Hi Chris,

Great work!

I’d like to use this theme for a “back office” portal. I have a small team and I’d like to document SOPs (standard operating procedures), included email templates, answers to our internal FAQs, etc.

I don’t want the public to be able to access the knowledge base.

It’s just for my team.

Is there a way to password protect the site/theme ?

If so, what are the details?

“This plugin only protects your WordPress content. It does not protect and images or uploaded files so if you enter and exact URL to in image file it will still be accessible.”

Hi we have been searching for a theme that will host our Knowledge Base articles 200+ segmented in groups/categories and tags.

We like this theme and have purchased it thought we need few questions answered as we cant find relevant information in the documents.

1. the theme puts every thing on the home page. How can we change this to be on a specific page and not on the home page? So we have Home Page with custom content/search bar etc, KB page with all the categories.

2. Is there a view/page/shost code to list all the tags and related articles in each tag/tag group?

3. When going to a post it uses DOMAIN/category/POST – can we change this to use /kb/POST?

Hi Chris,

I’m using the latest version of your theme and is great, good job! I do have however a strange issue when I upload a logo… it shows fine but there is a warning above it with the folowing message:

Warning: getimagesize(https://MYSITE/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/logo.png): failed to open stream: HTTP request failed! HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden in /homez.XXX/MYSITE/www/kb/wp-content/themes/knowhow/framework/styles.php on line 60

Hey there,

Some servers don’t allow this function so the easiest way to solve this would be to remove/comment out line 58 to 62 in knowhow/framework/styles.php

Looking at this theme for our company knowledge base, but we want to also house documents (PDF’s, Word Docs, etc.). I know we can upload documents into the Media section, but does this theme have a way to easily navigate and download documents?

I am having an issue when I turning sidebars off universally, or on an individual page. They remain. I was told this is a bug 8 days ago. Has this been addressed yet? Thanks!

what are the differences betwen your “support desk” theme and “knowhow” theme.

If you want forum (BBPress integration), FAQ and News section, Support Desk has all these features, whereas KnowHow only has a simple FAQ and Knowledge Base.

Saw your post about 3.9 shortcode issues. I haven’t found any other issues besides this.

Do you have a temporary workaround for column shortcodes? Specifically, what is the format for the 3 column shortcode (so I don’t have to wait until the update release)?

Hi Chris, I have a quick question. Although you announce that your KnowHow theme is compatible with WPML it has not been listed as such on the official WPML Theme Compatibility page. Also the theme doesn’t seem to include a wpml-config.xml file, which is a must if you want to be able to translate the theme options. Can you please elaborate? Thanks, Piet

No not at all. For 99% of customers it’s completely fine. All the front-end translations functions for WPML are supported.

It’s just the admin side translation support that could be improved.

But what about the theme options then? Search text, faq permalink slug, footer copyright text, exclude (sub)categories (IDs) on the homepage, I can’t find any of those back in WPML String Translations nor in admin text translations. Am I missing something? Thanks.

Hi Chris, that will have to wait as I am doing an assessment for a client who has already purchased the theme. I don’t have the admin details available.

I can assure you though that there is nothing going wrong in the theme setup, I just want to know whether you have made the theme options translatable or not.

I have been looking through the code and I cannot see anywhere how these variables should make it to the WPML String Translations, simply because your theme doesn’t have a wpml-config.xml file.

Take for example the WordPress SEO plugin by Yoast, that even comes with such a file to make it possible to translate the various options.

You have announced that your theme is fully compatible with WPML and even have used their logo for credibility purposes, however on the official WPML theme compatibility page your theme nor your company shows anything towards that credibility.

If you now also cannot answer a simple question, I’m afraid I have to draw my own conclusion, which is that your theme is full incompatible with WPML in its current state.

Another question. I noticed that the theme comes with a required plugin: MediaElement.js

However this functionality has been added into WordPress Core already in April last year.

Why is the plugin then still required?

The theme will only require MediaElement if you’re running a version of WordPress < 3.6.
