Can you post a changelog, please? So we know what files to replace. THX

ChrisMooney

Sorry I don’t publish changelogs, it’s not really practical.

Thanks

finkaboutit

Well, for everybody else it is.

ChrisMooney

Hey there, could you give me a use case? I’ve never had anyone request them.

Thanks

finkaboutit

If I must. The purpose of a changelog is so you know what changes have been made to the theme. This enables the developer to track what changes he made on a particular theme and the buyer/users of the theme know what to expect from the new version as well as what files to change (instead of the whole theme), helping them if they made some modifications to the theme themselves.

ChrisMooney

Hey there,

Thanks for getting back to me. I post in the update log an overview of what has been changed so customers know what to look out for in the updates.

If you want to make modifications to the theme itself, it’s much better practice to use a child theme (http://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes) and avoids the issue of having to maintain your own customizations in the core theme itself.

Hopefully that makes sense and you can understand the decision.

Thanks

finkaboutit

Can you simply give a list of what files have changed?

ChrisMooney

Sorry, it’s just not possible.

Hello. Im looking to buy this theme but i want to know if i am able to install this on my current site to stye and work how i like it. Is this possible.

Thanks in advance

ChrisMooney

Hey there,

It’s a WordPress theme so you need to have WordPress installed on your server to use it. It’s possible to customize the style of the theme with some coding knowledge.

Thanks

Hi,

Good work!

A few questions:

1. Is this theme language compatible with www.wpml.org ?

2. Are “tags” supported as a widget?

When reading an article there’s a lack of related information/fuctionalty showing (optional) such as:

3. Possibility to add “author” name to an article and search for all articles by this/the specific author?

4. Possibility to add “keywords” or “tags” to an article and have these showing in relation to the actual article and above acticle excerpt when clicking a category?

5. Add “genre” or “type” to the article?

6. Print function and Social Media possibility. Social icons or share function for each article?

Thanks

ChrisMooney

Hey there,

1. I haven’t tested it, but it’s fully localized with po/mo files so there’s no reason why it should work.

2. You could use WordPress’ tag cloud widget

3. Not in this version, but will make it into the next.

4. Tags are shown at the end of articles. Example: http://themes.swishthemes.com/knowhow/upgrading-your-theme/

It’s possible to add them to the category listed but you’ll need to edit that in yourself.

5. You’d need to use a plugin or code this yourself.

6. A plugin for this functionality is your best bet.

If there’s anything else let me know.

Thanks

Short review: I really like this template, but it currently has some significant bugs. For instance, searching for a word in one of your FAQ pages takes you to a search result page (which is great) but clicking on one of the faq entries gets 404. Similarly, in the control panel, clicking “view this page” on a faq gets a 404 (same URL , of course).

And, there’s very little ways to customize. Short on page templates, no way to disable the search box (even in a page template, since it’s part of the page header), etc.

The Home page was not customizable and there was no full-width page template until the most recent update.

Very nice typography and design overall, and you can change the default red color quite easily, but the theme in general lacks most features, but you can easily write them yourself, create your own page templates, add your own stuff to functions.php and styles. css (don’t forget to create a child theme!), and - of course - install tons of plugins to fill in the gaps.

As a Knowledge Base, it works pretty well except for some minor bugs and a general lack of extensibility/widgets/page templates/etc; I was going to use it for my main site but I’m going to look for something else instead. Might keep it for the support site, though, since that’s really what it is designed for. Overall, I’d rate it 3/5 or maybe 4/5 if you just keep in mind its limitations

ChrisMooney

Hey there,

Thanks for providing your feedback.

I’ll get the bug with the search page fixed and push out an update ASAP . Thanks for reporting this, no one else had reported this.

What features are missing, how could it be more customizable?

Chris, fantastic responsiveness! Here are a few things that would make it much better for me to use for my main site: 1) The ability to disable the search bar on a few pages (and maybe turn it into a widgetize area and the search bar into a widget, which would be far better) 2) A few more page templates would help, but judicious use of columns etc and/or other plugins can fix that. 3) Maybe a basic slider thrown in for good measure 4) Widgetized footers as well When all is said and done, I really love the overall theme. Fantastic typography and judicious and simple use of color. Very nice.

ChrisMooney

Hey there,

Thanks for getting back to me.

1) I can see how this could be useful, I’ll keep it in mind for the future :)

2) What sort of page templates? I’ve got the standard full width, sidebar left/right. Maybe I’m missing something?

3) A plugin would handle this fine. I don’t see the advantage of bloating out the theme with a slider, just in case.

4) As no.1 I’ll keep this in mind for the future.

Thanks for your feedback, I’m always eager to hear customer experiences and how I can improve the theme.

The latest update has fine tuned a lot of the code, and the next update will be improving several other areas.

Thanks

Hi i just bought this awesome theme!

i just got one more question if it’s possible to show up all the other posts in a category in a category list on alphabetic order. Please let me know!

ChrisMooney

Hey there,

You can do this manually by writing your own query for the category template or you could use a plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/

Thanks

Hi!

I think that this would be something great to add to this theme because when you have a lot of articles in one category it’s showing lot’s of text and it would be amazing if you could select how you want it to be sorted in a sub-category.

