will it erase anything i already have?

ChrisMooney

If you’ve made customizations to the theme, then you will loose them (i.e. edited the theme files). This is why it’s best to use a Child Theme if you customize.

All theme options and WP data will not be removed when upgrading.

Thanks

Hi there,

Can I limit how many sub-category items to show-up on homepage?

Cheers Karo

ChrisMooney

Hey Karo,

It’s currently not a feature of the theme, but I’ve made a note of your request. I’m looking at ways of making the homepage more flexible in the next version.

It’s possible to do in your case with an edit of index.php and look for ”// Sub category”. Then find the get_category function and add the ‘number’ => x, argument. See http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/get_categories

Thanks

Is there a way to improve the way this theme handles subcategories? When I categorize an article as a subcategory, but leave the parent category unchecked, it will list the article under the home page twice. Once under the parent and once under the subcategory.

One way to possibly fix this is to exclude subcategories from the home page and the knowledge base category list. Or at least show the hierarchy in the knowledge base category list.

Any suggestions?

ChrisMooney

Hey there,

Could you email me your WP admin details via the contact form on my profile page so I can take a look at this for you? I can’t replicate it on my end.

Thanks

The information was sent. Also, the whole hierarchy is wrong when dealing with subcategories in the main section of the home page.

ChrisMooney

Thanks, I’ve replied to your email. Looks like you’re running a old version of the theme.

Hello,

I just bought and install Knowhow but I dont have the small picture (the red dot) with the number of post in my menu.

Do you know what I need to do ?

Thanks

ChrisMooney

Hey there,

You need to use the Custom Category widget in the sidebar. Let me know if you have any issues.

Ok it’s working, I was using the regular category widget. My bad.

Thank you

No worries, easy mistake to make :)

Chris,

I want to buy this theme. Will I be able to turn responsive off?

Thank you.

ChrisMooney

Hey there,

There’s no option to turn it off, but it would be pretty easy to strip out the media queries from the stylesheet.

Thanks

Hi Chris – this thing looks ultra clean!

Question – what integration options do we have if we’ve already got a Wordpress-based site we’re happy with? Ideally, our users would click on a ‘knowledge-base’ button on one of the our existing pages and bounce into the ‘KnowHow’ theme. We’re self-hosted in our office on a LAMP box so we have more latitude than most I assume.

Thanks – Tom

ChrisMooney

Hey there,

You could turn your WP installation into a multisite install (http://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network) and create another site for the knowledge base. It depends on your requirements/setup.

How can I sort the categories?

ChrisMooney

Hey there,

At the moment categories are sorted by name, I’ll take a look to see what I can do about this for a future update.

Thanks

I need a solution to next week…any suggestions? Maybe there is a plugin that does the work?

ChrisMooney

Off the top of my head I can’t think of one. The function on the homepage uses http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/get_categories so you could change modify the query to order the categories how you want if you’re savvy with coding.

Thanks

I will take a look at it. Nevertheless, I beleive it is a important function. I mean, we have a category called “Downloads”....we would like that this category to come last, as it seperates itself from other categories.

For future updates, you guys should partner with a private login plugin provider as a knowledge base normally is kept private. That being said, great job on theme!

Great theme! I’d like to purchase but wondering if it’s compatible with WP 3.5.. says 3.4 on sales page and just want to make sure. Thanks.

ChrisMooney

Hey there,

Yup it works with no problem and I’ve had no customer issues with it.

(I’ll update the item page now, thanks!)

I am using the plugin “Post sorter” to manually sort order of categories.

However, ‘Category Post Ordering’ in theme options seems to still control the order the posts are shown below each category on the startpage.

How do I turn it off? I want the plugin to control the order. I am currently forced to choose between 3 options.

ChrisMooney

Hey there,

Sounds like hiring a freelancer would be best for you. You can modify the queries on the homepage to list the posts any way you want, but the theme options gives the most popular usage.

Thanks

Thanks for this theme, it was pretty easy to install and customize. I’m now looking at adding a widget on the sidebar to show the list of other articles belonging to the same category. I found some plugins to do so (WP-dTree for instance). The end result would be something like that: http://grails.org/doc/latest/ref/Tags/applyLayout.html

Is that something that you are planning on adding to your theme?

ChrisMooney

Hey there,

I’ve not had this suggestion before so I’ll have to look into it at some point, but if a plugin is doing the job for you, it might be redundant me adding it to the theme.

Have a great Xmas,

Thanks

Hi! This theme looks great and I’ll probably buy it. A question first: is it ready for private items? I want some questions/answers to be private within my organization. If a tag these private items under a “private” tag, is there a simple way to tell the theme not to show these items at all: not in the main pages, nor the search results, archives, et cetera.

ChrisMooney

Hey there,

You can use WordPress’ post/page password functionality to “lock” posts but you’ll need to look into a plugin or custom functionality to add what you’re looking for as it’s not available in WordPress core.

Have a great Xmas,

Thanks

Thank you ChrisMooney. I have realized that just setting the private items as “private” in WordPress’ admin and registering my team peers as “Editors” works like a charm for me. Private items only show up to us, and the items set as “public” are readable by anybody else (non registered readers).

I bought the theme. Great work!

PS: I will probably translate it into Spanish. Contact me privately if interested.

PS2: A type found here: #: ../framework/post-meta.php:35 || msgid “The video preivew image.” :-)

ChrisMooney

Thanks for letting me know about the typo, got that fixed :)

Great looking theme – I have a presales question regarding user editing in a “wiki” environment. Does this theme provide any kind of front end editing or are users directed to the back end/typical post editing screen? Thanks!

ChrisMooney

Hey there,

There’s no front-end editing, although there are plugins that can handle this for you. (search wiki at wordpress.org plugins repository)

Hey Chris,

I am thinking of buying this theme but I have one question before this:

is it possible to have a 3-step structure of the categories e.g.

-Account – Account Settings – How Secure Is My Password?

Or is this possible only with the 2-step structure as you have it in the live preview?

Thank you :)

ChrisMooney

Hey there,

3 step structures work fine with the theme. Only the first 2 will show on the homepage, but as you go into a category, subcategories as shown at the top.

Thanks

Hey Chris,

thanks for the reply.

The theme is working like a charm :)

I have just one small question – is it possible to setup the faq questions not only just by date?

ChrisMooney

Hey there,

You can use this plugin to arrange the FAQs: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/post-types-order/

Version 1.0.0 did not display a category on the home page, if the category is empty.

The new version 1.0.5 displays empty categories on the home page. Please let me know what files to edit, and what code to change, to fix this.

Thanks VERY much! :)

ChrisMooney

Hey there,

Thanks for letting me know about this, I’ll look into it for the next version. The index.php template is the homepage template file you’re looking for.

Thanks for the fast follow-up! :)

And… To anyone else experiencing this, I discovered a fix (don’t know if the is the “proper” way) but… edit index.php and find:

$cat_args = array( 'orderby' => 'name', 'order' => 'ASC', 'hierarchical' => true, 'parent' => 0, 'hide_empty' => 0, 'child_of' => 0 );

Change it to this:

$cat_args = array( 'orderby' => 'name', 'order' => 'ASC', 'hierarchical' => true, 'parent' => 0, 'hide_empty' => 0, 'child_of' => 0, 'hide_empty' => 1 );

I hope this helps somebody.

ChrisMooney

That’s the one :)
