Prepurchase Questions: 1. Is this theme compatible with Visual Composer? 2. Is it possible to create horizontal page transitions with one of the WP plugins, so the content blocks move left to right? Thanks

billyf

Hi drschraibman,

Thanks for your interest in my theme! Regarding your questions :
  1. I have not tested it against Visual Composer because I think there is no need to use it. This theme is quite easy to use and the shortcodes are placed as buttons in the editor.
  2. Again, I have not tested it with such plugin. I wonder which plugin is it? Maybe I can try it out.

If there’s still any questions, feel free to contact me again.

Thank you.

Hey there, great Theme thank you! I would like to know if there is a way to get rid of the date in a blog post? For example here; http://billyf.expertvm.com/wordpress/matrix/blog/illustration-blog/this-is-the-title-of-article-1/ (The one on the top right side of the entry next to the tile)

I am new to wordpress, so your help would be very appreciated! Thank you :)

I am sorry to bother again I just forgot something, all in all I would like the theme to appear less “bloggy” if you know what I mean :) Is there a way to turn off the author of a “blog post”? Or even use the tiles of the “home” page for sub pages? Thanks again for your help!

billyf

Hi Tariver,

No problem. You can remove the ‘author’ section by editing content-single.php via Tools > Edit and delete these 4 lines before </article> (but make sure you make a backup of this file as it will be replaced if you update the theme, unless you edit it in a child theme but I guess that’s too advanced for you since you’re new to WordPress).
<div id="authorinfo"><?php echo get_avatar( get_the_author_meta('ID'), 80 ); ?>
    <span class="author"><?php _e('Written by ', 'matrix'); ?><a href="<?php echo esc_url( get_author_posts_url( get_the_author_meta( 'ID' ) ) ); ?>"><?php echo $author; ?></a></span>
    <p><?php the_author_meta( 'description' ); ?></p>
    </div>

The comments can be switched off in Settings > Discussion (it’s a core functionality in WordPress) and the sidebar contains widgets which you can modify at Appearance > Widgets. I guess that makes it quite ‘less bloggy’ (but Pages / Portfolio Items would be more suitable if you don’t want the layout to look too much like a blog).

As for the tiles, they can’t be used anywhere else unless you modify it to make it a page template, or get a WordPress developer to do that for you. If you know HTML, you can apply the same codes for the tiles in the homepage (those in <div class="tile" />) to Pages / Posts through the Text Editor in WordPress when you create a new post, that’s if the tile content need not be changed often (e.g. as a hyperlink or gallery, for example).

Hope that clears your doubts.

Hey,

Do you provide HTML files along with the wordpress theme.

Harish

billyf

Hi Harish,

Thanks for purchasing my theme! Unfortunately, we can’t bundle items as per Envato’s policy. The HTML files can be purchased here if you need it (or you can create it from the WordPress template by saving / exporting the page as static HTML but you can’t really use this as it does not have valid license issued by Envato).

If you still have any problems / questions, don’t hesitate to ask me.

Thank you.

Hello,

I happen to have a question yet again. Is there a chance to add 4 “L” tiles in one row? II tried to adjust the sizes in the style sheet but unfortunately this didn`t really help. I figured it worked with “S” Tiles but they are a bit too small.

Your help yould be much apreciated! Thank you :)

billyf

Hi Tariver,

Unfortunately, there is no easy way for it because the size of each tile is in the increment of 160px (including the margin on both sides), which is why the tile images are 150px, 310px wide for small and large tiles respectively. The total width of the tile area is 960px.

The ‘easiest’ way (still not that easy, but relatively) is to adjust the code in scripts/javascript.js to accommodate for the size for this kind of tile (960 / 4 = 240px for large tile, i.e. 230px wide image). So, you will change this at line 78 of that file :
jQuery('#content-mos').masonry({
      itemSelector : '.tile',
      columnWidth : 160,
To this :
jQuery('#content-mos').masonry({
      itemSelector : '.tile',
      columnWidth : 120,

Now, the large tiles will arrange nicely after you’ve adjusted the width and height to 230px. If you wish to use the small tiles, you will need to resize them in CSS to 110px size instead of 150px, and 230px x 110px for medium tiles.

That should do the trick.

Thank you.

Newbie question, can i change the language of the contact us and about page?

billyf

Hi Arkien,

Thanks for purchasing my theme! You can change the languages through the .po / .mo files included in the theme in /languages folder. Then, you can follow steps 2 and 3 in this link to see how to use the .po / .mo files if you haven’t done this previously.

Alternatively, if you only want to change the language in these 2 files, you can modify template-contact.php and template-about.php (both at the root folder), preferably by using them in a child theme to prevent them from being overwritten by theme updates.

If there’s still any problems, feel free to contact me.

Thank you.

Thanks alot! bonus question, can it be done live? or do i need to reset it with the new files?

billyf

Hi Arkien,

You’re welcome! Yup, you can do it without having to reinstall your WordPress / the theme. If you are using the 2nd method (modifying the files and using child theme), you just need to install the child theme, modify the 2 template files and put them into the child theme directory.

