Hello, Can you help find where in the css I can change the text size of the portfolio item text, the one that apears inside de squares. I hope you understand what I mean…

thanks,

NP

satoridesign

Hey NP,

first of all, thank you for the purchase!

I’ve checked the theme options and see now that the “Body font size” setting does not affect the portfolio item box test – my apologies for that and thank you very much for pointing this out! I will definitely include the fix into the upcoming theme update. Before that, you can find the CSS line that controls the needed font size on line 510 of the “style.css” file (starts with ”.iso-masonry .post”). Or you can insert this code into the textarea on the “Style: Add Custom CSS” tab of the theme options panel:
.iso-masonry .post { font-size: 20px !important; }
changing the “20” to any number you wish.

Let me know if this fixes the issue!

Sincerely, Andrew / Satori Studio

Hello Satori, Great work on the theme. I am one of your happycustomers. I need your help solving some issues:

1. The logo you displayed on the demo is a portfolio item right? If so, how did you make it link to the same page that it is on ie. the homepage and also, how is it that the project type icon is not displayed on it?

For now that is what I have been struggling with. I have succeeded in displaying my logo as a sticky project. Now, I need it to behave like a logo and not a project.

expecting a speedy response.

Thanks

satoridesign

Hey Pistachio,

first of all, thank you for the purchase!

The green logo on the front page of the demo is a project item with a “link” format – you can choose the post format in the “Format” meta box in the right side of the edit page. I simply gave the project the URL of the front page of the website (you can read more about project and post formats on pages 8-9 of the theme manual). The project type icon is not displayed on link posts by design, mostly because usually link-format items contain text and not a thumbnail; however, I do realize that it is a bit confusing, which is why I will introduce a specialized back-end setting in the upcoming version of Ikebana (1.3) which will allow controlling whether to display or to hide the type icons for specific post/project formats.

Should you have more questions, do not hesitate to contact me!

This is the best Theme, the best Author and the best support. You must be a great guy Andrew. Thank you for your quick response. Please keep it up!

Thanks, Pistachio! Always nice to hear such words :)

Hi there!

I really like the portfolio grid layout of your theme, but I would like that type of layout for my blog posts instead of portfolio items. Is this possible with Ikebana? Thanks!

satoridesign

Hey Greeentee,

In principle, there is virtually no difference between a blog post and a portfolio project in Ikebana, and both allow various formats (standard, image, gallery, video, quote, aside, link); the only technical difference in that the posts are displayed in the blog and the projects are displayed by the portfolio page. So in case you want to create a blog with the tiled layout as seen on the front page of the Ikebana demo, you can simply use the portfolio functionality for the blog and call it “blog” ;)

If, however, you want to have a blog with tiled layout and a separate tiled portfolio, then it is currently not possible in Ikebana – I styled the blog and portfolio differently on purpose (in order to enhance usability and avoid confusion for the visitors).

In case I wasn’t clear enough or did not understand the question correctly, please let me know!

Sincerely,
Andrew / Satori Studio

Awesome! A couple of follow up questions then: 1. Can the site width (and also sidebar width) be easily changed? 2. Can the post type identifier (on the top right of each tile) be easily removed?

Thanks so much!

satoridesign

Het Greeentee,

to answer your questions:

1). The width of the main content area is rather difficult to manipulate in Ikebana, as it is defined automatically by scripts depending on the width of the portfolio boxes and the margins between them (both of which can be set manually via the Theme Options panel). The width of the sidebar is not changeable via the settings, but it is possible to alter it by inserting a line of CSS code (should you need that, just let me know).

2). Yes, from version 1.3 I’ve introduced a specialized setting following several feature requests from the users: it is now possible to control whether to show or hide the project format identifiers for each individual project format (i.e. standard, video, and image/gallery).

Should you have more questions, do not hesitate to ask!

