Bit of a head scratch to get the sidebar working on the homepage.

But like starshade states. You need to :

Add a category and assign this to a random post.

Then select this category under “Homepage Slider Categories” in the media consultant options panel.

starshade

Yes, it is like this right now, I will release an update to fix this issue soon.

Hi, this theme is great! However, the Titles won’t display “åäö”. Is there an easy way to fix this?

starshade

I have written in the documentation how to regenerate the javascript file that renders the font via cufon technology.

Is it posible to remove blog section, or turn off and use this as a normal webite?

starshade

Hello nsaf,

All you have to do is to avoid creating a blog page template in the wordpress admin panel. That way, you won’t have a blog.

I have already emailed you as I am new in this, I haven’t seen this Discussion board.

very nice theme.

Is it possible to have video through plugin in Homepage welcome content? if yes then please suggest me how can i use it. I tried to use FLV embed plugin to add flv video in that area. or else suggest me any other way to add video in that area.

Thanks

starshade

Hello arpitap,

I don’t think you can embed FLV via plugin in the welcome area. You need to manually copy / paste FLV embed code in the welcome area (make sure it links to the correct location of the video and set the desired width and height).

bummer man – but your answers just aren’t helping me get the HOME PAGE “SIDEBAR” area to show anything. I understand how to created a category / post (s) and add it to the homepage options to populate the “SLIDER” and each response you’ve said that I needed to create a category for “SLIDER”.... but I am talking specifically about the widget area for the home page ‘SIDEBAR”

Just to be sure I wasn’t getting it wrong – I made another category with a test post and added it to the home page slider options – but the sidebar widget still won’t display the any content.

Am I reading this right? or are we confusing each other with “SLIDER” and “SIDEBAR” semantics? Sorry – but one last time – any fix for the home page sidebar widget area?

AND I MUST SAY I LOVE EVERYTHING ELSE ABOUT THIS THEME !

Scott

Ok here’s the fix for this:

Open sidebar.php and replace this line:

 if (in_category($gw_options['homepage']['homepage_categ_final']) ) {

with this one:

 if (is_home()) {

This should fix the bad behavior for the homepage SIDEBAR (yes it was related with the SLIDER ). I will send to review the first update of this theme(with this fix) later this evening along with few more improvements, later this evening.

More updates / new features to come soon.

Regards,

Starshade

The theme is very good. It is simple and clean yet very organized.

:)

Thanks :)

Starshade.

Thank you for continuing to work with me on this, but unfortunately that fix sent the homepage sidebar widgets to the blog and the blog widgets are not displaying (not sure if they were before or not)

I could send you some credentials if you want to look under the hood??? perhaps it would help? If not – I will wait for the update.

Scott

also, the site is http://www.mountaininsurancedenver.com

Hello Scott,

Thanks for letting me know. I was aware of this when I started testing more accurately. Actually, the solution with is_home() works only when you don’t have a blog page in your site…

But no worries, I finally fixed it, now it works for good. It’s not a straightforward solution though, so I can’t explain here what must be done. I already made a few minor fixes to the theme, gonna make few more and send the update in about 1-2 hours for review.

I will announce when it will be accepted and also post the changes in the item description.

Kind regards,

Starshade

This template is fantastic!! If any of you would like to see my use of this template in action, visit www.paulgregorymedia.com/homepage.php.

I put a lot of bells ‘n whistles into this, including the user’s ability to change styleshets on the fly (go try it). Also, embeeded RSS News Feeds, Twitter feed integration, search functionality and so much more.

I integrated the WP template for the blog section only, – the rest of the site is the pure html version of the template.

Thanks to Starshade for terrific work! ~Paul

Hello Paul,

I like the work you have done there quite a lot. Ironically I didn’t have any idea of the potential of this theme when I released it back in 2009. I know you wanted the wordpress version much earlier but I couldn’t get it right back then.

Any searches performed will ignore the content on the homepage – this is because of the way the homepage is generated.

Important announcement: Media Consult has been updated

The update is finally up, check the item description too see what it contains(most importantly, the issue with the homepage sidebar has been fixed). To everyone that purchased this file, please re-download the package.

More updates to follow.

Love this theme! It is working perfectly so far except…

I want to add a recent posts aggregating plugin to the right box on the front page. The plugin says I can add <?php recent_posts(); ?> to html to have the posts aggregated, and I have tested this out in other websites. When I put this in the right box from either the admin page or directly edited into the index.php, It does not work.

I assume something is not playing nice with the plugin, but I wonder if you could give me some pointers on how to get it to work? Thanks a ton.

Website I’m working on currently is http://build.oakhillhomes.org

I’ve encountered another problem. I am trying to use the plugin Widget Logic to put different widgets on different pages. This plugin has worked with all of my other websites. But for some reason, it is not working for this site.

Do you think the JavaScript for the slider is clashing with plugins?

Any help you can give would be awesome.

Again, love the theme. http://build.oakhillhomes.org

Thanks!

this is a fantastic theme from all aspects! design, documentation, simplicty, etc. Nice job!