Thank you.

Hi,

Your theme is really great, thanks! I have a question though : Is it possible to start an animation as a hoover effect over a tile. To be more precise, I would like to get an effect like on this website : http://www.sideeffectsmayvary.com/ So I was thinking if I create a looping animated gif as back image for every tile, is it possible to switch from front to back image as a hoover effect ? Thanks a lot Cheers

billyf

Hi pandorme,

Oh, if you are setting 1280px as the limit (I thought you wanted it to fill the screen), then you can use the following JavaScript code instead :
function matrix_fix_masonry() { var screenWidth = jQuery(window).width(); if (screenWidth < 1280) { jQuery('#mainpage-mos').width(screenWidth); } else { jQuery('#mainpage-mos').width(1280); }
For the CSS code, if you want to use percentage, you need to modify the JavaScript code from this :
jQuery('#content-mos').masonry({
      itemSelector : '.tile',
      columnWidth : 160,
      isAnimated: true,
      isFitWidth: true
    });
To this (make sure you have .small in the grid or use any other existing classes for sizing purpose:
jQuery('#content-mos').masonry({
      itemSelector : '.tile',
      columnWidth : '.small',
      isAnimated: true,
    });
However, when you use this technique combined with your CSS code (percentage width and auto height), the animation would not work as it needs to have its width and height set unless you remove .live (i.e. remove animation for tile).

So, setting fixed width / height is better and when you use the JavaScript code above, it will automatically detect the width to arrange the tiles, so make sure the sampler (.small in this case) is the smallest tile and other tiles have widths set as multiples of this. For example, if .small is 20% wide, medium / large should be 40% / 60% / 80% / 100% wide to be able to arrange nicely.

As for replacing flip with fade, you can try downloading the latest script and for data-mode, use ‘fade’ instead of ‘flip’ (you will either need to modify functions.php to add it into WordPress, or hard-code it in content-tile.php if you will only use fade). I have not tried this but it should work.

Thanks.

Hi,

thanks for your quick answer. Yes I want the images to fill the screen, like in my first reference : http://www.sideeffectsmayvary.com/ I was just explaining what I did to expand to 960 to 1280 as a first test but when I wanted to expand to the full screenwidth with the same technique, I got other problems I described. And when I tried your technique by deleting the few lines and put width: 100% for the #mainpage-mos, it didn’t work either.

But I think I will try to combine function matrix_fix_masonry() { var screenWidth = jQuery(window).width(); if (screenWidth < 1 * screenWidth) { jQuery('#mainpage-mos').width(screenWidth); } else { jQuery('#mainpage-mos').width(1 * screenWidth); } with this : jQuery('#content-mos').masonry({ itemSelector : '.tile', columnWidth : '.small', isAnimated: true, }); and with fixed width and height of the images. Or maybe I have to use max-width and max-height so that the images adjust properly to every screen size.

For the fade, I will try that, thanks.

billyf
You’re welcome! If you want to use full width, you can change the JavaScript to this instead :
var screenWidth = jQuery(window).width();
        jQuery('#mainpage-mos').width(screenWidth);

There is no need for the conditionals since you always want to have it fill the full width. You need to use width and height for the tiles but you can apply max-width and max-height to ‘limit’ the size if you want, but the latter is not a replacement for the former.

Thanks.

I’m slowly becoming a CSS god thanks to you! but i do have a question about the link. I want to change the url embeded in the logo when clicking it.

So if i wanted the logo to link to www.google.com, what would the CSS be?

billyf

Hi Arkien,

CSS controls only the style (visual presentation) of the elements in the website.

If you want to change that, open header.php in any text editor or via Appearance > Editor and find this line (at line 290) :
<a id="headerlink" href="<?php echo esc_url( home_url( '/' ) ); ?>" title="<?php echo esc_attr( get_bloginfo( 'name', 'display' ) ); ?>" rel="home"><img id="logo" src="<?php echo $smof_data['matrix_logo_image']; ?>" alt="logo" /><?php if ( $smof_data['matrix_sitename'] != 0 ){ ?><span id="sitename"><?php if ( $smof_data['matrix_custom_sitename'] != '' ){ echo $smof_data['matrix_custom_sitename']; } else { bloginfo( 'name' ); }?></span><?php } ?></a>
Change replace the value in href attribute to the link that you want, such as :
<a id="headerlink" href="http://www.google.com" title="<?php echo esc_attr( get_bloginfo( 'name', 'display' ) ); ?>" rel="home"><img id="logo" src="<?php echo $smof_data['matrix_logo_image']; ?>" alt="logo" /><?php if ( $smof_data['matrix_sitename'] != 0 ){ ?><span id="sitename"><?php if ( $smof_data['matrix_custom_sitename'] != '' ){ echo $smof_data['matrix_custom_sitename']; } else { bloginfo( 'name' ); }?></span><?php } ?></a>

However, you will need to make a backup of this file because it will be overwritten when you update the theme in the future. So, you will need to replace this file or make the change again if the header.php file is also updated.

Thank you.
