Discussion on Ikebana - Masonry WordPress Portfolio Theme

Does this have the option for users to create an account and upload content to their own page like Pinterest?

satoridesign

Hey Rmaslikhov,

first of all, thank you for expressing interest in my work!

The user upload feature hasn’t been initially envisaged in the Ikebana theme, yet in principle if you create new users with a certain set of capabilities (incl. uploading images and creating new projects), you should be able to achieve this. One user setting plugin I would recommend is User Role Editor.

Should you have any additional questions about the theme, do not hesitate to contact me.

When I use the “Link” format on portfolio items, the hover seems to be acting weird. I’m in Firefox and Chrome on a Mountain Lion Mac, and they kind of vibrate as I move the link across.

Here’s the test site: http://www.massivecollaboration.com

satoridesign

Hey Texjer,

first of all, thank you for the purchase!

You’re right, the overlay behaviour is quite ugly for the “link” format tiles; my apologies for this one and thanks for bringing this up! I’ve prepared a fix – please download this archive, unzip it, and upload the resulting files into the theme folder (/wp-content/themes/Ikebana/), replacing the existing files. When you refresh the website after that, the “link” format tiles should only show an overlay on mouse hover when they have a thumbnail, otherwise only the link itself will be clickable. Let me know if the bug disappears after the update.

¿How I can translate text in icon menu items with WPML?

Thanks

satoridesign

Hey Teclat,

please update the theme to the latest version – the proper translation wraps for the icon menu labels have been added there.

Hi Andrii,

Please can you help me. I already have the latest version of the theme and do not see where to do the translation.

Thanks

Hey Teclat,

I will need to ask for access to the back-end in this case – could you please send me the credentials to support@satoristudio.net. Thanks!

Hello Guys,

i am interested in your theme, nice and clean design. I have question :

1. for the homepage, in the masonry blocs, is it possible to add embed video, embed Google map, a twitter & instagram feed, a custom link( like to a .pdf), and a newsletter sign in box ?

2.Is it possible to change easily the order of the block on homepage ?

Cheers : )

Default-user

Ok thanks for your fast answer,

Are you guys doing custom development like the ones i list above ?

Cheers : )

satoridesign

In principle – we do, yet at the moment there’s no time in the schedule to ensure a proper level of quality, thus I would have to refer you to specialized development/customization platforms such as Envato Studio.

Just to be clear – we do offer free support to all buyers regarding theme setup, bugs, fixes, and third-party plugin compatibility.

Sincerely,
Andrii / Satori Studio

thanks, you can refer me to them if you think it cant fit in your schedule, i need the project to be finish around mid july. Its just a homepage with the kind of blocks i described above.

thanks : )

Hi Satori Studio support,

firstly thank you for the wonderful themes!

I got some problems with the Ikebana theme:

1. Printing out the portfolio view results in cutted off boxes on the right. So not all information will be on the printout. I tested it on Chrome and Firefox. Do you got an idea how to resolve this? I tried it with a CSS workaround but the size attribute is not supported by every browser: @media print { @page { size:450mm 402mm; } }

2. On the iPad1 the screen flickers on load of the portfolio view. Tested it on two different iPad1 in Safari and Chrome. On iPad2 and later the problem does not reoccur.

Both points occur on the newest and older versions of Ikebana.

Thank you!

satoridesign

Hey Provinzglueck,

first of all, thank you for the purchase!

Thank you for bringing up these issues, I’ve spent quite some time now trying to find a cross-browser solution to the first one (it appears that there is no standardized way of printing out an Isotope masonry layout), yet I’m afraid I need more time. I will also need to find an iPad1 to test the theme on it, which may take some time. I would really appreciate if you could “bump” this topic again on Monday the 9th in case there’s no answer from me on that day. Thank you for understanding!

Sincerely,
Andrii / Satori Studio

satoridesign

Hey Provinzglueck,

after some extensive testing, I found out that all non-webkit browsers offer settings in the print mode to scale the masonry layout and fit it into the paper width, e.g. the “Scale” option in Firefox. It was thus left to find a way to alter the webkit-browser print layouts (i.e. Chrome and Safari), and after some meddling with the @print conditional CSS, I’ve managed to remove all Isotope transformations, forcing all tiles to be displayed on the paper. Please download this archive, unzip it, and upload the resulting files into the theme folder (/wp-content/themes/Ikebana/), replacing the existing files. This should force the webkit browsers to generate a less aesthetic, but more practical layout on print command.

