Common WordPress Installation Issues
Missing style sheet error when installing the theme
A common issue that can occur with users new to installing WordPress themes is a “Broken theme and/or stylesheets missing” error message being displayed when trying to upload or activate the theme. This error message does not mean that the theme you have purchased is broken, it simply means it has been uploaded incorrectly. Luckily, there is a very easy fix.
Frequently Asked Questions
The install script doesn’t seem to have created the posts/pages/portfolio items like it does in the demo. What gives?
Major bummer! Really sorry about this. It seems that some hosting solutions don’t all of the PHP functions that we use to do the install the way we currently do it. Rest assured we’re working very hard to get this to work for everyone. However, in the interim, here’s an xml file of the demo posts/pages/portfolio items etc. You can use it by going to Tools > Import > WordPress and then select this file from your computer (that means you’ll need to download it first )http://dl.dropbox.com/u/455309/mercurytheme.wordpress.2011-09-04.xml
When we update the theme, you’ll know via the automatic notice on your dashboard. We’re sorry that this doesn’t work for all of our clients, but we’re on it!
If I have a ‘page’ set as my home page, I don’t see it. This makes me a sad panda
Fear not and don’t be sad! We have included a ‘front-page.php’ page template in Mercury which WordPress uses regardless of what you choose. If you want to use a ‘static’ page, then simply rename that file – something like front-page-bak.php should suffice.
WordPress will then default to the page.php template (or, whichever template you’ve selected for your ‘home’ page).
I don’t have any problems at the moment, do I need to update to 1.1.1?
Version 1.1.1 of Mercury is an update to fix a few problems that the minority of buyers were having on some hosts. If you don’t have a problem with the install script (for demo use) or your logo not resizing properly, then you can probably skip this release.
