well the reason i choose html is because i wanted to make a custom background and maybe change the black to another color. Am i able to still do that with wordpress? if so, then i will get the wordpress

jonathan01

Hi yes it’s very easy to do that I created the wordpress with this in mind you can add your own themes based on CSS and / or images such as background images etc it’s so very easy – hope that helps

Not sure what I did, but the links are all broke. Not sure if it was something when I imported the XML file? Any ideas?

jonathan01

Hi – yes it looks like you have not set your htaccess file to reflect that you are running this in a subdirectory – edit your htaccess to reflect the proper path to your index.php file (directions are included in the PDF instructions) – should be an easy fix :)

Dear Jonathan01,

Thank you for creating a stellar theme. Everything on our new website for our business looks perfect, except for this little “1 second flaw.” Immediately when you go to our site & when you navigate throughout our site then click on the home button, it just seems to flicker other photos that we’ve already uploaded into our site for that 1 split second. Our site is called www.affordableretouch.com.

We hope you can help us fix this small issue. Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Affordable Retouch

jonathan01

Hi and thanks for the purchase – I’m thrilled you are enjoying the theme – the issue could be many things – but generally that the images you are loading could be large in file size – maximizing the optimization of your images when producing them to lower the Kb will help greatly – if you are using PNG files – try exporting as Jpg to reduce the file size.

The other thing you can try is adding a overflow:hidden; to the css container via the css file you are using for the slider (it looks like you purchased this theme quite some time ago as it’s the original version – you need to probably do this) – this will stop anything displaying outside of the wrapper.

If you are not sure how to edit your css then I strongly suggest you re-download the package again which has the added css style – then JUST replace the css files in your theme directory via ftp – then you do not lose anything you have already built.

Hopefully that will help you!

Hi Johnathan01,

Thank you for getting back to us so soon. All of our photos are under 600 Kb per photo and they’re all Jpg as well, so we know that’s not the issue.

My partner tried to do what you said about “adding a overflow:hidden; to the css container via the css file you are using for the slider.” But he said it didn’t work and he wanted me to ask you where exactly do we put that new code?

Last case scenario, we will do what you suggested by re-downloading the updated package again :)

Thank you,

Affordable Retouch

jonathan01

Add to the slider wrapper – or like I mentioned just download your purchased package again from your downloads area and then it’s done for you :)

BTW – 600Kb is not nearly as optimized as they should be at all – 600Kb is really a none acceptable size for any front page image of a website – especially when you have several of them – you should easily be able to half that size without losing much detail at all.

Just a suggestion

I have an older version of the theme 1.0, what is the best way to install the new one and not lose what I have already done…?

Thanks, the theme is amazing! T.J.

jonathan01

Hi and thanks for the nice comment!

Unfortunately there were far too many alterations to be able to upload just a few files – best to upload to your server into the themes directory but change it’s name of the folder before uploading – then you can always switch back to the old version – that may work best but obviously if you are not well experienced with Wordpress etc it may be a little tricky – it’s all dependant on your comfort level really – but I would do it the way I explained above.

Hope that helps!

First off let me start by thanking you for making such a great wordpress theme, this was my first attempt at a wordpress template and I’m more than happy with how it turned out…

Ok, so here is my question. I have a video on Vimeo that I would like to embed into a blog post. I tried using the “embed” code that Vimeo offers but it doesn’t seem to work. Any suggestions?

Thanks again, Bryan Crockett

jonathan01

Hi Bryan – thanks for the nice comment and I am so happy you are having fun with the theme.

I actually have my own HD Vimeo videos on a page in the light version – you can see the page here:

http://www.theaterwebsiteservices.com/MB3LIGHT/video-instructions/

All I did was paste the embed code in to the page – you may need to make sure that you are in HTML view rather than WYSIWYG view when adding to your page to make sure wordpress doesn’t add any extra bits in there – but yeah – it’s totally possible and easy – just paste the embed code via the editor when creating your page – just not in WYSIWYG mode I think.

HINT : You can right click on the page and view source to see my embed code on the link I provided above.

Thats exactly what it was. I was on the “Visual” tab and not the “HTML” tab. I didn’t even think about it, haha. Sorry about that blonde moment. jk.

jonathan01

Hey, there are no stupid questions Bryan – just stupid answers :)

Thankfully I didn’t offer one of those this time hahaha

Good luck with the new site!

Hello :-)

I love the theme you have put together, so went ahead and purchased. I have some experience in WP (have only done 2 or 3) and am not a web designer.

I am having serious difficulties, and no matter what I try, no matter how many database renewals to start fresh, I cannot get it to work. It’s not your theme….it’s me!!

