Hello,

Does any one know how to upgrade the Kauri theme in a safe way? I use the wp-ecommerce version. The update function via Envato plugin seems to work only with the woo-commerce version (it says “no kauri theme installed” in my WP-admin. What I’m looking for is a best practice. I’m no familiar with working with a child theme. I would like to learn this for this theme. Any help would be very appreciated.

AligatorStudio, could you provide me/us purchasers with a little piece of documentation about using the child theme?

Hi,
unfortunately, TF didn’t anticipate multiple versions of theme in one download package, and we had to choose on version to be upgradeable with Envato Toolkit so we chose WooCommerce version :/ .
I’m not sure what you mean by the “safe way”, but we’re working on implementing Kauri’s own updater, not depending on Envato toolkit. This will enable those who didn’t buy Kauri to have updates, but, it will make the buyers (you :) ) easier update.
In the meantime it’s safe to just download the latest version and install update “manually” – it has some advantage, too – you can have multiple versions to switch between …
AS for working with child theme there is a comprehensive guide on Wordpress Codex – http://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes , but you’re right, documentation is lacking child theme support, and we will correct that in next versions. (sorry, but, the Kauri upgrade is waiting for WooCommerce upgrade to 2.0, which should be soonish …)

Thanks! One more question: when backing up the theme options I expect that it will generate a file for later restoring. Where is this file saved? Shouldn’t I be able to ‘rescue’ this file first before I perform a complete fresh install of the theme or even Wordpress? When I perform a complete fresh install of WP+Kauri theme on an empty webserver the backup of the theme options file will be lost too, or…???

Backing theme options is taking place in database, so, yeah, when you perform fresh install you cannot restore them, except if you know how to use MySql … So, if you do know that (using PhpMyAdmin, for instance) – Theme options are stored in wp_options (where wp_ is database prefix) table, row of_options, so you can copy the rows option_value and copy it to fresh WP/Kauri installation.

Hi,

I have a problem with Kauri theme : in appearance/styling option/Font settings : I can’t change it ! Headings font, Body font and links and menu colors are not availables and I dont understand why ? My version theme is v.2.1.3. (with wp e-commerce). I’ve got another problem : my home menu doesn’t appear in my website and only appears in appearance/menu. I dont understand why? Hi, theme options need to have set permissions to right folder to save style changes. Please, send us email to themes@aligator-studio.com so we can give you info about that permissions (not to share them publiclly ) and send us admin access info to solve your issue from your next reply (possibly some plugin is creating problem)

Hi, we just tested your url on Safari/Win7 , Safari/OS X Snow Leopard, Safari / iPad2/3 and didn’t notice any errors … What is exactly the issue ?

I have just got my site up and running the Kauri them and wp ecomm plugin. Unfortunately, I can’t complete a checkout transaction. Instead of directing to Paypal when the “purchase button” is selected, it simply reloads the current “shopping cart checkout page”. Any ideas why it wouldn’t redirect to paypal?

Yes, everything should work ok with Kauri v.2.1.4 and WooCommerce 2.0.2. We updated WooCommerce and didn’t notice any issues. By reviewing changelog for v 2.0.2 none theme woo files shouldn’t be affected.
We made extensive theme adaptation to WooCommerce v2.0, prior to it’s release (using RC1 and RC2 versions) so there woudn’t be any delays with theme/plugin compatibility.
We tested theme, but, please, if you notice any issues (things that worked before and now don’t), let us know via email – themes@aligator-studio.com.

About updating wp-ecommerce version and child-themes…

Could you please elaborate, step by step, the method recommended by your team for updating to the latest version of your theme? Our site is using the 2.1.3 version of the Kauri theme, and really like the look of it.

We cannot, however, update to latest wordpress, as 2.1.3 throws errors when run under wordpress 3.5.1, and we are keen to maintain an upgrade path for both theme and platform.

Hi,
update issue – since Kauri has two separate install zip files, for two versions (WP e-Commerce and WooCommerce) we had to choose one to be available for automatic Theme forest updates (using Envato toolkit plugin) so we chose WooCommerce version.
Still, you can download latest Kauri package (you have access to latest package download), and install it from your computer, using Wordpress theme upload page (Appearance > Themes > Install themes tab > Upload) or by using FTP.
When using child theme, after parent theme update, you need to change references to parent theme in style.css and functions.php files.
Can you provide the site address so we can inspect the errors after Wordpress 3.5.1 upgrade ?

Errors were not left in place, we rolled back to 24 hr backup. Our likely process is to first update the theme, then the WP install.

What we’re asking for is a step-by-step for the part of the instructions after “upload.” Is there a step-by-step for the process of moving options, settings, css, etc .. from the old install to the new one?

In specific what is the cleanest, most efficient way to upgrade from the old theme, to the new one, once uploaded?