1) A list like it is at the moment. 2) An Alphabetic list where all the articles in one category are listed with only the title text showing up.

And some other types.

My idea was like this: Al the articles witch begin with A are listed under the letter A and B under the letter B etc etc etc…

If you don’t think this is an great idea i was wondering if you can just code this for me because i need to add 100 articles just under one category and it looks a lot cleaner when only the articles title is showing up. I think this theme looks awesome and i don’t hope i spend my 45 dollars for nothing.

What i mean with alphabetical listing looks something like this.

Please contact me if you can code this for me you would really help me out there. I’ll even pay you if needed to.

ChrisMooney

Hey there,

Unfortunately I don’t do custom work. I’ve made a note of your suggestions for possible inclusion in a future update.

Thanks for passing on your thoughts, it’s great to hear from customers. :)

Chris, I just created a video article by uploading a m4v. The video doesn’t work – the play button doesn’t do anything. Have you ever tried uploading a video to WP, rather than embedding a Youtube or Vimeo?

ChrisMooney

Hey there,

Could you email me via my profile a link to the page/post where the video is attached so I can debug?

Thanks

@kexx

I agree with you that alphabetical listing is a must. This should be added as an option.

Well then there is nothing else to do then see this as a loss. Hope you will update this soon if possible. Because this is a great looking theme!

For now i’ll keep on searching for something else that i can use instead of this theme.

thanks….

Please update this very soon, i just checked some of the websites that you recommend to make some adjustments to the theme and that costs me only 50 dollars to make the alphabetical listing. Then they only adjust it so there is a alphabetical listing based on the title of a an article.

“I don’t think we can make it so the list is displayed A…...list of articles B…..list of articles etc. We should be able to Alphbetize them and only show their titles”

I really need this without it this purchase will all be for nothing.

ChrisMooney

Hey there,

I’m sorry, but it’s up to you as a customer to check a theme is suitable before you purchase.

(pre-sales question) Chris, I need to be able to set up a small library of PDFs to support users of the KB. Is that easy to do with your theme?

ChrisMooney

There’s no built in functionality to do this. You’d need to arrange it yourself by using a plugin to upload/attached the PDFs to articles.

ALSO would BuddyPress be difficult to add?

ChrisMooney

BuddyPress works with any theme (in general) but it’ll be styled in it’s default style. i.e. there are no specific styles or functionality in the theme to support BuddyPress.

Is it easy enough for a non-techie to add an adsense area to this template?

Thx

ChrisMooney

It depends how well you know WordPress. You could probably use a plugin to achieve it, or you could just insert it into the templates if you know enough HTML .

Chris,

Beautiful theme. I am heavily considering purchasing. I was just curious, is the search box capable of picking up category pages rather than just articles?

Ex.) If I had a category “Orlando, Florida” could the search box direct a user to that category or sub category?

Thanks so much!

ChrisMooney

Hey there,

The search box uses WordPress’ native search. My default WordPress won’t include categories, but I have customers that use this plugin to achieve this: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/search-everything/

Could you tell me if it is possible to also have a blog page as part of this theme? We are considering this theme as a KB/intranet for our small agency and it seems almost perfect if an additional traditional style blog could sit on one of the pages.

ChrisMooney

Hey there,

With the way the theme works it’s not possible although this will be remedied in the future.

Thanks

After reading this page alone – I’d like to be the first person to say “Perfect Theme – leave it alone”.

It’s $45 and comes exactly as advertised and we are currently using it as an intranet for our agency and I will admit there are things I thought of while building it out – but I certainly don’t expect it.

And for those who think he should add sliders and footers and alphabetical listings – why not head over to ThoughtFarmer and spend the $500+/mo on an intranet that will do all the things you keep asking Chris for.

Thanks Chris for a well built and easy to manage theme. I look forward to any updates that you feel are necessary to making it a better product.

ChrisMooney

Thank you for your message. It’s really encouraging that the theme has been so useful to you, and I hope it serves you well :)

Hi,all is good and nice with the theme. One question. I want to disable the header on the category page. When I list my articles in a category I do not want to show the name of the category or the small icon. Thank you.

ChrisMooney

Hey there,

You’ll need to edit the category.php template for this.

Any idea what causes the difference in render for IE vs Chrome vs Firefox for the knowledge base custom category widget in the sidebar?

Even your live preview opened in the different browsers shows the difference.

Just wondering because i prefer the IE ‘box’ look for the categories.

Just realized even the live search bar is more rounded in firefox and chrome and square in IE.

Not a huge issue, just really like the uniform square look IE gives.

ChrisMooney

Hey there,

The reason you’ll get no rounded corners in IE (IE 8 and lower) is because the browser doesn’t support CSS3 . So elements appear square on IE8 and lower.

If you like this effect, you could edit the CSS and remove the CSS3 rounded corners from them elements.

Hi.

Can you let me know what the best size for images is, on the articles please?

Regards. Michael.

ChrisMooney

Hey there,

Post thumbnails are 150px x 150px.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks

MichaelMuscroft

Hi Chris.

Thanks for that, but I actually meant what is the max size for photographs in the post itself and/or featured image?

Cheers. Michael.

ChrisMooney

Hey Michael,

For images in posts the max-width is 660px.

Thanks