Sincerely,
Andrew / Satori Studio

Hi again, some questions:

1. Deactivating plugins seems impossible, unless you delete them? 2. How do I deactivate the comments form in blog posts (it can be done in projects, apparently…)? Also I would like to use the standard wordpress form or plugins like disqus. 3. Where can I modify the size and colour of the ‘submit comment’ button?

//Alex

satoridesign

Hey Alex,

first of all, thank you for the purchase!

I will answer your questions in the same order:

1). Yes, I’ve made it so that the plugins which are bundled with the theme and are styled and adjusted for usage specifically with Ikebana switch off automatically when you deactivate Ikebana, i.e. activate any other theme. This is the second question of this sort that I get on Ikebana, could you please help me by explaining the reason why you need to deactivate a particular plugin? (I wish the theme to be as user-friendly as possible, so user feedback is very important to me).

2). In WordPress, you can deactivate comments on a blog post by un-ticking the “Allow comments” option in the “Discussion” box below the main content editor area in the post edit mode; in case the box is not displayed by default, you’ll need to open the “Screen Options” tab in the top right corner and tick the “Discussion” item.

3). The color of the “Submit comment” buttons can be changed by the “Button background color” option in the “Style: Content, Widgets” tab of the Theme Options panel. The size of the buttons is not adjustable from the back-end as of now (I decided not to introduce this option to preserve the theme’s style), but you can do it via one line of custom CSS: please add this line to the textarea in the “Style: Add Custom CSS” tab of the Theme Options panel:
#respond input#submit { padding: 8px 13px !important; }
The first px number corresponds to the height, and the second – to the width of the button, you can set them as you like.

Should you have more questions, do not hesitate to contact me!

No Thanks

Ikebana is a very engaging theme – love the metro-inspired look, and you executed it beautifully. I’m also glad to see you already added a few updates from user requests, such as setting unique background colors per page/section.

Question: Would you mind providing me the name of the font you used for the theme demo? If I were to guess…Open Sans, perhaps?

Thanks for your time,

NINkitten

satoridesign

Hey, NINkitten,

Thank you for the kind words!

I used the Open Sans font in the Ikebana demo, the “light” version of it (CSS font weight = 300).

Hello, I have a request for version 1.3.

I love the theme but there is one thing that really bugs me: When you are at the home screen and use the Left side menu to filter out posts/works there is a nice smooth transition and you can see all the little squares arrange themselves – fantastic. However if you click on a post/work to view its page and use click on the Left side menu to navigate to another project the smooth transitions stop happening, the page is forced to completely re-load every time.

I’ll post some images to explain exactly what i mean.

satoridesign

Hey Simon,

a “back” (or “back to portfolio”) button for individual projects sounds like a viable idea, thanks! I will try to implement it as an option today and get back to you.

Ok, thanks.

One last thing, I can’t seem to be able to find how to get the title “double box” to work. This is a really nice feature and I’d love to know how to get it to work.

Thanks for the great post-sale support by the way :D

satoridesign

Hey Feto,

The rectangular element you are talking about is the portfolio tag identifier which contains the name of the tag and its description (the full list of portfolio tags is available in the “Portfolio -> Tags” admin menu). The box generates automatically on all portfolio tag pages (most importantly, the pages you arrive on when you click a portfolio filter button outside of the portfolio page). For usability and design reasons, the portfolio page itself can only contain square elements.

Sincerely,
Andrew / Satori Studio

Massive Apologies if you have answered this elsewhere, Ive tried to do a quick check of the comments and support page.

Is there a way to randomise the portfolio page posts rather than having it based on date created / ascending or descending?

Thanks.

Hi, I’m playing with the theme. How can I create a portfolio page (I have already created projects) and make it a WP site home page? Thanks.

satoridesign

Hey GoodTeaEu,

first of all, thank you for the purchase!