I am using Bluehost, like I normally do, and I think the problem is occurring possibly during the .htaccess phase of the configuration process. My site’s database is not in any subdirectory or subdomain – it’s in what I believe is the root folder. But problems start I think when the .htaccess points to /index.php.

Because, in Bluehost tradition, the ‘root’ area is in the public_html area, I am not sure that /index.php is the right path??? I’ve been told by bluehost that my web root would be home/**/public_html – is that anything to do with the problem do you think?

Pleeaassee help me, I’m completely stuck and I’m under serious pressure to complete this project. :-P

Many thanks for your time….and patience!

Divebel.

jonathan01

Hi – no the htaccess should just reside in the same folder as your main wordpress install and should just read as ../index.php – sounds like bluehost run the same cpanel software as most hosts which makes your default root as public_html – same as the one I have this them installed on.

What exactly are the issues though? Best to contact me via my profile page contact form for support also – it’s better than this system.

I have a htaccess problems with installing this theme.

Wordpress is installed at:

http://192.168.100.4/wordpress/

Copied and renamed htacces into .htaccess

RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule . /mb3_dark/index.php [L]

Theme installed at: http://192.168.100.4/wordpress/wp-content/themes/mb3_dark

I tried everything but them theme doesn’t show up, using an other theme I have no problem.

jonathan01

Hi the htaccess should be inside the main WordPress folder – not the theme folder – and should have the path to your installation as per the directions – you have yours in a wordpress directory – therefore ..wordpress/mb3_dark/index.php

Hope that helps.

Hello,

I love the theme thanks so much providing it.

Question: On my contact page in the form section. When filled out and the submit button pushed, nothing happens.

I am running PHP5 I check that. From the instructions it says that the form will close identifying information sent. None of that happening.

Is there something I can look at or point me in the right direction?

Thanks for your time.

jonathan01

Hi – please contact your host with the details – the form is a simple php mailer that uses mail () function – let your hosting company see the file and ask to make sure that mail () function is configured properly on the server – if your server is a windows based server it may well be your issue if PHP is not configured to accept mail () function – if you have godaddy hosting that may well be your issue – others have had to contact them to get things fixed up – the form works flawlessly on a regular PHP install on Unix – just depends on the host and their configurations – some insist you have to use their mailing scripts.

Jonathan,

I just went a head and deleted the themes/mb3_dark folder the reloaded it back on and re set the permissions in the cache folder to 777. That was the ticket it was all working after that, and images and everything was all saved. The form in contact page was good.

Question: On the contact page if I want to set a new email for the form to submit to, were do I change that?

jonathan01

Hi – good news!

The form details are in the PDF documentation

“The forms data is then sent to the admin email address set in WordPress.” – ie the admin email you set in WordPress.

Thanks!

Jonathan,

That is what I read too in the PDF Documentation, but was not working. But I reloaded some files back up. Now it is working. I think I had a lot of corruption on files during the install. Once I re upload some important files everything started correcting itself out.

New question:

The Cleaner Wordpress Gallery Plugin is a new version, and no longer lets you add the

‘input a custom rel attribute’ and paste: prettyPhoto[gallery]

prettyPhoto is a jQuery lightbox clone do I just select “jQuery lightbox” that in the preset of scripts listed or leave blank.

Follow up previous question:

I was using Cleaner-Gallery version 8. I deactivated it, deleted it. Downloaded version .7, uploaded, activated. It allows me to enter your script via the PDF instructions.

Let me know if version .7 is ok with this theme, or need to downgrade more to earlier version.

jonathan01

Hi – yes there is a large notice on the items description page about the cleaner gallery :)

Hi Jonathan…

I’m installing your theme on a new website… just a quick question for you. In the Installation Instructions (page 8), it says:

In the ‘Alternate Script’ section look for ‘input a custom rel attribute’ and paste: prettyPhoto[gallery] and finally click ‘Save Changes’

(Directions for Cleaner Gallery settings)

I’m looking on the settings page now, and there’s NOTHING that says “Alternate Script.”

Can you tell me where this is? Maybe it’s been updated since you wrote the directions?

Thanks, Cynthia

jonathan01

Please see the notice on the front of the item description page that mentions the cleaner plugin – also in the instructions I state in the update that you should simply use the supplied version and do not upgrade. Please use the plugin supplied in your download and then follow the directions as you mention – thanks

Also can I let you know that installing the theme on more than one website is not permitted – you will need to purchase another single license – one purchase at $30+ doesn’t give permission to constantly use wherever you would like – please re-purchase – thank you.

Hey Jonathan,

Been working on a new site using your post and noticed in your Vimeo tutorial on the galleries that the parent page (Portfolio) has a lower section that shows a thumbnail from each of the child pages under Portfolio, but I don’t see that same setup on your live demo or in my files and my setup.