I’m having a hard time getting the MC Blog sidebar widget to work on the home page. I have created a category called ‘blog’. It has an ID of ‘5’. I have indicated the category ID as being ‘5’ on the home page set up. I have created 2 blog posts and given both of them the category of blog.

However, nothing is showing up in this widget on the home page.

Here is a link to the site: http://11-bridges.com/clients/conference/

@insidiousraven:

The right box from the admin doesn’t accept php code, only html. You need to include that tag manually in index.php. Look for this block of code(the one with $gw_options‘homepage’):

<div class="h-box-wrap">
   &lt;?php ...original php code here... ?&gt;
</div>

Add your recent_posts(); between php tags before or after my original code. It should look like this:

<div class="h-box-wrap">
    <?php recent_posts(); ?>
    <?php ...original php code here... ?>
</div>

Also, make sure you updated your theme to the latest version, v1.1. There could be conflicts between jQuery and other plugins that use different frameworks and in my latest update I have added jQuery No Conflict to avoid these issues.

@jwlander – did you add blog subcategories and made posts to belong to those subcategories ? The MC Blog widget lists all subcategories that belong to the blog parent category and have posts associated to them. Let me know.

that did it! Thanks for the quick response.

Starshade,

Thank you so much, I got Widget Logic and the short code to work in the boxes.

One more question… Do you have a shortcode for the MC News widget? I really like it, but want to use it outside of a widgetized area.

I was having a problem with the contact form and I thought I’d post the solution in case anyone else is having a problem. There were a couple of posts earlier in this thread with other folks having a problem with the contact form on Godaddy and I use them as well. The solution posted previously didn’t work for me (if you are getting an error with the $body line change proposed above, it’s because the type of quote marks is jacked so retype the line instead of cutting and pasting).

The problem, I uncovered is that on Godaddy the $_SERVER[‘PATH_INFO’] returns the index page instead of the contact page.

To fix this, you can edit the template_contact.php file and replace the above string with $_SERVER[‘REQUEST_URI’]. This worked for me.

I would imagine it might also be able to be fixed by altering the .htaccess file, but I’m not sure on that one.

Are the 2 sections on the homepage, below the Welcome, widgetized? Can I use any plugin there?

On the live demo, they are the Overview and the case study sections; I’d like to know if I can do something different with those spaces without having to get into the code.

Thanks,

Jimmy

Hello bestjimmy,

You asked a similar question on the previous page of this item and I responded there. To make sure you won’t miss my answer again, I will answer here again too:

- the 2 sections below the welcome area are NOT widgetized. They are boxes that can be filled with content via admin in a textarea. You can add as much content as you like because they are expandable. - I don’t think you can use plugins there, the textarea accepts only html/css code and plugins usually require php calls, so you would need to edit the index.php for this.

Kind regards,

Starshade

Starshade,

Thanks for your kind consideration in answering my query twice! Please excuse my lapse; I know your time is valuable.

I very much appreciate your answers (plural)

Starshade, nice job on this theme, I’m also a godaddy account holder and have the same issue with the contact form. Form doesnt submit to my default email address on wordpress.

I could use an alternative contact plugin but would like to keep the theme uniform with the contact page built in. Your thread link to the discussion is no longer active, do you have any alternatives?

starshade

Hello graphyte,

3 posts above yours the user rbarbieri offered a solution for godaddy users. Please try that, since I don’t own a godaddy account I can’t help with this issue. In one of the future updates I will change the php contact script completely, since it seems it’s not that good :(.

Hello Starshade,

Bought this template – very nice!

Just a couple of small issues:

1. Contact map – small and big

I was hoping I would be able to easily add a google map in place of the map image.

Ideally I’d be able to have the interactive google map in place of the small map image and when the image is clicked, a larger interactive google map pops up. But failing this, I’d like to at least LINK to the google map page from the small map image, but having tried this via the Contact Options, nothing happens and the lightbox just lags.

Any advice on how I could do this? I could try digging into the template_contact.php file itself but would prefer an easily editable solution on the WordPress admin itself.

2. Read More button/link on the home page slider

I’ve looked through the documentation and can’t find anything about how to add the “Read More” link onto the homepage slider images…I’ve tried adding a simple link to the text editor but it just displays a normal link and not the same style button/link as in the demo…any help with this too would be appreciated.

Cheers!

starshade

Hello remarkuk,

To answer your questions:

1. You can’t make this for now. In a future update I will include this feature – some stuff needs to be completely changed, for example the lightbox – in the current lightbox you can have only images – no scripts, no videos, no text. That’s the reason you can’t use a google map instead of the contact map big image.

2. It’s written in the documentation. It’s not something particular with this theme, it’s all about how to use wordpress in general. I wrote in documentation how to SEPARATE posts – using insert more tag(it has screenshot in documentation) – slider entries are posts, so you do this just like doing it to a random post.

Kind regards,

Starshade

Thanks, Starshade. The slider button works perfectly now and will look forward to the Google Maps compatibility. Meanwhile, I just added a direct link to Google Maps to one of the sidebar widgets so it’ll do for now!

Cheers again
