Discussion on mobiTheme - WordPress Theme for Mobile Devices

This looks great! Quite a refreshing difference from the “standard” WPtouch plug-in (that everyone uses).

Looks pleasing to the eye! Very well done.

Beautifully looking theme.

I’m currently using the commercial version of WPtouch Pro – but it doesn’t support the new 3.0 menu structure. I see this does :-)

But can you tell me how to use this with an existing theme so that it can auto-detect the users’ device ?

thanks

pedrodonkey

I use the WordPress Mobile Pack plugin and it works seamlessly.

Just install the plugin and upload the dotMobi theme to your /themes directory as you would normally. Then select the theme to serve to mobile users via the “Mobile Switcher” settings found under the appearance tab.

Thanks guys, appreciate the support.

Hi,

Nice looking theme – of course it would be great if the contact form and ‘leave a reply’ had javascript behind them to save the user having to leave the page when missing an/entering an invalud email address

Any chance of tweaking??? As I’d love to purchase this theme as opposed to writing one from scratch.

pedrodonkey

Hi victorh,

I’ve implemented validation for the comment/reply form. Files are in the update queue but if you don’t want to wait then just send me a message from my den page after you purchase the theme and ill send you the relevant files to replace.

Cheers,

Pedro

Thanks – I’ll wait for the update to appear check it out and then purchase – you are a star

pedrodonkey

That’s great!

You can view a working preview of the validation on the live blog: here

Pedro

Instead of “Latest” “Categories” and “Archives” can I have particular pages or posts as the main buttons? How well do contact forms show up on this?

Default-user

Got it. How do I remove the bullet point from the sidebar widget?

pedrodonkey

Sorry for the delay, I’ll get back to you in a few hours with the CSS to rectify this.

pedrodonkey

Just add this CSS to remove that bullet point.

li.widget {list-style:none; color: #FFF;}

Updated files are in the queue with this fix.

pedrodonkey

@jeroulevert i’m not sure what you mean exactly. Could you explain in more detail what you’re looking for?

Can you please share a link to a site using this theme so I can preview on my mobile phone?

pedrodonkey

Hi can I insert google adsence, in this theme, I would like to know if is possible to insert the code from google in the front page as well as in posts and pages, thank you BTW great theme Regards

pedrodonkey

Hi,

Straight out of the box the theme doesn’t support adsense but it’s pretty easy to insert your code on the relevant pages where you would like your adsese ads to appear. Here is a fairly detailed tutorial on how you could do that.

There is also a widget area available on the home page so you could use one of the many WP plugins available to embed your adsense code via a widget.

I would be more than happy to help you modify it if you need the help.

Cheers,

Peter

pedrodonkey

PS: I’ve added support for ad sense to the next version update.

Hi Peter: Thank you so much for your prompt answer, if is just CSS , and to ad the code inside the script is OK, so I will get the theme today. Regards

Ron

What is wrong?

pedrodonkey

Hi,

That might be an issue caused by your hosting environment. The twitter file that’s included needs to be able to create two files in the root directory of where you have your site. Have a look in your root directory where you should find two files, tmp-info.txt and an XML file with a file name similar to tmp-1285916869.xml.

If you don’t see those files then try CHMOD the root directory with 755 so that the twitter.php file can create those for you.

pedrodonkey

PS: you may want to also check your hosts php setup and make sure they haven’t got any XML extensions turned off.

Very nice theme. I’m looking to purchase. Can you tell me if there is a switcher between the regular site and mobile site, in case users prefer to view the blog as a full site.

I have active live with bunch of posts. I’m using featured image feature. Will this be supported with your theme? How will the current featured images show? Will they show automatically or will I have to re-upload them or resize them. Same question for new upcoming posts.

Thank you,

pedrodonkey

Hi omakad,

If you use this theme with the WordPress Mobile Pack plugin (see FAQ ’s) then users will be able to switch to the normal site when served the mobile version by a link at the bottom of the page.

I’m not sure i understood what featured image plugin you’re using. Could you provide a URL ? New posts will be added normally when you publish a post it will appear in your normal blog and on the mobile version.

Cheers

I actually am interested in this and was wondering if it detects android users also…Also the site I want it for will be an arcade site full of flash games. will it be able to keep each flash game I have on the post?

I am asking this because I know iphones don’t do flash necessarily but android phones do.

pedrodonkey

Hi,

If you’re using this theme together as a mobile version of your main site then you could use one of the compatible plugins to re-direct mobile users to this theme. See FAQ ’s for info on that.

One way that you could go about achieving what you need would be to modify the flash embed code so that instead of it showing the “Flash Player Required” message to iPhone/iPad/iPod touch users it would show an image instead.

If you want to get technical with each post having its own image then i would assume some flash embed plugins for WP allow you to offer an alternative option like an image when embedding your flash file in a post so you may want to look into that as well.

Maybe a more convenient way to serve the flash games to your users would be to include a link in your post to another page which will have the flash game in it, rather than display it in your actual post. I only suggest that as each flash game will be different in terms of dimensions and re-sizing etc so i’m not sure how it would look on a mobile device. Just my 2 cents :)

Hope that helps

will the theme support qtranslate plugin?

pedrodonkey

Hi,

It does indeed support the qtranslate plugin. Tested and confirmed with the latest version 2.5.9.

Great Theme! Perfect for what I need!

but…

My posts aren’t producing thumbnails on the homepage. any ideas why this might be occurring? They display within the post fine. Is there any special steps that I have overlooked to create thumbnails for homepage?

pedrodonkey

Hi again Blox,

Are you sure that’s the correct URL ? can’t see the dotMobi theme at all even if i check it on my iPhone.

Yea, I have to turn this project around quickly so I opted to use a different theme fow now. I’ll try this one again soon. Thanks!

pedrodonkey

Sure thing, if you can get it set up in a temp location just send over the URL and i’ll have a look at it.

Does this mobile theme work with tumblog??

pedrodonkey

Hi,

I assume you mean the WooThemes Tumblog plugin? i haven’t had enough requests to actually set it up but it should work if you just add the necessary template tags which Tumblog provides.

Have a look at this video: http://www.woothemes.com/2010/10/wootumblog/ specifically at 2:35 onwards which shows you how to insert the template tags into your theme.

Hope that helps

If I have a current HTML site, and not a WP site, can I still load this and will the “switcher” plugin that you suggested still work?

pedrodonkey

Hi,

The switcher plugin that i suggested in the FAQ ’s is a wordpress only plugin.

In order to keep your HTML site as the “desktop browser version” and have mobile users re-directed to the dotMobi wordpress version then i would recommend the following detection script http://detectmobilebrowsers.mobi/. It’s quite robust and covers a vast array of mobile devices.