To create a portfolio page, you will need to add a new page (“Pages -> Add New”) and set its template to “Portfolio” in the “Page Attributes” meta box. The front page display settings in WordPress are located in the “Settings -> Reading” admin menu (the “Front page displays” field is what you’re after). More information on portfolio page setup can be found on pages 4-6 of the theme manual.

Should you have more questions, do not hesitate to ask!

Hi Satoridesign,

Some request, may you add the option for the automatic change size for the box dimension when I open in my mobile phone.

I try to set the box dimension 100, showed in the mobile phone is accepted but showed in my desktop computer too small.

Are you understand my meaning.

Thanks.

Sorry again, my english very poor.

I want the smaller portfolio box viewed from a mobile and become larger when viewed from a computer.

Thanks

satoridesign

Hey Martin,

I will look deeper into this and see what I can do, but so far I am not sure that the standard boxes need to change size when viewed from different devices – the larger ones already do though.

hi satoridesign,

first of all: great work, amazing theme-design, love it!

I’m new to webdesign, so it might be an easy solution, but how can I change the “find..”appearing in the header search box to a custom text? (I’m from germany, so the text in the search box should also be in german).

thanks in advance

satoridesign

Hey Flipperche,

thank you for the purchase and for the kind words!

Ikebana has a built-in interface for translating theme’s strings – all you need to do is to go to “Localisation -> Edit” admin menu, input “Find..” (without quotes) into the “Old” box, your desired string (e.g. “Suchen”) into the “New” box, and “satori” into the “Domain” box and hit “Save”. You can find more information about this and other built-in theme features on page 12-13 of the theme manual.

Should you have more questions, do not hesitate to ask!

hey satoridesign,

great support! works fine!

thanks a lot!

Dear Satori Design,

First of all, I wanted to congratulate you on the beautiful template you have created. I am interested in purchasing this template to create my website that will showcase the various products I carry. The way I want to do it that for some I will use the gallery post and others the video post. I also want my clients to be able to reply/leave a comment/contact us through each post. Forgive me as I do not have a technical background and have certain questions before I purchase the template.

1. There are two ways the tabs are aligned- on the top and sideways as widgets. Is there a way I can only use the widgets/icons that appear on the side for my purpose and do away with the top tabs.

2. The gallery post does not have text in it. Is there a way to include text in the gallery post.

3. Some of the post have the roll-over title function. Can this be made available for all posts so the user can always see the title of the post before making clicking on it

4. There are some text boxes and pictures that do not have a hyperlink and serve as placeholders. While I may be keen to use that ideally I want it to be a portfolio for all my products.

5. The green and grey theme- is it a skin or have the pictures been modified

6. There are cases where the boxes show the pictures in black and white however when you enter it- it is a coloured picture. I really like that- is that a function of adding two formats of the same picture or the template itself.

7. Is there an endless scroll function?

Thank you in advance for answering all my questions.

satoridesign

Hey Viaearthlife,

Thank you for expressing interest in my work!

I will answer your questions in the same order:

1). Yes, you can use the left icon menu alone on a website.

2). No, gallery posts is a specialized format for displaying images; however, in principle it is not so difficult to enable text in there. I can help you out with that in case you decide to go forth with the theme.

3). All posts except the gallery format can have captions; the gallery format does not have them for aesthetical and usability reasons (they would block the controls then).

4). Certainly, you can have all boxes link to specific project pages – the demo is there to showcase all possible variations ;)

5). You can upload any images into an Ikebana based website; the colours can also be changed for each individual layout element through the Theme Options panel without the need to touch the code.

6). Black and white images were added for aesthetic reasons :) The portfolio boxes show thumbnails (which in that case are black and white), while the projects themselves display full-color images which were uploaded inside the project content.

7). So far Ikebana has no endless scroll option, but I am considering adding it in the next theme update (version 1.4).

Should you have more questions or in case I was unclear at any point, do not hesitate to contact me!

Sincerely,
Andrew / Satori Studio

Hello again,

First off I love your theme, and I want to use it for my project, but I’m afraid its not flexible enough for what I want, or (most likely) Im not setting it up correctly.