We found error in download package, so this could be the reason for your error after upgrade. Sorry for that, we already corrected that issue and the corrected version (the numbering stayed the same – 2.1.4) is in Theme forest upgrade queue. To send you the files for correction, please send us email to themes@aligator-studio.com

After theme upgrade, there is no need for moving options, settings etc. – just select newly uploaded theme in Appearance > Themes.
, so there are actually no steps to define, except, after you activate newest theme, go to Theme options and just click save option (to create new css in theme with your theme customizations). After upgrade, everything should look same as in v.2.1.3. , upgrade to 2.1.4. contains mostly adaptations to new WP e-Commerce version 3.8.9.5

The zip file downloaded cleanly, was placed in browser based file-uploader.

Wordpress gave the error :

The downloaded zip is not installable wordpress theme itself – it’s a package that contains among other files (woocommerce, wp e-commerce and other plugins, documentation) installable Kauri files, too .
In downloaded package there are two installable Kauri theme files:
  • kauri_woo.2.1.4.zip – the WooCommerce version
  • kauri_wpsc.2.1.4.zip – the WooCommerce version
You should extract those two zip files from the package to location on your computer and then upload them using Wordpress theme installer or FTP (copying folder in zip to “themes” folder in wp-content directory) and then activate the theme. Choose your version of theme (WP e-Commerce or WooCommerce), upload and activate it and then repeat the process for plugin, respectively (plugin and theme version should match, don’t use Kauri Woo theme with WP e-Commerce and vice-versa)

I am trying to install the newest version of Kauri theme with the newest wp-ecommerce and Wordpress. I have problems with the homepage slider – the third picture does not fit and the slider does not work. With the first installation I had the same error message as reported in earlier comments, but after reinstalling with the newest wp-ecommerce there is no error message but the slider does not work. I am using the slider for featured posts (without buying options) but with featured products it looks the same.

Hi,
by inspection your page, we found javascript error produced by the script file not found whcih caused layout error. It seems that, for some reason (server error?) javascript file “jquery.fancybox-1.3.4.js” didn’t copy to server.
Please locate this file in downloaded package (inside theme kauri_wpsc.2.1.4.zip file) and copy it in js/fancybox directory and everything should work fine.

Help, I don’t know how to get the home page slider to work … is it just me? Documentation said to set it up in the home page config under theme options but I can’t find it anywhere.

Please, download the Kauri again from Theme forest. Your current version is missing some theme files by error, and this is fixed with the current theme available for download on TF. Sorry for this inconvenience. Dropdown menus will appear after you re-download the Kauri (it’s all part of same error – missing some js files). And, aren’t you already using WP e-Commerce ?

Did you install Woocommerce with Kauri WP e-Commerce version ? That won’t work ! Off course your slider doesn’t work …
If not, that is, if you matched versions – Kauri Woo and WooCommerce, still there are things that can interfere between versions (like, both Kauri versions have same Theme options, but different settings inside …). The best way to solve this would be if you send us temporary admin access info for your site to themes@aligator-studio.com and we will install all the latest versions for you and correct issues. Just let us know which plugin are you using – WooCommerce or WP e-Commerce (in which version are current products entered).

Kauri doesn’t have bulit in gallery, support for WP gallery is rudimentary, but NextGen gallery works with Kauri just fine (I just test it a bit, and it works as usual … that is, good ;) )

Hey I am using Kauri for my website www.sikafashion.com , when I choose the dark.css or dark_blue.css as the option in theme skin, I get some little diagonal white lines around the menu bars and the feature slider … please take a look and tell me how that can be corrected

thanks for the quick reply my man… One more question. In the featured slider, Ive set it to display the products but the first box is zoomed in a bit too much on the product and only a part of it is seen. How do I zoom out.

There is no way to “zoom” image from theme options. You can use different image, which has your product placed more in the middle, or, change crop area in Media Library > YOUR PICTURE -Edit. It would be the best if you upload not so small image (not too big though – arround 1200px in width or height would do …), and not very stretched (with large ratio width/height) images.

Great theme! We are just running into a couple issues.

1) The homepage carousel is not working properly, as you can see when you browse to our site. http://rooster.agultra.com

2) Some navigation is not working properly. Dropdown menus do not work, and our “Shopping Cart” link does not go to the cart.

Could you please try to point us in the right direction? We have verified all files are present and permissions are in place.

You have the version that misses some files in package and this is producing your error with slider and menus (some javascript files are missing).
We corrected that – please re-download the theme again and re-install the theme (it’s the same version 2.1.4).

Just click “Hide” button. :-) Theme fully supports WooCommerce and hiding the message will not affect any functionality of the theme or the plugin.

Hi, I am having an unexpected problem. Everything is working fine except suddenly I can’t view any of my products. When opening any product category or link it shows the “shop all products” page with no products, but the permalink is directing toward a specific category. I did not update anything before this happened. Just made some product changes to show a few (not all!) of my products as hidden. Some help please.
