloaded the certificate you can open it in a text editor such as Notepad and copy the Item Purchase Code.

Thanks for your patience!
