Hi, bought your theme. It works great, but I need to change the tabs in the header latest, categories and more for a spanish translation.
Also, it appears that something more is required than the normal to change the languange with your theme. Where can I make the adjustments for a diferente .mo/.po?
The three tabs are image files so in order to change them you’ll need to open the PSD files included and make the changes. If you don’t have access to photoshop send me a message through my profile page (bottom right) with the translations for each tab and i’ll do them for you.
I’ve tested this theme with the wordpress language plugin qTranslate and it works well – tested with v2.5.9 on wordpress v3.0.1 – http://www.qianqin.de/qtranslate/download/
i lke this theme but i have a question: it is possible to remove the white border around it? i want only the colored background and not the white border around it.
That is possible, yes. You’ll have to adjust the CSS for the main container and remove some of the margins.
Thanks, i need to do some test on it in local with easyphp, how can i view the mobile theme on a standard browser?
Do you mean how to activate this theme on a local WordPress installation? What exactly do you need to know by testing? i may be able to help if you have any questions feel free to let me know.
I solved using “User Agent Switcher” on Firefox, bun now i have some problem:
- How can i change theme settings without activating it? I use the WP plugin “WPtap Mobile Detector” to show mobile theme on mobile phone.
- Viewing the mobile theme on my site i see that the theme width is fixed to 320px wide, how can i make it automatically fit the display resolution width, i mean like this: http://m.ohgizmo.com/
Thanks for the help
You have to activate the theme temporarily, then go to the theme settings and make your adjustments, save settings and then re-enable your normal theme.
In the theme settings there is an option for the width of the theme – it’s currently set to 320px but to get a fluid layout so it fits any device screen then enter 100% as the value.
Seems to be a problem in the file sidebar
No problem and thanks for pointing that out. Is there any visible error on the theme images that you can send me a screenshot of? I have a feeling that it’s something to do with the TimThumb.php script.
could you give me an email where i can sent it?
send to camel_hoof60 [at] hotmail [dot] com
I’ve received your e-mail but i can’t really point out what the error is unless i can duplicate it in my own environment, which i can’t. A guess would be that there might be a missing close for a conditional tag i.e. } or <?php endif; ?>. Have you modified this file from the original as i’ve had a look at mine and can’t spot anything that’s missing.
Yes, i have made some modify to the file, and and i had think the same things that you said, so i have tried to put the original theme, only unzipped, without touching anyfing, nut theres the same problem. I’ve also checked header, sidebar, index and footer.php but i haven’t find where should be the missing part. It is possible that theres a plugin that i have installed for the main theme that also modify something in the mobile theme, making that error?
OK, just as soon as i find some time i’ll go through all the code and see if i can find what’s causing the error.
Can you confirm if the theme is working OK visually or if it breaks? i guess it can’t be anything major if the theme is still functioning OK, visually, but i’ll look into it asap.
Also, let me know if you find out it ’s being caused by a plugin of some sort too.
Visually is ok from the top to the content of the page, after that there’s the error so i don’t see all the footer… if you need it i can send you a screen of i see.
Aha, so then that means it’s either a missing closing tag (from some of the editing you did earlier) or most probably one of the plugins you are using is causing the theme to break.
Can you disable all your plugins 1 at a time, testing the theme after you disable each one so that you can see which plugin is causing the error.
FYI i’ve just tried the edited theme which you sent by email and it’s working fine. That makes it quite obvious that it’s a plugin that you’re running.
i cant see photo gallary?
There is no other gallery besides the default WordPress one. You can use a plugin for this extended functionality.
Hi, i have 2 question:
- In index page, it is possible to limit excerpt lenght non by using more tag but by limit the number of words? In my blog i don’t have more tag in article;
- In article page (single.php) how can i show the article without the image? Actually i have this code: <?php the_content(); ?> but it show all the content with also the image.
See this for the excerpt length mod: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/limit-excerpt-length-by-characters and follow the instructions in the second post. You need to enter that function into your functions.php page and then use the php echo code within the index.php page in place of the current code.