Regarding the iPad issue: I couldn’t find an iPad1 to test it yet (my local stores only sell the second model, so have to search among friends), and the available web emulators do not seem to be able to reproduce the issue. Would it be possible for you to record a screencast on how the theme loads on iPad1, using Screenr for example? That would at least give me an idea how the situation looks in detail. Thanks!

Andrii / Satori Studio

Hi,

Great looking theme. Couple of questions:

The left hand icon navigation is presumably categories, is there any AJAX functionality for tags? (I’m assuming not, but thought I’d check)

Why is it on the demo, if the category (icon menu) is selected from a different page (such as the features page) the AJAX no longer works, unless you head to the home page? (e.g go to Features, then click Experiments. If you then click Services, it loads normally instead of the expected AJAX)

Thanks.

satoridesign

Hey ApinaPress,

thank you for expressing interest in my work!

The icon menu of the left hand side can have two modes: it can either be linked with a portfolio tag (one of taxonomies), in which case it will filter the portfolio (masonry) page or act like a direct link to the particular tag archive on all other pages; OR it can have any arbitrary URL set as a link (either internal or external), in which case it will always point to that URL and not act as a filter on portfolio page. The fact that the icon menu does not work as a filter outside portfolio pages in the first option is because there is nothing to filter when the tiles are not loaded, which made it more logical to point to the tag archive.

Should you have more questions about the theme, do not hesitate to contact me.

Andrii / Satori Studio

Hi there, I am interested in your theme and have three questions beforehand.

First, is the script that displays the pictures (like fancybox) hardcoded into the theme? I want to use the easy fancybox plugin for the settings and iframe capability, but had problems with a another theme (the reason I am looking at this now) which had fancybox hardcoded, which overrode the plugin settings.

Second, I love the masonry style and want to display pictures, quotes etc. and normal text posts. In the demo I see some tiles that have text, but you can’t click them to link to the posts page. Is this possible (to have some tiles preview the posts text)?

Third, is it possible (code wise) that I add a jquery “likes” script to the tiles myself, or will this interfere with the theme too much?

Thanks for info! Cheers (:

David

satoridesign

Hey David,

thank you for expressing interest in my work!

I will go over the questions in the same order:

1). Ikebana uses a customized version of the Easy Fancybox plugin for displaying the overlays; it is embedded into the theme, i.e. is not shipped as a separate plugin which can be uninstalled, yet it can easily be turned off (by commenting out one line of code in the theme’s functions.php file); if need be, I can show you how to do it.

2). Yes, it is possible to have clickable tiles with with text – if you use a “standard” project format instead of “quote” or “aside” on a project and add no thumbnail (featured image), it will produce a tile with text that points to the respective project.

3). This depends a lot on the actual code of the snippet; from jQuery side, there shouldn’t be any conflicts, because I use “noconflict” wrap for all scripts that I include into the theme; however, it is hard to tell how easy it will be to incorporate the new elements into the tiles design (i.e. the front-end), without seeing their actual code. For the sake of transparency, I must also mention that such additions are considered as theme customizations and are not generally covered by the free support offer; however, I do try to help out in case of small issues that do not require significant restructuring of the theme’s code.

Should you have additional questions, do not hesitate to ask!

Sincerely,
Andrii / Satori Studio

I’m looking to create a church website that’s similar to this:

http://gccwired.com/

Is Ikebana a step in the right direction?

Dale

satoridesign

Hey Dale,

thank you for expressing interest in my work!

Ikebana does offer similar functionality to the website you’ve linked to, yet it must be noted that in case you wish to implement all features from the GCC Wired in Ikebana, the theme would require certain customization, which is not covered by the ThemeForest support offer (I do try to help and provide guidance or even some additional code, though). In particular, please note the following differences between the website and the theme: - the left side menu is made from images with hover text in Ikebana, and does not fold on mouse click. - a countdown times, like on the second masonry tile, would require a separate plugin. - there is no option to put images into the area on the left (under the menu), this would have to be added via some additional code. - a layout such as on this page: http://gccwired.com/mission/ would require a new custom template file.

Should you have additional questions about the theme, do not hesitate to ask!

Andrii / Satori Studio

hello,

I have one problem with my ikebana theme. I don’t understand why my portfolio jump one line with my pictures.

thank you very much.

sorry for my english

satoridesign

Hey SAYConnected,

first of all, thank you for the purchase!

you’re right, that’s not supposed to happen, my apologies and thanks for bringing this up! I suspect that the reason might be in the fact that the Isotope plugin which builds the masonry layout takes the dimensions of the first tile as grid parameters, in case none were specified separately; I’ve prepared a fix, where the row height specification has been added to the code – please download this archive, unzip it, and upload the resulting file into the theme folder (/wp-content/themes/Ikebana/) via FTP, replacing the existing one. Please let me know if the file fixes the bug!

