Common WordPress Installation Issues

Missing style sheet error when installing the theme

A common issue that can occur with users new to installing WordPress themes is a “Broken theme and/or stylesheets missing” error message being displayed when trying to upload or activate the theme. This error message does not mean that the theme you have purchased is broken, it simply means it has been uploaded incorrectly. Luckily, there is a very easy fix.

Frequently Asked Questions

I want to upgrade my previous install with your March 28, 2010 upgraded files – can I do this easily without altering any of my changes?

Yes! All you need to do is re-download the zip file – next unzip the file locally and look for the css folder within the mb3_dark folder inside the wordpress files folder – upload that entire new css folder to replace the one on your server inside wp-content/themes/mb3_dark folder – just replace everything there.

Next you need to replace the index.php file in the mb3_dark theme folder on your server with the new one in the local theme folder.

Finally remove the category.php file on your server inside the mb3_dark folder inside the themes directory of wp-content – just remove it as it’s not needed.

That’s it.

Of course if you made alterations to the css files then you may not want to simply swap everything out – no need to – the only changes are the removal of the call in the specific IE css files on line 170 to the logo image – they have now been removed – you can safely remove those lines from your existing css files and you will be good to go!

I want to upgrade my existing install with your March 31, 2010 upgraded files – can I do this easily without altering any of my changes?

Sure can – this fix is on one single file – the template_homepage.php – the fix addresses an issue where the option to select a link from the drop down under a slider image in the admin panel did not result in a working link to a child portfolio category – this is now fixed.

To upgrade – download the files again and look for the template_homepage.php file in the theme directory – simply upload this to your wp-content/themes/mb3_dark/ folder and replace the existing one!

Super duper easy upgrade for ya!

I installed everything including the cleaner gallery plugin but get an error on both the galleries and the contact form – form may send but doesn’t display the thank you message – what is the issue?

Your hosting company is running php4 – they should be running php 5 – it’s been the standard for a long time and you should be running it for security reasons alone – this is the reason for the above errors – PHP5 is required.

Simply contact your host and they can either make the switch for you or look in your CPanel for server configuration – there should be an option to switch over to php5 instantly.
