Hmm, nice with the menu! Refrreshing departure from the run of the mill themes these days. Glad you have the boxed option, was a little worried. I have a client in mind for this, fingers crossed :)

webmandesign

Cool :) Glad you like it.

Just to let you know, boxed or fullwidth layout can be set per website section separately if you want and/or per page basis. And you can even choose from 2 different widths of the website: narrow 940px (default one, the demo website uses this width) and wide 1160px.

Does this theme have a visual editor? If not, will it work with one? Also, can one enable the search bar on every page? Does the theme have an update feature? Lastly, does the theme offer the ability to create custom post types? Thanks!

webmandesign

Hi,

The theme doesn’t include any visual editor, although I’ve tested it such plugin. Plugin works perfectly fine. So, since the plugin provides its own styles (which it should), you should be good to go. However, keep in mind that these styles – the design of plugin elements – may differ from the theme ones.

The demo content included provides so many beautiful page layouts from the start already :)

Search field is enabled in breadcrumbs bar by default, so it is accessible on every page (although you can disable the breadcrumbs bar per page basis…). But it is perfectly possible to place the search field into top bar for example so it is visible immediately on the top of every page/post.

The theme will let you know about a new update, but due to WordPress restrictions in this field it will not automatically update itself.

Not sure what you mean by “create custom post types”. I haven’t seen any theme doing this. If you mean whether the theme uses some custom post types, then the answer is yes. You can check them in theme features: http://themes.webmandesign.eu/lespaul/features/

Do you provide PSD Files in it

webmandesign

Hi,

“Unfortunatelly” I design in Inkscape or directly in browser. And this theme was designed mostly in browser, so no PSD files included.

But design customization is so easy you would be surprised. You can set any color for any website section and any background image or pattern (several patterns are already included – opaque and transparent ones).

Hello,

Is it possible to have a normal main menu in the header in stead of the graphics ?

webmandesign

Hi, Sure thing :) You can then simply set its padding too.

Hi, great looking theme, but I’m a bit worried about the “clients” widget. The logotypes are pixelated. They get smooth on mouseOver (slight delay), but looks bad from the start and they revert back to being pixelated again after mouseOut.

Are you seeing it too? I’m buying this if it can be resolved. The color-fade animation is not necessary for me, so if it can be turned off for better performance/look, then that’s ok too. OSX Snow Leopard / Chrome v24.0

Best, Andreas

webmandesign

Hi and thank you.

A possible “pixelation” effect you see is caused by CSS3 animation applied on the logo images and is actually a matter of browser rendering the effect. This can be easily turned off if you want though :)

Just drop me a line on http://support.webmandesign.eu and I will guide you through the process.

Oliver

Sounds good! Thanks for the reply :) I’ll make a purchase as soon as I get an OK from management.

Best, Andreas

webmandesign

Oh, and one more thought about pixelation. This is probably due to CSS3 animation applied on transparent PNG image (as those logos are). If you used images with white background for example, I bet the effect would be much less present.

Thanks for the tip! Oh, and it’s a deal – purchased! :)

Congrats! I took a look at the manual online and it looks amazingly thought out and featured.

I have some questions:

1. I see that a custom image can be placed into the header background. Can the height of the header with this image be varied?

2. Can you explain what areas are able to be customised with setting colours and background images – for eg. can a colour or background image be set for a normal header, page title header panel and the main body page content area?

3. Can the icons in the menu and the page headers be taken out?

4. Can simple sliders be created at any width on any page?

5. The tour sidebar navigation – is it possible to use that as a standard page sidebar nav linking to separate pages?

And some minor usability issues:

6. Like the last commenter I am finding some delays from the css animations. It seems like it is affecting the speed of elements like accordions, toggles, sidebar nav links etc. It would be good to see how fast it runs with these turned off.

7. Sometimes when a slider is in motion the drop down menu flickers on top and can be hard to select. This is also noticeable on the accordion page when the accordion is auto scrolling underneath the drop down menu.

8. When rolling over a 3D button it pushes the footer page content underneath down a pixel.

9. When clicking once into a form field, the ghost text does not disappear and has to be deleted manually.

Thanks!

webmandesign

Hello,

Thank you. Here are my answers:
  1. Design wise you can set any background for header and set its height easily in theme admin panel. This will set the header for the website globally. The images you mean are actually a slider images (you can use static images, videos, sliders and even a map) with slider set to be displayed beneath the header. As this can be done per page basis, the predefined header design is not being displayed on such pages (the header becomes transparent) to actually see the slider or map (as it is on contact page). I hope I’ve explained this in easy to follow way :)
  2. Yes, you can change colors/backgrounds for every single element of the website. Elements are basically all those gray horizontal sections you see in preview images of page templates section in user manual.
  3. Yes, icons are totally optional, you don’t have to use them at all. This is just to showcase what is possible with the theme.
  4. Not sure what you mean by “simple sliders”? If they are displayed in main slider area (the big one on homepage), they can be either fullwidth or keep the width of the page content. If they are placed directly into page/post content or a widget area (this is also possible), they can have any width.
  5. No. The special tour nav is actually a type of tabs. There is a widget in the theme that displays complete subpages (and parent and child pages) navigation of a current page, but it is not styled the same as tour tabs. Although, some custom CSS can do wonders ;) and I can help with that on support forums.
  6. Well, I can help you disable these when you set up the website on your server, but I will not disable it on demo website as it is meant to show what the theme is capable of.
  7. What browser, its version and operating system do you use, please? This is not happening for me.
  8. Known issue and will do my best to resolve it in next theme update. But this is just happening under certain conditions (on contact pages, right?).
  9. This is more of an issue of Contact Form 7 plugin. Theme doesn’t contain any form builder or something. It just provides design for forms. It was tested with Contact Form 7 plugin, Jetpack plugin forms and the theme update will support Gravity forms plugin too (I mean it works with Gravity forms already now without an issue, just some minor styling glitches).