Hi Satori Studio,

I’ve purchased this ikebana theme just recently and I got some question or feature request :

1. Is it possible to change the width of the page? If I remember correctly the demo page before have like a full screen width or almost full screen width right?

2. I don’t think that the template has this feature right now, so maybe this is more like a feature request. I would LOVE if the portfolio page can make the featured image become a BLACK & WHITE image and when we MOUSE OVER it, it will become the original image (with colour).

If it’s too complicated, could you like give us the ability to set different image between normal and mouse over? I can live with this and edit my images to become a Black & White manually and upload both into each project. This will make non designer people like me can upload just any image we want without considering the colour clash

Thanks!

satoridesign

Hey Ajifsk,

I apologize for the delay in my reply! I’ve answered your question on the forum as well, so that forum visitors could also benefit from the information.

I will cover your questions in the same order:

1). Yes, there’s a special setting for that in Ikebana, please visit the “Page Elements” tab of the Theme Options panel and input your desired maximum width into the “Maximum content width” field. If you want to force the page to stretch to the max of the available screen with in all cases, you can set this parameter to a high number, e.g. 5000. The default setting is 1500 (pixels).

2). I am not planning to introduce this feature in full into the theme so far, mostly since it is quite specific for a wide-use theme; however, I can provide a piece of code for you that would implement greyscale hover effect on at least 90% of currently used browsers (this is also a more efficient solution, because loading each image in two alternatives would drastically increase the load time of the website, which could negatively impact use experience). Please see the code here.

You can insert this code into the “Style: Add Custom CSS” tab of the Theme Optoions panel (do not forget to press the “Save all changes” button to preserve the effect).

Is it possible to show all the blog posts on the index page ?

Can we individually set the size of the bloc for each post ?

I mean, I want one post to appear 4x sized, another 1x sized, another 2x sized, etc…

Default-user

1/ Wow, your theme almost reaches perfection :-)

2/ By clicking “show the source code” under my chrome browser, I see that the tiles do not appear in html code. So I have concerns about how the front page is seen by the Search Engines. What about the key words in the tiles’s titles for example ? But you allready answered my question :-)

satoridesign

Hey Zampai,

I suspect that what you are doing is checking the code of the frame which is added to ThemeForest to all theme previews. You can try to look at the code of the original theme demo (without the frame). Ikebana does not hide any HTML from the browsers.

Yes, sorry, I apologise for my mistake.

Hi Andrii, I’m almost done with our site – just wanting to add some excerpt text to each project square on the home page.

Please see the link: http://www.makingsense.co.uk/wordpress/

I can add the text fine so it appears when you hover over an image (just the one done for now) but is it possible to change the background colour of the text from black to white? Or ideally for the text block to have no background at all? If you could let me know where I might alter this, that’s be really helpful…

Many thanks, Anna

satoridesign

Hey Anna,

Before we proceed, I will need to ask for your purchase code for verification purposes; this is a standard procedure for every user of the themes and is meant to counter illicit copying. In order to obtain the Item Purchase Code, please log into your ThemeForest account and go to the “Downloads” tab. Locate the theme you purchased in your “Downloads” list and click on the green “Download” button. In the ensuing drop-down, choose “License Certificate & Purchase Code” and download the file. After you have downloaded the certificate you can open it in a text editor such as Notepad and copy the Item Purchase Code.

Thanks for your patience!

Hi, I am having trouble with the whole site appearance, and the icon manu is just never appear. Yes I did read document page3-4, and have demo content ready.

Could you tell me straight away these questions?
1. By using this theme, should I set Front Page and Post page(settings>reading)? if so, what to set?
2. I already have an icon menu, but it just not appear, what do I do more for the settings?

satoridesign

Hey Dreamwork,

first of all, thank you for the purchase!

Please check if the “Show icons only on portfolio pages” option in the “Icon Menu” tab of the Theme Options panel is ticked – if it is, the icon menu should indeed only bee seen on the portfolio page; if you want it to display on all pages, untick this setting and click “Save All Changes”.

If this does not resolve the problem, please let me know!

Hi, thanks this works.
Can I know what you have set in the settings>reading in the demo site?
I have it like this:

Or I like to know will this change something?

yes, the respective settings in the theme demo website are identical, in case you wanted to exactly reproduce the demo website’s structure. These settings do affect any of my themes, as any other WP theme.