For removing the images from within the content, replace the following line:
<?php the_content(); ?>
<?php echo preg_replace(’/<img[^>]+./’,’’,get_the_content()); ?>
See this post for more info: http://chrisschuld.com/2009/04/removing-images-in-a-wordpress-post-revisited/
Thanks pedro, i have another question, this theme works with featured image?
I’m asking you that because i notice that no image shown in article list, and i think that the problem could be that i don’t insert image in article but i attach them as featured image.
This theme doesn’t use a featured image. With the custom code for displaying the posts it takes the very first image that you have within your content area and re sizes it to use as the preview image.
You could use a feature image but the theme will require some tweaking. Try and do a bit of reading up on post thumbnails or featured images and you should be able to find an easy way to get it to display. Something like this could work but i haven’t tried it yet so don’t quote me on it:
<?php the_post_thumbnail(); ?>
I’m interested in the dotmobi theme. Can you tell me…
1.) Is there a limit to the number of menu and submenu items it can have before it starts to slow down or lose functionality? If so, do you know what that limit is?
2.) If there is a limit, can the menu items call new menus (to decrease the number of submenu items on each menu?)
2.) Is it possible to have > and \/ arrows, such as at http://m.nycgo.com/touch/home#home
3.) The menu items are only going to be calling videos (such as youtube videos) rather than blog pages. Is there any problem with this?
I’ll try to answer your questions as best as possible below:
1.) There shouldn’t be a limit to the number of menu items. However, rather than worrying about speed degradation i would think that the usability of the user might be affected by having a very large list to scroll through. Ofcourse if you’re talking about having 10-15 items then i suppose that’s OK but if you’ll have 30+ items then that might be a bit much in terms of affecting usability.
2.) Yes. But this will require some editing and possible creation of some page templates. i.e. you create a template for category A and within this template you insert a new custom menu named Cat_A_Menu. Then you create your page using this template and proceed to create a new menu in the WP backend which will populate this menu only. I think perhaps this is your best option. That way you can have the menu as it is currently as a “main menu” and then direct to other pages with their own custom menu on the page, exactly how the nycgo.com website has their menu.
3.) Anything is possible But again this will require some editing to the menu so that sub menu items are collapsed and show a \/ arrow, and when expanded they will show an ^ arrow. I think that if you set it up as i explained in the answer above then you may not require a collapse/expand menu at all.
4.) There is no problem with each menu item calling a YT link. You can use the custom URL option in the WP menu options to insert the external link to the YT video. Or you could even go a step further and embed the YT video within a post/page. That way you’ll keep your users on your site and not brush them off to YT all the time .
Hope that helps,
The timthumbphp used by this theme created a big problem in one of the servers where my site was running. I had downloaded this template almost an year back. Timthumbs had some holes and it was exploited. We got hackers installing too many backdoors and random IRC popping up in the server.
This is a great plugin. Please make sure you pull the latest timthumbs.php from their site. If you are already doing it, can’t be thankful enough
Wanted to blow the whistle so that someone who downloaded this template before can get some help.
@Author: If there’s a way to alert all the old users, please please do it.
Thanks for pointing this out. It’s been well known that timthumb had a vulnerability a while back and i had e-mailed any users which i had access to to inform them of this issue.
I’ve just downloaded the latest timthumb release and have re-uploaded the files which are now in the queue.
How can i show less page?
I would suggest adjusting the CSS padding and font-size as well as the word Successivo as this word along takes up a large amount of space. For such a large number of pages i would suggest using next and prev links and perhaps a jump to page drop down.
It seem like the dotmobi does not go well with the Heatmap wordpress theme.
Just sent an email to you explaining my problem.
Sorry to hear you’re having trouble with this. Could you be more specific and possibly send any screenshots as to what’s not working. Also send through your WP version and any plugins you may be using. You can send this all to my hotmail add which can be found in the documentation.
Am I glad to hear from you.
I did sent an email to: camel_hoof60 [at] hotmail [dot] com
Is that the correct email and did you receive it?
The dotMobi theme need some backend coding for customization, right? Or am I missing something.
I know nuts about code.
