jennzforest

Hi, thanks, replied a few days ago but not heard back from you with any solutions? Any idea for starters on the twitter sidebar widget dropping the first letter of the tweets?

friendlythemes

We haven’t had an e-mail with screenshots, jennzforest. Any chance you can send again, please?

jennzforest

Hi,

That’s weird as I got confirmation of receipt?! Hasn’t gone to your spam or bin has it? Anyway have forwarded it again … not with screenshots but with a live link to the site and issues.

Thanks again.

How do you hide the front end theme options? I do not want this showing to my visitors.

Also anytime i replace the home above feature widget, with a text widget, the styles drop completely, and looks terrible.

Hi there, we have replied to your e-mail. Thanks very much for buying Mercury!

Hi,

Replied to your latest email – just to confirm so you know to expect it.

Thanks.

Hehe thanks, Jenn. Glad we got your issue sorted. Pesky plugins :)

Hi, in doing some preliminary searches for responsive layout themes for wordpress.org, I stumbled across Mercury. It looks super duper powerful. Coupla quick questions: Can social media icons (FB, Twitter) be placed along the top anywhere, and do you think that responsive layout is the way of the future? It seems to me that with all the different formats, anything else would be so last year/century?? Thanks, LisaBetty

Hi LisaBetty,

Thanks very much for the questions. Our next update (1.3) which will be out this week will add another widget area above the logo/menu to allow you to do with whatever you please – in your case you’d be able to put the social media icons up there.

As for responsive layouts – we believe that they are the future… under the right set of circumstances. Not all sites need to have a need to be responsive, but we certainly believe there’s a lot of value in them. For example, our next theme (out soon) isn’t responsive, but we’ve built it in such a way that if there are enough requests for it to be so, then we could add it if necessary.

It’s another layer of complexity for the developer which in some cases a budget can’t stretch to. Each project is individual, so it would make sense to weigh up the pros and cons of each facet of the design before committing.

Thanks for the question and your interest in Mercury :)

Thanks so much for your prompt reply! So is Mercury as easy to use as it looks, for someone that knows just enough to be “dangerous”?! : )

friendlythemes

Hi Lisa,

We’ve tried to design it to be as easy as possible for both those who are new to WordPress and those who think they are not new to WordPress (we’re all new to WordPress in some respect :) ).

We’re also here with regards to support as you can see from our comment thread and from e-mail replies. We’ll have our support forums open soon, too.

Thanks again for the question.

Hi there, I’m very interested in your theme, it’s really lovely work. So far I’ve tested the mobile responsiveness on both an Android tablet and phone and it looks great, although the sub-menus don’t appear on my phone, will have to test that a bit more… I have a few questions for you though, if you don’t mind.

Is it possible to set up the homepage without a slider? I know I can always just go into the code and take it out myself, but sometimes it’s just easier if it’s already an option to simply turn it off ;)

Is it ad ready? As in does it come with an ad-ready widget or is compatible with some of the more popular ad plugins?

Reading through some of the previous comments, it’s sound like there are some plugins that conflict with the theme – could you perhaps list which those are? And do you know if it’s compatible with some of the more popular standard plugins for SEO , sitemaps, etc.?

Can the breadcrumbs be turned off? Also, did I read correctly that it comes with a child theme?

Thanks so much for your time. Again, really beautiful work ;)

Audeo13, firstly thanks for the enquriy – all great questions. Secondly, please allow us to apologise, as you rightly surmise we’ve been incredibly busy with answering support queries, making version 1.3 of Mercury and our next theme, Venus. A 4 -day turnaround is poor and we apologise.

The breadcrumbs can be turned off and replaced with the title of the page, with a simple option switch.

There’s a conflict with one plugin which doesn’t have much traction, mainly because the plugin incorrectly loads javascript when it shouldn’t. The plugin author is aware of this. As for other plugins, we’ve seen the site with a vast array of other plugins being used and none of which have raised any issues. If one is discovered, we’ll do what we can to fix it but we’ve coded Mercury with WordPress best practices in mind and don’t foresee anything in particular. It certainly works with the top 4 SEO plugins (in fact we check for them and do some recommendations for you based on what you have installed).

As for ads…well, we don’t have anything baked-in, mainly as we see Mercury as a portfolio theme, but having just tested it with the most popular ones from this list : http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/tags/advertising they all work just great.

The home page doesn’t have an option to come without a slider at the moment, but it’s something we have planned for an upcoming version, possibly 1.3.

I hope that’s answered all of your questions and if you have any more, please don’t hesitate to ask in here or via support@friendlythem.es

Thanks again,

The idea of the theme with a nice editor and responsive design is a good approach. But there are a lot of thing that could be a little more precise. Main issue with this theme (and not only with this one) that it not optimized for mobile devices. The used fonts in the theme should by default not be placed in the header.php but only by option. That already coudl save 180K. An other tricky point are the images cooked in stylesheet; bg_glow already takes nearly 150K. Also the total space and files for the theme are really to much for the mobiles devices unless they are on a Wifi spot. It should be nice that in later updates optimizing takes really place. I did myself a lot of customization, more then expected. I also learned a lot…

friendlythemes

Hi Hansinke,

Thanks for your comments. At the moment, responsive web design is very much an artform that is in flux. Different browsers do different things when it comes to media queries (which we use extensively in this theme). For example Safari will only load images that it “needs” whereas other browsers will load all of them, regardless of what media query is being used). We’ve tried to be as precise as possible with this.