Best regards,

Oliver

Thanks for the comprehensive answers.

Just to confirm,

7. I’m using Firefox 18.0.2 on Mac OS X 10.6

8. Yes, the button issue seems to happen on the contact pages and also on blog post pages with the comment form

webmandesign

Hi,

Working on a theme update already (should be out by tomorrow) that will fix all these glitches.

Hi Oliver

Firstly congratulations on a wonderful theme. I have been hunting for a theme for a particular client and this ticks all the boxes in terms of design and functionality.

soulnecta has asked many of the questions I had myself (thanks soulnecta) and just to confirm I am also experiencing the drop down menu flicker issue mentioned (No. 7). It doesn’t happen all the time but I can make it happen by doing the following. 1. Select the main menu item and move the mouse down as if to select something from the dropdown. 2. Move the mouse just to the right of the dropdown and then quickly back again. 3. The dropdown menu will appear again (if you’re quick enough) and will flicker.

While I have been able to replicate it by doing the above it will very occasionally happen even when you don’t mouse off the dropdown. I am on a MAC 10.6.8 and it only seems to happen in Firefox… I am using 18.0.2 ( Safari and Chrome seem OK).

Now for my question: It regards blog posts that are text only… my client may be posting blog posts where there is no image available. I have checked out your available documentation and watched the Vimeo ‘post formats’ video on this. I understand the need for some kind of Featured Image or Place Holder to populate the various ‘latest posts’ widgets and have seen the option to disable the image on the single post page… but wondered what happens on the main blog page? Does the featured image (or place holder also appear on this page)?

I’m looking forward to purchasing your theme and working with it.

Regards

webmandesign

Hello Kargan,

Thank you very much, I’m glad you like the theme.

Oh this is the case with flickering menu? Now I get it. It is actually a matter of speed of the JavaScript animation on it. You are basically faster than the animation and when the menu is not completely faded out and you roll the mouse over it again, it reappears. This is easy fix and I will introduce it in theme update (planning to release for tomorrow). I’ve tried and replicated the issue even on Chrome on Windows. But as I’ve said really a minor fix for this one.

As for the post thumbnail, this is really required for if you want to display posts list shortcode or posts widget somewhere on the website. If no featured image is set, the posts shortcode will display a placeholder image instead (or you can disable displaying images for the shortcode altogether – see the bottom of posts shortcode example page), the posts widget will display a post format icon. I’ve set up a post with no featured image to preview for you. Please have a look at the blog page and look for “Post with no featured image” post.

Another possible option here would be that you set the featured image for each post (for the posts shortcode and widget) and disable displaying the featured image on single post page (this can be done globally in theme options panel). Then with a single line of CSS, which I can help you with, you can hide the image on blog page too.

Please, direct any additional after purchase questions to http://support.webmandesign.eu

Thanks and regards,

Oliver

Hi Oliver

Really appreciate your swift and comprehensive reply and for updating the link so I can see what a post with no image will look like… exactly what I needed to see as I was hoping it would work like that… perfect!

Many thanks

Trademark problem?

webmandesign

I wouldn’t say. You could find such a thing on many other themes here ;) The name of the theme is ”!LesPaul – Retina Responsive WordPress Theme”, not “Les Paul” :) Just inspiration.

Man, this is just beautiful. You added a lot of nice touches, but kept it simple and clean.

Have you considered adding infinite scrolling to the Pinterest blog layout? That would be a sweet feature.

Overall, nice job!

webmandesign

Hi,

Thank you very much! I’m glad you like the theme :)

I’ve played with an idea of infinite scrolling, but put it aside for the first release. But I might very well reconsider it again for future theme update ;)

Oliver

Thanks, Oliver. Hope you do that, as it’s a very nice touch when implemented.

Wow man, Bravo! This theme has awesome functionality, how did I miss your other themes?

Can you tell me the major functionality differences between LesPaul and JazzMaster? I like both of them so was just curious. Do they both run off of the same framework? I like to buy from authors that keep the backend functionality familiar so when a new theme comes out I get faster and better at implementing.

Great job!

webmandesign

Hi,

Thank you very much!

LesPaul is leap forward agains JazzMaster. As all my themes are, basically ;) The admin user interface was rebuilt to make it even more intuitive and compact (this is just possible with WordPress 3.5, so that’s why the theme supports only this version and upcoming ones). Shortcodes were also reworked (some of them) and projects were much upgraded. The logic of post formats was rebuilt completely to make theme easier to create. Some popular plugins integration is supported… Really a lot was done – that’s why it took a while to release ;)

Framework is the same, but it is more advanced now.

You can see some screenshots and videos of user interface in theme user manual. The same would go for JazzMaster, so you can compare.

Oliver

BTW, I also get the “flicker issue” as stated by others above. In FF 19 and Chrome 24.

Working on a first theme update already and will send it for approval today. So tomorrow it could be out in the wild ;)