That’s the correct e-mail address but i haven’t received anything yet. Could you try sending again. If you need to customize it then you most probably will require some back end coding however the theme works “out of the box” and shouldn’t require any custom coding to get it to work.
Drop me an e-mail with some screen shots and what you need to have done, as well as the wordpress version and any plugins that you may be using and i’ll try to see what’s going on.
Please assist ASAP .
Cool theme but having some issues.
My Desktop version theme has pages that I use shortcodes in.
Since this theme will just display the shortcode and not the actual effect, I figured I would create theme friendly pages just for the mobile version which would not have shortcodes. So I set up a mobile only menu with those new pages. After re-activating my desktop theme, and visiting the site on my mobile device, the custom menu doesnt work..it lists ALL the pages (ie: Home, Menu, MENU , Contact, CONTACT ; The all caps being the ones I made mobile theme friendly)
How can I fix this? Something I need fixed today (tuesday)
I am not using it for a blog format, so i do not want the date the page was created at the top, or “comments closed” at the bottom. How can I remove this?
Your prompt response is appreciated!
Have u created the custom menu correctly as per the instructions in the documentation? If you don’t set up the wp menu then by default it will list all pages that your site has. Please confirm that you have done this as per the instructions.
As for removing the date and comments you will have to open up the file single.php and page.php and locate the code for each of these two items. Then simply comment it out and they won’t appear. Make sure that you keep a backup of any files you will edit so that you can always roll back in case you break the theme with any changes you make.
The easiest way to edit these files would be to use the Editor tab from within your wordpress backend. Locate the theme from the drop down (top right) and then find the two files i mentioned earlier.
Let me know how you get along.
Peter, Thanks for all the info. I was able to figure it out earlier today.
I had set up the menu properly…I just assumed that it was an issue with the “primary menu” since I wanted 2 seperate primary menus per theme (with only one being technically activated) So I opened up the header file and deleted the search and menu drop down buttons and just added in text links into the mobile pages I made. As for showing the dates I just opened the page template file in the editor and removed the according code.
So learned a few things and got it just how I wanted it. thanks!
Excellent! and i apologize for the delay in getting back to you but i’ve been away for the last few days. Glad you got it sorted, and learned something new during the process
RE your first question. Could you please provide more info i.e. your WP version and your main theme name/link so i can look into this. It should be fairly simple though. You need to enable the mobile theme, adjust your settings and create your WP 3 .0 menu. Then switch back to your normal theme and the mobile switcher plugin will do the rest.
2. In order to get rid of the No Comments words on the home page you will need to open this php file, locate the code and replace it for something along the lines of this:
if ( comments_open() ) :
comments_popup_link( 'No comments yet', '1 comment', '% comments', 'comments-link', 'Comments are off for this post');
I’ve sent you an e-mail requesting you to replace some files as the site is down and i don’t have access to yout FTP to upload them. Please see the other e-mail address within the e-mail i sent and reply to both so that i can get back on it as soon as you make the changes.
hey pedro, i see that a lot of mobile websites on the footer have links to switch mobile theme to desktop version. How can we add that link?
I am trying to find a mobile theme will be used to display pictures from my blog. Each blog posting only has one image in the posting, with a title, and few words to describe the picture. When coming to the mobile page I want the user to see just the picture from my blog posting with the title and the few words; then scroll down to the next posting. My question is, can the image on the blog page for your theme be resized to make the image bigger? It seems the width will auto adjust, but the height would be an issue. I would need to have the image larger. I read through most of the comments, sorry if this has already been asked.
I am looking to make your theme similar to the mobile version of this site www.thechive.com. You will need to view using a mobile device or set your browser to mobile to view the page. Thanks –r.
The image resizing is handled by TimThumb and there are various settings available for the way the images are resized. Currently i have the crop feature enabled and that’s why you’re seeing the images as they are. The site you posted seems to just be resizing them so they fit exactly within the space without any zooming or cropping.
Have a look at the following examples (http://www.binarymoon.co.uk/demo/timthumb-zoom-crop/) and i would recommend reading through the rest of the TimThumb info before making a purchase just so you’re 100% sure that your photos will resize correctly.
