Discussion on Ikebana - Masonry WordPress Portfolio Theme

150 comments found

Dear Andrew,

I am getting acquainted with the Ikebana theme I purchased today. Setting up my intended website, I stumbled across some default settings that are puzzling to me, when comparing with the theme preview.

When applying the heading style 1 or 2 on a page they are standardly displayed in red and centered on the page. The default heading color (#DDDDDD) according to the theme settings is only applied when entering it manually. The heading however is also aligned to the center of the page instead of to the left. I tried to solve it by the following: [heading style=”2” align=”left”] Contact [/heading]

However it does not display accordingly: http://www.paulbrouns.com/contact/

Please tell me how to solve this. Kind regards / enjoy the weekend,

Paul

Thank you, perfectly clear. The only problem I have with that is that I would prefer not to have the Home page starting with such a heading. How to deal with that?

satoridesign

Hey Paul,

to disable the title on just the front page, you can add this custom CSS into the “Style: Add Custom CSS” tab of the Theme Options panel:

.home .page-heading h1 { display: none; }

Thanks! It is working perfectly.

Another thing happened ever since installing the required plugins for the theme. Whenever I update a page I get the following error messages on a blank page:

Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /public/sites/www.paulbrouns.com/wp-content/plugins/twitter-widget/twitter-widget.php:246) in /public/sites/www.paulbrouns.com/wp-admin/post.php on line 233

Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /public/sites/www.paulbrouns.com/wp-content/plugins/twitter-widget/twitter-widget.php:246) in /public/sites/www.paulbrouns.com/wp-includes/pluggable.php on line 1173

I thought something may have gone wrong with the installation, so I just started from scratch. I deleted the entire installation and the database. I only installed the latest version of Wordpress, created the pages, installed Ikibana. After that I got a request to install the recommended plugins for your theme. I installed all of them and the result was again a blank page with the warnings mentioned. Does this mean that some of the plugins are not compatible with the new version of Wordpress?

How to solve this? Kind regards,

Paul

Hey Paul,

I’ve replied to your email, but decided to give the information here as well in case future users stumble upon the same issue. The cause of the problem was in an extra empty line after the closing php bracket in the Twitter Widget plugin’s main file. I’ve fixed the code, now it should work without producing error messages. Here’s the updated plugin file just in case, I will also include the fix into the next version of Ikebana (3.3).

Hey Paul,

glad to hear! Should you face any other problems or have further questions about the theme, do not hesitate to contact me.

So far it looks really, really nice!

Only one presale question: Is it possible to put a video in one of the tiles on the frontpage? I need it to be playable without going to portfolio or leaving the frontpage.

satoridesign

Hey Eliasen,

thank you for expressing interest in Ikebana! To answer your question: video playback directly from the tiles in the masonry layout isn’t possible yet. Now that you’ve brought this up, I do have an idea of how to technically make it happen, yet this will not become a stable feature for at least one theme version (i.e. by 3.3 at the earliest).

Hey Andrii,

Thanks for your swift reply. That’s also a good sign for me, considering purchasing. :-)

Unfortunately my client insists on having that feature, and, depending on when you plan to release 3.3, I might have to look for something else. Do you have an estimate of the approx. release date?

Best regards, Eliasen

satoridesign

Hey Eliasen,

since I am going on a vacation for a week now, I will be able to implement this feature in approx. two weeks, i.e. the next version of Ikebana can be live around the 10th of October.

Sincerely,
Andrii / Satori Studio

Enjoy your time off, Andrii. Looking forward to v3.3 when you return.

Best regards, Eliasen

satoridesign

Hey Eliasen,

As promised, I’ve implemented the playable videos in masonry tiles and submitted Ikebana version 3.3 for review by ThemeForest staff; it should be available by Monday at the latest.

Sincerely,
Andrii / Satori Studio

Brillant job, Andrii. Looking forward to it.

BTW, thanks for the follow-up.

Just to let you know – the 3.3 update is already live.

Hi Andrii,

I am about to finalize the website with the Ikebana theme and I am really enthusiastic about it. Just need to add a few final icons.

I only have a question regarding the portfolio view on mobiles. I noticed that 1×1 portfolio boxes are not displayed as squares on phones. When holding vertically, my square images are cropped at the top and bottom. Is there any way to make the previews square on all portfolio views? With 2×2 images the picture is being cropped to a very narrow vertical image. It would be most helpful if this would be possible to solve, since all my original pictures are square. Therefore they look perfect on all other responsive views. Here is the url once more: http://paulbrouns.com

Hey Paul,

this hasn’t been envisaged in the theme previously, yet now that you’ve raised this question, I think this could be a nice addition to the features. I’ve prepared a custom file that makes all tiles into squares on smaller screens – please download this archive, unzip it, and upload the resulting file into the theme folder (/wp-content/themes/Ikebana/), replacing the existing file. In case it works well, I will add this feature as an option to the next theme update.

Sincerely,
Andrii / Satori Studio

Hi Andrii, i’ve just updated www.myosushi.it with latest theme version and i’m facing some problems with responsiveness: - all the project images are 1×1 but they are cutted in height in the portfolio homepage boxes - I’ve tried to use some custom file you have prepared for some other user ( http://satoristudio.net/forums/topic/problem-with-mobile-porfolio-items-height/ )but nothing happens. - Actually i’m using wp 3.9

ps. i’m trying to access the support forum with my login or register a new account but it’s not possible.

Hope you can help asap Bye and thanks Antonio

satoridesign

Hey Antonio,

I apologize for the delay in my reply!

