Hello, Could you take a look at this for me please…

http://c4265167.myzen.co.uk/media/

...and ask me why the menu looks wierd? Also why it is all pushed right to the left of the sidebar, and not with a border to make it look tidier. Also is their a good widget out their where I could add an extra sidebar on the right hand side of the page for specific posts/pages?

Thanks

mixey

Try using the build in menu manager. It’s located under the Appearance->Menus

I have done, but their’s nothing to change the way it looks or to explain why its not got the border. If you look, mine looks different to your example page, and every other time I’ve used this theme too. I’ve tried uninstalling all widgets and reinstallling the theme but without Any luck?

mixey

You should create new menu and assign it to the left location. Then add menu items to that newly created menu and hit save button.

After that your menu will looks good.

Hey Mixey,

I’m just getting started with customizing this theme. I really like it so far. I’m having 2 issues so far.

1. The left navigation isn’t rendering in it’s proper style.

2. The footer is not showing up on the homepage.

This error message was showing up on the page earlier, but it’s not there now: Fatal error: Cannot redeclare wp_pagenavi() (previously declared in /hsphere/local/home/c-rob/artofthefan.com/blog/wp-content/plugins/wp-pagenavi/wp-pagenavi.php:29) in /hsphere/local/home/c-rob/artofthefan.com/blog/wp-content/themes/liquid_magazine/wp-pagenavi.php on

Thanks for your help.

Hi Thanks for the nice words!

1. Please go to the Appearance->Menus and create menu, then assign it to the left location and add menu items to it.

2. It looks like you have installed wp_pagenavi plugin, please try deactivating it (wp_pagenavi is already include with theme)

Thanks Mixey. That fixed the footer issue.

I created a menu under the appearance tab but I can’t get rid of the old menu. If you have any idea how I can do this, I’d appreciate it.

Thanks. CR

mixey

Make sure to assign new menu to the left location. And then add menu items to that menu and hit save. After that only one menu instance (new) will be visible.

First of all .. Awesome theme !

Got 1 little question:

Is it possible to ‘hide’ some catogories from the first page ? So that it shows the name in the top of the page but not shows the whole post on the home page.

mixey

Hi,

Thanks for complementing!

By default WordPress is pulling all posts to the posts listing page, so if you want to hide posts from certain category you will need to do some mods.

Check this page: http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/query_posts#Exclude_Categories_From_Your_Home_Page

<?php if ( is_home() ) {
    query_posts( 'cat=-1,-2,-3' );
}
?>
Where 1,2,3 are IDs of your categories that you want to exclude. Enter this code just before
<?php if (have_posts()) : ?>

Mixey,

First of all, I think this theme is great.

However, I am having trouble changing my site logo.

It says “Liquid Magazine” in pink. I tried going to “Liquid Magazine options” under the “Appearances” tab and changing the logotype, but when it changes the words are Times New Roman in white letters.

How can I change this logo and change the font, size, and color as well?

Thanks.
Jay

Please paste a link to your image instead of typing the text in with your keyboard.

Upload image to your server and insert there something like: http://www.domain.com/folder/path/images/your_logotype.jpg

Hi Mixey,

I have another question…

What do I need to change to have the post thumbnails on the home page to open the picture and/or the text of the post in a lightbox kinda “environment” when clicked on. Or even that whenever one clicks the image in the post on the homepage, that the bigger image opens in lightbox, instead of on a new page? I use it as my photoblog for my photography and it would be nice if the “Click-area” could be specified… Like when clicked on the title the “single-post” template opens just like it does now, but with a separate “click-area” for the pictures so that when clicked on, the image opens bigger in lightbox, being able to navigate through the rest of the pictures on the homepage by using the navigation within the lightbox. (the arrows)

If this would be possible it would be absolutely great.

Any tips in the right direction would be well appreciated.

Edit

Forgot about this:

It would also be nice if the excerpt was not directly a link , so that the text remains selectable and so that the links used in the excerpt text are still click-able. How can I do that?

Thanks in advance!

mixey

Hi,

To do that you’ll need to modify some template files. To make the “lighbox thing” you should open index.php and find where images are rendered and wrap them with tag with specific class or rel attribute (depends on the lighbox plugins).

Then, you’ll need to modify js.js file (line 44) to remove the clicking area from the whole excerpt
$(".post_float").click(function(){
        var hreff = $(this).find("h2 a").attr("href");
        //document.location(hreff);
        window.location = hreff;
    });

P.S. If you are not sure that you can achieve that on your own, please contact me throw my profile page, I’ll give you my partners contact details who’s in charge of mods.

Thanks for the reply Mixey.

I commented out the part where the “click” is rendered. This works now, thanks. Only thing what strangely doesn’t change after doing this, is that a post that only contains text will still have the “hand” mousing over the content instead of the text being selectable if you know what I mean.

About the lightbox on the homepage. When I add (in my case) rel=”lightbox” to the part of code where the images are rendered, it does show me the lightbox when I click on a picture on the homepage, however, it keeps on loading and ending up loading till forever without loading content into the lightbox. If you or your partner could help me out with this it would be much appreciated! Thanks again…

mixey

The “hand” cursor is a leftover in main.css. Please open it and find this line #225

#grid-content div.post_float { .... }

remove cursor: pointer; from it

Lighbox is freezing, because right now images in the category view are pointing to the full post page, but instead they should point to the image. Please contact me throw my profile page, I’ll provide you with my partners contacts if you don’t know how to fix that.

Hi, is PHP5 needed for this theme?

mixey

No.

If you are having problems with thumbnails on the homepage. Please check help file. On some server getimagesize() function is disabled and that is causing the error.

There’s another file index_without_getimagesize.php try using it instead of index.php

Does this theme work properly with WP 3 .2? As my site is loading REALLY slowly now :-(

mixey

Yes it should work just fine. If you noticed speed problems it may be related to your internet speed or hosting provider.

Hi!

How do you add a page selector for your posts?

Look at this example to understand what I mean: http://diffstuffblog.se/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Skärmavbild-2011-11-17-kl.-21.35.17.png

Hi,

This is called paginator and it will be placed automatically when post count will be bigger then your setting in Settings->Reading. Default value is 10, so when you’ll have 11 posts, you should see paginator.

Hi,

When I post something two things happen:

1. The image I insert into the post may or may not display. If it does and it is too big, I resize it within WP and update but the image does not change on the site home page.

2. The post on the home page does not have any formatting. If I have a list it is all ran together.

Thanks

mixey

Hi,

From help file:
Setting sizes for images (thumbnails), they will be generated automatically by Wordpress.

Please go to Settings->Media. Set thumbnail size 80 by 80px and tick "Crop thumbnail to exact dimensions (normally thumbnails are proportional)". Set Medium size to 255 by 500px, then click "Save Changes" button.

To re-generate thumbnails, install “Regenerate thumbnails” plugin, and go to the Tools->Regenerate thumbnails.

2. WordPress removes formatting from post teasers.

Default-user

Thanks for the reply!

I did as you said and here is what happens.

- If I am adding a new image to a new post, it seems to be fine. - If I remove the image from the post, and re-publish, it still shows on the post teaser. - If I add a new image to the post, the post teaser is not updated, even if I run the “Regenerate thumbnails”

Please provide an email if you want to login and see yourself. thanks

mixey

Template is taking first attached image to the post. Even after “deleting” image (I guess you are removing it from the editor window) it still is attached to the post.

Click Upload media button and see the “Gallery” tab. From there you can delete image (this time for real).

Default-user

I wish that was the solution but one of the images that needs to be deleted from the post teaser is not in the “Gallery”. I might be best if you can log in and see for yourself…? thanks