The idea of this theme is that your site will look like YOUR site on all resolutions, rather than having a distinct mobile site (which doesn’t look like your main desktop site). This inherently means more graphics are used than a standrad low-bandwidth mobile site.

The used fonts are the default ones which, for most people, are fine. Like you say, if you would like to remove them it’s a very simple task to do so – thanks for pointing that out to others.

It’s great to see that you’ve done lots of customisation, we’ve developed Mercury (and our framework) to be easy to customise, so that’s a really big comment for us, thanks!)

The beauty of Mercury is: for beginners it’s nice and easy to get a good looking business site up and running quickly which also allows your visitors on mobile and other setups to view a site which still looks like yours. And for advanced users such as yourself, it’s nice and easy to adapt to your own means. Catering for both audiences has an inherent extra overhead which the more advanced user can adapt to their own needs whereas the WordPress beginner can look at, learn, modify and adapt or just leave it as it is.

Thanks again.

Has anyone else had a problem unzipping this file? I have downloaded about 6 times from different computers, over different connections and every time get errors when I unzip it. I have used WinACE as suggested by themeforest, WinZip and Explorer – still no luck.

friendlythemes

Hi shelgies, thanks for the comment. We’ve replied to your e-mail. No one else seems to have problems with the file – it is quite large, but that’s because we include an awful lot of help documents including screencasts and lots of PSDs.

I’ve sent you the zip file with just the theme which should help you out.

If anyone else has problems, please do let us know : support@friendlythem.es (there’s not a great deal we can do as the file itself hosted by ThemeForest is fine, but we can certainly send you the files via e-mail and anything else we can do to help).

Cheers,

@FriendlyThemes

Hi again, Curious as to your answers to audeo13’s comments/inquiries. Haven’t seen a response yet, so just wanted to get in touch. Thanks. LisaBeth

friendlythemes

Hi LisaBetty, thanks for the questions. We’ve responded to audeo13 above. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask.

I’m quite curious as well, especially since I left that comment 4 days ago, others have been answered since then and I also sent an email.

I understand that you’re busy, everyone has that problem, but if a certain level of customer service is advertised, one would think that would apply to prospective customers as well.

friendlythemes

You’re absolutely right, we’ve now replied above. Genuinely sorry for the delay.

Sorry, but I having real trouble with the resizing of the images. I’m on a dedicated server and have WHM , but I’m not seeing an option for GD Library in PHP configuration. I hope you can help, I see real potential to get my site just the way I want with your theme, but I bought it to be responsive and I can’t use it if it’s not. I’m at http://zappzez.com (say it with me: “That’s Easy…zappzez!”

friendlythemes

Hi elevatetv, thanks for buyijg Mercury. I’m sorry to hear that you’re having problems with the images, but I’m sure you can appreciate that there’s not a great deal that we can do as it’s a hosting issue that you’ve encountered. GD library is a very common option so it’s highly unlikely that you don’t have it. I suggest that you fire off an e-mail to your hosting company and ask.

You may also want to check the permissions on the /inc/ folder /inc/cache/ folder and thumb.php script. Please see the help documentation with regards to this.

Thanks again.

If you have root access to the server install PHP -GD.

On Fedora / CentOS Servers run this command.

yum install php-gd

then Restart Apache.

service httpd restart

Is Mercury 1.3 released yet. Where can i download the latest version.

friendlythemes

Hi sripinnaka, we’ve had a few issues with 1.3 – some hosting environments aren’t liking one of our new features, so we’re testing it further. You’ll receive a notification in your dashboard when 1.3 is ready to download :)

How do we replace the Our Latest Portfolio on the Home Page. I tried to place content in the Home Page Row 3. It aligns to the left instead of side by side.

friendlythemes

Hi sripinnaka, Can you send us an e-mail with a link to where you’re having the problems and we’ll see if we can help you out further. Might need some css adjustments. support@friendlythem.es thanks :)

How do i increase font size. I have tried placing the following code, but its not effective.

h1 {font-family: ‘Ubuntu’, sans-serif; font-weight: 400, !important;} p {font-family: ‘Ubuntu’, sans-seris; font-size: 30 !important;}

friendlythemes

There’s a small error in your CSS which might be causing the problem. You don’t need a comma after “400”

Ok, seem to have an issue with the Call to Action row. The default setting button “Get in Touch” just flickers when pressed. I think I have asked this before but not answered yet..

friendlythemes

Hi andrew40, can you send us a link to where you’re having the problem and we’ll see what we can do. Also in what browser/browser version/operating system are you encountering the issue. Fire that e-mail to support@friendlythem.es

Cheers!

Getting fatal error when attempting to set up just like demo:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare friendly_create_demo_menu_items() (previously declared in /home/content/28/8528828/html/wp-content/themes/mercury/functions/theme-functions.php:851) in /home/content/28/8528828/html/wp-content/themes/mercury/inc/install_menus.php on line 159

Please email me the solution. sai[@]sai-en.com. thx

friendlythemes

Hi Zelionprime, thanks for buying Mercury. Please download version 1.2 as that error was resolved in version 1.1. Thanks!

I can’t seem to figure out how to get the slider to appear on the home page. Please help.

friendlythemes

Hi zelionprime, if you could be a little more specific that would be great. Have you had a chance to look at the comprehensive help files that came with Mercury, including the screencasts? They cover the slider in great detail.

If those don’t help, please feel free to get in touch on support@friendlythem.es and we’ll do our very best to help out.

Thanks again,

@FriendlyThemes