Hi guys !! Love the theme ! I am bumping into a problem that I can’t get to figure it out . I want to create 3 pages ( links on the main menu ) with the portfolio template and I want each of my “portfolio pages” to display one specific tag/ or category .

Hope I am clear :) how do I set this up ? Thank you in advance for your help

satoridesign

Hey Pri_isc,

first of all, thank you for the purchase!

The “Portfolio” page template in Ikebana always displays all portfolio items, by design. In order to display projects with a specfic tag, there are automatically generated pages in the form of “example.com/tag-portfolio/slug” where “name” is the slug of the respective portfolio tag (“Portfolio -> Tags” admin menu), for example this page from the theme demo. You can add the respective tag archive pages to the menu by visiting the “Appearance -> Menus” admin section and choosing from the drop-down of Tags on the left. In case the Tags drop-down is not displayed, please open the “Screen Options” tab in the top right part of the page and tick both “tag” options. Note that since there are also post tags in Ikebana, which is a separate taxonomy, you will need to look for one of the two “Tags” drop-downs that are displayed on the left. Should you face problems with this procedure, do not hesitate to contact me!

Hi Andrii ! Thank you for your explnation ! so I succeed to do it but is there anyway to get the url without the “TAG-PORTFOLIO/nameofthetag/” ? I would the URL to display like a url page, not like a tag … is that somehting possible ?? :/

Thanks a lot in advance !!

Priscillia

satoridesign

Hey Priscillia (..a beautiful name!),

the theme does not envisage changing the permalink structure of the tag archives, yet it is achievable via a third party plugin; I would recommend this one, I’ve used it myself on several occasions.

Sincerely,
Andrii / Satori Studio

Hi Andrii,
I like to know what you have set for this portfolio item:
This item does connect to home page, but what you have on it’s content and key settings? I couldn’t copy one like it does on your demo site. Can you please share an item screenshot? I like to know at least what you have on the Permalink.

satoridesign

Hey Dreamwork,

the procedure for creating a linked tile is explained in detail in the “FAQ” section of the theme manual (Appendix 1) ;) Here’s the text for brevity:

The green “Ikebana” tile in the theme demo is a “link”-format project with a thumbnail (featured image) and link URL of the website’s front page. You can find more information about the formats in the “Post Formats” section of the manual. Note that in order for it to stay in front of all other project in the grid, you’d need to declare it as “sticky” in the “Sticky (Always First)” meta box while in the project editor mode.

Should you have additional questions about the theme, do not hesitate to contact me!

Sincerely, Andrii / Satori Studio

Hello! We have purchased your theme, and it was the perfect solution we needed for one of our clients requirements. Thank you for this beautiful theme! Now we need to display only posts from a certain category in the home page. We have a lot of categories in our portfolio, but just want to show “home” category on front page. Is it possible?

Thank you.

Thank you again. But still like the day before: masonry style not working. Have just uploaded and replaced those new files, but it’s still the same.

satoridesign

Hey CalleMayor,

you’re right, haven’t added the necessary conditional statements to a couple of places. Here you go, please unzip this and upload the resulting files into the theme folder (/wp-content/themes/Ikebana/), now it should work properly.

satoridesign

Hey Mvinding,

first of all, thank you for the purchase!

Glad to hear this has been solved; for other users: the’s a special settings in the Theme Optons panel which does exactly that – allows controlling the behaviour of the portfolio tile overlay text – either always showing, always hidden, or shown on mouse hover.

Hi man, I couldn’t create an image gallery like yours in a portfolio post. Your demo site displays the gallery like this portfolio. also see mine.

And I tried a lot different settings just never only displays a slider with 2 arrows, all the images are displaying under the slider. Could you please tell me what you have set in the gallery-post?

satoridesign

Hey Dreamwork,

I can see via your link that the project in question has got a slider just like is intended for a gallery type. Have you solved the problem in the meanwhile, or is it still topical? If the former, what was the cause?

Sincerely,
Andrii / Satori Studio

dreamwork

HI,
no I didn’t solve it, in your demo gallery-post, there is no thumbnails in the bottom of the portfolio, I like to know how you do this?

satoridesign

Hey Dreamwork,

simply remove all the images from the project’s content – the gallery slider is formed from the attached images (i.e. those you upload into this particular project), irrespective of the fact if you insert the images into the project content itself or not.

Sincerely,
Andrii / Satori Studio