I imported your dummy content, so I have already a user with your name, do you need a password? I Can send you by private message for you to login? I think its better for you to understand…

I already read your documentation and be at the forum but I cant understand what’s going wrong.

The website Its almost as I would want it but theres some details that makes it not working as I want.

I’m gonna try to explain my problems:

- The home page is the portfolio, so every “portfolio item” appears in the home page, is there a way to only appear the projects with a specific tag (home for example?) in the homepage? Do you understand, I would like to, when someone opens the website only appears the projects with the home tag, and then when navigating throe the left menu specific projects with that tag apear.

- The icon/tag menu (on the left) is working fine, but only if you navigate from the homepage, if I go to a page, and then click int the left menu it doesn’t work… I can see that in the browser it appear ”/tag-portfolio/” but I cant understand from where that appears…

- I read in some comment, that you said that the description of the tag appears in the “double square” I would love that to happen, but it doesn’t, I don’t know why…

I hope you understand my doubts, because I really wanna use your theme.

Thanks in advanced…

NP

satoridesign

Hey NP,

I’ve gotten to the root of the problem! It was indeed my fault, a confusion between the names and the slugs of portfolio tags – since the theme demo has identical tag names and slugs, it was not surfacing during the development. With the current code the icon links can also work, provided that you make identical names and slugs for all tags – but I think this is an unreasonable limitation which may affect both usability and SEO.

I’ve modified your files so that the tag archive page URLs match the icon menu generated URLs: in the “Filter” field of the icon menu tags in the Theme Options panel, one will now need to input the slug of the tag and not its name (I’ve changed all the values for you). Please look at your website, the icon menu links seem to be working as intended now.

I sincerely apologize for the error, and for taking so long to understand you requests (I should’ve asked for admin access right away :) And -thank you for pointing out the issue, I will definitely include the fix and additional information into the upcoming theme update!

Best,
Andrew / Satori Studuo

hello, i am considering buying this theme, but i’d need to use it in a certain way and i am not sure that will work:

i’d basically need to have 3 pages which all contain a masonry list of tiles (as on your demo home page), BUT i’d need the vertical icon navigation on the left to be different on each of these 3 pages (as each page would contain different files (i guess in different categories).

would that be possible?

also please let me know if your theme would be fully functional with qTranslate for a multi language page!

Thank you so much – i really hope i can use this theme! :)

satoridesign

Hey Steve,

thank you for expressing interest in Ikebana!

I will answer your questions in the same order:

1). Ikebana has a portfolio page template which displays all project items (and can be set as a homepage), and portfolio tag archive pages, which are generated automatically and contain only the projects with a particular tag. The icon navigation menu is single for all pages in Ikebana, but technically it is quite possible to hide/show particular icon menu items on particular pages (by adding simple CSS in the form of:
.term-XX .icons-item-YY
where “XX” is the tag ID and the “YY” is the number of the icon menu item.

2). The theme hasn’t been tested with qTranslate in particular, but it is fully localization-ready, and all text strings in the code are wrapped in corresponding tags (“e()” and “_()”).

3). It is possible to show/hide the project format icons on a format basis, i.e. for example display only image format icons, or not display any at all. This option is activated by simple checkboxes from the Theme Options panel.

Should you have more questions, do not hesitate to ask!

Hey Chris,

first of all, thank you for the purchase!

You can set the number of portfolio items per page in the “Portfolio items per page” field in the “Portfolio Page” tab of the Theme Options panel. Please let me know if this does what you needed, or if I misunderstood your request.

Hi Andrew,

satoridesign

Hey Flipperche,

the “back-to-top” icon is a sprite image that can be customized by uploading your own version into the “Scroll to top button” field on the “Page Elements” tab of the Theme Options panel. You can find the original image in the “images” folder inside the theme directory (or here’s a direct link from the demo).