Know where the code is located for that? Or how you implemented it so I can get my portfolio page to have the child pages populate in the lower section with an image thumbnail for each?

Thanks!

Rick

jonathan01

I think you are meaning when I click to show the lightbox image you see a page – that is just an image of Modern Business 4 Template I have in the portfolio?

Default-user

Hey Jonathan,

I’m referring to the video here: http://www.vimeo.com/9899993 @2:23

You have “Portfolio Sections” on your parent portfolio page. I was trying to get the same thing for the main Portfolio page so you can easily jump to other photos pages.

Thanks

jonathan01

Oh – ok that’s just a parent portfolio page – the images then link to child portfolio pages – just setup one main portfolio page and all the rest are children of that. That’s all – it’s basically done the exact same way you described it – ie there is a parent – others are children – the images on the parent link to the child page – you can create this as a regular page or a full width or as a portfolio page as I mentioned – just play around setting things up how you want – it’s quite flexible as that’s how I designed it for buyers.

Hope that helps!

Default-user

Thanks for the prompt reply, Jonathan!

I guess I’m just lost as to how the parent portfolio page is sourcing one image from each child page’s gallery. The gallery shortcode makes it seem like that won’t be pulled in until that specific page is being loaded… Maybe I’m overlooking something, but I can’t see any code for sourcing one image from each child page to display on the parent page.

Danke

jonathan01

Hey Rick – well we have 2 things going on here to be honest – the videos were made for the first version which ran a lot different to the new version – therefore things look different I guess – basically it does not “source” an image from another gallery, it cannot do that – but what I am trying to explain – not too well apparently :) is you can make a portfolio page – then create a gallery of images, they link to another child portfolio page – that’s about it really. In essence the main portfolio thumbs just link to your specific child portfolio page via an image – think of it like a regular post with a text link linking to a specific page – you will do the same in this instance but rather than a text link it would be an image link.

Not sure if that helps you?

Default-user

Thanks, I do understand that part re: creating gallery on the parent page, I was referring to the title of the children pages underneath the gallery, tis all, but think I know how to source the child page titles and iterate them in an inline list. Thanks!

jonathan01

Yes the extra menu bar is what I first mentioned – that was part of v1 and no one liked that way so it got removed and changed with the addition of drop downs :)

Hello :-)

Having some layout issues, which are totally my fault but I need to sort them out.

In safari leftcolumn and rightcolumns look great, in firefox too but in google chrome the rightcolumn is very slightly lower than the left – so then it looks really awful.

Can you tell me a trick for this, or let me know if I am doing something stupid?

Many thanks,

Divebel :-)

jonathan01

Unfortunately you cannot target google chrome like you can IE browsers so it’s a matter of give and take when it comes to small inconsistencies – most designers work on getting the most popular browser for the site based on stats to be perfect – that would be my best advise Divebel.

I really love your theme and am strongly considering purchasing it.

I had a quick workpress question before i do…

I run mulit-site wordpress superadmin for my websites…

I have had problems in the past with themes pulling images, content, etc… from default folders. Since the theme would be uploaded into a mulit-site… would i have any problems in regard to images being pulled from certain folders?

thank you in advance and I hope your theme will work for me. I love it!

jonathan01

I can’t honestly say – maybe another buyer has done this kind of setup but I am not sure – I’m really not certain sorry.

The form uses mail () function and requires php5 – you will need to contact your host to make sure they have things setup correctly – show them the mailer.php script as they may require modification to run on your server or they may insist on you using a script they supply for their setup – but generally speaking the issue will be due to mail() function not setup correctly or at all.

Hope that helps!

Hi Jonathon and other users

This is indeed a great website template.

However, i am still struggling with one issue – please HELP !!!!!!!!!!

Regarding the issues concerning my contacts page submission. I am not getting any joy from my hosting co.-streamline.net (they are running php5, i am on a Linux,Unix server and have changed the cache chmod-directory parameters to 777)

is there anyone out there that is using Streamline.net that can help me please as i have even sent the mailer.php file to them to look at and they have not been helpfull on this matter. There is some coding issue.

Regards Vijay

jonathan01

Hi – please refrain from stating that there is a coding issue with my mailer form – I can assure you that if there was then it would of been fixed and would of heard from many many buyers – but there isn’t.

Therefore as I already stated – the form uses mail ()function – if your hosting company can’t help assist you in a simple php matter then maybe it’s not the hosting company to be with.

Did you try just using another form script – most hosting companies provide one of their own as examples etc – you could also try using contact form 7 plugin.