I’ve introduced multiple portfolio tile sizes in Ikebana 3.0, and the corresponding back-end slightly changed – please try choosing appropriate values in the “Post box size” drop-down while in the editor mode for each particular project.

I will look into the forum registration issue, thank you for noticing this!

Hi Andrii, I think there’s a misunderstanding: it’s a matter about how featured images fit responsive boxes in homepage. All my images, except the first are 1×1 in proportion and also post box sizes are 1×1 but in the responsive version boxes change their dimension and they’re not perfectly squared.

The only test to be done is opening www.myosushi.it in full with in browser and the make the window smaller. Thanks Antonio

satoridesign

Hey Antonio,

I’ve removed the feature whereby the height of tiles is equal to width on smaller screens, because it does not play well with the Perfect Masonry script and might create some troubles while resizing the browser; however, you can try implementing it by downloading and unzipping this archive, and uploading the resulting file via FTP into the theme folder (/wp-content/themes/Ikebana).

In general, I would not recommend using images with informative text inside in responsive web layouts; you can try using the theme’s built-in caption capability instead to display the strings on tiles (“Menu pranzo”, “Take away”, etc). You can set the texts to always be displayed by using the “Portfolio item captions” setting in the “Portfolio Page” tab of the Theme Options panel.

Andrii / Satori Studio

Hello, great job on the theme, absolutely love it!!

But, lol, there is always a but. Two questions.

I would like our logo in the header and it seems it can be done, but for some reason it won’t show. I’ve played with the height and width of the header the the theme options, but nothing works. I’ve also resized the logo to a smaller version, but that also didn’t work.

Second question, on the portfolio, I don’t want to have the projects linked to anything, as in I don’t want customers to click on the image and have them go to the project page. Can I un-link them?

I tried to register for support but keep getting an error “no data sent”.

Default-user

the logo is only partially showing. I want a to be able to see the full logo. having trouble setting the header size.

and yes, I do love the theme, I’m going to be using it for another project.

satoridesign

Hey Gstekler,

the image you are currently using as the logo is 150×66 px, which is not the same aspect ratio as the logo area, which you’ve set in the Theme Options panel (300×150 px), which causes it to be cropped to fit the area. Please try using a 300×150 image for the logo.

Andrii / Satori Studio

webob Purchased

Being used for Ikebana. Icon does not appear in the icon menu. What should I do? Oh ~ And does not change as favicons.

satoridesign

Hey webob,

first of all, thank you for the purchase!

When uploading the image for an icon menu item, please make sure that the image gets saved – in case the „File URL” field displays an attachment URL (ending with „?attachment_id=xx”) or an empty field in the image upload overlay box, press the „File URL” button below the url field so that the link is a direct url of the image file (ends with the filename of the uploaded file). Once you have chosen the item and settings, press „Add to OptionTree”.. In case this does not help, please let me know!

Sincerely,
Andrii / Satori Studio

Hello,

Your theme is probably the closest one I am looking for that is similar to a website I really drooling over for my site. The website I am talking about that you can check it out:

http://stevenfurtick.com/blog/

I am not sure how they do with their tweets on their site. Automatically with twitter feeder or manually? Is it something that can be done with your theme?

Another questions:

1.) Can I change the color of the site? The background and nav bar?

2.) Where can I put my logo in? I was hoping to put logo in the header before the navigation menus like Steven Furtick’s blog site, but the idea on top left box might not be bad idea.

3.) Can I modify category icons that are on the top left?

Erik

satoridesign

Hey Erik,

thank you for expressing interest in Ikebana!

The website you’ve provided a link to does have a similar masonry layout to the one attained with the theme, yet for the sake of clarity I need to mention that in order to look exactly the same, Ikebana would need certain customizations which are not covered by the ThemeForest support offer, foremost displaying tweets in separate tiles. I will go over your questions in more detail below:

1). At the moment, Ikebana does not have an option to display tweets in tiles based on a certain Twitter account feed. One would either need to add the tweet text manually to each new tile, or create a custom new template file which would access the Twitter account and pull the tweets, yet the latter, as mentioned earlier, will have to be done outside of the theme support, since such feature wasn’t envisaged in Ikebana originally.

2). The theme’s Options Panel allows changing the color of any element of the website to one’s liking.

3). In Ikebana you can also put the logo in the top left corner of the header, this setting is also located in the Theme Options panel.

4). Yes, the icon menu on the left can be modified fully – you can have any number of items there, with any images, any labels, and linking to any page inside or outside the website.

Should you have additional questions about the theme, do not hesitate to contact me!

Sincerely,
Andrii / Satori Studio

Theme is not working properly – New excerpts not shown – Custom Sidebar cause “Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by..”Errors. Can´t even create a login to your Support Site to get any help ([RocketTab] ReadResponse() failed: The server did not return a response for this request.). WP is newest version – all plugins are updated – Imported Demo looks fine – until i start to work with – the formatings disapear.

satoridesign

Hey Gabiposch,

first of all, thank you for the purchase!

This hasn’t been reported previously, so let’s troubleshoot. Could you please send me an email to support@satoristudio.net with the URL of your website, as well as admin log-in information (username/password). I will look at the back-end and the code and provide detailed instructions on how to fix the issues.

Regarding the forum registration bug: from the error message you’ve posted, there’s a high probability that it is connected with malware on your computer. Please try registering on the forums from another machine (preferably connected via another network access point, i.e. for example your work computer) – if the registration is successful in that case, please follow the steps outlined in this post. If you cannot register from another machine as well, please let me know, I will double-check the forum registration systems one more time.

Sincerely,
Andrii / Satori Studio
